Uh, dumbass, I have the keys to this league.  You might want to be more selective in where you mock me.  Lest you find yourself with a roster comprised of:

Jason Allison
Eric Lindros
Tie Domi
Scott Lachance

and a host of other notables. :-*

I guess I'd better take Domi off my upcoming picks list.   :P

It's a shame Allison has had such troubles with injuries - he's a hell of a player.   :-\

Well, that's sort of cool, but I assure you, Vinny never would have made it back to you.

I know - I probably made a mistake not taking him with my 4th rounder - alas, I'm a big-time beginner here.

I wouldn't be sweating it too much Rob.  I think hockey this year is the biggest crap shoot in the world of fantasy.  Normally it's like any other sport - if you know what's going on, you have a good shot.  This year though, well, I've seen guys go already that could be stellar or a waste.  So many guys have changed teams and yeah, they're great players, but the chemistry is so important in hockey.

Geez, I just took an unsigned guy with my pick in the fifth round.  He might get signed (probably) but will he dog it if he doesn't get the contract he wants?  Maybe.

I don't see anyone clearly leading the pack at this point.

Right on - I think I'm doing okay so far, it's once we get to the later rounds and I become completely dependent on rankings for making my decisions that I might end up getting in trouble.

Yeah, that's what is so fun about fantasy sports - it's 30% drafting and 70% pure dumb luck.  Some things will happen that you have no control over...

For example, you might think that you've had a solid draft, but then for no reason your #1 pick hates his new (former Senator) teammate and sucks, your #3 pick throws out his back, and your #5 pick decides to play in Russia instead of signing a sub-par deal with Detroit.  You'd be in the crapper right quick!   ;)

Plus, we have no idea how much scoring will change this year - goalies seem important, but in the end you may be better off taking a goalie on a good team because they will get lots of wins instead of a shut-out goalie because shut-outs may not happen as frequently with the scoring changes.

In other words, I agree with Brent - it's a wide open crap-shoot at this point and the best you can hope for is dumb luck to go your way.   :)

I Colorado underachieves, you're screwed.  Fantasy tip: Never load up on guys from one team.

As for Datsyuk's "sub par deal", he's asking for superstar money after 1 good season.  I hope he doesn't get it.  He needs to prove himself before he gets paid like one of the big boys.

Re: Datsyuk: I agree Jason.  I still think he's a very good player and one that's going to have to seriously pick it up.  I love Yzerman as much as any hockey fan but methinks he maybe should have retired. :-\

Sorry, but as a hockey fan (and a Wings fan) I did not want to see one of the greatest players ever end his career by being helped off the ice after taking a puck in the eye.

I agree with that, he deserves better.  I just hope (and frankly expect) that he won't be a disappointment this season.  He certainly deserves a farewell tour.

I can think of a couple of other guys that ought to hang it up.  At least one I'm only half way joking when I say I expect him to be the first guy to die of his injuries on the ice - Jeremy Roenick.  Loved him as a Hawk (he and Larmer were great together); hated him as a Coyote (on principle) and the man has a huge mouth.  But honestly, quit before you die.
