The Legacy Collection / Re: Recent Legacy Purchases
« on: October 15, 2009, 07:40 PM »
I came across a very random Star Wars find today, at a local Rite Aid drugstore of all places...  The store had in stock the "Crimson Empire" figure pack and the "Rand Ecliptic" TIE Fighter with Hobby and the Rebel insignia on the wings.  They did not have price tags on them and I did not check the prices, but I would guess they are probably cheaper than on line.  The TIE looked interesting, but not so much that I wanted to pick it up.  Still, these might be showing up at your own local Rite Aids, so keep a lookout!

I've had mine for over a month.  It is a very well done piece with lots of detail, an accurate sculpt, and realistic paint-work.  The "cockpits" are a nice feature, but I really like the rolling tank tread.  This vehicle is an example of what Hasbro designers can do when they put their minds to something... wish they had done more of that with the Y-Wing.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Walmart Legacy Collection AT-ST
« on: October 15, 2009, 01:39 PM »
That's what I would like to know...  Having collected the 21st Century Toys "Xtreme Detail" military line, which was until recently sold at Wal Mart, I am used to not finding "exclusive" items at my area stores for months after the release date, if at all.  Hasbro, however, has usually performed better.  I've seen all the exclusive SW items released so far on the shelves at my area stores, so I find it odd that the AT-ST has not yet come out.  There aren't even any on eBay from the US yet.

It was surprising to me that TRU (at least in my area) got the new TIE Interceptor and Gunship exclusives so quickly, so I thought Wal Mart was going to do the same with the AT-ST, but so far nothing.  The arrival of the AT-ST is probably only a short time away, probably in late October or November.  In the mean time, I will continue to wait  and check my Wal Marts weekly around the restock days.  The AT-ST will be out soon enough and hopefully in large enough numbers.

So I sat down last night and watched a re-run of "Empire" on Spike TV, partly to relax, but also to catch the 2-3 seconds you see Willrow Hood running by with his ice cream maker :P

That has to be one of the most obscure movie characters ever made into an action figure 8)

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: CW Y-Wing Starfighter

I've had my Y-Wing since mid-August and I share many of the sentiments already echoed.  In short, I like the ship, but feel that more could have been done with it for the price point.  I see it as an example of Hasbro moving in the right direction - making larger vehicles with greater amounts of realistic detail - but the ship fell short from what it could have been in many respects.  For one, the paint job could have used more weathering and coloration.  Other Hasbro ships have that, including contemporary releases like Wedge's X-Wing at Target.  The Y-Wing just screams white and yellow, almost to the point of being garish.  My second beef is sort of funny, but I would have really liked landing gear that completely closed up inside the ship, without the open spaces (same for the missile bays).  I know that is something Hasbro does not do on very many ships, but it would have been a nice touch on the Y-wing.  Thirdly, the turret.  I like its shape and the controls for it, but that piece should have at least had elevating guns and been able to rotate.

All in all, I do like the new Y-Wing and am glad Hasbro made it, but it could have been a real gem.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Exclusives, exclusives, exclusives...

A random question, however, have the new AT-ST and Dewback been spotted at retail in US Wal Marts yet?  I've not seen them in my area and ebay seems to be devoid of them for the moment as well.  The TRU exclusives have been out in my area for well over a week now.  Just thought I'd ask ;)

I like the looks of these too.  The Luke figure is fantastic and much better than the one that came with that large Battle of Hoth set from Target a couple years back.  Willrow Hood is, well, Willrow Hood.  Quite amazing to see you guys got your obscure figure made and great to have a basic civillian figure as well.

TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Two Discussion Thread
« on: October 6, 2009, 01:15 PM »
I was pleased with the episode overall.  Apart from the lengthy commercial breaks, it was fun to watch.  Lots of action and violence, as there should be in such a massive conflict.  The brutal nature of many scenes in the show (beating up Jocasta Nu, Cade Bane torturing the Rodian Jedi to death, etc.) are one thing I have liked about the CW series.  It is accurately depicting the negative events that happen in warfare.  The show is not softened for the little kids and has enough complexities that an older fan can really enjoy it.  In fact, I think it is easier for an older fan to understand everything that is going on in the show and fit it within the greater context of the SW universe.  Having worked with elementary school-age children as a mentor and tutor, I've found that while many really like the CW series, they are at a loss to explain why the clones and Jedi are fighting the seperatists and have no inkling of who their hero Anakin will eventually become :o

I am very interested to see where Asoka's character is going to go during the series...  She is definitely developing in a manner that runs contrary to Jedi ethics; something more like Anakin's personality.  It will be interesting to see what exactly happens to her near the end of the series.  What concerns me more, however, is actually how long this series will continue and how the show will conclude.  It cannot go on indefinitely as there is only a finite amount of time between Episodes II and III and it would be great if the show ended as sort of a precursor to Episode III.

The Legacy Collection / Re: TRU Legacy Collection TIE Interceptor
« on: October 1, 2009, 01:22 PM »
Below are a few pictures I took of the Interceptor and posted on another forum to show off all the little details.  You can easily see the accurate color and new cockpit design, including controls, instruments, seat details, etc.  Yes the wings are still the old design, but they are accurate enough.  The pilot figure pictured is the one that came with the ship.  I think the new Interceptor is one of the best looking and most accurate TIE series fighters we have gotten to date.  It just looks right 8)

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: TRU "Crumb Bomber" Republic Gunship

They also replaced the big Star Wars display at my local TRUs, moving the items back to the regular Star Wars section.  I was OK with that as apart from the Imperial V-Wing, there was never anything new at the big display and it was always picked over. When my stores reset, they put out the new items, including the said gunship 8)

New member here, but longtime Star Wars collector...

I will also report finding the new CW Republic Gunship at the Clovis, CA TRU today 8)  Price was $69.99.  The ship looks great from the box pictures and the modifications seem neat.  However, $70 is a lot for what seems to be rather minor tooling.

I'm content with the Wal Mart exclusive gunship I got last year so I will likely not pick this one up.  Nevertheless, the ship is indeed out at retail.

Given the past history of my local TRUs with exclusive releases (Star Wars, GI Joe, and small scale military lines) I am actually surprised I saw these new gunships and the new legacy TIE Interceptor before the release date ;)

The Legacy Collection / Re: TRU Legacy Collection TIE Interceptor
« on: September 30, 2009, 07:43 PM »
I've recently joined this discussion board, though I've been a long time lurker on Jedi Defender and a regular poster on the Small Scale Headquarters military collecting website...  I've been a Star Wars fan and toy collector since the early 1980s ;)

Anyways, long story short, I found the new TRU exclusive TIE Interceptor at the Clovis, CA. TRU today 8)

My quick review:
The cockpit is entirely new tooling and the interior is great.  Very nicely detailed and largely accurate to the "actual" examples in the film.  Easily the most accurate TIE cockpit seen on any Hasbro TIE ship except perhaps the TIE Bomber.  The ejection seat is cool as is the instrument/control column.  The targeting screen on the control column is painted, though the control sticks are in a different configuration than seen in the film.  The lights and paneling on the cockpit walls are also detailed.  The pod has extendable chin guns and the correctly opening hatch.  The wings are not new toolings and are still date stamped "LFL 1983"!  The figure is also nice and has a removable helmet, like the TIE pilot in the Wal Mart evolutions pack.  The ship is painted in the overall blue-gray color, which I've heard is more accurate to the film than the solid gray.

The only real stinker about the new TIE Interceptor is the price.  Mine rang up to $54.48 which is really a lot considering what all comes in the set (two wings, retooled cockpit pod, and figure).  Darned if I had not already used up my $10 off a $50 purchase card, but the TIE came out much, much earlier than I expected.  Nevertheless, I am happy with the ship and will highly recommend it ;D

« on: September 30, 2009, 07:24 PM »
Just wanted to say hello!  I've followed updates and information on the Jedi Defender website for several years now, but have only just decided to join the forums.  I have been a member and regular poster of the Small Scale Headquarters (GPXD) military collectibles website since 2003 and "know" Jesse James from that site.

While my major collecting focus has been on realistic small scale military items, I also dabble in Star Wars.  In fact, I've collected SW items since the early 1980s, but the majority of my collection dates from the last 10-12 years.  While I may be new to this board, I am rather informed about recent SW trends, items, product lines - not to mention the films, technology, and EU history and the like ;)

In my offline life, I come from a scholarly background where I have a Master's degree in History, and several (small) published works.  I've traveled the world and lived in both England and Italy.  Currently, I work as a consultant and grant writer for a political consulting firm in my town, writing state and federal grants for a myriad of cities, counties, school districts, nonprofits, and private corporations in central California.

So, its good to be on this board and I look forward to some interesting discussions ;D
