I was somewhat surprised to see a 0-0-0 in a GameStop store today.  But then I remembered that Zero was being re-released for Fan Channel retailers.

I picked up TVC Farmboy Luke at GameStop yesterday!  The blister was cracked, but it's fine by me because I'm going to open it.  Amazon is still showing delivery dates for that wave in the middle of February.

It's strange how you might find just one figure out of an entire wave in a store.  But even GameStop is starting to dry up as a brick & mortar source - simply because it seems like more stores are closing.

I just saw a blurb on Facebook about the collection.  It’s being valued around $7 million????

I agree wholeheartedly that the entire Bad Batch should have been offered in TVC by now.  And looking at more of the March Madness character nomination posts that people have been sharing, Clone Force 99 is representing again.  Demand is there.  But I think Hasbro has been really hesitant to go there.

I think a big reason for it all is because TVC, more than the Black Series, tends to look further back in the Star Wars source material than the Black Series does.  So there always seems to be demand for things from the OT, as well as calls for playsets and vehicles.  I think it's diverting Hasbro's resources from new media.  And shows like TBB and now Skeleton Crew suffer.  TBS isn't always trying to make the next Cantina alien or some deep cut Imperial officer.  The Black Series also isn't offering playsets or vehicles, so they can stay much more current with new media.

The show was a lot of fun.  My kid and I were really looking forward to finally watching the finale last night.  And it didn't disappoint!  We were even saying we had never seen B-Wings like that since they had been in REBELS, and never in live action.  I was glad to see KB reach Kh'ymm in the call for the X-Wings.  And while I really enjoy Carson Teva in the other Disney+ series, I'm glad that his character didn't get shoe-horned into this show.

The kids in the cast were great, and the writing suited them really well.  And I think Jod was an interesting character.  He explained enough about himself without it sounding like he was "monologuing", and the Supervisor part was a bit of surprise.  Jod's character seemed somewhat inspired by Long John Silver from "Treasure Island", and perhaps you can't have a story about pirates that includes a kid without drawing that possible parallel - even in a galaxy far, far away.

From what Hasbro has publicly stated, lines like the Epic World of Adventure are geared specifically towards kids.  And they also have a distinctly different development budget than TVC or The Black Series.

The FedEx app was essentially useless for the Ghost.  My shipment lingered in the "Label Created" status for around 10 days, and then it got to "Out For Delivery".  What good are these tracking tools if there are no location or movement updates???

I think the eras of content have just as much to do with the segmenting of collector sentiment as anything else.  There's the OT cohort, as well as a segment that discovered Star Wars on home video.  Then there's the PT era crowd that experienced that as kids.  Things got segmented further with animation starting around 2008.  I think THAT cohort is substantial based on the number of hours of programming - Clone Wars had over 54 hours worth of episodes!  You need a lot of characters to fill all of that time.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Rogue Squadron
« on: January 12, 2025, 12:34 PM »
Interesting!  I think if it's going to be a Rogue Squadron show (either a movie or a series), then it should probably include Wedge Antilles as the central character.  And I think you have to re-cast the role.  He might be seen as a Star Wars luminary - especially since he doesn't just play Wedge, as well as the uncle of Ewan McGregor - but I think there are very few actors in the saga that are indispensible in their roles.

I think how Lucasfilm approached Mon Mothma is the perfect example of what can be done now.  I think it was a very happy accident that Genevieve O'Reilly was cast in the role of Mon Mothma for ROTS, and she reprised the role in ROGUE ONE to great effect.  And then she's gone on to play Mon Mothma in REBELS, ANDOR, and AHSOKA.  I think doing something similar with Wedge's character is probably the right move for a good Rogue Squadron story.  It gives some continuity to things.

As we're in the first weeks of 2025 I have to wonder how much our community is tapped into the TVC Zeitgeist, and what we might see from ANY wishlists in the coming year.  There's one character from P-Siddy's breakdown of voting that has been announced, albeit with an asterisk:

31   Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (Revenge of the Sith) - Essentially on the way in "The Journey of Anakin Skywalker", and Yakface is strongly hinting at a carded release with alternate deco and ROTS logo.

Per the Hollywood Reporter - ‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Rory McCann Replacing the Late Ray Stevenson for ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2

I know there was a lot of speculation about who might take on the role of Baylan Skoll.  And I don't envy Rory McCann, because taking over the role will certainly be a challenge in light of the impression that Ray Stevenson made in his performance of Baylan.  But Rory McCann's performance as the Hound in Game of Thrones wound up being one of the gems of that series.  It's just too bad there's probably no chicken on Peridea, LOL!

Good lord!  That is just an unbelievable collection.  And I agree - those pop-up displays are pretty incredible to see.  Although I would have thought he would have an open example of the Palitoy Death Star.

Looks like YakFace is doing a Top 25 for TVC and TBS as well.

The Yakface Top 25 polls are the culmination of their Top Ten series of polls that ran throughout 2024, much like the ones that were run over here.  It's a tournament of champions.  I tried to pick as many of the characters that made my March Madness Top 25 as I could, but I think my list only wound up having about a dozen of the eligible choices in the Yakface polls.

It's been interesting to see how this year's March Madness is playing out.  And it's also been cool to see how this kind of opinion polling has lined up with what Hasbro has chosen to produce in The Vintage Collection since it started in 2021.  Some quick stats?  Every year the bracket tournament has 64 entries.  So what kind of progress has been made?

2021
MADE - 37
ANNOUNCED - 3* (*denotes the entry - the Tonnikas account for one entry, but two figures)
UNMADE - 20

2022
MADE - 28
ANNOUNCED - 5* (*denotes the entry - the Tonnikas account for one entry, but two figures)
UNMADE - 31
REPEAT APPEARANCES - 42
POLL DEBUTS - 22

2023
MADE - 21
ANNOUNCED - 6* (*denotes the entry - the Tonnikas account for one entry, but two figures)
UNMADE - 37
REPEAT APPEARANCES - 51
POLL DEBUTS - 13

2024
MADE - 2
ANNOUNCED -11* (*denotes the entry - the Tonnikas account for one entry, but two figures)
UNMADE - 51
REPEAT APPEARANCES - 45
POLL DEBUTS - 19

2023 and 2024 accounted for a lot of the progress made with the poll entries.  But I think it goes without saying that you have to participate to really let your voice be heard.
