LEGO / Re: Lego 2013

I'm struggling with the giant Ewok Villiage, as I struggle with most of the expensive playset environments.

I've been putting together all of the sets (nearly all) that I've acquired over the past 15 years with my 5 year old son and for the most part he is completely uninterested in Star Wars playsets.  He wants vehicles and things that look more action oriented.  Although he does like the City playsets (fire station, etc.)

The only SW playset that I've managed to get him interested in is the Death Star, but even that has been languishing half built for the past month.

$250 is a lot of scratch.  I'm still struggling to pull the trigger on Jabba's Palace for half that price.

Who knows, maybe my son will eventually get interested in the SW playsets when he gets older, but right now I would probably rather spend the $250 on City playsets.

The wife and I saw it last night and we both enjoyed it. Good, not great, but certainly a movie I would recommend.

I thought some of the parallels with WoK were neat. Kirk dying of radiation poisoning and Spock yelling out "KHAN!"

I can see how die hard trek fans might struggle with the whole new timeline and characterization.  I like it as it leaves things wide open for new things.

How Disney Bought LFL

Really interesting story there.  Fills in a lot of details about just when Lucas decided to get the band back together for Episode 7, when Disney came on board, etc.  Definitely a good read.

I'm not an investment banker, but it looks like Disney got a steal compared to what they paid for Pixar and Marvel.  They paid $7 billion and $4 billion for Pixar and Marvel, respectively, while paying $4 billion for Lucasfilm.

Page 3 of the article shows the cash flows at the three companies at the time of purchase and Lucasfilm generates significantly more operating income than Marvel.

Other Collectibles / Re: Star Wars Posters
« on: March 8, 2013, 03:35 PM »
Anyone know "the right way" to display and store posters?  I've got a pile of SW posters that I've acquired over the past 20 years that are mostly still in the original shipping tubes.

I was looking at framing my favorites.  It looks like people are going either with $100 custom frames or cheaper Target-ish versions.

I've also heard you should store posters flat and not rolled?  Any thoughts?

I was looking at buying some archival quality mylar sleeves and flattening all of my posters.  However the mylar sleeves look fairly expensive.  The cheapest I found was $7.5 per poster sized sleeve.  I've got about 50 posters and that adds up.  I was also looking at acetate which is cheaper, but I'm not sure what is recommended.

Thoughts on display and storage?

Was it any good?

Anybody read this one?  It's been years since I've bought a Star Wars novel but I think zahn's stuff is the best set of novels in the Star Wars galaxy.

I think its also a testament to the show how well the casting was done.  I think there were four successful actors/actresses that got their start on this show, plus a few other people you've seen pop up from time to time.

Seth Rogan
Jason Segel
James Franco
Linda Cardellini

If Hamill and Fisher are in the new movies I hope they get digitally re-touched.  They haven't aged well and might scare the kids  ;)

I just hope they stay away from Spielberg and any of Lucas' buddies.  I've not been impressed with Spielberg's recent work and would love to see them go with someone capable of challenging GL's opinions.

I agree with a previous post that Lucas' "yes men" have not been helpful.  Saw "Red Tails" the other day and thought it was on the bad side of below average.

EW.com had a great potential list:
  • Christopher Nolan
  • Peter Jackson
  • JJ Abrams
  • Joss Whedon
  • Guillermo del Toro

Lucas must have terminal cancer to give up his control of his projects.

Downloaded OS6.  Looking forward to FaceTime on 3G networks.

I think Apply completely screwed up by going away from Google Maps.  Google Maps are far, far superior to the junk Apple just put out.  3D is nothing but a gimmick.

Met Matt at a local meeting to sell some POTF2 figures for his collection.  Smooth transaction.

I haven't seen anything clear out of comic con. Didn't seem like they showed any new clone wars figures (other than realistic styling).   Anybody there and hear anything about the future of this line?

Super lame.  Saw the video on JTA.  This is about the lamest, most un-fun thing I've seen Hasbro release in a long time.  I think my kids would play with this for about 10 minutes before moving on and never touching it again.

Its hard to see how I would pay more than $50 for this, and that is almost solely because I'm still somewhat of a completist.
