Star Wars Action Figures / My Quinlan Vos Custom
« on: September 20, 2006, 11:10 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I have a quick custom post today. I just got my Quinlan_Vos head along with some other heads and I could not resist the temptation to paint this head and see what it looks like with color. Here is the pic:

Here is a close up of the face:

The recipe is this:

GTG Quinlan Vos head
Episode 1 OBI-WAN KENOBI (Jedi Duel) body

I am not one for chop and shop customs, but I did have this extra obi wan that I use to display my sculpted heads for pictures. I painted the face and hands dwrf flesh from citadel paints. I then painted the rest of the face based on the clone wars comics. I was really impressed with the results. By far, this has been one of the best sculpts I have ever seen of this charater. I am willing to bet even the Big H can't do as well of a job. I HIGHLY recommend this head sculpt for all you Quinlan Vos fans. Thanks to Bekker and the rest of the GTG team for making this custom posible.

I am your humble fan,

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Wax Issues
« on: April 16, 2006, 03:59 PM »
Hi everyone,

I got my sample of wax from Bantha5 on friday and I got to play with this weekend. I melted the wax using the double boiler method and after 3 tries, I got a near perfect wax cast (Darn Air Bubbles ). I was shocked at first to see that the head was not the same size as the resin copy I made last month.

Now it just so happens that this head accually looks better scaled down than the original. I also have some head sculpts (Bothan small head) that some say could do with some reduction as well. I have no problem with that. I am concern about the heads that I did sculpt to scale and what to do about it. I want to continue to use wax to enhance the details in my sculpts, I should not have to sculpt larger in order to overcome this. Is there anyone who knows of a wax (name and company information) that does not shrink when poured/injected into a mold? I know that Azbro wax has a 4% shrinkage ratio, but I do not know that ratio compared to Bantha5 wax. Did I experience more than 4% or more?

I need your help on this one guys. Thanks.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Neck Post Body List
« on: April 10, 2006, 07:15 PM »
Ok, here is the location for posting your request/ recommendations for those POTF2, POTJ, Episode1, Saga, and OTC body types to get the Neck post conversion treatment. I will start the list off:

Adi Gallia
Agen Kolar (ROTS)
Jedi Duel Obi Wan
Padme droid factory chase

There, now its your turn. The more input I get the more custom posibilities will you all have. Again you can add as many body types to the list, just don't duplicate a type that someone else posted. Thanks.

Star Wars Action Figures / Jedi_Master_Ben's Wax Shop

Hello everyone,

I thought I should make a separate posting covering this question. Who here would be interested in my alien heads? I have a few private messages both from JD and RS forums asking me for cast of these heads I have been making the past week now. I want to get a feeling of who wants them, how many I would have to make and see if I could provide enough. So if you want your own Minbari or another alien head I make, please sound off here. Also, if you have a request for an alien head, I need to know if you want it in a ball joint or peg head and what gender. Pictures are always helpful.

Thanks everyone,

Star Wars Action Figures / Custom Works By Jedi_Master_Ben
« on: March 17, 2006, 11:33 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I have been customizing Star Wars figures since 1992. I started to sculpt my own figures starting in 1996. I was published in Wizzard Magazine in JAN 98 issue for Homemade Heros, where I recieved Grand Prize for my Cantina Diorama featuring my sculpted figures. In 2002, I was commisioned to design 6 figures for a toy company in GA. The toys were fashioned after the New Resident Evil line. Unfortantly, the company did not win the lincence. I am currently desinging charaters for a stopmotion film project. With all this experience, my main love will always be with Star Wars Figures. I surfed the web and came across custom forums and decided to join. I was inspired again to sculpt new figures and share them with others. I came accross this site while looking at Glassman's and Chewie's customs on other forums. I wanted to share with this community my custom works. I have strived to develope my skills to be equaled only by those at Hasbro. With help from Bantha5 and Sithfire_30 as well as hard reaserch and practice I am closer to my goal. Let me know what you think and I am always open to sujestion. So with out further delay, I present my customs and works in progress. Thank you,

Here is my WIP Yarna D'al Gargan (27-FEB-06). This is not a copy of the vintage hard copy. This Yarna D'al Gargan is completely sculpted by me. The body has already been sculpted and a mold was made. I casted the body in resine so I could sculpt the skirt. I filled in the area with clay to give a foundation for the skirt, just like the Kenner hard copy (found at ToysRGus.com as well as Bantha5) The head was sculpted on the body seperatly sitting on the ball joint neck. The figure is ment to be more like a saga sculpt than a Kenner sculpt. The head was molded and casted in resien and snaped on top of a half body. From here, the headress is sculpted on. I like to thank Ryan (Bantha5) for the great refrence photos and for the insperation and advise. I still have a lot of work left.

Here are two pictues of Yarna D'al Gargan progress (06-MAR-06). I also thrown in the clay master of the body that I sculpted. The clay master did not survive the demolding proccess. I lost a lot of the face detail comming out of the mold. But at least you can see what the body looks like.

I made some more progress with the Gargan (17-MAR-06). Here is a picture of the progress of the headdress. I decided not to do a Kenner style, I wanted to do a more movie acurate piece. I still have work to do on the back of the head. Let me know what you think. The best part about sculpting in clay is that if you do not like it, you can change it.

Thanks you.

Star Wars Action Figures / WIP Mawhonic
« on: March 17, 2006, 10:23 AM »
Hi everyone,
I have for you today a almost finished sculpt of Mawhonic, the podracker from Episode 1. This is another part Hasbro part original sculpt figure. The Head, hands, and feet are from the Ask Aak figure from ROTS line. The body is sculpted by me. The neck post is a quick cast of the Ask Aak figure using the impression method into sculpty clay. I do have a general question for those of us that sculpt our figures in clay and wax: At what point in the figure production should articulation be put in, at the clay stage, at the wax stage or at the urethane resin stage? I am not sure if I should do the articulation details into the clay piece or cast it in wax then put in the articulation detail? Any comments would be appreciated. Anyway, here is the picture (I grouped different views into one picture this time
).
