Not sure if you guys all saw this, but incase it was interesting to any of you, it seemed worthy of a thread... the mockup pages look awesome. The only thing I can't stand about this kind of thing is that they're incomplete after a few months... I went ahead and backed it for now so I could get the tier I wanted before they sell out... it's jumped $9,000 in the 20 minutes between when I learned about it and when I posted this...

That's pretty cool. Not sure I'd buy a visual guide of just TVC figures though. Now something that chronicled ALL Star Wars figures, though probably impossible, I'd definitely buy.
-
I don't get it though...the Vintage Collection is still ongoing (I think). Are they planning on making future editions as well?

Probably eventually.

From their FAQ (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bluemilk/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-archive-edition-book/faqs):
Our goal is to cover every item released until the end of this year, 2019. That gives us a clean break with the 2010-2012 and 2018 & 2019 releases.
Many of the individuals who worked on the line from its inception have moved on to other projects or left Hasbro altogether, so waiting any longer to capture their stories could mean they'd be lost in time.
Additionally, each item will get a full-page treatment and we will have over 300 pages of content. Anything beyond our estimated page count would push the limit between quantity and quality. Our goal first and foremost is to deliver a premium quality book.
If the line continues into 2020 and beyond, we could potentially release a second volume picking up with the 2020 releases. If that did happen, we'd do something special for backers of this project, as a sign of our appreciation.
-
It seems like this project has some potential. And I honestly didn't realize that Derryl DePriest had moved on from Hasbro. I knew he had been promoted to a level above Star Wars brand management. But I had to credit him for an excellent run managing the Star Wars brand at Hasbro, including the launch of the Vintage Collection. He can definitely bring some unique insight to this book along with access to the people who were responsible for a lot of the great things TVC offered.
But as soon as I saw the announcement? I started shaking my head about the potential whining and bitching from certain segments of the online collecting community who have fetishized the Vintage Collection. And the fact that they have made the collecting community unpleasant at times really bothers me.

This thing was at $10k this morning when I first found it, it's at $46k now. It'll be funded by the evening.
-
Did this just start today? It's almost funded.
I like the idea of potential follow-up volumes being all-new material instead of a re-hash + new.
-
As far as I know yes, it just crossed $50k.
-
Pretty amazing how fast this thing is going. Had to order one myself.
-
$86k in a little over a day. They just announced some Stretch Goals... looks like if the book gets tons of orders they’ll keep adding content to it.
-
About to hit the 125k mark. I can't see it not hitting the 150k mark although it appears to be losing a little bit of steam.

I'm guessing it'll do what the barge did... huge upfront, lull for 3 weeks, good push at the end.
-
One week left, it's at $153k. If they get to $175k everyone gets a 3-coin set included...
Oh and one more thing... For those of you wondering about our $175,000 stretch goal, did you get the clue from its title (Sorry About the Mess )? We are thrilled to announce that all backers will receive a three (3) coin set featuring the Slave I, Jabba the Hutt and Jabba's Sail Barge. Not only do these coins tell the story of Han Solo's journey from The Empire Strikes Back to Return of the Jedi, but the Slave I, Jabba and Jabba's Barge have never had their own coins in either Kenner's POTF or Hasbro's 30th Anniversary lines. They'll fit in perfectly with your existing coin collection. We'll have more details and coin designs in a future update.
So, I suppose I'm hoping for a late surge.

I am. A digital copy would be fantastic.

Less than 19K and 3 days to go to unlock the last stretch goal. Fingers crossed!

$17k now. What’s the last stretch goal? I’m trying to look on my phone, but all I see in the updates is the coin set at $175k.

I think at $200k you get a digital version of the book as well.

Yes! And it crossed the 200K line with more than half a day to go!

I know I've only got a couple hours left at this point, but I'm still trying to decide if I want to get this...
-
Me too, Pete...
-
I decided to go ahead and do it, what the heck...
I've been thinking about downsizing my collection considerably, but the one thing I would keep would be all of the Vintage Collection stuff, starting with the VOTC stuff and forward. Maybe hold on to the 3.75" Black Series carded/boxed items too, but other than that, keep only the opened stuff and then moving forward, only collect openers of any line other than the Vintage Collection which I'll still get MOC/MIP/MIB items to keep. So this book would be a nice companion piece to all of that...

$231,249. Over 4x the initial ask! Congratulations to Blue Milk for coming up with a product that's enthused so many in the community. One stretch goal after another met. Looking forward to the chapter on concepts, the poster, the coins... man, all of it. Can't wait for the book to arrive. Btw, any secret prize for hitting $225k? :P

They did announce (to backers) that Left Coast Graphics will be producing a bookmark in the same vein as their Classic Kenner Vintage Stickers, but "with a TVC twist" - no pictures yet, and not really tied to the $225k goal either, but still a neat addition IMHO.
Something that made me chuckle this morning, on the activity tab of my kickstarter profile, for this project, it shows the percentage funded as 462% ;D

Sounds interesting. I'm going to have to scour my email or the kickstart page for that tidbit.
I wonder if they'll offer up the gold coins as a purchase option to US backers. I can just imagine variant hunters going nuts on the secondary market.
-
I did see that if you backed the book at legendary level or higher ($200 or above I figured) that they would include the gold set of cons as well.

A book about TVC is 462% funded, but Hasbro can't seem to get the actual figures in our hands. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for them to finally fix distribution.
-
It's been over a decade and distribution just keeps getting worse....I wouldn't hold your breath.
-
If you missed the kickstarter, the book is available for pre-order at BBTS (https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/101604).
-
It appears that people are receiving their books at long last! Looking forward to getting mine. I took your advice Jeff, and I ordered it through BBTS. I wonder when they're going to start fulfilling their orders?
-
I totally missed this campaign. It'd be nice if each figure had a section comparing the VTC version to previous releases (Vintage and Modern) like Scott's "Collect all 92" list. But overall the book still looks great. I am total sucker for the VTC style packaging art. Debating whether or not I want to drop $70 for it, but I'm leaning towards picking this up.
-
I don't know how many of you (if any) backed the kickstarter, I had missed out on that but luckily, Big Bad Toy Store purchased a bunch of these books and I preordered one there. Mine was delivered on Sunday and I am amazed at how well this is done!
There's great information on all the TVC figures, and vehicles all the way up to 2019, with a little look into 2020. I can already see another volume down the road to cover from 2020 on....and I will be there to get that one as well!
Still in stock at BBTS. (https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/101604)

I am tempted, but $70? Woof. My problem with these guides is that they are almost immediately out of date because new stuff keeps hitting. A book like this covering the original vintage line would be fantastic, but I kind of want to wait until they're done making TVC to buy a book that covers the TVC line. Or if it was electronic and included updates, that's the route I'd go. I'm sure it's an awesome book though - I've seen lots of praise for it elsewhere as well.
-
For whatever it’s worth I got mine a little over a week ago and it really is a very well done book.
-
I got mine last week. I’ve been able to read a few of the entries. And the details about some of the development process are great - a true insiders angle on how these figures go from concept to release.
