I figured I'd toot my own horn for a minute and share these with the class. We recently launched a new website of our work and included are a pair of spots for Hasbro light sabers. So, if you're into that sort of thing...

Cool stuff Rob. I'll check the vids when not at work.

Wow! Very cool commericals Rob. That is the kind of stuff I worked on in college and was hoping to make a career out of - lots of cool multimedia projects.
Somehow I end up designing databases for banks. Where did my life go wrong? ???

You're all high tech now. I prefer the old days of foam asteroids. ;D
(still have those Rob, thanks! I think some Fleet Troopers are hiding behind them right now.)

This is fantastic Rob. Way to go. ;D

Nice stuff! Interesting to use older actors for a kids' toy. Says the adult guy on a forum based around kids' toys.
-
Thanks guys!
Patrick, those kids were little ninjas... I'm assuming they go with slightly older actors because you can't get those skills with younger kids.

Those commercials are great. I saw the link earlier via the JF Facebook page. Nice work Rob! What part of the ad process do you handle?

Nice commercials. I'm still not buying the dual spinning saber though. ;D

I do a lot of different things... My title is Art Director... but it's a small studio so we all sort of do art direction, we all design and concept jobs... I do a lot of 2D animation, motion graphics, and compositing. Every now and then we'll edit something, and I'm starting to dabble in a little bit of 3D with Cinema 4D.

True but I also believe they're using older boys in the commercials because the core group that these role play toys are targeted to (3-6 years old boys) want to be older and cool like the kids in the TV spot.
Sort of like what they do with Power Rangers - they use older, atheletic type actors in the show to sell action figures and role play items to 3-6 year olds.

I know my gf and I have always had a laugh at NERF commercials... There's like these 30 year old men running around shooting NERF guns at each other. It definitely is nice for a laugh, but the "hey, those guys look cool!" factor makes sense.

I've worked on a few of those in my day too. :)
We did a lot of stuff for Uproar / Hasbro at my old studio.

As long as you weren't in them.
I mean, that one had even my gf's youngest cracking up because the guy was so serious... It looked like they pulled US SPecial Forces guys to run around with these NERF guns. Older kids looks better I think. The ripped pro-wrestler looking guy doing tactical hand-signals... not so much.

A new Nike spot that we just wrapped on... I'm extremely proud of it. :)
