The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series TROS Wave 4
« on: November 5, 2019, 02:12 PM »
I like the themed nature of this wave as well and wish it would happen more often.  I’m more likely to buy a case of figures if I know I’m going to get all new items, not one or two new items and a bunch of repacks.

77
Just picked one up as well 8) It was kind of weird as I went to check both the closer and further BB stores in my area this morning and no AT-STs were to be had on the shelves.  I then looked it up online which showed the AT-ST was in stock at the closer store (though none were out earlier).  Nevertheless I ordered it online and it was ready for pickup in about 15 minutes.  So a little bit of a strange process to get one, but it all worked out...  If you haven’t gotten the AT-ST yet, the online ordering and store pickup option seems to be the way to get it :)

That new AT-ST looks good 8)
Does it seem to have harder or softer plastic than some of the earlier releases?  The last TVC version of the AT-ST used a soft plastic that tended to warp over time, making it difficult to keep the walker standing.  I’m hoping that’s not the case with this!

I did something similar to you, Matt_Fury.  I originally wanted the very first showing around 6:15pm on Thursday, but had a scheduling conflict, so will go to a later one around 8:000pm on my own then with my family on Friday.  I’m definitely looking forward to this  8)

Well, the latest trailer certainly confirms a lot of the JediPaxis spoilers from Reddit...

I was thinking the same thing  ;)

I received mine last week on Friday, but Amazon didn’t pack it very well so when the shipping box got damaged during the shipping process, the Palpatine set box also go partly crushed as well.  I returned it and got a better example the other day.  It’s a really neat set and the figure looks fantastic  ;D

I stopped by a local Walmart last night to see what was left after Friday and they had the Jabba’s Palace set.  I didn’t get it as it’s not quite my cup of tea, but it was there at the store.

Ah, so the Jannah figure is #98, and has yet to be released...  I was wondering if I was missing a figure after seeing my Triple-Force Friday haul didn’t have that number.

One issue with mine is the bottom left turret is rotated about 45 degrees off-center. I've seen some similar issues from others that have had this. Since I bought on Amazon, I'm tempted to go the replace item route, and swap out the turret from the replacement. Has anyone ever returned/replaced Star Wars items through Amazon? Do you have an overlap, or do you have to send yours in first? I had contacted Hasbro directly, and they wanted me to send it in first and wait for a replacement. I'd rather not have to deal with it twice though.

My X-Wing had the off-center cannon as well, but I was able to twist it into the correct position with a pair of pliers.

However, Amazon also has an excellent return/refund policy that is very easy to use and very generous.  I actually just did a return for a Star Wars Black Series 6” Emperor Palpatine & Throne set where the box came severely damaged in shipping.  Under the listing for an order, there is a button for returns that will give you several choices, including returning an item for a refund, return and replace an item, etc.  If you choose to return and replace an item, Amazon will provide you a QR code. You can then take the returning item to a Kohl’s or UPS store, show them the QR code and they will pack and ship the item at no cost to you.  When you choose the return/replace option, Amazon will automatically send you a replacement item, frequently shipping that same day.  I did the return/replace option for the Emperor figure on Friday and the replacement is arriving today.

Good intel.  I was planning to keep mine boxed and will do so permanently now.

Has anyone opened their Poe X-Wing yet? I’m curious to hear what everyone thinks about it...

I opened mine last night and it is an impressive and highly detailed piece. Certainly one of the best X-Wings done for the Star Wars line to date.  Really, it’s more of a model than a toy and totally designed for the discerning adult collector rather than a child. It is not simply a repaint of the smallish TFA X-Wing toy. The ship is about the same size as the large OT X-Wing, so as can be seen in the box photos, it’s under-scaled, but still pretty large overall. The construction is pretty solid and the wing extension mechanism seems fairly robust.  The wings don’t seem to be too prone to warping, but there is a slight sag to them.  Perhaps flying or tightening a couple screws might fix that... The guns may require some bending to get into the proper parallel position when the wings are closed.  The paint work over the entire model is excellent and the weathering (basically a panel lines highlighting and wash) is just right.

The awesome part with this model is the attention to detail and variety of working features.  The cockpit has all the controls detailed, including a full control stick and pilot’s seat. The instrument hood swings up so a figure can be inserted easily. The TVC Poe Dameron figure fits in easily - as this is a large figure, I would suspect most other pilots will fit.  Behind the cockpit, A cover pulls off over the droid socket to allow one to insert a droid figure. Either a BB-8 figure or full R2 unit figure can fit.  The upper port engine has an opening access panel. Under the fuselage, the cargo compartment opens and the boarding ladder is stored there.  The ladder can be removed and mounted in a couple small holes under the fuselage so a pilot can “climb” into the ship.  The landing gear (nose & main gears) are fully retractable, fold up into their respective bays, and are fully covered by the bay doors. The main gears are designed to rotate to fit into their bay properly.  It’s a neat feature, but the plastic used seems a tad soft and I wonder how long they will hold up in the long run...

Overall, I am very impressed with this model.  It’s great to have a large and highly-detailed X-Wing model as well as a properly-done starfighter from the Sequel Trilogy.  Even if you’re not wild about the new films, this X-Wing is worth picking up  ;D

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series TROS Wave 1

I had no trouble finding the white boxed figures...  The first Walmart I hit had them all, but there was only one Mandalorian that I let another collector take (plenty of the regular black/red boxed Mandalorians though).  The Target I went to afterwards also had plenty of the white boxed figures and then I found the “Carbonite” Mandalorian there, so got that for the $24.99 price.  A second Target I visited (well after the opening hours) still had plenty of the white box figures, including the Mandalorian, so I picked that up as well.  Between about three stores in my area, I was able to get the complete first edition wave all for the $19.99 price.  What surprised me was the smallish selection between the Targets and Walmarts I visited (one Walmart wasn’t even planning to stock the Star Wars stuff, or so they said) and the fact that a lot of the other collectors I encountered weren’t wholly interested in the Black Series 6” figures or the 3.75” TVC ones. I was certainly one of the few people buying more than a couple of the figures at a given time.

After failing to find Poe’s X-Wing at multiple Walmart’s and Targets, I ordered it on Amazon.  The price was at retail, I have free prime shipping, and they included a small discount coupon...  Not bad.  Then I saw Corman’s post about the X-Wing being at Barnes and Noble, so I went and checked my local store and there it was.  I still get an educators discount there, which knocked 20% off the price, so I got the X-Wing for a little over $86 :) By then it was too late to cancel the Amazon X-Wing order. I’m not sure if I’ll hang onto it or return it when it comes.

Galaxy of Adventures / Re: Triple Force Friday - October 4th
« on: October 4, 2019, 11:39 PM »
Not sure whether this is any helpful observation on the topic of discussion, but I was surprised by the turnout, or lack thereof, with Triple Force Friday.  There were no midnight events in my area, so I went to a nearby Walmart right when it opened at 7:00am this morning.  There were only two other collectors there and the store was still in the process of putting the end caps and aisle displays out.  The other collectors and I had a nice time getting what we wanted and helping each other out, but we were surprised by how little there was overall.  Even the store stock manager was saying there really wasn’t all that much.  After the Walmart, I went to check out a nearby Target when it opened at 8:00am.  This time there was about 8 people and the store was still putting items out as we came in - the selection was largely the same as at Walmart.  After getting a couple items at Target that weren’t at Walmart, I went to another local Walmart that had no Star Wars out.  Asking an employee about where the Star Wars items might be, he said they had no plans for it, which seemed odd...  After that Walmart, I went by a couple more Targets, most of which were not terribly picked over, at least in terms of the Black Series and TVC figures.  No Walmart or Target had the larger TVC ships and I bought the Poe X-Wing at Barnes and Noble of all places (which was actually nice as I got my 20% off educator’s discount there ;) ).  Despite the lack of collector traffic and overall limited selection, I was able to find everything I wanted so it was a successful day...  Still, the limited scale of it all surprised me compared to previous “Force Fridays”.

I’m kind of torn on this X-Wing...  I didn’t get the Trench Run version, but got the TVC Biggs X-Wing that uses the same tooling.  While the new fuselage and detailed cockpit are quite nice, the wings and main landing gear remain basically unchanged from the POTF electronic X-Wing from over 20 years ago and are dated...  If they changed that part of the model, it would be fantastic.  Otherwise, I may just stick with my 1/30 scale Revell X-Wing kit, which is actually bigger than the TVC model!
