Star Wars Action Figures / Ewok catapult (with real twigs!)
« on: August 21, 2005, 06:46 PM »
One benefit of pine twigs littering the backyard are the various customs that result!  Here is an Ewok catapult I made from cleaning some twigs and hot-gluing and wrapping them with brown string.

It is non-working, by the way :P

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Props Assortment
« on: August 19, 2005, 11:34 AM »
Chewie, as a fellow diorama-maker, I love your idea!  If Hasbro was less of the huge conglomerate, and more of the collector-minded, we'd probably see these.  Actually, there have been some great ideas from the company over the years, amongst the force-flippin' figures and other crap :P.  Did you see in the custom section of RS the guy who made the pilot and droid collection?  What a great idea!

I am definitely one of the cheap...err, frugal collectors out there, and I'm surprised by the $40 price tag if it's accurate, but I don't feel this as much as I feel the EE Astromech packs (which I'm not buying).  I just know this ship is gonna look great hanging from the ceiling!

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Defender 2005 Wishlists
« on: August 19, 2005, 11:21 AM »
These lists bring a tear to my eye, as I cuddle myself in the corner, gently swaying back and forth :P.  There is one change I would make, though- the ESB list is in sore need of a Echo Base Trooper, either the brown vested indoor guys (similar to Derlin's outfit) or a SA outdoor defense troop.  I'd give up a Lando Smuggler outfit for either of those, personally.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: AT-ST upgrade for 4" scale
« on: August 19, 2005, 10:00 AM »
Thanks guys- my picture taking skills have improved since these pics; the AT-ST is weathered better than that top pic shows, due to the flash.  By the way, although foamcore was used in thickening the legs of the vehicle, the foamies that I used in the head are actually not foamcore, but thin sheets of flexible foam only (without the posterboard component).  These are sheets for .50 or so at most craft places, and are much thinner than foamcore, but still durable enough to hold up and not buckle in the places used.  Note the width of it in the front windows or by the chin gun:

Star Wars Action Figures / AT-ST upgrade for 4" scale
« on: August 18, 2005, 10:12 PM »
I did this several months ago, and wanted to show you guys.  It is the POTF2 vehicle with several changes made including additions of foamies and foamcore pieces.  I have a comparison pic to the regular vehicle to show you the difference.  By the way, the bottom 3 pics are before I added any weathering, hence the clean look.  Enjoy!

Here is an example of how I used the foamies:

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: 12" upgrades I've been busy with...
« on: August 18, 2005, 11:16 AM »
Thanks again, everyone!  Corran, the Jedi Luke outfit (and his head) is the one underneath the vested POTF2 Luke with bone.  All clothing are the original outfits.  What I did alter are the saber hilts: I cut off the large hook loops and replaced them with thin metal rings, spraypainted chrome where needed, and cut apart the Ben and Jedi Luke sabers and replaced the thick parts with a coffee-stirring straw (just as in the FX sabers, the shaft has to be thick enough to accommodate the saber itself, making it less film-accurate).  Oh, and JediJayBird, the Ben cloak is indeed the one that came with the Saga Ben (as is everything else about the figure).

Thanks guys! The Obi and Wampa are the original bodies, but the Jedi Luke uses a Dooku body with the pecs sanded down, and the Biggs and Tat Luke use Dragon bodies (also sanded down the pecs on the Tat Luke).  I did have to hot glue the clothing in some places to have a tighter fit.

Good to see Greg's butt back over here too!  One of the few original JD invitees that didn't stick around as much as we'd hoped...  ;)

Haha!  Thanks for the kind words- I've always loved you guys, it has been mostly time constraints that kept me posting on only one site.  But I swear this time I'll hang around and contribute more!  Good to be back!

Toy Reviews / New Unleashed Vader (pics)
« on: August 17, 2005, 11:16 AM »
I bought this yesterday at WM for $9 (tags on the peg were marked as if this were a regular price, although Unleashed is dead soon, anyway).  Here are some initial thoughts:
- The figure is huge.  It is one of the largest Unleashed, close to Boba Fett scale with the base and all.
- The scene seems to be a combination, because the Vader outfit is the ANH version (cloth over the chest piece), the stairs that he's leaping from are clearly the Emperor's throne room stairs, but the jump reminds me of the Cloud City leap when he nearly lands on Luke's head.
- The pose is a little strange; the saber arm is all the way back, the forward arm (articulated at the shoulder) can be made to reach forward like he's force-choking, and his legs are both bent in a strange dancer pose.
- The details of the outfit are all very good, and the helmet looks spot-on.  The cape is a huge flowing mass though, that reminds me of the Sidious Unleashed.

Overall, not a bad addition to an ending line, but I prefer the more film-accurate Vader Unleashed from the Cloud City shaft.  I'd give it 3.5 to 4 out of 5 ;D

The message on the RS forums page is that it could be down for the next 5 days with the tech guy on vacation!  I'm gonna try to hang out here more anyway (thanks for the reminder, Chewie!) because all of the other great veterans of the hobby are here.  It's true about the newbies: terrible grammar and unreliable as heck. :P

I was born in Italy, and my cajun coon-@ss friend liked to say I was from the planet Daigo-Bah instead of Dagobah, so I adopted it as my username!
