Downed Gunship Diorama:
I made this out of foamcore, it's close enough to 1:1 scale, but I took a lot of liberties and it doesn't have as much detail as the real gunship.

First of all, Gregorbian, welcome! Great to have you here. Actually, it's been quite a week for newbies; it's exciting seeing more people join the site.

Let me see...I'll try to go figure by figure...

COMMANDER CODY

Good paint and weathering; the visor is one of the best I've seen on this custom. The only constructive criticism I have here is that his shoulder comm could be a little better, and he's missing the rank badge on his chest, and the armband on his right arm. I know reference on Cody has been spotty though, so you may not have even seen those.

COMMANDER BLY

Very nice, and very brave of you to do Bly "clean." This looks really good, the yellow is perfect, I think (what brand/color did you use?) with good clean lines for the most part. The yellow on the chest is a little crooked, though...I'd clean it up with an exacto. Then this one will be perfect.

COMMANDER GORB

Needs a removable helmet with your head underneath. 'Nuff said.  ;)

COMMANDER GORB's SQUAD

Very nice, and again, very brave of you to do them clean. These look flawless...I especially like the one that looks like a communications officer.

12' CLONE TROOPER

Very nice paint job. Looks flawless.

SA TARFUL

I wish the pics from this point on were a little less blurry; but the custom is a nice use of the Preview Wookiee Warrior. I wouldn't make it Tarful though...for one, the He-Man bandolier isn't accurate...you might consider making this a new Wook and just adding the Wookiee Warriors lower legs to Hasbro's Tarful. A little boiling and they pop right in. A good custom, though.

MAGNA DROID WITH ARTICULATED KNEES

Very nice. Why Hasbro didn't give this figure better articulation is beyond me. I've been planning on doing this one myself.

GAND JEDI

Simple, but effective. The Bust-ups are great for spare parts, aren't they? Did you retain the wrist articulation when you added the Zuckuss hands?

ARC COmmander

Another simple but effective custom. Can't wait to see it with the black kama. Are you going to paint the trim red like on the cartoon?

GENERAL KENOBI IN CLONE ARMOR

Very nice. I can't wait to do one of these myself. Did you retain the head articulation, or if it glued in place? Either way, it looks great. Didn't Obi-Wan have the longer hair (ala AOTC) when he wore this armor, though?

Overall, a very nice group of customs. Can't wait to see more!

-DD

I can't say how happy that I am to see you here Greg!

I really like what you did to the Magna Guard.  You used Stikfas parts to add articulation, correct?  Got a tutorial or anything?

The downed Gunship is such a great idea.  I seem to remember someone making a downed AT-TE too.  Really great thinking and creative.

Your Obi Wan also looks perfect.  What material did you use for his robes?

Very nice work, Greg - and welcome to JediDefender! I really like Commander Cody and especially Commander Gorb and his squad.

Thanks for the welcome and the comments!  ;D
I really appreciate the constructive criticisms Darth Delicious, thanks for those!
For Commander Cody - I didn't notice that armband or the rank badge until you mentioned it, so I guess I have to touch up the figure a bit.  I was going to sand down the shoulder antennae to make it more accurate, but so far I haven't found a really good reference pic other than what other people have done on eBay and such.

I will definitely clean up the Commander Bly chest paint, I forgot about until you mentioned it :-[

For the paints, I use Games Workshop brand paint (www.gamesworkshop.com).  These guys make the LOTR miniatures game as well as Warhammer miniatures.  Their paints are excellent quality and mix very well.  To get Commander Bly's paints, I mixed some Sunburst Yellow with a touch of Blood Red.  It seemed to be the closest that I could match it to the reference pics.

I am going to retake a lot of my customs pics because most of them were taken with a cheap digital camera that I got for free (with digital cameras, free = garbage).  I made the Tarfful out of pure rage because I hated that he didn't have the Sneak Preview Wookie Warrior level of articulation.  I just threw the He-Man armor on so he wasn't "naked"  :P

The General Grievous Bodyguard's knees were indeed Stikfas ball-joints.  I used the upper-arm piece and it was fairly simple.  I cut out the knee portions of the figure, took the upper-arm stikfas piece and cut it in half.  Then I sanded it down with my dremel until it looked like it would look good for a knee.  Then I glued the pieces in place and painted.
I'm going to try the Stikfas ball-joint technique to make a better-articulated General Grievous (I saw one on eBay a few weeks ago that looked really good).

The Obi-Wan in Clone Armor retained his head articulation (I cut off the neck peg and replaced it with a small screw that I glued in Obi-Wan's head).  If you're going to make one, I recommend using a bootleg ep. II Clonetrooper helmet (I like these helmets because they're a little bigger than the normal Clone Trooper helmets and I think they are a little more accurate in terms of proportions)...

I guess you can tell that I like to keep my clones "clean"  ;)

Again, thanks for your comments and warm welcome!

I saw all these at TheJawa a week or so ago and they look great! I love the green squad of clones and the crashed gunship is pretty cool too! The magna guard is a vast improvment, it was a good figure to start with but it really needed some more articulation. I like the clean Bly, but as DD said the line could be straighted a bit and it'd be perfect. I like the Obi-Wan a-lot, though I would have used a different helmet, I have never liked the bootleg helmet, maybe you could use the deluxe AOTC clone helmet?

Anyways very nice work, keep it up! I look forward to more of your stuff!
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs

Thanks for all of your comments  ;D
I actually liked the bootleg Clone helmets, I really like that they're just a bit bigger than the normal clone helmets so it looks a little more "natural" in my opinion.  I guess using the deluxe clone helmet would have saved me a little time though   ;)
As for the dead clone pilot ... good riddance!  I am kinda disappointed in the new clone pilots, so I had no problems "killing" him for my dio.  If you still need one, I have an extra, send me a PM.
Here is what I plan to work on this week, although I probably will only get to do one or two....

1) Saesee Tinn in Clone Armor (I was planning on making one, but then I saw Darth Delicious' version and I knew that I had to make one) - Are there any reference pics for this guy in his CW Armor (especially the mask)?
2) Clone Trooper w/Flame Thrower - Been thinking about making this guy for a while, I hope I have time to get to him.
3) Fix up my current ARC Trooper by repainting his kama the proper colors
4) Paint my super-duper battle droids  :P (I have several sets of Xevoz robots that look like some kind of ultra-battle droids if you use the right parts, I just need to give them a new paint job)
5) I bought a Hulk Classics Mecha-Hulk for $5 at KB Toys so I figured I can make some sort of Alpha Battle Droid or something to lead my ultra-battle droids into battle....maybe my first attempt at a photonovel? ;)

Hopefully I'll have time to get to all of these guys this week.  I also wante to make some Pulp Fiction Marvel Legends figures using the Prof. X body (saw this on eBay and it looked cool) ...Too...many...ideas

Thanks Crazy About Clones  ;D
I sidetracked myself a bit with my Saesee Tinn in CW Armor so I don't know when I'll get to making the figures/scenes that I will need to do a photonovel, but I'll keep everybody posted.  ;)
Here's an update on my custom Saesee Tinn....
I tried coating his head in baby powder and then sculpting on a helmet using Sculpey clay, but I couldn't work with it and it kept falling off and would not retain the proper shape around his head.  Then I took a dollar store army figure's helmet and cut it up so that it would go over Saesee's head and around his horns, and that turned out pretty well.  I covered it in Sculpey and sculpted the face plate thing on, but now it looks huge.   ::)  I think I'll paint it up just to see what it looks like, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to start all over. :'( ...
I might just have to buy another Saesee Tinn (while he's on sale  ;)) and sculpt a permanent helmet on that head and have interchangeable heads....

Great customs overall Gregorbian...  But I have to say that the uniform design of your whole squad you did up was pretty great.  Looked store-bought actually.

I especially liked that you seemed to include a communications dude in there too.  A must!  Very nice...

Clones are really the inspiration a lot have taken to get back into customizing or start up for the first time.  It's great seeing lots of them out there on all different skill levels.  Some really good paintjobs are popping up though that Hasbro couldn't rival even.

Thanks Jesse James!
I'm working on a Shocktrooper (I'm probably the last guy to tackle this one) and a V-Wing Pilot right now, hope you guys like when I finish them up  ;D

Does anybody know how to separate the belt from the #41 SA Clone Trooper?  Can I just cut a notch in it and pull it off?

Yeah, just cut a notch in the back and it comes right off.

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE, Thanks!
Did anybody see that custom on FWOOSH.net or whatever that site is?  the guy cut the lower abdomen off of the #41 SA Clone Trooper and replaced it with the lower abdomen/legs of the AT-TE Gunner...I might have to try this.  (I hope I don't mess up, that'd be a waste of 2 good figures) ;)
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs
Post by: Jesse James on May 20, 2005, 03:29 AM
Ah, for a truly SA Clone.  ;)

Soudns interesting but I didn't see it...  A semi-logical step, though I too would worry about ruining the Clones.  The Commanders JUST started to show up here to where I can actually luck into one or two, so the SA Clones are a ways off yet it seems.  :(
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs
Post by: Gregorbian on May 20, 2005, 11:44 AM
Well, I tried it out.
I cut off the belt from the SA Clone and then I cut his waist just below where it connects to the belt.  This was very hard as his lower abdomen was made from the hard type of plastic that doesn't soften very much when submerged into hot water.  (I broke into a sweat while cutting this guy in half  :P).  The AT-TE Gunner was easier because his plastic softened up considerably after being submerged in hot water.
Then I had to clean up the pieces and make sure that they rested flat.  I used 2 part putty to connect the hips because this usually (hopefully) holds better than super glue.  I also did a head/neck swap so now my SA Clone Trooper has a removable helmet!  He's looking pretty good, I just have to paint him up a bit (I think I'll paint him in my green color scheme).

One interesting thing ... the clones have different whites.  The AT-TE Gunner has a slight off-white tint to his armor (as does the EE ep. II SA Clone Trooper) and the #6 and #41 Clones have a brighter white color to them.  I assume this is because they used different plastics to make them (the AT-TE and EE ep. II Clone Troopers feel like they're made from a softer plastic than the #6 and #41 clones).   ???

Here are a few more customs that I made before ROTS came out.  Today was the first chance that I had to take pics.  Let me know what you guys think!

Clone Trooper - Heavy Weapons Specialist:
He is made from an AT-TE Tank Gunner (upper torso, arms) and a #41 SA Clone Trooper (lower torso, legs, head, neck-ball-joint).   His "backpack" is from the torso of a CORPS! figure.

Clone Trooper - Heavy Weapons Specialist - no heavy weapon  :'(
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/Gregorbian/GorbCloneHeavyWeapons5.jpg)

SSA (Super-Super-Articulated) Clone Trooper:
I got the recipe from a guy on FWOOSH.net forums (I'm not a member so I don't know the guy's name, but he should get the credit for this recipe).  I used an AT-TE Tank Gunner (lower torso, legs, head, neck, helmet) and a #41 SA Clone Trooper (upper torso, arms).

Here is my attempt at the Saesee Tinn in Clone Wars Armor:
I tried making his mask, but it turned out looking like crap so he will go helmet-less.  I left his armor white (it looks light grey in the ref. pic that Darth Delicious gave me) because A) I'm lazy and B) I'm really lazy.

Here are a couple of Shocktroopers:
I figured, everybody else on earth has made these guys so I might as well hop on the ol' bandwagon  ;)

V-Wing Pilot:
I used the Attactix figure as a reference
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/Gregorbian/VWingPilot.jpg)

As always, let me know what you guys think!

Those are some great custom clones!

The heavy weapons specialist is way cool...I'd recommend crafting him a more "Star Wars" looking weapon though. Great paint job, and I love the AT-TE helmet being utilized as part of this. There were Heavy Weapons clones in the Ep. III game and they had those as well...nice touch.

The breakdancing shot of your truly "SA" clone is my favorite of the bunch. Well done!

Saesee Tinn looks great. I notice you sliced off his horn. Although he had both horns when he appeared on the cartoon in this armor, I think it works as a custom from a previous battle, especially since you left the armor white. Good job!

The shocktroopers look wonderful...I know from experience that these can be a pain to paint. The one on the right needs a little exacto attention to his right arm's upper stripe to bring it's thickness in line with the others, but man, thse came out great!

I like the V-Wing troop. Any sculpting on this? It looks like there may have been a little done to the helmet.

All in all, great additions to your thread!

I've been meaning to check out the Ep. III game, now I have more of a reason!  The bazooka is from one of those Elite Force figures from TRU, I was thinking about repainting (possibly to match the colors from the Clone Wars Animated Series).  Do you think I should do anything more than a repaint?

Thanks, I liked how the CW Saesee was missing most of one of his horns, so I thought I would make him at a point where it hadn't completely grown back  ;)

Yeah, the small details were a little difficult, luckily I was using an "extra fine detail" brush ;)  Good point about the stripe on the right clone's arm, I'll get right on that!

I added a little bit of putty to the helmet to get rid of the vertical slit and to make the horizontal slit a little more like how it was in the picture of the Attactix fig.
Thanks again for your comments DD! ;D

Oh man, wonderful stuff!  We've kinda had Clone overload lately, but this is great - I especially love the V-Wing pilot.  Awesome... something I really wish we had seen on screen, and I hope they make it into a figure.

The heavy weapons Clone is out of this world - truly awesome.

Like the Saesae Tiin a lot too - this was a great update.

Thanks CHEWIE!  I'm kind of surprised that everybody likes the Clone - Heavy Weapons guy, he was just made because I had some extra parts left over after making my SSA Clone Trooper :P  The AT-TE Tank Gunner's arms are perfectly positioned for holding the bazooka, which means that I'll have to take back some of my "crappy-arm-articulation" bashing that I've laid on the AT-TE Tank Gunner.  :-[

I hadn't see those clones yet, and I really like that heavy weapons guy. It's the kind fo thign that would have been cool in the movie. Especially as a character assaulting the Jedi Temple. That would have been great to see... if only.

I can't recall seeing the V-Wing pilot anywhere but attacktix.. hell, I don't even recall seeing a V-Wing in the movie.. but in regards to him, your custom is well done, considring the shortness of material on him.

Wow, that was quick!!!   I love it!  Looks kicka@@!

I think these guys in the movie looked a little grimy, so maybe a touch of dry brush on him would really make him look even better.  Not that it needs it, I'm just a dry brushing freak.   ;)

Thanks everybody!  Glad you like 'em ;D
I think I'll make another, but I'll have to use the regular Clone Commander's skirt because I don't want to sacrifice a CW ARC Trooper... I'll have to get rid of his holsters, but that shouldn't be too hard to hide.

Haha, I was a little sick last week so I could only touch up some of my clones.  I repainted the kamas on my ARC Trooper and Clone Commander Gorb figures and I tweaked my Commander Cody a bit.  However, I picked up a couple #41 SA Clones for customs so my next planned customs are a Clone Sniper and a Clone Flamethrower guy.  I plan on getting them done this week.
Thanks for thinking of me!  :)

Great Job! Some awesome troopers right there. As for the flame thrower guy, i think giving him a holster for a pistol on his theigh(i probablly spelled that wrong, i mean the part of your leg above your knee) or at his ankle, also i sure your already doing this, but have like some cord or something attached from the backpack to the gauntlet. Also maybe look into adding some extra armor someplace on his body in case of any "misfires" ;D  Great Job! 8)

Thanks for the comments, I was thinking about adding a holser but I like your idea of more armor.  I was thinking about doing something to his mask (some sort of filter or something) - any ideas?

Cody is looking good, and the Flamethrower troop is coming along nicely.  My favorite is the Sniper though.  Are you planning on adding green trim to his Kama like the other Gorb squad clones?

As always, nice work G!

Cody is missing another antena on his sholder, and extended sholder pads. Nice work though, better than anyone I can make. :)

I don't think I am going to add green trim to the Clone Sniper's skirt because it's made from a cut-up shower curtain, so I'm not sure how I would be able to get the paint to stay on.  I am going to cut it up a bit though so it looks a little better.

Cody has another antenna on his shoulder? Oh man!  Just when I thought I had the antennae finished up... ::)  Thanks for the heads up though, I'll have to check some reference pics.

I'm going to try my hand at a SA Biker Scout (I saw somebody use a Microman body w/Biker Scout parts, so I want to see if I can do that too).  Ahhh, first I have to finish my Cody and Flame Thrower Clone... It never ends  ;D
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs

All right, finally, my reviews...

JETPACK CLONE

VEry nice, what makes this one, I think, is a fantastic paint job on the jet pack. Great colors that blend together well, yet still looks realistic and like an actual paint scheme from Star Wars.

ARC TROOPER

Another somewhat simple, but effective custom. The Commander Thire body matched up with the paintjob on the helmet quite nicely, and I like the little details you added to the helmet design. Is that an emblem on the left side of the helmet? And what of?

COMMANDER GORB

Very effective, makes me increase my desire to have a Green Commander in my OWN ranks. The new Kama does wonders for this guy; really makes him pop visually.  I'd suggest adding one design detail to make him stand out from Thire, though...some piece of equipment, or an ankle holster or something. Just to vary him up.

CLONE SNIPER

My favorite of the bunch. The kama looks good, and the gun design is a lot of fun. There's a lot of different elements working together here to make this a great Clone custom. The paint scheme is clearly Gorb's unit, but the AT-TE Gunner pauldron makes you realize this guy has a specilization. The binocs are great and make sense for what he does; glad you left them on. I also like how you brought in design elements from other clone units (ala the Coruscant Shocktrooper leg stripes.) Unique, and believable.

COMMANDER CODY

Looking pretty authentic so far...I'll reserve judgement until he's finished.

FLAMETHROWER CLONE

Great concept, and I like the Deluxe Jango gauntlet. I'd suggest running a length of hose from the gauntlet to the backpack, and maybe get a snap in flame, like the one that comes with the Dreadnok Torch figure, to add to the gauntlet. I'd also do something different with the helmet...maybe mix a little silver and green and paint the T-Visor, like it's filtered to protect his eyes from the bright glare of the flame.

All in all, another great addition to your ranks! Keep 'em comin'!

-DD

I really like the idea for the Flame Clone Trooper, I will definitely adjust his visor  8)
There is no emblem on the ARC Trooper, although that would be pretty cool too.  It's just a blast-mark  ;)
I think an ankle holster for Commander Gorb would look very cool, great idea!

Thanks for your comments, they were very helpful as always!  ;D

I've gotten behind on my comments/reviews - sorry!

JET PACK CLONE - Totally awesome paint job, makes me want to go play some more Battlefront... I hope when I finally make one that it looks half this good.

RED ARC - Looks very cool... I am a little confused on his helmet thought.  It looks great, but it seems his visor area is thinner than normal... or is it just me?

GORB - Wonderful... I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

SNIPER - Wow... what can I say?  This is truly a work of art... I love the gun too!

CODY - Man, you guys just keep getting better on this stuff... I would have a lot or trouble on this one.  Great job!

CLONE FLAMETHROWER - Awesome look to him so far, I can't wait to see the final result!

Thanks for the comments CHEWIE!  I love the feedback that I get here, it's very helpful!  ;D

I used the Ep. II Bootleg Clone Trooper for my ARC Trooper custom because I liked how it was slightly larger than the normal SA Clone Trooper helmet (Also, my EE Clones hadn't come in yet).  I kind of like that it's slightly different than the regular clone helmet, but I guess to some people it looks weird. :-\

I didn't mean that it looked weird, just different.  To be honest, I kinda like it more.  In the comics their helmets always seem much larger than a Clone helmet, so this works out very, very well.   :)

Glad to see JD.com back up and running!  I missed this place  :P

Here are a few more customs that I finished in the past couple of days:
General Grievous w/ball-jointed elbows:

SA Scout Trooper (made with a MicroMan body and a vintage Scout):

I added Stikfas ball-joints to the elbows of General Grievous, and then I repainted him.  I should probably lighten up the colors on Grievous, but I wanted to make him look really weathered.  I think I went a bit too "rotting bone"  ;)
For the Scout Trooper, I hollowed out the armor pieces and glued them onto the Microman body.  Pretty easy, but took a lot of time.  Still it was really fun ;D
Lemme know what you think!

Thanks Dimetrodon.  I'm thinking of repainting Grievous, but I'm not sure what color.  I ended up making my own color scheme because, as you can see, Hasbro wasn't sure what color he was  :P .  I guess I'll try doing a light gray dry brush on him and see how that turns out.

actually i think the most accurate color of Grevious is the one on the left in that pic of all three of them.  I remember in the movie his "armor" was more of a bone color.  Great Work!

P.S. How's the flame trooper coming along?

P.S. How's the flame trooper coming along?

It's coming along, I got a little distracted with these Microman Star Wars customs  :P but I bought some sort of tubing (for bead work or something) that I can use as a hose to attach his flame gauntlet to his backpack.  I think once I attach it I'll just need to paint him up.

What did you use to make the ball joints for Grievous's elbows?
I used Stikfas parts.  For the Grievous I used the upper arm of a Stikfas (every Stikfas Action Figure Kit comes with extras of these) that I cut in half.  You have to sand them down a bit before they fit properly though.  It's not that hard though.

Here's a Microman Boba Fett figure that I made from a Microman figure (obviously) and a Boba Fett Bust-Ups.  I repainted him to a color scheme that I liked.  Unfortuantely the brown color bled through his cape so I don't really like how it turned out, but other than that I like this guy.  These customs are a lot of fun!  8)

Thanks CHEWIE.  I'm kinda cheating because these Microman figures are so highly articulated; I'm basically just putting armor on them and painting them. ;)
I try to make my customs as durable as possible.  I tend to "pose my figures excessively" (read: play :P) so they are pretty sturdy.  You can pop the various joints off, but, like Stikfas, they are easy to reattach and do not loosen up.

Here are some customs that I've made in the past few days.  I made the requisite SA Commander Bacara (which took a surprisingly high amount of reworking) and used his body to get the armor pieces for a dead (or Zombie) clone.  There's also a Lt. for my custom squad (Lt. Gamma).

Nice work on the Bacara, he looks great. I love his trooper too, your's is my favorite that I've seen so far. Gamma looks good too, are we going to see a Gorb and Co. Photonovel sometime sone? :)

That dead clone is gruesome! I love it! I think he'd look cooler if he had a helmet, either broken pieces embeded in his head or a whole helmet on the ground. He looks like he was burned or was hit by a chemical weapon, if he was burned, I'd dirty the armor a bit. Or I guess he could be a long dead clone depending on the time you see him, in which case he is fine as is. I really like this one, there doesn't seem to be enough dead people customized. :)

Love the dead Clone!  Excellent slicing and dicing of the armor to fit on him... I almost think he should be like a "fried" Clone or something... I would blacken up the figure itself some, and make some burn marks on the armor.

I have a SA Bacara too now, will post pics soon I hope.

Interesting, when I was making the dead clone, I just assumed that he had been a long dead clone or something like that.  I was going to make a helmet, but I kinda liked the rotting head  ;).  A partial helmet would be cool though...
I think you guys are right though, a little dirtier armor would make him look better ... and more gruesome  :P

Gregorbian, one other thing you might want to consider would be some of the black fiber material they wear under the armor... but I don't know how you'd do that.  Maybe just painting it directly onto the skin?  If he was rotting, his flesh might "absorb" the material some.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that a bit, but I think that was when I decided that he was a long dead clone and the body suit had rotted away.  I think when I touch him up a bit I'll add some sort of black body suit in parts.

One thing i want to try just to see if it works is graphite spray . It has a chunky grey and black look... but it is full of air so I dont no how it would react to a clear coat. Anyone ever tried that ?

It's pretty easy, but I burn the hell out of my fingers.  It's worth it though ;)
I've never used that graphite spray CuDa, although I've seen it in the craft store.  I think it might be a little too big for use on a custom figure.  That stuff would look great on a diorama though.  Thanks for the suggestion though ;D

I thought it might be to bulky also . But im wondering if spayed on what ever the item may be then do the clear coat almost right after that if it would shrink it down. Due to the graphite being hit with the mist of clearcoat and the bubbles being popped in the graphite. hmmmm  I might have to test it out .

Haha, alrighty...
I picked up an extra Batgirl Microman figure, so I might try making an SA Slave Leia  ;)
I have a couple droids that I want to make (a couple astromechs and a vintage Death Star Droid repaint).  There are a couple Sneak Preview Wookie Warriors that I picked up at KB that I am going to make into new Wookie Warriors.
Ummm, as far as clones, I'm not really sure what's in store.  I've been painting up a couple Xevoz robots to give my clones some big battle droids to fight, so I'll probably take some pics of my custom squad in action.

That sounds awesome. Love to see the squad in action, and the main reason i posted that was because somehow i missed your SA Bacara, Lt. Gamma and all the others.  Great Job on all of them, and dare I say it I really like the dead clone! Great work and I agree a partial helmet would look awesome. If you did it though dont glue it on or anything, in case you dont like it. Great Job!!! ;D

Gregorbian, another fantastic set of customs...

Smuggler - I'll review in detail in the Monthly Customizing Challenge thread

Gree - He looks pretty good... his straps seem a bit smudgy, but his paint seems to work very well.  I've seen a lot of different versions of him, it's hard to really get his paint scheme down, but I think yours is very close to being film accurate.

501st Clone - I'm gonna hold off on making my own until I have the Temple 5-pk with the 3 Clones in it... if I do make some, I'll use yours for reference.  Looks nice!

Gatlin Clone - Wow, he looks tough!  I would remove the vest, I think he looks fine without it... the green paint scheme really stands out on him.  Excellent.

Standard Bearer - I really like this, great flag you made... I like his cape on better than the vest.  I would suggest maybe a different cape though, maybe one that doesn't look so smooth.  Perhaps a Vader cape would have more texture?

Dead Clones - Heh heh... I can't get enough of these guys.  How many AoD figures have you bought?   ;)

Leia - You are truly the master of articulation!  How did you paint her?  Is the paint going to chip at the joints?  I hope not, because this is truly awesome.  I'm in awe of this... what head did you use?

 :P

Hey Buddy,

All of your stuff is great, I like the cape on the clone it makes him unique and different, but I love the dead clones, How do you make the bodies?

The smuggler is the Bomb.
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs
Post by: Gregorbian on July 13, 2005, 10:34 AM
Thanks for the comments CHEWIE!

I made the 501st clone a few days before TheJawa had the news of the upcoming 501st clones  :P  Oh well, you can't have enough of those guys ;)

I threw on the vest for the Gatling clone just because I had it lying around.  I kinda like it, although I should probably paint it or something.  It kind of reminds me of Jesse "The Body" Ventura from Predator.

A Vader cape for my Standard Bearer would probably work, I'll have to dig one out.  I used the Garindan cape because I had an extra (from my smuggler).  Maybe painting it would look better?  What do you think?

The AoD figure sets are on "double" clearance at my local Suncoasts (meaning they're $5.60 per set), so I try to pick up 1 everytime I'm on a toy run.

The paint chips a bit on the SA Leia  :-\, the major points of chipping are the upper thighs (which are hidden by her "skirt") and the shoulders, but the shoulders aren't that bad.  All of the other joints are fine.  The head is from a GC Slave Leia, as are the decorations on the front/back of the skirt.  I made her wrist/upper arm decorations out of putty and everything else is painted on.

Thanks for your comments/advice CHEWIE!  ;D

TijuanaJedi - Thanks man.  The dead clones are just Army of Darkness Skeleton figures (from Suncoast Video) with the armor cut off and clone parts glued on.  They're pretty simple customs and don't take a lot of time (unless you're hollowing out clone armor and gluing it onto the skeleton body  ;)).

Gregorbian, thanks for the info on the figures.  I think the cape looks pretty good... painting it might look good.  If you do, I would go for solid black.

Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs
Post by: Gregorbian on July 13, 2005, 10:41 AM
The best thing about the skeletons is that the armor on the "bone" skeletons is easily removable.  For the chest armor/hip skirt you only need to make 1 cut along the seam and the armor will come off easily.  The shoulder armor and wrist armor might have a little bit of glue, but a few cuts and some pulling and those will pop off as well.  The only thing that I couldn't remove (at least for the helmeted skeletons) were the armored helmets.  There is a skeleton with a chainmail headdress and I was able to remove that easily to get a plain skeleton.
One of the coolest features of these skeletons is the high level of articulation.  the bone skeletons have double-knee joints (think Marvel Legends) as well as ball jointed hips, shoulders, head, waist and the zombie-undead has double-elbow and double-knee joints as well as the same ball-joints.  Crazy!  ;D

I always love your custom, I only suggest this: Add that helmet cover that come with the AT-TE Tank Gunner to this figure, that will make this one looks like that heavy gun clone from the ROTS video game. ;)

Post by: jedipurge on July 13, 2005, 03:22 PM
greg I've been waiting for something new from you, great stuff as always.  not so sure I like the cape, but awesome flag he's holding.  I'd give both gattling and flag clone a clone commander skirt or a holster or something.  gattling trooper is definatley going to need a small arms weapon to carry around sometimes 1 shot is all it takes not a bazillion.  Also try giving that gattling gun a strap, because damn that thing looks heavy.
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs
Post by: Gregorbian on July 13, 2005, 03:27 PM
Thanks for the comments guys!
I was thinking of adding an AT-TE Tank Gunner helmet to my Gatling Gun Clone so that he would match my other Heavy Weapons Clone (the Bazooka Clone), thanks for pointing that out!  I was also thinking of making some sort of harness for his gun, but wasn't sure how to do that.  Any suggestions as to what type of material I could use?  I normally use embroidery floss for my straps/harnesses, but I think that would look weird on the Gatling gun.

The Gatling clone actually has a sidearm on the vest, although you can't see it (it was already like that), but you're right, I should give him a hip holster with a sidearm or something like that.  Good point!

Thanks for the advice guys!  ;D

I'm diggin tht Kubaz Smuggler. High Class stuff right there. I like the mini gun clone a lot too. the other clones are good But I think I'm starting to get bored of clone custums..
Flag bearing one is a good idea, and I think the cape looks fine.

the slave leia looks pretty cool, almost reminds me of something out of soul calibur the way it's made though. I'm not sure why.

Wow, I really like that!  I might have to grab a nice cheap paint wornm vinty fett and try that myself... have you thought about using a Kamino escape Jango to give him a removable helmet?  That might be a kinda cool little nod to tie the vinty to the new.   ;)

Thanks, that Fett cost me $5 (I bought a loose lot of 2 vinty Fetts for $10 and each had really tight limbs) and the only thing wrong with him was the paint, so I was happy to repaint him.
It never occurred to me to use a Kamino Escape Jango Head on him, but that's a good idea.  I was thinking about trying a vintage Jango next with my other vinty Fett, so maybe I'll do the removable helmet for that.  My only concern with that is that the modern headsculpts are so much more detailed than the vintage ones  :-\  Is there a vintage head that I could use for Jango?  I can't really think of any right now...

Here is a "Clone Hunter" - He was one of Count Dooku's initial choices for the Clone DNA donor, however he failed one of Dooku's tests (because of intereference from Jango Fett).  He then hired himself out to Nute Gunray to kill specially trained Clone Commanders, ARC Troopers, Commandos, and regular clones (he gets paid for every kill except for regular grunts, those he kills for fun).

Parts Used:
- BBi Elite Force Figure (base body)
- Bootleg Clone Trooper - heavily sanded torso/lower legs
- Bust-Ups Jango Fett jetpack
- AT-ST Pilot helmet from Endor Accessory Pack
- Gung-Ho side holster/pistol
- shower curtain (kama/mask)

The helmet is removable, but it's a really tight fit so I'll probably just leave it on for good.

Holy smokes!  What a great custom!

You not only came up with a great use of parts, but the color scheme makes him look scary as hell and his back story is spectacular.

I'm jealous of this figure.  You did superb job on it.

I've been tinkering with a bounty hunter to be in the Badoo Corba with a somewhat similar design but not nearly this detailed.  If it's ok, I might copy some of your ideas from this one.

These fan fic creations are always my favorites too.

Well done and a nice surprise to see this when rummaging through the customs section.   :)

I love those customs!

That SSA clonie is especiallu nice! Something that I didn't do for mine was the removeable helmet feature you have on yours.

I'm too scared to cut the ball joint off and I don't have a dremel, so I won't be attempting it any time soon, though. It's a shame, My Tank gunner's face is perfect. I got one through a trade and the eyes have come up perfect; no cross-eyed expresion!

Thanks man.  Transferring the neck to the SA Clone was actually the easiest part of the custom.  All that I did was cut the neck off at the base (right above the black neckguard); then I cut off the ball-joint at the shoulders and swapped.  Easy as pie  ;)

Why the Empire decided to use the more docile Dewbacks:

The junk droids are made from the Robots movie line of figures.  The parts are interchangeable and they give you tons of extra bits.  Great droid fodder.

The mounted clone was based on those DinoRiders figures from the '80's.  I repainted a Jurassic Park raptor and added a saddle out of epoxy putty and some pouches from BBi figures.  I used my first SSA clone as the rider since he is able to straddle the seat easily.

Let me know what you guys think!  I know there are a few dino-customizers on these boards, so I'm eager for any pointers  ;D

I think the droids are pretty cool, but I can't get my eyes off the Dino-Rider type creature.  That is awesome... easily one of the coolest things I've seen around here in a while!  I simply love it!

You've just opened up a whole new world for me in customizing... I want to try and make some stuff like this.  Do you have a name for this Dinosaur type species?

Where do you get epoxy putty by the way?  Is it expensive?

Well, since corellia is a planet that has things named after things in our world like the Correllian Corvette, Why not just call this a Corellian Velociraptor?  : D

Haha, I don't know about "Corellian Velociraptor"  :P
I'm open to suggestions about names though, I tried thinking of something but so far have come up blank  :-\

The dino was pretty fun to paint (you'd love it CHEWIE, it's a drybrusher's dream  ;)).

2-part Epoxy Putty - I buy mine from Games Workshop.  They call it "greenstuff" or simply "putty", but I think another brand is "Kneadite" or something like that.  I love it, it is much more durable than sculpey and it air dries, which is a lot easier for me.  It's pretty sticky so you will have to smooth it over (I dab a latex glove on it to get rid of my fingerprints), but it's really versatile with what you can use it for.  I highly recommend picking some up, they should have it at your Games Workshop store, or hobby shop, and if not there, check out Games Workshop's website: www.gamesworkshop.com.  If you can't find it, I can pick some up for you, just send  me a PM  ;)
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs - UPDATE 07/30/05

I knew it was a Raptor from the JP line, but I didn't know it was a KB exclusive.  i actually had a couple of Raptors a while back but sold them cheap at a garage sale.  D'oh!!

For the species name, I'd go with something completely made up; something that doesn't show a link to any "Earthly" but something more Star Wars-ish.  Maybe a "Medronochis" or something crazy like that.

Greg, thanks for the explanation on the epoxy.  I'll see if I can find it around here, if not I'll send you a PM probably.

those customs are awesome!!! Maybe for a name you could look at some Warhammer 40k stuff they have some cool names and actually some guys that look like that (i just cant seem to think of their name today, its something like Tyrids or something like that) Awesome Job love the Dinosaur, now u need to post a pic of the Clone grabbing his blaster in shooting the dino through the head (or mouth either will do fine, same effect :P ;D)

Awesome Customs!!!

Haha, maybe I'll get my brother to photoshop the clone killing his mount.
The Warhammer 40k creatures were called "Tyranids".  They were more insectlike, although there was a race of Lizardmen from Warhammer, I'll dig up an old White Dwarf and see if they have any cool names...  Thanks for the pointer ;D

Thanks dude,
the junk droids are from the Robots movie toy line.  I switched some parts and cut up/reassembled certain parts.  They're great droid fodder because all of the pieces (arms, legs, heads, torsos) are interchangeable.   They're also on clearance at Target right now  ;)

Greg big fan of your customs.  I have a question.  you do a great job with the figures you make from the stifkas, spelling?, and since I have yet to even see any of those things at retail my question would be would it be possible in your opinion to cut, glue, and drill into the legs of a AT-RT and make one of them super articulated.  it might not ever "walk" again, but it was something I was thinking about while sitting in traffic for an hour or so this morning.  let me know what you think.
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs - UPDATE 07/30/05
Post by: Gregorbian on August 2, 2005, 06:35 PM
Thanks for the kind words jedipurge.
When you are referring to the AT-RT, are you talking about the vehicle or the pilot that comes with the vehicle?  I'm not sure how to add articulation to the legs of the AT-RT vehicle, and there is currently a SA AT-RT Pilot, however if you wanted to add Stikfas ball-joints to the elbows/knees/hips, I think it would be possible (although I'd recommend buying hasbro's version)  ;)
Let me know if I misunderstood you!

Also,
I used Stikfas parts to add joints to my General Grievous and Gen. Grievous bodyguard, and I used Microman figures for my SA Scout, Boba Fett, and Slave Leia.

Post by: jedipurge on August 2, 2005, 07:00 PM
I was referring to the vehicle.  the only reason I was asking was because you've worked with the micro/stikfas before and they turned out so awesome and because I wanted to be able to get my AT-RT into a "crouching" position like it's ready to ambush someone from behind a wall or something, but I didn't want it to be in a permanent "crouch."  maybe if I can find an extra AT-RT and some of those micro/stikfas deals I'll try it out.

That sounds like a really cool idea, I'm not sure if the Stikfas joints will be strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle.  If you could find some sort of flat hinge joint from a toy, that would probably work, although I've never customized a vehicle so I wouldn't really know how to go about doing that.  Sorry!  :-\

That's a good idea, I think I might take a couple pics  ;)

Here is an early Imperial Gunner.  This custom was completely inspired by CHEWIE's early AT-AT Drivers (I even did some drybrushing to make it look more CHEWIE-esque  ;)).

After the execution of Order 66, the Emperor needed to focus on supressing the remnants of the Separatist movement and the newly formed rebellion.  He decided to use the clones to attack the wayward planets and use the massive amount of eager recruits to man the guns in the Imperial Navy's Star Destoyers.

Thoughts?  ;D

Very Nice Greg! :)

I really like the removable helmet feature. It is always nice to see little extras like that. They give the custom much more life and make them so much cooler. You have done a nice job on the drybrushing, it looks good. Maybe you could add some silver splotches to the armor where the paint has chipped.

What is the base figure there, is it the Elite Force Navy Seal Breacher? Whatever it is, you chose it quite nicely. I like the mini-dio you got going there too. :)

Thanks man, I love removable helmets, so I try to do them when I can.

You're right on the base figure, here are the parts:

BBi Elite Force Navy Seal Breacher - base figure
Vintage Biker Scout - boots
POTF2 Imperial Gunner - hollowed out helmet

That's a good idea about weathering him, but I kinda like him clean.  I don't see these guys having too much trouble since the main Separatist forces have been destroyed and the rebels are not yet strong enough to put up much of a fight.  I'd imagine it would be a pretty cushy job to be an Imperial Gunner ... at least until they die in the Death Star  :P

WOW!!!

I think the droids are pretty cool, but I can't get my eyes off the Dino-Rider type creature.  That is awesome... easily one of the coolest things I've seen around here in a while!  I simply love it!

You've just opened up a whole new world for me in customizing... I want to try and make some stuff like this.

Droids are cool, but I can' get over that Raptor. Same one I customized a while back with a brown/Tan deco. Just an all around excellent job, you need absolutely no pointers in the ways of dinosaur customizing, because you've just brought it to an all new level.

Dino Riders was one of my favorite things when I was a little Kid, I still have the Tyrannosaurus and most of the guys from that series. I feel incredibly inclined to customize that Rex for Clone or Stormtrooper use... but its too collectible..

I want to talk about that great gunner too, but the memories of Krulos and Questar are too powerful right now.. I gotta go find those Tapes and watch them now haha..

sorry.

Ah, the Dino-Rider days!  They had some cool toys, and there were some cool ones the JP line too.  Something though about most of the JP toys seemed like they could have done better on them to me.

That upcoming KING KONG movie might have some cool dinosaur toys made for it; and hopefully the figures would be 3-3/4".

Off topic, but here's a few screen shots from the upcoming game for it -

Here are some more:

The first is a SSA Commander Appo (based on the concept art).  I used the regular formula for an SSA Clone (head and lower torso/legs of AT-TE Tank Gunner and upper-body of #41 Clone) with some BBi Elite Force Accessories (as everybody else has already done  ;)).  I made him because I wanted to do something with my Zett Jukassa figure  :P

SSA Commander Appo:

And below are my submissions for the Customs Challenge.  I'll post these in the Customs Challenge thread as well:

Janitor Droid (7HR-GD) and Bucketbot:

Backstory on Janitor Droid:
The Crusader Class Assassin Droid was employed by Count Dooku to assassinate a high ranking politician on Tralfa, a planet that refused to submit to the demands of the Separatists.  Unfortunately for Dooku, the Republic forces arrived in time to reinforce the Tralfa Home Defense Army and the Crusader Class Assassin Droid was captured intact (the auto-self destruct was damaged in the skirmish).  The targeted politician was a proud man and decided to "show" Dooku and other Separatists that he was not afraid of their thwarted assassination attempts; he converted the Crusader Class Assassin Droid into a Janitor Droid for the Home Defense Army Training Depot.

Nice looking Appo Greg. :) Just a Quick Question but how do you mix the legs or where do you cut the torso?

The droids are fantastic! :D The Janitor is an excellent use of parts. I see some Grievous and Clone trooper parts but I don't know what the rest comes from. I'd love the recipie, this is one I may have to copy for myself one day. :) Nice choice of color on him too, it fits him really well. The mop turned out great. Is it custom made? I really like the bucket droid too. He really looks like he could be a mop bucket. :P These really turned out geat, it is cool to see something different like these guys. Someone has to clean up the Star Wars universe.  :P I have only seen something like this done once before, by Owen. Great Work, these are my favorite droids from this months CCC so far. :)

Thanks for the kind words!  ;D

Here is a quick recipe for the Janitor Droid:
- Body - SP General Grievous (or GG from Jedi vs. Sith Battlepack)
- boots/head - dollar store Spacer figure (cut the GG's feet off right below the knee joint)
- hands - Darth Maul (with the spinny right hand feature - cut them off after the wrist joint to keep wrist articulation)

Mop - It's custom made; I took a wooden skewer and glued strands of embroidery thread to the bottom.  Then I painted the pole brown

SSA Commander Appo - to make SSA Clones, you need an AT-TE Tank Gunner and a #41 SA Clone.  Put them into some hot water for a while to soften them up, then take out the AT-TE Tank Gunner.  I cut directly below his sculpted-on belt (make sure to keep the front pockets intact).  The #41 Clone is a lot harder to cut through - you need to cut off his belt, then cut where the belt was (match it up to the height of the severed AT-TE Tank Gunner lower torso/legs to make sure they are the same height).  Then you just glue the #41 upper torso to the #38 lower torso and put the belt back on (you might need to shave the inside ridge of the belt to make it fit better).  Easy as pie  ;)

EDIT: forgot to add - it's really easy to do a headswap with the #38 Clone and #41 Clone - just cut the neck peg off of the #38 Clone (directly above the black neck covering) and cut the neck-ball-joint off of the #41 clone (directly above the black neck covering) and then swap.  Hasbro should be doing this for us, but oh well  :P

Those BBI figures with the straps have dried up in my neck of the woods though. It's killing me, because I can think of so many uses for them. *Sigh.*

The Janitor droid is pretty darn funny, and I like the backstory. Nice work.

I started grad school this week so I've been swamped with homework/reading, but I have a few ideas that I want to try out.  Hopefully if I get through my work quickly enough I'll have some time to do some more customs.
I picked up a few Clone Evolutions sets and if those don't scream "Customize Me!" I don't know what else does!  My only problem is that the figures are so cool without any tweaks, I might just go the long way in terms of using my SA Clones and AT-TE Tank Gunners instead.... maybe... ;)

Anyway, what do you guys think?
I am debating whether to just paint the holster straps on or to use some extra BBi gunstraps...

I used the Saga Jango Fett (Kamino Escape) for the head, helmet and shin armor/gun holsters; a Saga Jango Fett (Final Battle) for a gauntlet and the jetpack; and a Jango Fett Bust-Ups for the chest armor, gauntlet, and guns.

Damn, I hope this isn't your last custom for a while... but it's understandable that you've got a life beyond customizing Star Wars figures.   ;)

The Jango looks fantastic.  I have no idea how you pull these off, but they are amazing.

The only thing I might suggest is somehow making him darker and his jumpsuit just a little more "worn" in some way.  Some sort of dry brushing or something might do the trick.

For the gun straps, I think that BBI ones would look fantastic.

I knew you were going to say that!  :P
I had to repaint his jumpsuit 3 times before I got what I thought was a "good" color.  I was going to drybrush him, but I kind of like the "flat" look to him, I'm not really sure why...
I think you're right about the BBi straps; that's probably what I'll go with.

Thanks for the kind words CHEWIE!  I promise to try to drybrush more!  ;D

Heh heh... it still looks great the way you painted it.

You know what I've found recently that I like to do for painting?  Dry spray!  Using black, gray, tan, etc. for a distance, barely letting it hit the surfact of a figure, and then sealing with with an acrylic matte spray.  It's working out really well for me.

 :P

Is "dry spray" like what you did for the speckled clone or is that something else?  When you dry spray is it a solid (but slightly translucent) coating?  I don't really follow, but it sounds like an interesting technique  ???
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs - UPDATE 08/18/05
Post by: CHEWIE on August 31, 2005, 11:30 PM
Yeah, it's how I painted the speckled Clone recently, and did the majority of the painting on all three of my droids for this month's customizing challenge.

Also, the recent "beat up" Clone as well as the recent Rykrof Enloe had some dry spraying done too.

No, it's not really a solid coating.  I use a can of spray paint about 2 feet from the figure, and move the can back and forth, so it gently sprays a very light mist onto the figure.  Make sense?

 :P

I getcha, that sounds pretty cool.  I might have to try that if I have some time, I think that method would work well on scenery and stuff as well as figures.

The only problem is that I have to lug anything that I'm spraypainting out of my apartment and spray it in the driveway, so it's a bit of a pain....

I'm trying to figure out how to take pics of my clones; I think I might dust off my downed gunship and do a little battle scene like how Dressel Rebel has been doing it.
If I have any free time, you can bet that I'll be putting that into customs!

Wow, 3rd page of the Customs section  :'(  :P
I was able to finish up a PT Craft (I need a better name) and a 12" ARC Trooper, although I still have some pouches and stuff to add to my ARC Trooper.

Why is that clone trooper dropping pellets on his pilot?   :P

Really though, nice work on the PT craft.  Maybe a windshield would look good on it, and some more "embellishments," like some more aerodynamic panelling on the sides. Is that an AOTC pilot helmet on the ROTS pilot body?  I like it, whatever it is.

Is that 12" clone armor on a Dragon body?

Wow about damn time. ;)

I love that PT craft. It's a very creative little ship. I think a windshield would make sense. I think that clone could use some boot hooks or something to hook him in so he doesn't fall off while he is shooting. That pilot is awesome. I really like the sculpting you did on the helmet. Maybe you could give him a matching gunner, at least color-wise. As for a name what about the Power Stripe Patrol Craft, Red Zone Defender,  Sure Dry Attack Craft, or "the Deodorizer." :P :-*

Nice work on the ARC, I'm not a fan of Hasbro's 12", the sculpts have never impressed me.

Great update Greg, those look great. The PT craft is cool. I really like the black painted pilot... he looks awesome. The 12" ARC looks awesome too, but you might want to take some pics of him against something other than a black background. I had to look three times before I saw that he was wearing a kama  :P

Grego, I'm glad that you updated!   :)

The ARC Trooper is nice, but I have no experience in customizing 12" figures...

But the PT craft is really cool.  Something very unique and really creative.  Looks like something you might see some sort of smugglers or terrorists using perhaps rather than an official Republic/Imperial military craft, but it still works.

Well done and it's nice to see you making vehicles like this!

 :P

Awesome PT craft gregorbian! I see the gun is from the HALO Warthog ;) Awesome use of parts! also might want to make a harness or some kind of chair thing on the back of the gun(or even just cut a little "ditch" out of the craft so he has a place to stand/sit) I also like the 12" ARC Trooper, very cool. Also might want to take some pics of him without the Black background, so we can see his Kama details.

Awesome Job!

Post by: Gregorbian on September 28, 2005, 01:28 PM
Thanks for the comments everybody!
I felt pretty crappy because I hadn't updated with any new customs in almost a month, so I figured that I would forgo the extra studying and finish up a couple WIPs  ;)

I definitely agree that the black background was a bad idea, I will try to replace the images with the ARC Trooper on a white background today if I get a chance.

The PT Craft (or "Red Zone Defender"  ;)) was based on an image that I saw in an old issue of White Dwarf about 10 years ago.  I figured that a deodorant casing would make for a pretty decent "Star Warsy" ship.  I didn't spend as much time on it as I would have liked to (hence the awkward position of the clone gunner).

bjardkerr - I put some "green stuff" putty over the open-part of the Clone Pilot body to make the facemask and the "fin" on the top of the helmet.  Then I sprayed him black and repainted him.  Quick and easy use for a pegwarmer  ;)
The 12" ARC Trooper is a BBi (Elite Force) body (basically the same as Dragon) with slightly resized AotC Clone armor.  This was my first attempt at a 12" custom that was not a repaint or a simple body switch.  It was pretty fun but quite different from 3 3/4" customs.  I kind of want to try switching out a bunch of my Imperial troopers (TIE Pilot, AT-AT Driver, Scout Trooper, Snowtrooper, etc) onto the Dragon/BBi bodies, but I don't think I'll tackle many more "customs" like the ARC Trooper.  I want to do a couple more ARCs but I can't sew so my options are very limited in terms of what I can do with 12" figures.  :(

Ryan - I was actually making a corresponding Gunner for the ship (based on the #54 AT-RT Driver figure), but when I sprayed a primer coat on him, it really gunked him up.  I think I screwed up the figure so I might just switch the head onto a Clone body and start over.

TJ - The only other vehicle that I have done is my "Downed Gunship" (which actually earned my invitation to the JD.com forums!  :P).  I think that's on the first page.

jokabofe - I can't even make out the kama on my computer screen, how did you see that!?  ;)

CHEWIE - That's interesting about the terrorist/smuggler craft, I never thought about that, but I can definitely see it now that you've mentioned it.  I always envisioned it as a "Warthog" (from Halo) for the Imperial Army, but I can see what you mean...

crazy - You got it!  I used the extra Warthog chain gun that I had and attached it to the Clone Pilot "radar cannon" - it actually attached quite easily.  My original intention was to have the Clone Gunner "sit" on the satchel and then stand up and swing the gun around as needed, but I can see that he might have some "trouble' staying on, especially if they were in combat.  Maybe I can attach some sort of harness to the shoulder rests?

I would have never tought to use a deodorant package for a toy, but now I see it, you are a genius, it looks great, I did see your downed ship and I really liked the paint job on it.

Hey Gorb, can you take pics of the 12" ARC in lighter background because it's hard to see his kama. Also take pics of the pilot. Great customs. Never thought a deoderant could be a ship. I guess it will keep the ship fresh and clean during battle. ;D ;)

Thanks ;D
It was pretty quick and easy - I just took an MP5 (from a KB Toys 12" figure gun accessory pack) and put on a scope (also from the pack) and cut off the magazine clip.  Then I took some blank CD spacers (they came in the 50 pack of blank CD's, not sure exactly what they are for, but they are basically plastic washers), glued 2 together, painted it black and glued it onto the gun.  It's not totally accurate, but it took about 5 minutes to make and I thought it looked "close enough"

Hey guys, CHEWIE is right, I've been insanely busy!  I'm in the middle of studying for finals right now but needed to take a break!  If I hear another thing about "Personal Jurisdiction" or "Vicarious Liability" I think my brain will explode  :P

I feel bad posting comments on some customs without posting on others, so I have been refraining from posting at all until I get the time to give everybody some comments.  Maybe that's for the worse, considering I'm about 2 pages behind as of now  ;)
Anyway, I'll try to get back to customizing/posting when my finals are done.
Tell me it gets easier InRem!  :-\

Tell me it gets easier InRem!  :-\

Do you understand the concept behind my screen name? If so you're way ahead of the curve.

Seriously, this is the WORST of it, but a lot of people theorize the only reason students think it gets easier is b/c they get used to it. It's somewhere in the middle, I think.

FOCUS right now... you can't afford to do much else, and good grades this semester will set the table for so many opportunities (law review, moot court, mock trial, etc.) Don't worry about the forums - they will be here when you're done.

Remember to decompress before your exams. Take a couple of hours to have dinner with your study group the night before a big exam (no beer or wine with dinner) and try not to think too much about the law you've been cramming in. Believe it or not, by that time the night before the exam you already know everything you're going to know the next morning.

Hmmm... more tips. How about this.

There was an ambulance at the bar exam to take people away if they had a panic attack or worse. On the other hand, I never once saw a 1L exam - no matter how hard - result in physical harm to the student. :P

And remember - survive this semster and the next and based on the statistics you WILL be an attorney someday.

Best of luck! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers (and I encourage others to join me).

I need to get back to studying now!

Phruby - thanks for the compliments on the ARC!  I added a couple of black holsters from a 12" Cobra Commander figure that I got at KB for $5.  I wasn't sure how to make the saddle pouches, but I think the dual holsters looks pretty cool (they are in the same spot as the saddle pouches would be, as opposed to where the ROTS Clone Commanders have them).

Here are some more conventional customs:

Onda Grott - A Mandalorian mercenary who was hired by the newly formed Empire to hunt down renegade Jedi scum.  His dual-rocket jetpack enables him to insert quickly into any area.  He prefers quick kills from a distance and is not known for his bravery.  Many other Mandalorians make fun of his "need" for an Assassin-Droid helper.  At least he's getting paid...

Assassin-Droid - CWRD-571
Built by Onda Grott to make up for Grott's difficulty hunting Jedi, CWRD-571 was a valuable asset to his Mandalorian maker.  CWRD-571 was cobbled together from pre-existing droid parts, but has proven himself to be durable and reliable.  With a layer of Mandalorian Iron, CWRD-571 is able to withstand limited slashes from lightsabers and blaster bolts, however CWRD-571's master prefers to keep his distance from Jedi if at all possible, so the added armor is rarely utilized.

Grott was made from a Transformers "Kicker" figure with a POTF2 Boba Fett helmet and gauntlets.  The jetpack is made from various extra bits.

CWRD-571 was made from a POTF2 8D8 torso, upper arms, and feet; an Ep. 1 Battle Droid Commander hips, upper thighs, knee joints, and antennae; Transformers "Kicker" helmet; and ROTS Sneak Preview General Grievous forearms.

Usually the desk is covered with customs-works in process unless I'm actually working on a custom, which is the only time that I clear it off.  I have to do my homework and type my essays on my bed...

I really wish I had a tray for paint, maybe I'll buy one toady at an after-Christmas sale. Hey, cool customs. The snowtrooper and the Mandolorain IMO are the best. Cool work, can't wait to see more.

Wow, you have been very busy and your work has paid off Greg!  I'm not into the 12" line, but they look great and superior to Hasbro's work.  Are you planning on doing any customizing with the new Sideshow line?

Mandalorian - Very cool to see a different look to one of these guys, I like the parts you used.  He really look looks nimble and stealthy.

CWRD-571 - Now this is an awesome use of parts, and the paint scheme is killer.  I love this droid, he really looks like he would be a tough match if he was after you.  Very well done!

And your workspace is better than mine, actually I don't even have one.   ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys!
The 12" figures are more "upgrades" than anything else since I kept pretty much all of the hasbro parts unmodified.  Each figure only took about 10 to 15 minutes to upgrade, so it was a way to keep customizing in between hitting the books.  I had to resize a few pieces but all of the paint apps and sculpting are 100% hasbro - I think they did a great job with their 12" line except for the base bodies and headsculpts.
I'll see what the Sideshow figures look like.  A Sideshow figure is $50-$60 a piece and my hasbro upgrades cost about $15 to $30 a piece, depending on what parts I used.  If nothing else, I figured the troopers were a cheap alternative to the Marmit Troopers that came out a few years ago.

jedistyle - the Mandalorian body was a "Kicker" figure from the transformers line (I got 2 of them on sale at KB for $11 total).  It's an ok body, the articulation is similar to GI Joe figures.  I didn't really have to modify the body that much, so that was a perk  ;)

great update Gregorbian. the 12" upgrades are very nice, its amazing how the whole character of a Hasbro 12" can change once the body is more realistic and posable. i myself have a whole graveyard of Hasbro bodies  ;)

i really like the paint apps on the Mandalorian and the droid especially. the mandalorian reminds me of a microman and the droid was a great use of parts which come together to make an original concept.

keep up the good work  :)

Great Job!

Your 12" Stuff is Sweet. I have A Bunch of WWII 12 figs. that I've Customized, but I've only made a few Star Wars 12" Customs. You've inspired me to try out a few more.

Both of these 4" customs came out came out really well.

The Mandalore looks great. I like the fact that it's not another Fett Repaint and the Silver Visor is a nice original touch. I picked up a couple of these Kicker figs myself. They are currently sitting in my WIP pile waiting to become Coruscant Speeder Bike Cops.

The Assassin Droid is the real stand out of the Bunch. The Parts Work perfectly together. The Articulation looks well preserved if not improved.  The Paint Aps. are very neat( Good Choice on the Colors). And the Weathering is very realistic.

I can't wait to see more. Keep up the great Work.

Thanks guys!  Here are some guys that I have been planning for about 3 months but were finally able to make yesterday:

Leyatt Defense Force Guardsmen
Leyatt, a planet that openly supported the "Petition of 2000" before the emergence of the Empire, was regarded as one of the more "civilized" of the mid-rim planets.  As peaceful as the Alderaanians but as crafty as the Corellians, the Leyatt have a powerful modern army which they only use for defense.  Since the expert Leyatt soldiers and pilots refused to join the Empire's recruiting academies, Leyatt was blacklisted and eventually invaded.  The Leyatt people were scattered throughout the galaxy and were a main source of soldiers and pilots for the Rebellion.  After the New Republic was established, many of the surviving Leyatt moved back to their abandoned home planet to rebuildit.

Leyatt Guardsman (sergeant):

Leyatt Guardsmen (soldiers):

Leyatt Communications Officer:

Many Count Dookus were sacrificed in the making of these figures  ;)

What happened to that poor Sgt to give him the metal claw?  Poor fella... :'(

Great use of the Dooku body!  Looks like that squad could use some muscle though, perhaps one of the grunts could steal a Sandtrooper BFG to lay down some support fire?  ;)

The sergeant had an accident...  stupid stormtroopers...  ;)
I have 1 more Count Dooku figure so I might make him a rocket guy or something.  I based these guys off of Warhammer 40k Imperial Guardsmen (specifically "Mordian Iron Guard" and "Cadian Shocktroopers") and their heavy weapons teams are 2 guys, so I might try to snag another Dooku and make a heavy weapons team...

Thats a great looking set of
Characters you've got there!

I like the color scheme and you did an excellent job on the Pin stripeing.

These Guys remind me of a Very Imperial like Navy that apeared in one of the Old "Battlestar Galactica" Episodes. I can't think of their name but I'll look it up and get back to you on that. What did you use for the shoulder pads?

The Sgt. is my favorite. His Bionic Claw Really gives his Character some history and creates interest. Did you make these guys for a Photo Novel?

The custom weapons are a nice touch. You modified the real world weapons just enough to give them that Star Wars
feel.

My only Critique is their Helmets seem to Real World for my taste,  maybey you could modify them. Try adding some antennae, or mabey some type of Crest or Ornament.

Great work can't wait to see more,

Fritzkrieg

I can see the Imperial Guard ness in them. They look pretty darn good.
Talking about Cadian shockers   I got a 20 pack for christmas and are gluin' the last few as we speak!Nice to know theres a fellow warhammer 40k lover here.

I might have to "steal" this idea if you don't mind.   That sparks another idea in my mind........1:18 scale warhammer 40k!
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs - UPDATE 12/29/05
Post by: Gregorbian on December 29, 2005, 06:43 PM
I'm glad you guys like 'em!  I've been wanting to do some more Warhammer 40k stuff for a while, so I figured I might as well just make 'em as Star Wars characters  :P
I agree that the helmets seem a bit too "real worldly" but I kinda like that aspect - I wanted to keep 'em as close to Cadian Shocktroopers as was practicable and as much as my limited customizing abilities would allow.
I do like Fritzkrieg's idea of a crest or emblem though, what would you guys recommend?

NoMercyJoe - I used to be hardcore into Warhammer (technically the first "customs" that I ever made).  When I was into Warhammer (about 7 or 8 years ago) most of the pieces were pewter and the plastic guys were very limited in terms of what you could do.  Whenever I stop by the Games Workshop store to pick up supplies I'm always tempted to pick up that plastic Cadian Shocktrooper set - they look so cool!

those are awsome, i really like the stormtrooper. what micro-man did you use for the base and where are you geting the armor from?

great update and very creative.
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs - UPDATE 01/04/06
Post by: Gregorbian on January 4, 2006, 10:11 PM
Thanks for the feedback  ;D

jediknight760071 - It usually takes about 4 to 6 hours to make a figure, from start to finish.  Most of the work is on dremelling the armor pieces to fit, although for the stormtrooper it took forever to attach his armor pieces since I ran out of my good superglue and I had to use some crappy generic glue.
I get the Microman figures from various places, I bought a bunch from KB Toys and Suncoast, and then I ordered some more online (from www.smalljoes.com I think)

jedistyle - I forget the exact Microman that I used, but I think it was "Acroyear" or something like that.  They are pretty plain figures which is good.  I also use the Micromen figures from KB Toys, although you have to dremel off a lot of their armor and stuff.
The armor for the Biker Scout is just a vintage Biker Scout with all of the "armor" pieces separated and dremeled down to individual pieces.
The armor for the Stormtrooper was a Commtech Stormtrooper (I bought a bunch of unassembled Commtech Stormies on eBay a while ago).  I dremelled down the armor pieces to fit the Microman figure.  I also used a Gentle Giant Bust-Ups Stormtrooper helmet and shoulderpads.

Hope this helps, I can't wait to see your version!

Once again, your talents floor me Gregorbian.  Every time I think I'm getting better at customizng, someone comes along and pushes me to the ground like the little runt I was in second grade.   ;)

I think both are excellent and a testament to how creative you are.  The only thing I think you could improve, might be to paint that Stormtrooper bust up helmet a brighter white - maybe spray paint it, then fill in the fine details with black paint.

Excellent work, some of your best yet.  The dremeling out is perfectly done and no figure in the Star Wars line will probably ever be this articulated.  I hope Hasbro can see your work for inspiration.

Post by: Phrubruh on January 4, 2006, 10:51 PM
Wow! I've got to try doing this. That looks like a huge amount of dremeling out. Did you nick any of the armor as you worked? How do you hold the armor piece as you dremel? Do you have a special clamp? Please don't tell me you hold each piece with your fingers. :o
Title: Re: Gregorbian's Customs - UPDATE 01/04/06
Post by: Gregorbian on January 4, 2006, 11:48 PM
CHEWIE - Thanks a lot for the (unwarranted) praise and feedback!  You're right about the stormie helmet, I think I'll paint it.   ;D

Master_Phruby - I highly recommend trying some of these.  They're a lot of fun!  I didn't really nick any of the armor when I was dremeling, although I had to trim down the Stormtrooper boots a bit more than I had initially intended because I dremeled a bit too much.
No clamp for me, just my index/thumb finger combo  ;)  It's actually not that bad on the larger pieces, but when you're doing knee/elbow pads it can get a little rough.  Luckily the friction burns when I slip or dremel too close go away pretty quickly, so they don't slow me down too much  ;D  The biggest problem with dremeling and holding the piece is that if you lose your grip the piece goes flying.  I ended up making 3 knee pads for my biker scout because one of them shot to some random corner of the room.

Very Nice Work on those Super Articulated Troopers. I wish I had some of those Micromen Bodys to work w/.
I think you use a similar Technique to the One I use when makeing my Deadite Troopers. I use Several diff. kinds of bits to Hollow and rout-out the Armor. It is very time consuming and yes I hold the pieces w/ my hands when I dremel them. I n my line of work I use the Dremel alot and have become very comfortable w/ that tool.

These Micromen customs are actually a lot like the dead clones (or in your case, dead EVERYTHING!  ;D).  I like having the separate armor pieces - I've been thinking of hollowing out some Clone Armor just to display.

WOW, those version 2 Micromen look awesome.  Really really great.  I love the posability that they get.  I always felt like the first bike scout looked a little "thin"  these guys are filled out nicely!  Keep up the great work.

So, what's your "secret special superglue"?  I haven't settled on a good brand yet.  I recall having the most sucess with something made by Koss (I think?)  but I can't find it anywhere anymore.

I appreciate all the dremel advice in this thread.  I've only dremelled a little bit this year and each time I think I'm going to grind my fingers to a pulp  :)

BrentS - the "secret" superglue is just "Loctite" super glue.  I really like how it holds quickly and doesn't turn the plastic white.  I also like "Zap-A-Gap" but haven't used that in a long time.

The Snowtrooper looks really great too Gregorbian.  I think the microman parts work best on the Scout Trooper out of the three, just because I think of Scout Troopers needing to be a bit more nimble.  But the Snowtrooper is awesome too.  I'm going to be sad with you going back to school, I've loved seeing all these new customs from you and hearing your comments on my stuff too.

Thanks guys, I just kinda felt compelled to do a Snowtrooper since I had done the Scout and Stormtrooper.  The Scout was the "important" one in terms of the articulation and stuff.
I'll try not to disappear as much this semester.  Now that I know what I've gotten myself into, I should be able to handle it a bit better this time ... knock on wood  ;)

I really want to do a Clone Trooper, but that might have to wait.   :-\

Your Microman figures look great.  The snowtrooper just blows me away.  I  would have thought that the MM figure would be too skinny to pull this off, but it works wonderfully.

I wish I had your patience and skill with a dremel.

Here is another Mandalorian custom:
Clen Tcharn is lethal at close range, however he is not quite the "crack-shot" that most Mandalorians are (due to a bounty that didn't go as planned).  He used to partner with Onda Grott, however Grott's decision to replace Tcharn with a modified assassin droid quickly ended that partnership.  When Grott and Tcharn ran into each other while chasing down a bounty, they "had it out."  Tcharn walked away.

Wow, nice update!  So is this three new customs here?

I like the blue Mandalorian a lot.  He kind of has a slender build but I think it works out well.

The Mandalorian with his arms showing looks like a badass.  Are those GI JOE arms?  Usually I don't like those but in this case I think it works really well.  Good painting on this guy and interesting design.

The droid guy is awesome!  What parts are those?  I think they look like an 8D8 torso?  And the head from a Transformer?  Legs from an EPI Battle Droid perhaps?  I love the paint scheme.

Thanks guys!  ;D

I made Onda Grott (blue and black Mandalorian) and his assassin droid (CWRD-571) at the end of December.  Here are the parts:
Onda Grott
 - Transformers Kicker figure, POTF2 Boba Fett helmet and gauntlets

CWRD-571
- Head - Transformers Kicker figure
- Torso - 8D8
- arms - ep. 1 Battle Droid
- hips/legs - ep. 1 Battle Droid
- lower legs - 8D8
- forearms - Sneak Preview General Grievous
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/Gregorbian/AssassinDroidGreen6.jpg)
Onda Grott and CWRD-571

Clen Tcharn
- Head - Saga2 Carkoon Boba Fett
- Torso - Final Battle Jango Fett
- hips/lower legs - Saga2 Carkoon Boba Fett
- arms - G.I. Joe Gung-Ho (Venom vs. Valor)

You have to shave down the shoulder holes on the Jango Fett torso so that the ball-joints fit in, but otherwise all of the parts fit perfectly.

The Kicker Mandalorean I just awesome. The cloor scheme is perfect. Definately my favorite of the bunch. The assasin droid may have to go on my "Inspiration" list sometime in the future. Excellent work as always. Cant wait for the next update.

Hey haven't been around on these boards too much lately, and did I miss out! Awesome customs Greg, everyone of them is flawless. I really like your guardsmen, great idea! I'm think with the name and some of the design, you based ot off an Imperial Guardsmen?(from warhammer 40k, of course :P)  Just a guess. Really like your microman customs, that must have taken some time!

For the Immortal Emperor!  ;)

Thanks guys, glad you like 'em!

Crazy about Clones - yeah, those guys were based on a mixture of Cadian Shocktroopers and Mordian Iron Guard.  I'm working on some Steel Legion-esque troopers but the paint on the trenchcoats got really sticky for some reason.  Hopefully it'll dry eventually, but I doubt it.  ::)

This is a repainted Kaiyodo (bootleg) vinyl model.  It took about 2 days to paint, but it was a lot cheaper than the real thing!

Wow! I like that new Fett bust you painted. Is that bootleg bust about the same or inferior to the real thing? How much detail have you noticed is missing from the bootleg? How much is the bootleg?

Thanks Phruby  ;D

I got the Kaiyodo bootleg model kit for $30 shipped on eBay.  Most of the kits on eBay seem to be from overseas (UK and Far East), so shipping is a bit steep.  The quality of the model kit is actually very high; there are a lot of details (folds in the flightsuit, detailing on the belt, etc).  It is a vinyl kit, so you have to trim the pieces down since they come with a lot of excess material.  The rocket, gun, antenna, flamethrower, and jetpack knobs are some kind of metal (I think it's pewter, but it's probably lead).  Superglue works fine when you are assembling the pieces.  Hope this helps, I'm thinking of picking up another to make Jango  8)

Nice Fett bust Greg! i love the paint job, very realisitic. i may have to look into getting one of these model kits, it would be great for parts for a 12" scale figure. the only nitpick i have is the base you have Fett on is a little larger in diameter than the GG bust bases...other than that it looks like a Fett that could fit right into their line of busts.

btw, are the wookie braids "hair" or are they vinyl? i know the GG Fett bust has real "hair" braids...i was lucky enough to get one a long time ago when they came out before they got super expensive  :o

Thanks for the responses guys!

CHEWIE - I've been wanting to make a Needa using that head for a long time and I finally got around to it.  The cap is not removable since I didn't feel like breaking out my dremel (it was pretty late and I don't know if my neighbors would have been to happy to hear my rampant drilling  ;)).

Ripley - I didn't realize they used real braids for the Boba Fett mini-bust, I might add them later on.  I have some leftover "wookiee braid" thread left over from my Microman and Marvel Legends Boba Fett, so that might be a good idea.  The base was the smallest that I could find (aside from heart and oval shaped bases).  It took me about 3 weeks of searching the local (and not so local) craft stores.  I don't have any tools aside from my dremel so I wasn't able to cut it down to a proper size.  If anybody has an idea of a more accurate base then I am all ears!

About damn time. ;)

First off the officer looks great, that was my only gripe with the Hasbro figure was the lack of articulation.

The Mandos look excellent so far, I can't wait to see how these end up. The Djas holsters are an excellent fit for the fellow on the right. The guantlets look kind of akward on the guy on the right, they seem sort of bulky and don't appear to have anything that would be holding them onto the arm. Any idea on what you are going to do for a color scheme?

You're right about the gauntlets; they don't look so bad in person but I was going to add some strips of greenstuff putty to make the gauntlets look like they're held in place.
As for the color scheme, I want to make one of them in a black jumpsuit (probably the guy on the right), maybe with silver armor plates.  The guy on the left will get a new backpack and will probably be in a dark grey jumpsuit with blue armor plates.   That's all off of the top of my head though, it'll probably be different when I get around to painting them (they've been sitting on my kitchen table for a few weeks...)

Gregorbian, the figures look pretty good.  You did a great job incorporating G.I. parts into your figures.  The ball joint on the SA Imperial Commander improves that figure 10 fold.  Your mandalorians are off to a good start and can't wait to see them finished.

The Imp Commander looks 100% better there should be more articulation in the SW figures.

Mandalorians are coming along very nicely and the use of all the different parts is awesome I'm really looking forward to seeing them when their done.

Nice Update Greg.  I think the Imperial Officer is a huge improvement over the existing figures.  Well done.

The Mandos are looking really good.  Its a very nice blend of parts.  On the one of the right, you might want to add a cape or something as I think his shoulders still out a little too much from the parts swap.  I'm looking forward to seeing these guys painted up!

I'm liking the Mando's a lot Gregorbian, and the parts are a great mix.... usually I like seeing the final result because on WIP figures, I probably have my own idea of how it will turn out and then get disapointed in myself for my lack of imagination when I see the final results which are usually a lot better than what I figured I could have done, lol.

That Imperial Officer SA style is amazing.  Seems like it's a figure that has been neglected by a lot of customizers but you did it justice.  Perfect meshing of parts on it, A+++.

I love articulation! Excellent choice of project, as I think that Imperial Officer figure is just GREAT for a POTJ fig. Also, I always love a good Mandalorian figure; I'm going to be making one of my own, after my NJO line, so It's always nice to see examples of how other people go about it. So far, it looks great, especially with, what looks to be, Glassman's removable helmet. Awesome work!

I love your SA Imperial officer, very cool!

I also absolutely ADORE your mandalorians. I'm amandalorian fanatic, and it's great that you're adding variety to your mando'ade. The Djas Phur belt is an awesome choice. I used it for my self-mandalorian custom and changing the belt really makes a difference hen it comes to mandalorians.

Brent - I am going to try sculpting small shoulder pads onto the Mandalorian currently without them, hopefully that will make the shoulders look more "natural"

Commander Korba - Yeah, that is a BBi Elite Force head.  I bought it a long time ago and forget which one it is (I'm thinking "mortar team" but I could be wrong).  Last time I checked, TRU.com had them on "sale" (still more expensive than finding them in the store, but lately I have not seen them at retail) and they had the figure that I used "in stock."

Thanks guys,

The mini-bust is the same size/scale as Gentle Giant mini-busts (1/6th scale).  The head I bought on eBay from that CDCraftn guy several months ago, and the jetpack and pistol were casted by Glassman for me.

The Boba Fett was a VOTC Boba Fett with a Jango Fett (Kamino Escape) helmet and head.  I'll try to take some clearer pics if I can find my brother's good digital camera.

Boba Fett looks Great! Is the Helmet the Glassman Cast or did you use the Jango Fet Helmet?

Master Chief is awsome. I assume you stared by Haking up a Master Guns Figure Cast?

Han Solo looks Great, Did You Swap the New SVOTC onto the VOTC? Looks Much Better.

Master Chief- Love this, he looks really great! Is the Grunt from Joyride Studio's 7' HALO line? 5/5

Boba- Another great custom. His head reminds me of how he looked in ESB: Infinities. What Jango head did you use for his head? Kamino Escape?

Thanks for the comments guys!

Smarty - Thanks man, that particular Microman body lent itself pretty well to Spartan style armor.

Fritz - The helmet and the head are from the Kamino Escape Jango Fett.
        - Thanks on the kind words for the Master Chief.  I sculpted the armor from Sculpey clay.  I wish I had one of Master Gunzz's Master Chief casted figures!  Were you able to get one?  He never got back to me on them.   :-\
        - The Han Solo was actually just the original VOTC figure, I just put him there for scale purposes  ;).  I do highly recommend putting the Saga 2 Carkoon head on the new VSTC Endor Han body - it looks much better.

HunterofThePegs - Thanks man!  The Grunt is from Joyride Studio's 3" figure line (the figures that came in the 2 and 5-packs as well as the vehicles.  I think the grunt is pretty close in scale to Star Wars scale.
    - I'm not familiar with ESB: Infinities, is that one of those alternate storyline comics?

Yeah, it's an alternative retelling of ESB if Luke had died on Hoth. Boba Fett makes an appearence sans-helmet. It's published by Dark Horse, and is a pretty good read. (http://http://www.booksamillion.com/ncom/books?pid=1569719047&ad=FGLBKS)

Boba Fett with removable helmet looks fantastic.  This would be a very, very popular figure at retail.  I like how you darkened his armor a bit.

Thanks CHEWIE, I always appreciate your feedback.

Just a note though, the Jango Fett is actually "mini-bust" scale (1/6th, or 12" scale).  I made him from a bootleg Kaiyodo Boba Fett vinyl model (the same one I used to make the Boba Fett mini-bust).  He's about 6 inches tall.  It's no big deal, but I just thought I should clarify that  8).

Now I'm at a dilemma...do I finish off some more WIP customs or do I play Halo 2 for 5 hours...  The decisions I have to make when my girlfriend visits her grandparents for the weekend  :P

Both of these are really cool.

Mandalorian - What a name... Figg Urre... ha ha.  Great custom though what does this for me is the contrast of the blue and black on his outfit.  Very well put together and painted.

Constabulatory Officer - Pretty interesting design, though I don't know if I'd use that body for a clone... more of a bounty hunter type I think, but what you did with it still looks nice and very sharp.

Greg,
You know what a fan I am of your stuff and these are no exceptions.  The Mandalorian looks awesome.  I love the color combo, the removable helmet from glassman is just awesome with that Bbi head too!  The use of the Djas Puhr holsters is one of the best Mandalorian designs I've seen.  What weapons are holstered in them?  The brown leather of the holsters really ties this character into the movie Fetts-well done!

THe clone constable looks awesome!  I love the idea and the use of the guard armor with the brown gear straps looks fantastic!  Perhaps a removable helmet wit hclone head would make this custom even better.  I LOVE the E2 clone helmet on this figure.  Makes it feel like he's really in the galactic mix.  Great paint work!

WOW, an update from you this fast?
I guess having you gone and not updating makes it seem incredible.

the mando is just bad ass man, He has perfect articulation. Great paint scheme, and looks like a perfect mando.

The clone looks cool, so hes like a MP I like the idea, that he wouldnt have much gear, becuase hes not standard military.

Greg, glad you listened to me :)  I think the update is great.  The Mando looks outstanding.  I think the contrast between the colors is great.  I had to do a double take when I saw your recipe, I wanted to see how the Joe arms fit with the body.

I really like the Royal guard figure and articulation.  Its a nice update with the clone paint scheme.  However, I think the helmet looks a little too big.  I know that its a custom that was put together with spare parts.

The Clone officer works suprisingly well- I can envision him as an Intelligence guy or something. The shins look a little off- maybe make them smooth to look more like the regular shins. Boba Fett looks good- if only I could find a VOTC Fett at a decent price so I could get into some Mando customs.

Keep up the great work.

Well, I followed Brent's advice and worked on some customs on Saturday ;)

Here is a custom Mandalorian:

Figg Urre

Parts Used:
Head: BBi Elite Force figure
Torso: Saga2 Boba Fett
Arms: G.I. Joe Snake Eyes
Legs: Saga2 AT-AT Driver
Lower legs: G.I. Joe Iron Grenadier
Helmet: Glassman Cast

8) very nice meshing of parts!  Really dig the paint job on him and the head is original.  sly look on his face.
:( maybe too many colors making it look busy
:P someone do a Mandalore!

Clone Constabulatory Officer:

Parts Used:
Head: AotC Clone Trooper
Rest: ROTS Royal Guard

8) nice original look to the oft-underlooked e2 clone.
:( needs more white on the legs and arms to me.  gauntlets and boots perhaps.
:P battle damage!  :)

Questions/Comments/Advice always appreciated!

Thanks Rolla, and I love your grading system  ;D

EDIT:
Luke isn't really a custom, but I don't really post in other threads...

Here is my "Endor" Sideshow Luke

Han and Scout used upgraded to super-articulated bodies and Sideshow Luke received Hasbro's Luke on Speeder Bike Poncho and helmet.  The helmet is a bit too big, but it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would (considering how large Hasbro's Luke's head is)

That pancho looks great on the Sideshow Luke.  The belt could use to be made a bit tighter around the waist, but I think it's a great match.

Wait a minute! These aren't Micromen!  :o Where are your latest microman customs? You got me addicted to these things. Where's yours???  >:(    ;)

Anyway, I really like the cleaness of the Clone Constabulatory Officer.  Very simple and effective. That side show luke looks great in his new poncho. Too bad he has perment suprised look on his face.

Excellent set of updates Greg!

Figg Urre- Excellent looking Mando. The Joe parts meld with the SW perfectly and it has a very SW-ish feel to it. Glassman's helmet cast really is great. Great use of the Djas holsters they are still some of my favorites. I think the drybrushing might look a little better if it had been done in a white or grey rather than the blue, but the technique and application still looks good. I like the name too. ;)

Clone Constabulatory Officer
- For such a simple construction you really made this look like a whole new figure. The white and black with the brown leather straps looks awesome. I may need to copy this one someday. I really like how you went with the AOTC clone design, it gets neglected a lot. It is nice to see someone hasn't forgotten it. It is nice to see someone hasn't forgotten it. I don't think 'Constabulatory' is a real word though. ;)

The Sideshow Endor Luke looks great too. Perhaps Leia's helmet is smaller than Luke's and would fit the Sideshow head better?

Boba Fett- I don’t think you can ever have to many Fett’s. This guy looks excellent, the corrected coolor looks great.

Master Chief- It is always good to see the Chief in plastic form. The paint app looks excellent. I’m glad you gave him the Microman treatment he deserves. You really are great at those MM customs.

Jango Bust- I don’t have any of the busts so I don’t really know what to compare that to, but it looks really great. You blended the Hasbro and GG parts flawlessly.

Oh BTW, I sent you a friend request on Halo, my name is Leviathan30. :)

Thanks guys  8)

Phruby - I made the Microman Master Chief, but I know what you mean.  It feels like it's been ages since I've knocked out a Star Wars Microman.  I've got tons of base figures now, so I'll try to get working on one.  I can't wait to see how your Scorch comes out, that'll probably be a lot easier than dremelling full figures.

Ryan - Thanks man!  I appreciate your comments  :).  I think you're right about "constabulatory".  My brain gets confused (I blame being a Canadian raised in the States since 1990  ;)  :P).
I would use the Endor Leia, but I was able to get the Hasbro Endor Luke for like $8 last year in anticipation of the Sideshow Luke and I haven't seen a loose/complete Endor Leia (without her speeder bike, the shipping kills the price if they include the speeder bike).

Ryan, what Gamertag did you send the friend request to?  I'll check and see if I received it.  My old name was "Gregorbian" but my new name is "Gregorbiotch" because my old name was under my friend's account and it expired.

I'm actually not sure, does the Leia use the same helmet or did they make a different one for her?

I'm not sure, I would imagine they would give her a smaller helmet because she was significantly smaller than Luke.  I never got the Endor Leia on Speederbike set, so I have no idea.  :-\  If anybody knows, I would appreciate it if they let me know.  It might be worth tracking an extra Endor Leia down just for the helmet.

great pics Greg, that luke kicks  :-X and your set up with Fett is wonderful.  but through no fault off your own what's up with luke's facial expression?  he looks like he just walked in on Han & Leia getting busy or something.

But the railing looked so real I thought it was a screen shot at first. ;)

The Luke looks good, but my only problem with it is his look of permanent surprise. He looks like he's thinking " Woah.... Truck."

I love the clone constable BTW. IF I could snag a few more royal guards I'd probably do one of these myself.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Great pics, man.  Which Fett is that?  It looks very nice.

Thanks Glorbes, the Fett is an "upgraded" Hasbro 12" VOTC Boba Fett.  I upgraded him onto a 12" "Dragon" body, repainted the gloves and attached the VOTC Fett's feet.  Pretty simple custom to do and I highly recommend trying it if you have the 12" VOTC Boba Fett figure.  You can get 12" base figures for very cheap at www.ToySoldierBrigade.com.

Here are some 12" Customs that I've been working on (based on Paul's, aka "Legolas77" aka "Slave1Jango" aka "Outrider", Rise of the Empire Theme)

Imperial Commander - Rise of the Empire

Damn Gregorgbian, these look like Sideshow figures!  Very well done, I can't get over how realistic the first guy looks... it really looks like a real person.  Excellent work... I don't know too much about 12" figures, so I all can say is how great these look.

 :)

Post by: Gregorbian on June 5, 2006, 10:06 PM
Thanks CHEWIE,

I hardly did anything to these guys  :-X

Imperial Commander - put the hasbro uniform on a Dragon body, painted the gloves black, made the suspenders and holster.  The only somewhat involved piece was the backpack which I made out of sculpey, although it took longer to cure in the oven than it did to "sculpt" and paint  :P

Imperial Field General - upgraded to a Dragon body, painted the gloves black and put on a WW2 German overcoat.  Easy as hell.

Stormtrooper - This has been a WiP for about a year now.  I upgraded to a Dragon body from the VotC Stormtrooper base figure.  I painted the gloves black and sculpted on the hand armor.  I had cut down the Dragon feet into "pegs" and inserted them into a hole that I had dremeled out of the VotC Stormtrooper shoes which were then glued in place.  I took some thread to tie the upper armor together.  All in all it was about 15 minutes of actual work, but for some reason it took me forever to get around to finishing this bastadge.

That's some real nice work there, Gregorbian! a couple of them may have been easy, but the Imperial Field General is my fave, and they all look great. Wonderful stuff; combining your talents and Slave1Jango's (as I origionally knew of him) ROTE theam. too cool. Nice work with the holsters too ;)

Grego - those look damn fine.  I'm with Chewie in that I've not looked at the 12" figure line very much.  I hear a lot of good things about the "Dragon" bodies so I'm assuming there is a significant upside to them.  Anyway, these figures look very professional!

The field commander looks like he is wearing lip gloss :o. but the rest looks good.

The field General is amazing he looks real, right out of the movie.

The stormie Looks good, how many points of articulation did he have on the VOTC body, and now with the Dragon body? The helmet is kinda funky like its out of proportion but besides that a great set of customs, keep it up Greg.

Excellent job on these Gregorbian. Looking at these makes me want to dig out my old Dragon customs and give them a whirl again.

Dragon bodies are perhaps the best 12 inch bodies on the market today. WIth some minor alterations on the heads most 12 in SW figs fit right onto the neck post with no gluing required.

The storm trooper is my fave of the bunch.

Gregorbian!!!  I've been craving an update from you in a while... and you more than delivered.

Luke - Super, just like Hasbro should make him.  Looks great... trouble getting the barrel roll arms to fit in the shoulder sockets?

Jango - Did you make this for the Group Project?  I think you've made the coolest Jango Fett I've ever seen, for real!  Damn, I wish Hasbro (or me) could make one half that good.  So how did you make the shoulder pads?

 :)

Thanks CHEWIE!

Luke - Super, just like Hasbro should make him.  Looks great... trouble getting the barrel roll arms to fit in the shoulder sockets?

The Barrel Roll arms actually fit perfectly, I didn't even have to dremel or anything.  The hardest part was actually swapping the Palpatine legs into the Luke Jedi's pelvis (since the Chancellor pelvis was incompatible with the Luke torso if I wanted to maintain articulation).  Still, assembly of this figure probably took about 10 minutes or so.

Quote

 :)

Yupo, I made this specifically for the Group Project out of the myriad Jangos I have lying around  ;).  Paul (Outrider) actually reminded me about this a few weeks ago, so I decided to get to work when I had some spare time yesterday.

I think I discovered my new technique for attaching shoulder pads.  I dremeled down the Jango Fett shoulder pads until they were relatively thin.  Then I cut a small rectangle of thin black pleather that I was using for some 12" customs (it had a white cotton backing that I shaved off with my X-Acto knife).  The rectangle was about 5 mm wide by about 2cm long.  I glued half of the strip to the underside of the shoulder pad, and the other half to the top of the shoulder.  Now he retains full shoulder movement and, I think, it looks a bit more accurate.

Hope this helps!  Thanks for the comments CHEWIE  ;D

Great job on those figures. I wish something could be done with Jango's leg stance though. He just looks akward standing straight. It's like he is hunched over with his legs spread. What if you used the boba fett upper legs and shave off the jango holsters. Then glue the holsters to boba's upper legs? Maybe that will make them more straight.

Greg whats up, we havn't heard from you in a while.

The Luke is off the hook. The articulation you crammed into a figure that had none to begin with is amazing.

The Jango. I would have done a VOTC top. His neck looks like its sunk in to his armor, which it shouldn't look like that. If you notice the amor is like cardboard thin. :-\ So if you can elevate his neck a bit it might look better. Also the legs bug me too. Maybe using VOTC legs and sanding the puches off, and adding the shaved armor on might have looked better.

Adam.

Ps. don't be a stranger. Get on AIM every once in a while. It's summer. ;)

Grego - great update and its good to hear from you again.  I'm not surprised that a Jango fett custom would bring you out of the woodwork!

I think both Jango and Luke are top notch.  I haven't really dove into trying a Luke custom - most of my stuff has been fan-fic or EU to support my Photonovel.  This figure makes me want to think about a Luke.

Terrific Update!

SA Jedi Luke> Great work fitting the Ball Joints so seemlessly. This one looks factory. Hasbro's going to really have to pull out all the stops to top  this one.

SA Jango Fett> Great looking Custom, I like the vivid paint job. The shoulders seem a little to wide though. If you have a cone shaped grinder for you dremel, I'd suggest Dremeling out sockets in the torso to better hide the Ball-jointed shoulders.

Keep up the gret work!
