Title: Shatner: Star Trek vs. Star Wars
Post by: Brian on September 28, 2011, 09:35 AM
I wasn't sure where to post this, so if it belongs somewhere other than its own thread I'm sorry.  Just saw this video this morning, with William Shatner comparing Star Trek and Star Wars:

Well, Shatner has spoken. We can all pack up and go home now.

Like the guy who owns the blog, I can't really disagree with Shatner, but I think he's a little bit biased.

I guess I fall into the category of I like them both, quite a bit, but prefer Star Wars.  They each have their own unique traits.

Can't really take The Shat seriously when he's wearing an Affliction shirt

Sort of narrow arguments on Shatner's part...  I'm assuming he was kidding around for the most part since, well, I don't know Shatner for being a real serious guy unless it's arguing with George Takei.

I love TNG, DS9, and JJ Abrams reboot.  Didn't like TOS, but did like some of the TOS movies.  Voyager I was sort of into, but never like TNG and DS9...  Enterprise was just utter **** IMO.  They should've instead focused on what works...  Warin' and whorin', but never borin'.  I'd have watched a post-dominion "military" style Trek dealing with the conflicts that arise, or a more involved "Borg War" Trek series...  Basically more of TNG or DS9, and more Borging it up.

Can't say I agree with Shatner, regardless of his intent, that SW was derived from ST.  I don't even see real influence there.  I think Lucas was kind of beyond that stuff at that point in his life.

Also can't say I agree on the "humanity" argument, and that it was lacking in SW...  It's there, it's less blunt since it's not necessary to cram it into a TV episode's time-frame for one storyline.

But hey, it's Shatner...  And speaking of Shatner, I believe Betty White just Shat in her pants!

And Carrie Fisher/Princess Leia's response:

So...they are both insane.
