The Original Trilogy / Re: Tantive IV crew
« on: May 12, 2012, 11:01 PM »
Speaking of the crew, what do you guys think of the droids seen leaving the ship with the crew?  Rebel comrades of R2-D2, or Imperial droids brought on board to search the ship's computers?

Traditionally they have been called Imperial droids, but I always thought it was noteworthy that it looked liked they were being escorted under guard like the crew.  Stormies left first, then the droids, then the crew, then more stormies.  It also seems likely that the Tantive IV would have had more than just one R2 unit, like how the Naboo Cruiser had 6 droids.  We also didn't really see what happened with the other 3P0 unit from the start of the attack.

Thanks for the news!

For the moment, I'll leave aside the insanity of short-packing parts for a product that is only available at a single location in the entire world.  Like that's really going to keep all us consumers coming back day-after-day to get what we're looking for.

The unequal number of legs has got to be some sort of early-run mishap.  I can see why they're doing these in jumble-bags, but they are seriously running the risk of the giant pile-o-R2-D2 parts with no room left for those new rare parts.

Well, hopefully they'll be popular enough for an expansion, both in the store, and to California.  I just hope that they see a positive with the display, rather than a headache.  I can't imagine they will want to have to permanently station a droid attendant on the floor.

The naming thing sounds very tedious.  Nice of them to just give out sheets so you can do it later rather than clogging the line.

Oooooo...thanks for posting!

The display is smaller, and the selection weaker than I would have guessed.  There's a real lack of bodies on display, and some are missing altogether.  I think our boy Pete is going to wipe them out.  Hopefully he can get the manager or whomever to go in the back and bring out some fresh boxes to fill out his purchases!

The Original Trilogy / Re: Look Sir Droids...

I kinda thought it might have been breezy and blew the tracks away in the soft sand.

This pic from the blog confuses me:

Why is there two blue bodies?  One looks just like R3-M3 from the original BAD, and the second, lighter blue looks new.

Okay, that really sucks that some of the KEY parts they are advertising won't be there, and may not be there for weeks or even months!  That's pretty shocking that they would advertise this stuff without making a distinction between what is 'coming soon' and what will be there for the Celebration.  I mean, that really, really sucks, and they had BETTER agree to send you all the parts you are missing out on when they are eventually available.  You're probably not going to be the only one who gets there and wonders where all the other parts are.

22
Okay, if anyone is going to be heading down for these, I'm in for probably at least half of them + a reasonable markup & shipping.  I'm in the southwest, and while I hit Disneyland in California probably once a year, Florida just isn't happening.  They've really gotta consider bagging up a selection for bulk phone orders!

Also, the picture shown is not really adding up with the 71 parts/25 domes numbers that have been going around.  There's 23 domes there, but only about 50 total parts.  Kind of an odd breakdown.

23
Okay, that blue body in the back is waaay to similar to the R3-M3 BAD, and the red body on the left basically is R2-R9 from the Queen's ship, right?

Other than that, very nice!

I was just re-watching the trailer, and I couldn't spot any astromech droids.  Some of the seatbacks in the Mandalorian ship cockpit look like some kind of a dome, but that's the closest thing I saw to an R2 unit.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about.  From the front-side angle, it looked at first like a round droid dome right alongside the cockpit, but from the straight side or back angle it just seems like part of the ship itself.

Too bad, since it would have made for an interesting feature in many ways.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Lando in ROTJ

Oh, good point about Fett being there as well!  I guess Lando would definitely be hiding from him, at least.

It really is amazing how poorly they decide on case assortments/wave ratios.  I really think that kills distribution down the pipeline... and they need to start limiting the first wave's production of a new line some.  Stores order so much of the first stuff then they don't want to order subsequent waves.  Hasbro should know this by now.

This has made me crazy for years.  I'm still seeing sections filled with the TPM wave, and I have not seen a single figure past that.

It's like 1999 all over again!

I'm just a little surprised that nothing has come out about these being in Disney - CA.  It could either be because these are only debuting in Florida early due to the Celebration and will later come to CA, or because they are a limited release just to coincide with Celebration and then carry through a few months more.  I think (and hope) the first option is more likely.

I will remain on the verge of outrage for now.

What is getting me is that right now it seems like this really is going to be a Disneyworld - Florida exclusive, with no online availability.  It apparently won't even be available in Disneyland, CA!  Makes me think that this really is just an exclusive for Celebration VI that is happening down there - another little temptation for all those SW fans to pay the entrance fee for DW while they're there.  I'm on the verge of outrage...but am still holding out for some sort of official word from Hasbro/Disney about future distribution of these parts.

I can't believe some webmaster hasn't been able to get the official word on these things from the collector's perspective.

Are all of these parts totally random or can they be assembled into droids that at least make sense?

I think the parts are all color coordinated enough so you can make multiple droids from the pieces in the sets that make sense.

For example, there is an olive green colored body piece, plus a white body piece that has panels painted the same olive green color.  You can therefore pair either one with an R2 dome with olive green panels, or an R5 dome with olive green striping.  Or switch them around.  Same with multiple parts painted the same royal blue colors or whatever.

I do know that their isn't an equal number of pieces.  There's like 25 domes, but only 12 different bodies.

In a frame or two it looks almost like those mandalore fighters have astrodroids on board.  I'm sure they actually don't, but it would be cool to see bad guy fighters with astrodroids.  So far we've only seen them in good guy ships.
