I saw someone else made one like this a while now, and I thought it was an awesome idea, so I made my own:

You did a very nice job on this. First custom? Wow - you are already years ahead of where I started at.
In fact, I'd like to ask you a couple questions...
(1) Is the Clonetrooper glued in place at all?
(2) Is Yoda glued onto him?
(3) Is the Yoda a kit bash from other Yodas? Meaning is the cape from the Deluxe Yoda?

(1) The Clone is glued onto the base.
(2) No, the Yoda is held into place by the lightsaber hilt and the Clone's arm.
(3) The cape is from the Crotch Grabbing/spinning Yoda.

Awesome! You could make a little diorama out of this and include an Obi Wan slashing down a couple more 501st while Yoda stabs this one.
In one of the original intentions of this scene, Obi Wan was supposed to be seen walking in front of the temple dressed like a vagabond, holding a small package in his arms. Some 501st troopers approach, and ask him what he's doing there and what he's holding. Obi-Wan posing as a vagabond says, "A jedi baby," and the clones ask "How can you tell it's a jedi baby?" That's when either Yoda or Obi-Wan say "By it's lightsaber" and Yoda springs from his arms and starts the action...

I remember that. That was one of the more silly scenes in the movie. Good positioning on both yoda and the clone.

Did you paint the Clone as well, or is that one of the new Jedi Temple Raid Clones? Looks good, either way.

I'm pretty sure that Clone is custom painted... the legs are a dead giveaway since the Temple 5-pk Clone legs are pure white.

Yeah, it's a custom painted #41, and I waited until the paint half dried, and then used a paper towel to weather it.

This is Hrchek Kal Fas, the Trandoshan Cantina guy. The head and hands are From Bossk, and the body is a MASH Hawkeye. This is my first try, so it leaves much to be desired. I'm still a rookie in normal customs, much less vints.

Seriously though, this is a nice custom! It captures the vintage style nicely, and as an added bonus, this guy can sit down in a natural position, something none of the original vintage Kenner figures could do!

I'm not a fan of the vintage like too much, but this is a nice fun custom. I like how you used a vintage MASH figure for him. It's a good match.

There's one thing I forgot to add to the first post:
Since some of the vintage Kenner figures used the production nicknames for the actual character names, I have decided to dub this figure Croc Man.

Mag, i think this is a nice figure. If i may suggest anything, it would be to smooth/ sand the areas where the parts are glued together.
For example the wrist's dont line up exactly, but sanding it so that the edges are closer would do wonders. It would take the custom to the next level.

That's an interesting concept, and makes him look like he's seen a lot of action! I would suggest painting the Grievous parts a different color so they don't look like they came from him.
And the hat... good idea, but I think maybe it's too recognizable as a waist piece from another figure (Lak Sivrak?).
Keep up the customs... I'd like to see you post each one individually in this thread, and post a description/name for each one.

First of all, this is a Wookiee Bounty Hunter that I made mostly from those crappy Battle Pack parts. :P The only parts that aren't from the Battle Pack are the hat and the weapon, which are from Lak and the AT-RT driver respectively. I call him Regnig.

And this one is Yoda vs. a 501st Clone. The clone is custom painted, and it was made by cutting the lightsaber in two and gluing the parts to either side. It was also my first custom.

And this is my second custom; Obi-Wan slicing through a 501st. The Clone was painted and then sawed and part of it was glued back together.

This is my WIP Obi-Wan in Clone Armor from the Clone Wars cartoon. It was made using an AT-TE Tank Gunner's body and the Battle Pack head, cloak and helmet. I cut the neck post thing down and cut out the chest piece from the cloak (I'm still working on doing that actually :P).

Wow, I really like the Obi Wan cutting up the Clone... I think that with Obi Wan's poseability, you could make it a little more action packed even. Also, seeing that you did such a good job on painting the Clone, I think you could add just a bit of weathering to Obi Wan.

Sure! See this one that I made? Ignore the clone armor, and focus on the Jedi clothes... I just did a slight wash, and a little dry brushing. Nothing too major, but adds a little bit of realism.

Or like on this figure - on the "grooves" of the chest on this figure, a little bit of paint adds some depth to the sculpt.

Wow. It's the little details that make a figure. Maybe that's why I like yours so much?

I'm not to keen on the Wookiee. It is an intersting use of parts but for some reason it doesn't really appeal to me. I think if you make the skirt/hat less recognizible an painted the Grievous parts, like CHEWIE said, it would help a lot. I'd ditch the AT-RT driver gun, that thing looks ridiculous. The black on the fr doesn't look very natural, try drybrushing it on to give it a more realistic look.
The 501st clone sets look pretty good. I like the little melted armor disk on the yoda version, it is a nice touch. Again I'm going to agree with CHEWIE, Hasbro gives us SA for a reason, use those joints. ;)
You are off to a good start on your CW Obi-Wan. I took a similar route on mine I made awhile back, but I used a SA clone. Here's a pic of mine if you are interested:

I really like the vintage Saurin. He is a Saurin, not a Trandoshan BTW. They are close but not the same species.

This one is my Reegesk (Rat Face). It's made from an Ugnaught body, one of those rubber rats, and a Jawa cloak.

Cool vintage-esque Cantina display; not enough people make those, so it's always nice to see different versions.
I really like that Reegesk guy. It looks factory and still has a very vintage feel to it, nice work. I can definitely see that figure blending in perfectly with any Mos Eisley Cantina dio. Great job!

Nice job on the vintage custom. I agree with Glassman's comments on sanding the glued areas to even out the edges, but other than that I think you accomplished the vintage-feel of the figure very well.

Thanks! I have added a glossier finish and a better paint job to the Reegesk since that picture was taken. I'll try to get a better pic later on.

This is my next vintage custom. It's Lak Sivrak (Hyena Man, for a vintage Kenner name). It's made from a repainted modern Lak Sivrak head and a Burger King Wolfman body.

I like it, I'm with some of the other guys I'm not a big fan of the vintage figures but using an articulated body makes it that much better well done.

Hi you've got a good range of figures the wookie would look great if you added some extra paint to the cyborg parts and I think a smaller gun would looks heaps better.

This is my new vintage-style BoShek. It's made from a vintage Bossk body, hands and boots from modern figures, and the head is from a modern remake of a vintage GI Joe Action Pilot.

It's pretty easy actually, just try the boil-n-pop method as instructed over at www.ffurg.com.

You know, given Maul's outfit being blousier above the knees, a black vinyl cape cut like vintage Lando's might actually look cool and give him the bulk around the torso created by his blousy duds. I'm just trying to think vintage...

For now, I want to stay with the cloth cape. I think I'll trim it to make it a little smaller, though.

if you want to stay with a cloth cape why not the cape that came with the ROTJ Jedi Luke, dye it black and cut off the hood part if you don't want that.
the only thing i don't care for is the silk-type material cape with the vintage style....Kenner used "cheap-y" materials like the vinyl & the "expensive" stuff was the cloth like on the Jawa or the Jedi Luke or Luke/Leia/Han Endor/Battle Poncho.
I'm not trying to be critical at all...I love what you have done with the figure itself, and if you like the silk bend-ems cape stick with it. keep up the good work.

You could also either dye or paint the vintage Royal Guard robe(s),as another alternate idea .

I think the best idea is to dye the rotj luke cape. It would fit the best with the character. I'd probably not use a ep1 maul head. It's too detailed for vintage stuff. I saw one where someone used a gi joe RoadBlock for a head, painted it black and added little horns. It had a nice vintage feel to it.

I'm not much of a fan of true vintage style figures like this but that Maul looks cool!!! Come to think of it I'd really like it if Hasbro did something like this for the clone troopers. I still like the old Stormtrooper and a clone would be something I'd scramble to get my hands on.

CHEWIE, if you don't mind, could you tell me how you paint your figures? Do you use an airbrush? I'm satisfied with the sculpt I did on the head, but the paint on the body needs a lot of work.

This is Darth Nihilus from Knights of the Old Republic video game. Pretty simple. He's just a Tattooine Maul with a slighly modified hood and a mask sculpted over the face.

And this is Djas Puhr, alian bounty hunter, as seen in the Mos Eisley cantina. I didn't have the right figures on hand for this, so I improvised a little. The head is a little botched in the pic, so some of the details didn't come through.

For the Darth Nihilus figure, I admire your attempt at this. The mask looks a little rough, but I know I couldn't do any better. I hate sculpting.
The Djas Puhr is nice. I can't really make out the details on the face, but I like how you used the Luke body. It's a great fit for him.

Another addition to your cantina! I have very little experience in vintage customizing except for what I tried as a kid in the early 80s, but he does have the vintage feel to him. Perhaps a bit bulky, but that's ok. Good work.

I agree with you about the bulkiness of it. This figure looked better in theory than it did when I actually made it. ::) I guess there's always time later on for improvements, though.

That's so much better on Djas. I like how you painted the eyes in a kind of catlike look. The ears are also good and the head isn't huge. Is the head originally a Luke? Are you going to paint the body to be something like the saga version?

Yes, the head was once from a Jedi Luke, and I plan on painting the tan areas green or blue later on.

I repainted the Luke body on my Djas Puhr to look more film accurate.
I'm not sure about the clear-coat... is it too shiny?

It is pretty shiny I think, can you tone it down a bit? Maybe now that it has a clear cloat, a regular repaint over it would tone it down and keep it from chipping.

I'm really digging these vintage customs! Great stuff! The Djas Puhr looks great, although maybe using a less glossy clear coat would get rid of the shine.

Cool! Nice and vintage feeling c-3po. Is that the c-3po where the arms and legs come off? If so, it might be a cool idea to make a human arm to replace one of the gold ones. That way he can look like he's getting into his costume. You could then switch the arms back and forth. He's a very good counterpart to my modern version.

Thanks, Phruby! Yes, he is the removable limbs C3PO, and I used that figure for that very reason. I don't have one yet, but I plan on customizing some sort of interchangable naked/costume arm.
BTW, Your 3PO was part of the inspiration for mine.

Great work Magilla! That head looks a lot like Anthony Daniels (I thought it was the Lt. Daniel Faytonni figure at first). I like Phruby's idea of the arms, I think those dollar-store figure arms might be good and still have a vintage feel.

Well, I found the (IMO) perfect arms in my fodder drawer, a lot easier and quicker than I expected. The arms are 100% interchangable with the metallic arms, and they still maintain the same articulation. I plan on painting them a lighter tone to match the face later. LMK what you think!

He looks maybe a tad bit too muscular. You may want to consider black paint to match the hood.

Yeah, I'm hoping to maybe dremel a some of the muscle mass away and paint it black to look he's in the black suit thing.
I just finished another unmasked figure! This one is Slave 1 pilot Boba Fett. I'm not sure if I should paint him to look like Jango, or leave him as is... what do you guys think?
