The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 "Vintage" Basic Figure Line
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:55 PM »
And a lot of the discussion about that after the show was that the card-cutting process isn't the same today as it was in 1978...  I know I wouldn't count on the machine leaving the holes "unpunched" because they don't work that way anymore really.

You've never heard of "kiss-cut" then Jesse. It's still used in printing all the time. It's a readily available process.

I'm in advertising/design/printing don't forget. We use this process ourselves several times a year.

Just a couple of years ago the VOTC line had unpunched cards. That process hasn't changed, believe me. If Hasbro wants to make it happen they will.

Since these new Vintage style cards aren't going to be in a clamshell though, there really isn't a need to send these unpunched, save for those few collectors who want their cards cherry.

2 I'd like are the Naboo Soldier and Naboo Guard getting redone (the guy in the red padded helmet/suit and the guy in the brown hat).  They're the two most prominent "soldiers" the Naboo have and they're basically dicked over as action figures.  Even that flight crew guy that was being pawned off as a "Trooper" has a shockingly superior figure to the two original army builders for Naboo.

Considering the guys in the helmets turn up later in other movies and things, I'd really like to see those get their due...

A Naboo Pilot with a cloth trench coat would go a long way with me these days too.  Ric Olie's just kinda meh.  I'd be quite happy if it was a redo of him even.  He's generic enough to suit me.

Yeah, I agree, the Naboo Security, Guard and Pilots need the SA treatment. I'd get at least 5 of each if not more.

After doing a little more thinking, I realized that Aurra Sing is in definite need of an upgrade from the POTJ version.  I'd love to see some articulation added to this cool bounty hunter.

So FYI Scott, I added her to my list.

I know I'm going to get the CW Aurra Sing fig. For now that one will do until/unless Hasbro ever makes a proper SA realistic version of her.

Dang, I knew I should have posted a thread on this...lol

Anyway, earlier this week I found some of these too. Not the good ones like shmashwitdaclub found.

I only found the classic IM, stealth, crimson dynamo and 1st appearance IM.

I'm getting one of each one of these. I want to make an IM hall of armor and these will fit very nicely into my idea.

When I make dioramas, I tend to deal with the disparage of scale by making the dioramas "skewed" perspective. That is to say that larger items will be in the front and smaller ones in the back but the diorama made in such a way that when you look at it, it still looks as though the smaller items are in scale. Angled elements help greatly with this effect and it's something I'll use for the IM Hall of Armor.

Yep, I saw these several weeks ago.

poodachoo, you should check out Halocollectors.com for Halo stuff. While there is only about a dozen of us that are active, you'll get Halo info much quicker there since it's specifically a Halo site.

I'm not trying to steal you away from here, just saying if you want to broaden your Halo fandom, you can add Halocollectors.com to your repertoire of websites you visit.

The $20 price tag is acceptable when you use those $5 off $20 or more coupons!  ;D

I have four that I printed off from a couple of different computers at work saved just for my opener and MIB purchases of this set and the ScoutTrooper/Speederbike set.

Paying $15 + tax isn't anywhere near as bad...

So can you send me a PDF of that coupon?

I don't mind the size. One good thing is that these figures aren't all that much more expensive than SW figures and their much bigger. Not really many army builders either, so I'm not burning through money for these. While this line is rampant with exclusives, it's not been all that bad to find them, eventually.

I'm glad McF took this down from Joyride's scale. Besides, JR never had the detail that McF does. I don't think there would be that much detail though in the 3 3/4" scale.

Though to be sure, I'd have bought them in that scale as well. I'd love to have these standing next to my other figs, SW, Marvel, etc. They look like giants now though in comparison.

Grr, I wanted one in this paint deco, but I'm not paying $20 for it. This needs to drop to about $12-14. Then I'd buy it.

Last night I finally managed to find some of these. Just needing the Concept Snowtrooper, the Alien Bespin Guard and the AT-AT Driver. If anyone can help me out it would be most appreciated. I'd prefer if these have the HK-50 parts, but I'll take them with a different droid part if they're carded like that.

Honestly I will probably be more interested in getting a PT figure on a vintage cardback than before.  Especially for the major characters like Darth Maul, Kenobi, Jinn, Jango Fett, some clonetroopers/commanders, etc.

Yeah, I'm definitely in this camp as well. I'll get the major characters for sure, even if just for the card. I'm still planning on not collecting to keep these carded, but well, you can never say never.

I've been doing surprisingly well for just SW stuff.
January was pretty slim pickings all around for me. I didn't find much new, so I didn't even have the opportunity to buy much. All told I got 6 figures. Nothing else, not ships, no battle packs or comics packs. So with tax I spent just a little over $50.
February is shaping up to be about the same. Only 3 figures purchased at full price and 4 figures at a deep discounted price due to TRU's Pres. Day sale, and one Galactic Heroes pack. Current Feb. tally: $50.

I've budgeted $600 for this year (though I can go over). Given that I still need to catch up on the ANH wave (need Chewie with the Orange droid part) and all but the Black Bespin Guard of the ESB wave, I've got some collecting to do before the summer stuff. But beyond that not much until then. So while there will be a lot of stuff then, I still should be able to stay relative close to my budget, even with the AT-AT, Snowspeeder, and Cloud Car.

Huh, I just realized that the warthog in the above picture is NOT the final product. It looks like it's a mock-up made of foam or balsa wood parts. Look at the texturing and I noticed a holding pin in the second picture where the windshield meets the fender.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great piece, but since it's not the final product, I wonder if McF brought this along to gauge interest in a Warthog.

Let me say that I'm emphatic about having a warthog. It's one of the more iconic vehicles of the Halo series.

Now that they've decided they'd do PT and EU figures on it anyway, they should leave the vintage style packaging indefinitely.

That's how I feel about it.

I have to say again, this needs to be about the product not the packaging. If the figures are good enough or great, people will buy them.

However,I will say carding these on Vintage style cards will most certainly be a draw and I support the vintage style for the long haul. Maybe not the next 8 years that Hasbro has the license, but their projected 2+ years is a good start.

Thanks for posting those links fellas.

I'm passing on most of this stuff. I was hopeful for the Power Core figs, but after seeing them can say they are an easy pass for me. HA Jazz looks sweet. Leader Starscream is a must buy for me.

Meh, I don't mind not having much to buy. More money for me (or other toy lines that is...)

Yeah, I saw this. Beautiful vehicle. I can't seem to find out how much it's going to retail for. I'm guessing between $50-65.

Lots of good stuff coming for Halo. Halo Reach figures!

I'm very happy about the Ghost. The Grunt that comes with it (as pictured) is one from Reach, that is why he has a very different backpack. Bungie folks are calling it the "mini-keg."

Brent hooked me up with some Marvel swag I needed. Good deal on the stuff.

Thanks!
