Parallels between the PT and the OT
« on: April 8, 2005, 03:01 PM »
I'm sure most of you have picked up on this, but I thought it would be kinda cool to point some of them out.

First Movie:
- An older Jedi Master dies at the hand of a sith lord.
- There is a celebration ceremony at the closing credits showing our heroes on a dais.
- Skywalker destroys the Enemy's major weaopn by some nonconventional tactic.
- Skywalker leaves Tatooine and feels some sort of loss

Second Movie:
- There's a space battle in an asteroid field.
- Skywalker, the heroine, R2 and Threepio stare out at an uncertain future before the closing credits.
- Skywalker loses part of an arm.
- R2-D2 has to Put C-3PO back together.
- The lower ranking Sith Lord tries to get a Jedi Hero to join him.

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them right now.  I'm also not going to touch the ROTJ/ROTS similarities just because I'm trying to stay away from Spoilers, although I can readliy point to a lightsaber battle that looks errily familiar from the previews.

Can you think of any I missed????

Good list Matt. Personally I think Lucas went too heavy-handed on the OT parallels.

Perhaps, Valin, but it's a common literary trait.  Just about every author does it.

For instace, I'm a big fan of Dan Brown's books and have read them all, but they almost have the same plot to them....just different settings.  It doesn't mean I won't buy his next book when it comes out.  :)

I, for one, always liked the similarities from Eps II and IV that occur at the Lars' Homestead.  When Luke returns to find his family slaughtered and when Anakin leaves to search for his mother the symbolisim of the same music and both of them standing in front of the same doorway.  I like the parallels it draws -- its the moment I always felt Luke turns a corner from a whiney kid and starts his journey towards becomming a man and a Jedi & the moment Anakin turns a corner from a whiney kid to becomming a man with a much darker persona.

I'm just going to make a quick post about something I'd like to see someone here do, if possible.

I want an image macro of Luke standing on the scaffolding in the Emperor's Throne Room in ROTJ with the caption "It's over Vader, I have the high ground!" underneath.   ;D

I guess certain Sith Lords learned their lesson about jumping without thinking and subsequently losing their legs. :)
