One other pair I forgot to mention, Super Powers Batman and Robin. Really enjoyed that line as well.

Watto's Junk Yard / Who Were Your “Buzz and Woody”?
« on: November 28, 2020, 05:42 PM »
I have to credit our very own Scott (OCB), who posted in a thread years ago that the vintage Hoth Han Solo and Bespin Luke Skywalker (if I an remembering correctly) were his own “Buzz and Woody”, meaning the toys that he took with him everywhere. That always stuck with me as an excellent example of what many of us feel about certain toys growing up. Were there any specific go-to figures for you growing up?

For me, it was probably a few examples. In Star Wars it was definitely my Chewbacca, Endor Han Solo, and Jedi Luke Skywalker. Any combination of 2-3 of these were always in an adventure, and were most definitely my most played with SW figures.

Other examples: MEGO Spider-Man. My only MEGO figure (their heyday was slightly before my time), but the first action figure I remember, and was with me constantly. I remember being so bummed when one of his legs broke at the knee, and we super glued it, but with the cloth costume covered it so you really couldn’t tell. Sadly, it is one of the few childhood toys that I just can’t find now. Bums me out.

I also had many an adventure with 1985 Snake Eyes and 1983 Duke from GI Joe. Duke was my very first Joe, and that Snake Eyes is the figure I remember searching for the most in my childhood. Loved that figure so much.

Outside of action figures I’d have to mention a small plush Snoopy that I drug around a lot as a kiddo, always had a spot of Snoopy and the Peanuts world.

Joe Defender / Re: G.I. Joe Retro Line
« on: November 21, 2020, 05:02 PM »
Three more “retro” figures announced Friday: Lady Jaye, Duke (screaming head), and Cobra Commander. They all look fine and all, and I understand getting the big guns out there....but it is starting to feel like a re-release of 25th anniversary in a lot of ways. At least the figures seem to have some improvements overall, although I don’t care for Duke’s extreme expression (they were probably going for the Sunbow toon “Yo Joe!” opening). I am thankful for any other vehicles they may reissue though, so many I wanted as a kid. Trying to keep current with these though. Only 3 at a time so far, but still have never seen one at our WM.

Joe Defender / Re: GI Joe: Classified 6" Figure Line

Anyone here collecting this line? I am, but things have been so slow/hard to find it hardly feels like it. I’ve been fortunate to stay current with everything through online orders and a little bit of luck with exclusives, but honestly I don’t think our Targets or Wal-Marts currently have any of the figures in stock at all.

That being said, Flint and Lady Jaye announced Friday, and I think they both look pretty great. They are very similar to their “classic” looks, which I think is what everyone wants pretty much, just updated a bit here and there. Last I saw they weren’t expected until closer to summer 2021, so it looks like a continued slower pace for the line. I believe the Zartan/Cobra Trooper are due in spring. I’m sure the movie postponement changed things up as well.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Funko POP!
« on: November 1, 2020, 09:16 AM »
Can’t believe I never replied to this. I’ve gone through phases with Funko POPs over the years. At first I just picked up some for our daughter, then a couple for myself, then it started snowballing on both accounts and got out of hand (they make so many!). We have since gone through the great purge and sold off the vast majority of them. These days it is way more selective. I have a handful of Star Wars ones, of course, but purchase more outside of that these days.

After waddling things down,I’ve decided to focus on the various Spider-Man POPs (favorite all time character), and if there is anything special that catches the eye. The most recent ones I’ve gotten are the He-Man on Battle Cat, the Mando/Child walking together, and Michael Jordan. I do kind of like the ones based on cartoons I grew up with such as the already mentioned He-Man, and I also have the GI Joe Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. The upcoming Transformers POPs are tempting for the same reason.

I received Man E Faces, Trap Jaw, and Orko today from an online order, looking forward to digging into those. My order for Scareglow unfortunately was cancelled (from both WalMart and Amazon), so that is kind of a bummer. Excited for the other three though!

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2021 TVC Wave 1
« on: October 26, 2020, 12:59 PM »
Wow, these both look outstanding. I’ll admit that due to the slow drip of news about the TVC line I sometimes almost put it on the backburner. Then we get some nice all new reveals like this and all the love of why I started collecting in the first place comes rushing back. Hope this is just the beginning!

It reminds me once again how cool an entire Mandalorian-focused line would be. Imagine all these main/supporting characters alongside figures of oddball aliens and bounty hunters we’ve seen along the way. A couple beasts, vehicles, and we are rolling.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Do You Collect/Display Vehicles?
« on: October 23, 2020, 05:51 PM »
All of my stuff is packed away, save the BMF. I also collect GI Joe and MOTU, so I have a ton of vehicles. Since space is kind of a problem, something like the Barge or Razor Crest are out of the question. I’ll say that, then buy the new Castle Grayskull next year... ::)

Same problem here, again I need to be better about limiting things or just choosing favorites to have out. Like with LEGO type stuff, I have most of the OT vehicles, not to mention things from Marvel, LOTR, etc. so, I have three LEGOs on display: the Falcon, Bag End from LOTR, and the Mega Constructs Castle Grayskull.

LEGO / LEGO Sesame Street
« on: October 23, 2020, 01:32 PM »
Has anyone seen this recently announced LEGO Sesame Street set? It is a LEGO Ideas set, and looks to be over 1300 pieces with figures of Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Elmo, Oscar, and Cookie Monster. I have admit I’ve really slowed on LEGO purchases this year due to space and our daughter losing interest a bit, but am for some reason drawn to this. Kinda neat. Looks like release is Nov 1.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Shipping Experiences?
« on: October 23, 2020, 01:26 PM »
I had an....interesting shipping experience this week. Not Star Wars related, but still relevant I think. Months ago I had preordered the Transformers G1 Blaster figure. I had always wanted one as a kid, and thought this was a good chance to grab one. I had since found it at retail (and thought I had cancelled the preordered one, but with all the WM delays/cancellations it is hard to keep it all straight). Anyways, on Tuesday night I go to let our dogs out and there is a Wal-Mart bag hanging on our doorknob. I thought it was strange, but I took a look and low and behold it is Blaster. Beat up box, just tossed in a Wal-Mart bag. They slapped the shipping sticker on the side of the bag and that was that, certainly never had a delivery like that. Now I have a Blaster I don’t necessarily need, and I’ll have to see if I can return it. Aside from that sticker, there was no shipping insert or anything typically used for returns. Strange stuff.

Sounds like many of you are in the same boat. I’ve got all my prequel (and sequel) ships packed away, and have for awhile. From time to time I think I should just sell them since they don’t see the light of day, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I have basically all my OT ships (one of each type) on display shelves in a closet. I’ve always wanted to figure out a more highlighted display for the BMF Falcon (and now things like the barge and Razor Crest), but haven’t quite figured that out yet. Honestly, once the Crest gets here, I really don’t have a place for it. Things are going to have to change again. It may eventually get to the point that it did with LEGO, where I just display a few larger favorites.

The Vintage Collection / Do You Collect/Display Vehicles?
« on: October 19, 2020, 06:03 PM »
This could really cover any of the 3 3/4” lines, but most currently with TVC. Also timely with the Razor Crest campaign. Anyways, do you collect vehicles? From the beginning I have pretty much collected the majority of vehicles, and over the years it scaled back to OT era stuff only (recently adding in the Mandalorian stuff). Now I focus only on TVC releases (although at this point that is all there is anyways), and just became a Crest backer last week as well. I do love them, but they sure do take up a lot of space too. I know I’ve seen a number of people who just stuck to the figures over the years due to that reason. I was just wondering how many of you here collect and/or display the Star Wars vehicles?

Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers
« on: October 16, 2020, 10:30 PM »
Ok, been awhile, and there has been some neat stuff released in the meantime....but this new wave(s) of the Studio Series line focused on the ‘86 animation looks pretty rad. I know I thought I was winding down my Transformers buying, but I find myself wanting that new Grimlock....and Hot Rod....and Jazz.....and Kup......

On a somewhat unrelated note, I found some of the R.E.D. figures at our local WM. They had Megatron and Soundwave, snagged the Soundwave (these are the Marvel Legends-esque, non transforming Transformers). I like it, but it just seems smaller than I thought, definitely couldn’t just put these in with your Black Series, or Joe Classifieds, or Marvel Legends. He is shorter than all three. As a collection/display on their own they might look pretty nifty though. Remind me in a way of super sized versions of the Super 7 reaction Transformers.

Looks like they officially unveiled Castle Grayskull this morning. Currently up for preorder at Wal-Mart (not sure if it is WM exclusive) for $75. Looks nearly identical to the vintage one honestly, but fits right in with the overall feel of this line. I’ve always regretted not ordering the Classics Grayskull when it was available (although I still don’t know where I’d put it), so I went ahead and preordered this one. I still have my vintage one from when I was a kid, but it could use a few small repairs and TLC. It will be nice to get a shiny new one...plus, that packaging art is outstanding! (Although the typo that I’m assuming should say “fortress” and not “fortess” is bothering me.)

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2020: What Are You Collecting?
« on: September 26, 2020, 11:27 PM »
I know I bump this a lot, but I like to keep a little tab on myself as well.  :) So after all the goodies shown at PulseCon (and elsewhere), what is everyone looking at picking up going forward? I keep planning on really narrowing things down, but it has been such a golden time for fans/collectors of 80s properties. Here we go:

Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series. I’ve been getting most from both, but really hoping to lean more towards OT (and Mando), we’ll see. Lots of great stuff. Hoping to be able to back the Razor Crest too.

Marvel Legends, and maybe this new retro line. I’ve been pretty in on these too, but it’s.....a lot. Kind of gravitate towards this classic 70s/80s looks when they do them, and I do have an MCU display as well.

GI Joe Classified. Really enjoy this line, but it is difficult to collect right now with exclusives/rarity. I’ve done ok so far, and will probably continue for anything that is somewhat similar to the characters/toys I grew up with. The retro stuff is neat, but WM exclusives so a pain

Masters of the Universe Origins. Love it. Fairly inexpensive, not terrible to keep up with outside of the current WM exclusivity.

Super 7 Ultimates Putting this as a single category, but really covers TMNT and Thundercats. Got the first waves of each in the past month and I really like them. The Turtles in particular are outstanding. The down side is price, but it is nice just being able to put your order in and know you’ll get them when they are ready to ship.

I also grab the odd Transformer here or there, but that looks to be winding down a bit going forward (Beast Wars was neat and all, but a little past my main time of interest). Looking at the list, it is too many lines...too much stuff. I know there will always be some Star Wars and Marvel coming in, after that I’ll have to budget things and see.  Probably try to keep up with Origins, and the TMNT Ultimates for now. Thundercats I’d like to complete the main team. Joes is going to be pick and choose, and overall just being more selective.

One wildcard thing I’d like to see in 2021: With the combo of the Lucasfilm Anniversary and the 40th of Raiders of the Lost Ark, a nice Black Series type, photo real Indiana Jones.
