The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 Imperial March Promo Campaign

And there's the possibility that we might see the Cal Kestis in Imperial officer disguise revealed in the process.

One of these "Imperial March" reveal sessions is potentially a good spot to officially reveal the rumored “Declan” / Moff Gideon’s Light Cruiser playset too.

Excellent point!

I wonder if this is the way that Hasbro is planning on releasing the single carded Dark Trooper?  It would fit the theme.  And it would be inane to include another Moff Gideon or Elia Kane with the set.

In light of the theme, I expect a fuller look at the upcoming Darth Vader and the Night Trooper 4-pack in the livestream.  And there's the possibility that we might see the Cal Kestis in Imperial officer disguise revealed in the process.

What’s this about a single card version?  I must have missed that announcement.

As for this discount… I went ahead and bought six more.  I figure I’ll throw them in the closet and if they show up in another show or movie I’ll bust them out for that part of the shelving… I had to have my wife order three of the six though, they’re limiting it to 3 per customer.

It was announced as a pipeline reveal during the January livestream.

Dark Troopers are down to $9.44 on Amazon… I don’t need more but that’s tempting.

LOL!  That's less than the new single carded version will cost you, AND you get the charging lockers.

I had 2 misses - I picked EV-9D9 over Tech, and Ki-Adi Mundi over Echo.  The round of 32 is looking like there will be some interesting matchups.  Here's a preview:

NORTHWEST
#1  Baylan Skoll VS #32  Mon Mothma (Coruscant)

#17  Dedra Meero  VS  # 16  Crosshair

#9  Snowtrooper  VS  #24  Second Sister Inquisitor

#40  Chancellor Palpatine (Jedi Arrest)  VS #8  Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi

SOUTHWEST
#61  Jedi Temple Guard  VS  #36  AT-AT Driver

#20  Two Tubes  VS  #13  Wrecker

#12  Asajj Ventress  VS  #44  Bossk

#28  Moff Gideon (Dark Trooper)  VS  #5  Anakin Skywalker (Jedi Knight)

NORTHEAST
#2  Luke Skywalker (Tatooine)  VS  #34  Plo Koon

#18  Peli Motto  VS  #15  Pong Krell

#55  Kelleran Beq  VS  #23  Bodhi Rook

#26  The Client  VS  #7  Baze Malbus

SOUTHEAST
#3  Shin Hati  VS  #30  Savage Opress

#19  Saw Gerrera  VS  #14  Tech

#11  Han Solo (Tatooine)  VS  #22  Echo (Bad Batch)

#27  Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master)  VS  #6  Luthen Rael

Breaking down the representation of remaining characters by content:
PT - 4
OT - 6
ST - 0
ANTHOLOGY - 4

CLONE WARS - 4
THE BAD BATCH - 4

THE MANDALORIAN - 3
ANDOR - 3
AHSOKA - 2

GAMING - 1

It's interesting to see where the interest lies with these picks.  It's a more diverse spread than some people might think.

I'm wondering what people's thoughts are about the Darth Vader.  Notably, the cardback.  It's nice that Hasbro found a way to incorporate the Hildebrandt art into the cardback and relocate the safety label.  Should Hasbro be going back to the well again with the same film still that's been on cardbacks since 1978?

The 4th quadrant results are in:

Shin Hati - 1285  VS  Q9-0 (Zero)  560

Savage Opress - 1135  VS  See-Threepio - 710

Saw Gerrera - 1222  VS  Ben Solo (Exegol) - 623

Tech - 1147  VS  EV-9D9 - 698

Han Solo (Tatooine) - 1141  VS  Supreme Leader Kylo Ren - 704

Echo (Bad Batch) - 1066  VS  Ki-Adi Mundi - 779

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master) - 963  VS  Fifth Brother Inquisitor - 862

Luthen Rael - 1316  VS  Princess Leia Organa (Jabiim) - 529

All of the favorites won this round - a first for the tournament this year.  And it looks like this round also got the most votes of any round, with over 1800 people taking part.  And the closest split was between Obi-Wan Kenobi from ROTS and the Fifth Brother, with 101 votes separating them.

NORTHEAST QUADRANT RESULTS

Luke Skywalker (Tatooine) 926  VS  Nute Gunray (Mustafar)  550

Darth Malak  633  VS  Plo Koon  843

Peli Motto  868  VS  Fozec  608

Pong Krell  872  VS  Carson Teva  604

Momaw Nadon  736  VS  Kelleran Beq  740

Bodhi Rook  808  VS  Amanaman  668

The Client  795  VS  Shasa Tiel  681

Baze Malbus  850  VS Mara Jade  626

Only 2 upsets!  I'm pleasantly surprised that I got those 2 correct.  My own picks went 6 - 2.  I was hoping Carson Teva was going to upset Pong Krell, and Shasa Tiel couldn't pull out a win against Werner Herzog.

Seeding is one thing, and the votes are another.  The guys at SWTVC have been transparent about their data.  They've revealed the number of list submissions as well as the vote totals.  1218 people submitted top 25 lists.  Round 1 saw nearly 1800 people vote.  And they had over 1540 people cast votes in the second round of voting.  That's actually an improvement on their participation numbers, because in the past they have not had as many people submit lists.  But there have always been more people who vote on the bracket poll.  The first region had 7 out of 8 favorites win.  The second region had more upsets - 5 favorites and 3 underdogs won.  I'm curious to see how the numbers pan out from yesterday's voting.  Ultimately, the bracket voting isn't always going to reflect the seeding.

As for the Tonnikas?  I voted against them.  I gave up on that lost cause a long time ago.  Lucasfilm has either the characters or the actors blacklisted, for whatever reason.  And I refuse to continue banging my head against the wall for that particular lost cause.  I actually ran into a former senior Hasbro exec at a con during the fall.  He said that he tried to get them made, even down to the point of only making one of them.  And Lucasfilm would not relent.  He added that while the Hasbro Star Wars team has turned over since his tenure, the same people are in place at Lucasfilm licensing, and their position on the issue has almost certainly not changed.

Plus, I voted for the Jedi Temple Guards because I actually like them!  I have ever since I saw them turn up in Clone Wars.  And when the plot point about the Grand Inquisitor having been a temple guard came to light in Rebels?  It raised their stock even more for me.

I think I prefer this format to Last Figure Standing.  That poll felt like a card trick, where ultimately you were having a card forced on you.  The binary choices of a bracket poll give this more of a sense of clarity.

There had always been friction between Hunter and Crosshair.  It seems like now it's all out in the open.  And perhaps the two of them can move forward with a better sense of mutual understanding.

Round 3 Voting is Live

All I can say about who's in the bracket is this - people had all the time in the world to submit their lists in January to help shape who the candidates were for 2024.  Take part or don't.

I was part of the crowd that dropped off with the Last Figure Standing poll because it felt stilted towards a goal that was set by the poll runners.  And when that became more obvious through the voting there was a significant decline in the number of people participating.  By checking out we help things go in one direction or another.

OMG, I actually bought a TBS figure at retail today!  I found a Commander Appo at Target this morning, and decided to pick him up today.
