Title: Price range of Blue Snaggletooth?
Post by: Angry Ewok on October 29, 2007, 08:14 PM
Pretty straight forward question for all of you vintage gurus - how much should I expect to pay for a loose and preferably complete Blue Snaggletooth?

Depends on the condition you want Brad, the better the more you pay. Via the completed auctions on the bay, he ranges from $90.-$200. & AFA well nix that.  ::)

The paint on the boots are the main thing. The more wear the boots, the less he would go for as with the head & hands.

IMO, a good complete one would be around $125.-$150. range, others will have a different opinion on the price.

I tend to agree with Dale, for a nice example with good silver on the boots I would expect to pay around $125   some can be had for less some more, I won't even go into the AFA stuff as I think it's nuts to pay for someones opinion expecially on a loose figure. The 2 versions of the toe also seem to be close in price,

I've been trying to find one in above average shape for a few years now.  Not really actively seeking one, but I've yet to find a really solid one for under $100.   :-\

I'm in the market for one as well.... I haven't seen one with great paint sell for less than $150 - so I'm expecting to drop about that when I finally pull the trigger on one.

You could also luck out on a BIN or have a friend do so for you.  I got a beaut for $92 from Dale :-*

Yeah, that was just over 3 yrs ago tho. Still a cherry piece at that price IMHO. Keep looking guys, like Brent mentioned you could luck out on a bin.

I've got my eye on several blue snaggletooths at the moment, and I think I might sneak away with one. Maybe.

In the meantime, tonight I won a Han Solo w/ Carbonite, coin and cardback included... It turned out to be $60-ish with shipping. Should I be embarrassed? I've never been really "up" on the going rate of POTF figures, so I'm not sure if it was the best bargain or not. It was the best thing I found on eBay, or on any website, at least.

I've got two priceguides, one is 17 years old and the other is 5 years old. The older says he's worth $75, and the newer is at $95.

The snaggletooth is listed at $60 in the old, and $190 in the new.

Maybe I should have bought the snaggletooth 17 years ago? I was only 6 years old when the book was published, so I can only imagine $60 then is what $190 is to me now.  ;D

I say ya did good Brad, I have seen him go for $60. plus without the coin.

Price guides eh! Phhhhhhhhhhhht! Only good if they came perforated on a roll if you know what I mean. Prices guides mean ****, absolutely ****. They are always out of wack & never up to date.

The best way to get current prices Brad is to check completed auctions on the bay, that to me & maybe others sets the standard prices of what items go for. Some less, some more depends on things I guess. Set in mind what you want & check out the rates plus & minus & go from there. Always remember, bid what you want to pay & no more. Things will take time, never rush, plenty of stuff on the auction block, be patient.  ;)

Did pretty good at $60 for the one you got.  I'm going to rub this in a bit...back in the first part of they year, I picked up a pretty good Carbonite Han MOC, slightly yellowed bubble and probably C7 back for $95 shipped.  Auction was ending in the middle of the afternoon so there wasn't really anybody to bid against.

As for the original question, Dale nailed it.  I've been passively looking for one lately, but I feel like the price has spiked a bit so I've been laying off.  It may just be my imagination though.
Title: Re: Price range of Blue Snaggletooth?
Post by: Rob on October 31, 2007, 11:36 AM
I managed to score my Han /Carbonite for about $45 shipped - just about the same price I dropped on the A-Wing pilot recently.  Both perfect - with the black gun for the pilot.  I didn't get a coin with Han, but I did with the pilot.

With 4 more figures to go - I'm thinking about selling all my unleashed off and using whatever I can get for those towards Blue Snag and Yak Face if I can do well on them.

I feel pretty good about my Carbonite Han purchase. I was watching a similar auction last night and it ended at $66, and it'll be shipped from Australia.

I'm watching about a half dozen Blue Snaggletooth's right now... Two of them in particular look promising for me, as far as my chances to win. I think $65 is about as high as I'm going to go, though. $65 won't get me a Near Mint, but what I can get with it should tide me over for a long time.

Yeah $60 is definitely good for Han Carb, I think that's what I got mine for.

eBay is also definitely the way to go for finding the current value of almost any collectible. It's always been my thinking (and this is how the price guides use to come up with their numbers) that a collectible's value is always set at what it most recently sold for. Unfortunately for Blue Snaggletooths that seems to be in the range of $100-$150 based on condition nowadays. Good luck!

Ugh.  Nice find, but sucks to have to break a Benjamin for one.  Like you said, I'm sure its nice to have it out of the way.  This is the only vintage fig I'm still missing.   :-\

The Blue Snags was only available via a Sears Catalog Cantina playset.  The set included A plastic cantina base and cardboard backdrop with some play features and four figures: Greedo, Walrusman, Hammerhead and Blue Snaggletooth.  The other three were available as carded figures, as was a shorter red Snaggletooth, but the only way to get the blue one was via this set, which is why it's a little more "rare" than most of the other figs.

In seeing Jayson's newly acquired Blue Snaggletooth, it got me thinking about how things have changed from my observations lately on pricing for this guy. A few years ago a pretty good condition Blue Snags would run between $100-$150, however lately I've seen junkers going for that price. I'm talking about figures where the blue jumpsuit is faded such that the torso and limbs do not match, almost no silver left on the boots, nicks and scratches on the hand and so on. It would seem to get a really quality Blue Snags could cost as much as $200. Am I seeing unique occurences or has there truly been a shift in the value for this guy?

I've been watching these for quite a while as well.  I'm not sure I can vouch for the same level of price discrepancy, but it does feel like the overall prices are a tad higher, despite there being about as many on the secondary market as I recall seeing in years past.  I'd agree that the "average" price has probably gone up $20-30 in the last few years, but that's just my own speculation from the sales I've seen.

I have seen some nice ones on the bay go for a song, some of those auctions end early in the day or when people are at work. At times, sellers ask way to much for the faded/beater ones. Just gotta keep looking & hope you can score a good deal.

Thanks - I'll be interested to get it in hand, though. I've had a number of ebay grabs that don't look nearly as great as the photos do. The seller in this case looks like they don't really know what they have or what they're worth, and they're selling off a bunch more vintage stuff now, mostly in lots, so if you guys need to fill holes, keep an eye on them.

That looks to be a good score there, nice job! I'd personally have reservations on buying a Blue Snaggletooth without seeing it in hand - it sounds like as if you're concerned as well. The picture looks good, but considering it was taken on a scanner bed it could be the lighting. Hopefully it will be as good as the picture makes out to be, cause you've a potentially great score here.

I doesn't look like it was scanned, it's taken against a black cloth like background by the looks of the sellers other auctions.

He looks pretty good, dented toe version.  8)  I still need that one.

I have seen these BS's go for cheap lately & with bin's. This BS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Blue-snaggletooth-rare-w-case_W0QQitemZ180362995279QQihZ008QQcategoryZ348QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) went for a song even tho the torso is faded!

$45?  That's crazy.  The torso color difference would drive me nuts, but the boot and hand paint is really nice.

I have a question on the toe dent.  What's the background on this?  Is either version more rare than the other?  I have a spare toe dented BS for trade if anyone has one without the dent.

Thanks!

IKEA BERTBY all the way, and no, not in my kitchen. Those cabinets are cheap - $100 each, plus I think around $20 for the pair of lights that install really easily. They look great and hold up well - I've had them for almost ten years now. I've got another pair next to those with my modern OT stuff, though it's pretty damn cramped in there these days:

I've got the DETOLFs for my Muppets and NBC stuff:

Also great cabinets, though a bit wobbly sometimes. Sometimes when I open the door, the recoil from the magnet uncatching is enough to cause a bunch of figures to fall over. BERTBY is solid, as it's anchored to the wall, but it's not as deep, of course, so it works well for smaller figures. DETOLF is great for the Muppet playsets - the Muppet Show backstage is literally the exact size of one of the DETOLF shelves. It's like it was made for it.

Patrick do you leave those lights on for any real length of time?  How hot do they run?  I was going to put them in my detolfs but decided against it because I didn't want the wires and I didn't trust the heat/light exposure 5 inches away from the mini-busts.
Title: Re: Price range of Blue Snaggletooth?
Post by: Carpeteria3000 on June 5, 2009, 09:15 PM
I rarely leave them on more than maybe 3-4 hours, and they really don't get hot at all. I put two per each DETOLF, but if you've got them close together, as I believe you do, you can just put one per, if you're really worried about heat buildup. I think IKEA sells LED style lighting as well in the same sort of configuration, and those put out little to no heat at all. It's worth looking into, as it really makes them look fantastic.

Nope, the cheap lighting/reflection. I took the fig outside for a pic in the sunlight, you can see no chip.  ;)

Wow, nice pair Dale.  Those are spectacular.

I hope you mean the Snaggletooths.  :-X    (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/liebe/a038.gif)

Oh, nice. Even better. That's about as good as it gets there. Mind telling the price/source?

I got him of the bay for $190. A bit more than the other one back in 2003 but what the heck.  ;D

Looks like it's worth every dollar, man. Nice grab!

Thanks, I figured the difference in price over the years was well worth it. Snaggetooth is very hard to find with good silver paint let alone the head & hands. These 2 BS's are staying around for quite sometime.  ;D

I have been scoping these out on eBay as well because it is one of the last few remaining figs on my list, outside of the minor variants like smiling Lando, brownhair Luke, etc.

I was really surprised how cheap they are. Most I have seen have gone for less than $100.

I definitely plan on picking one up in the next week or two...

I'm officially in the market for Blue Snaggletooth (and Yak Face, Stormtrooper Luke, and Pop-up Artoo).  If anyone spots an auction or sale for a nice minty one of any of those, please let me know.

If you happen to have ones you're selling that are in top-notch shape with original accessories, I'm interested.

I've been shopping this week... Blue Snaggletooth is now the last one I need... I'm having a hard time finding a really nice one on eBay to bid on.

I'd like to pick up a Brown Haired Farm Boy Luke too at some point, but it's not pressing.

This Luke is missing the saber & has some wear but a good deal IMO.

Yeah, I've seen those... neither will do.  I'd rather pay a little more for one that doesn't have any discoloration or paint damage than buy ones that I'll need to upgrade later.  The Blue Snaggletooth looks good at a glance, but when I look at the close up of the shoes I get scared off.

Check out the Pop Up Artoo (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=10315.msg445373#msg445373) that I just bought and you'll see the sort of condition I'm aim for.  It's really got to be top notch.

The vintage "carded" collector in me wants to find a blue snag in its Kenner baggie for my collection, but the realist in me knows that this is cost probibitive, so I've essentially just passed on this figure until someay a deal that cannot be refused comes along!  ???

That blue snagg is absolutely perfect. It's good to know where my monthly forum use fees go.  ;)

It's been a long time coming, but I finally have my very own Blue Snags.  I paid $110CDN for him, about $100US.  Normally I don't work too hard for 'mint' figures, but this guy is pretty nice, even with a little silver wear on his boots.

My new Snaggletooth has arrived, just took some quick pics, this is the dented toe version.

Here they are side by each, variation hunt is done & they are both pristine!  8)   ;D

Well, I happened upon a minty paint dented toe version blue snag myself at my local comic store and broke down and "snagged" him for $200, which for tis condition seemed fair.  For kicks and giggles, I sent him to AFA and we'll see how he does.

I couldn't help but notice the 2 different gun colors in these photos.  Mine came with a black gun.   Which is correct??

How much do you have to pay for this service?  What all do you get?  Just the grade number or do they give you a more expanded report on what you send them?

For the standard tier service, that took around 2 months' turn-around time, the loose figure grading price was approximately $30.

It will come back  in an acrylic case with the gun taped beside it and with just the one grade noted on a sticker inside the case.

The blue and red snags are the only loose figures that I have ever sent to AFA as they are the iconic major variation known to all.  Ironicaly, the 85 blue snag got a better grade than the 80 red snag!
