JD Sports Forum! / Re: JediDefender Fantasy Baseball 2011

Not that I'm really a baseball fan, but does anyone think the Yankees threw the last few games to the Rays due to the Boston rivalry?  Weren't they giving anyone an opportunity to pitch last night, even if they had a 7-0 lead?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Toy shopping in your dreams?
« on: September 6, 2011, 06:19 AM »
I have had several dreams of going to stores that don't exist.  They end up having a Star Wars toy section that is probably half the size of the entire toy section in Target or Walmart.  I usually find many items that don't exist.  The main item seems to be what look like either never produced or bootleg vintage figures in plastic Kenner baggies.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Cataloging you collection?
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:33 AM »
I have just used a spreadsheet with tabs for different items.  At this point, I just have one tab for vintage that lists everything I have in that area since it is mostly just the 3 3/4" figures and the 12" figures.  For other stuff I have tabs for 3 3/4" OT and prequel, 12" for both and misc. (ships, beast packs, etc.) for both.  Also have tabs for Legos, Hallmark ornaments, replicas, books and comics, loose figures, etc.  For figures I would track name, cardback type, serial number, and price I paid.  For other items, I have different columns, like set number and block count for legos or author for novels and comics.  Last tab is a running total of all of my items, mostly for insurance purposes.

The Star Wars set and a few others went live about 11:30 AM EST.  I have been watching the site all morning.  About 10:30 AM, I got an error on a refresh and figured they were about to go up.  Sometime between then and 11:00 AM they added the "Exclusives" option to the navigation window, but it only had a book until 11:30.  It took me 20 minutes and six different browser windows to get from my shopping cart to the actual checkout page.  Whole site is running extremely slow.

Looks like everything is up now.

He was way to manic in the beginning; a prime example is when Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire.  Book Dumbledore would not have grabbed Harry and shook him like Gambon did.

That would have been the director's decision, not the actors...

So the actor has no say in their performance?  I could understand the child actors no being able to have input, but someone of Gambon's stature?  I would think Gambon would have some input, then again, he never read the books and only a script so he didn't have much of a basis to say something was out of character.

Finally got to see this last night.

For the Gambon/Harris debate, I think one of the biggest gripes about Gambon is that he never read (and from what I can gather, refused to read) the books.  To me, I think that is essential to being a major character in the series.  I would say he got better as he went through the movies.  He was way to manic in the beginning; a prime example is when Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire.  Book Dumbledore would not have grabbed Harry and shook him like Gambon did.

Anyone feel that the pacing in this movie was rushed?  I think they could have benefited from making this installment 2.5 to 2.75 hours long instead of closer to 2 hours long.  I felt that the Hogsmead bit was rushed as well as "the sacking of Snape" (or however that chapter was titled) scene.  I feel that Part 1 came a lot closer to the book than Part 2.

As for character deaths, I think they were pretty consistent.  I guess they got lucky that the actor who played Crabbe was the one busted for pot and not the actor who played Goyle.  I do have one character death question, did Wormtail die in Part 1?  I don't recall seeing him in this movie, but he certainly didn't get his book death.  Towards the end of Part 1 when Harry and company escape the basement, did Dobby kill Wormtail, or just knock him out...it wasn't too clear.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: 12" IG-88? Oh my.
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:23 PM »
This has seemed to be the typical SS mode for the past couple of years.  Up until these last few preorders, pretty much all the 12" stuff had shipped, with the Waxer 2 pack coming out soon.  Now we are getting a ton of preorders all in a row.  Last year it seemed to be the same thing where all the previous years preorders shipped and then they hit us with a ton of preorders in short order.  Not that I can complain when they are doing new stuff like IG-88 and the battle droids without much "duplicates" like Gree.  However, even Gree is a bit unique with the armor color and head sculpt.  With Boba Fett coming, I can only imagine that Jango isn't too far behind.  I wonder if we will be seeing Dengar, Bossk, 4-LOM, and Zuckuss in the not too distant future.

I meant I was shocked that you are getting new sculpts at $60 a piece instead of more like $80-$100 a piece.  I have yet to take any of my clones out the box due to lack of display space so I'm not sure of the type of plastic used.  I would guess it is the more rigid type from the look of it.

I am a bit shocked at the price.  Your average clone now seems to be in line with the Gree price at $125.  The armor has been sculpted for quite some time now.  Only things that are different is a head sculpt (which is partly the same since they all based on the same actor) and the paint scheme.  The battle droids are all new bodies and sculpting and are at a price point that harkens back to the beginning prices points.  I think the original Jedi Luke was somewhere around $60 or less when he first came out.

Wow, glad I stopped by right now.  Thanks for getting this info up.  Exclusive is almost sold out.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Who Wants to Lose Weight?
« on: June 23, 2011, 07:09 AM »
I'm down about 26 pounds in the past 12 to 13 weeks.  We had a contest at work that ran 10 weeks.  I believe some major cheating went on since everyone was on teams of four and there were prizes for the top three teams and also for the top three individuals that weren't on a winning team.  The top two individuals lost 22% and 18.5% and were on the same team.  However, there team was fifth (out of 101 teams).  Essentially means the other two members on their team lost NOTHING.  Don't see how that happens unless the other two didn't weigh in at the end and they just split the top prize money four ways...essentially it would have been $100 per person than if they were the second place team.  Not sure how you lose that much weight in 10 weeks.  At 200 pounds, that is over four pounds a week.  Seems like Biggest Loser numbers to me...don't see where you have that kind of time to workout with a full time job.

It could be the Scottish Book (the Harry Potter Encyclopedia) that JK has mentioned before.  Since it seems to have her direct involvement, I don't think that it would be an online game or another theme park.

Moffet wrote that original story so he is just continuing it now since he is the big cheese.

He may have wrote Silence, but I doubt at that point he had thought there would be a new Doctor with new companions to tie into River's first appearance.

I am interested to see where they are going with it.  I am wondering if they are going to go with obvious answer to who was in the spacesuit in the first episode or go a different way.

Please notice that each episode this season has the word "silence" somewhere in it. Since River Song was introduced in "Silence in the Library" and she is traveling backwards in the Doctor's timeline, every thing in this season relates back to that episode.

That could be true, but it is a bit or revisionist history.  I can't believe that the writers or whomever decided back then that what took place in the last episode would be what would happen.  There were Tennant's season of specials and Matt Smith's first season between Silence and now.

If that were the case, wouldn't LeBron et al. have gone to Dallas?  Snyder is a complete ass who craps on the fans and runs the Skins like a fantasy football team.

I know it's a popular sentiment nationally but that's not really an accurate view of the guy anymore. I'm a former season ticket holder and I certainly don't agree with everything Danny has done, but he is much like Cuban in his youth and obsession for winning (and tendency to rub some people the wrong way). The Skins just don't have any actual success to show for it.  ::)

I love that Cuban basically just shut up for the whole playoff run and did not allow himself to become a distraction. You know he was itching to have a go at Philip after that sweep.

What did you guys think of Lebron's postgame comments?

I grew up in the DC suburbs.  Synder has only been hands off in the past year.  Things like getting rid of Brian Mitchell so they could bring in a washed up Deon Sanders or drafting Heath Shuler are prime examples of his screw ups.  Just about everything at a Redskins game experience sucks...especially the extreme nightmare of parking, nevermind the price to park.  Synder has bought up DC radio stations so he can have complete control over broadcasts...i.e. no one can bad mouth him or the team.  The guy is nothing like Cuban, and he certainly is no Jack Kent Cooke.  He is just a rich guy with a Napoleon complex.
