Title: C-3PO and R2D2 2-Pack
Post by: DSJ™ on July 23, 2009, 12:48 PM
Hmmm, guess we really didn't start a new thread on these guys. Mostly mixed in the Parco Show (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=19403.15) thread.

Now the Medicom update:

So it sells for around $33 US. I bet we are looking at $150 on ebay.
Title: Re: C-3PO and R2D2 2-Pack
Post by: Jeff on July 23, 2009, 01:12 PM
I don't think it will get that high ($150).  It is a standard release (No.255), meaning it is an open order item and not an exclusive.

In theory, many etailers should be able to carry it beacuse of that, possibly even BBTS who usually has good luck on the open-order items like these.
Title: Re: C-3PO and R2D2 2-Pack
Post by: Outkast34 on July 23, 2009, 01:13 PM
It would be nice if BBTS got them for sure.
Title: Re: C-3PO and R2D2 2-Pack
Post by: BrentS on July 23, 2009, 02:09 PM
I would probably buy this as a "open order" item.    I wouldn't want to spend more than $50 for it.   My local connection in Japan has dried up so if it was a Medicom Collectors Club item, I wouldn't be getting it.

I wonder if places like NCSX would be getting it.

Post by: I Am Sith on July 23, 2009, 02:21 PM
Excellent, if this is available to US retailers like the Kubrick/Be@rbrick 2-packs have been, then I'll definitely pick it up.  If it was a Japan only exclusive then there's no way I would spend eBay-inflated prices to get it.

I saw the other day that the Vader/Stormtrooper Be@rbrick 2-pack was up for pre-order at BBTS, so maybe that's a sign that they will be trying to get this set too.

Nice!! I'd definetly hit this up if it was between 40-50$

hopefully ncs or bbts gets it!

Have these guys only ever come out in the Early bird set or were they re-released at some point?

R2D2 was in the early bird C3PO was in series 3. There have also been droids versions of both, R2D2 was carded in this style and C3PO was part of the 2007 boxset.

Then there are these, which use the same molds, but are, of course, different droids.   ;D

Found a slightly better picture on amiami (http://www.amiami.com/shop/ProductInfo/product_id/130461). R2 is different with only two legs, but C-3PO seems to be identical to the one from S3. Or am I missing something?

btw. Speaking of which, why the cough with the white version...  ???

I think this new C-3PO is more of a yellow gold color versus series 3's green/gold color.

Just me and Sir Real talking about the different versions of C3PO and R2D2 he had forgotten K3PO in his post. He's now added it ;)

I initially didn't include the all-white verison in my second "other droids" pic, then went back and updated the pic to include it after I saw Symposium's message.  Mainly for completeness, but also to sneakily avoid the fact that he was pointing out my oversight (and to jokingly get a rise out of him...  ;)  Sorry for the confusion.

EDIT: Symposium, ya beat me to it.   >:(  ;D

Preordering already for a November sale eh. The price is good tho but if something happens to the seller then you will be SOL with Paypal.

Yeah I certainly wouldn't buy anything pre-order on ebay. I hope that price is the norm come official release day.

Japan pre-order at Blister.jp (http://www.blister.jp/item12451.html)

They are charging 2500Yen = $26.40 USD

That's a real good sign that we won't be seeing $150 eBay prices (hopefully).

I think this new C-3PO is more of a yellow gold color versus series 3's green/gold color.

Interesting, I hadn't really noted the green tinge before but I'll have to look more closely.  Usually watching for Medicom to do some sort of obscure vintage nod, but if it has the greenish tinge, then it is like the Japanese POTF2 release of the "green" C-3PO.  Cool.

This is good news to see, HLJ has the C-3PO & R2-D2 2pcs set (http://www.hlj.com/product/MEDKUB-255) up on the site for 2,980 yen or about $32.15 US & about $37.10 CDN.

Please note:  HobbyLink Japan will begin accepting regular preorders for this item on or about September 1.

You truly are evil.  Let's tally up Kubie purchases for the last 30 days or so...

 - Basic 6 From Series 10 & Fett Series with common chase and L-Slot Chase $296 (Minus $15 for a Vintage Fett I sold)
 - Series 10 Chase Gree & Shadowtrooper $70
 - Mediacom Boxset #4 (minus Luke & Yoda)  $120
 - Shadow Stormtrooper $35
 - Tarkin $123
 - Luke & Leia Endor Sets (and a slare Lando Skiff Guard) $89
 - Early Bird and Max Rebo Sets $243
 - S1 ROTJ Fett and Han Trooper $141

Total = $1,100.  Holy crap.  That does not include about $100 on SDCC Minimates, BSG Minimates, and a pile of JL cases from Jeff to hold them all.   ???

I will have no problem passing on R2 and Threepio.  For now.

HLJ has carried SW Kuby's since Series 1, I have delt with them for a few Series untill we found a better place that sold them cheaper but alas that place is no longer around. RIP RoBBy.  :'(

I went back to HLJ for Series 10 & the Fett collection but other here went to NCS (http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/scan/MM=22c81332bc426a2115a13069eecc2477:20:29:10?mv_session_id=CIe9sqeZ&mv_pc=194&mv_more_ip=1&mv_nextpage=search_results) in the States closer to home & with good results.

You are from the UK so you will dinged with customs like I do in Canada but sometimes it's a hit & miss. Ya take your chances.

If you've just been buying from Ebay then most likely the seller has been reducing the price on the customs form. HLJ won't do that so anything over £18 will incur an £8 fee from the royal mail and whatever number customs dreams up.

Do customs charge automatically when I recieve my goods or do I have to contact them with the details of what I have imported. Sorry about the daft questions, I'm new to all this  ???

Bobajode it's all done automatically so you'll get a grey card from the postie with the royal mail fee and customs charge info on and then you go to the sorting office and pick it up.

But for the fact he's right I might.  Ultimately it is the crappy Canadian laws, not his fault.  Just hoping they misinterpret Yen again, as they have in the past.  It's a small enough box.

Can't speak about England, but here in Canada marking it as 'gift' may or may not have any meaning to the particular customs agent the item goes through.  And we have to pay our customs fees separately to get the item as it is held at the post office until we pay, or returned to seller 10-14 days later (not sure on the time frame).  (but don't worry, once the US implements socialized health care they'll start seeing customs fees too)

Well, I was on the fence about getting this, so I'm okay taking the risk.  My money should be protected from Paypal, so all I have to lose is pre-order status.  If it falls thru, I'll just continue to wait for a better deal once they're released.   ;)

Paypal protection is only good for 45 days that I know of, it's a November release so it might be towards the month end & cutting it close. Screw Paypal, if paid via CC then call the CC company for a charge back. I'm sure you will get the set tho, I just stay away from the bay preorders.

Just looked at ebay to see how many sets this seller had left. He must have quite a few because he has sold 17 since yesterday and still has more. Dare I say we might see even lower prices on this set. Could this be a trend for future 2 packs? Let's hope so.

My set has been waiting for a couple of days at the post office, and I was able to pick it up today. As discused earlyer  in the thread this new one has a more pronounced gold color, and the pupils are noticeably smaller.

Got my 2pk in the mail yesterday as well.  Pretty cool looking set.  Someone might have addressed this earlier, but the wires on R2's legs are also different colored from the EB R2.  EB R2's are neon yellow, while these are more of an orange/brown.  Its cool to have the variations, but you're not missing much if you have the prior versions of these two in my opinion.  I think the coolest thing about the set is the cool little premium black box they come in.  I might actually leave these two in the package and just put the package up on the wall for display.

Except for the 3rd leg on R2 of course.

Received my 3PO & R2 Set.  Looks very nice.  Glad to not have spent a lot of them though.

You mean the lack of a 3rd leg, right?  I like the EB 3-leg version better than 2-leg, but you're right - that is a noticable difference.  Damnit Jay, you're going to get me to open this 2pk aren't you?   >:(

I was tempted to buy this set just for the 2-legged R2-D2, but then I remembered that the upcoming Jabba Sail Barge R2-D2 is the same 2-legged R2 with a new head/bar rack.  I figure having that one when it comes out will be close enough for me.   ;)

I'd love it, if it ever happened around here.  I'm waiting on my R2/3PO and three other packages but no mail either yesterday or today and I'm doubting our mail carrier is going to work on New Year's Eve either.  ::)

Is your mailman on strike or is that just the normal Canadian timetable for mail right now?

Mine was shipped SAL (Surface/Air/Land) 7-45 days for that method plus sitting at customs, yeah... normal. EMS is the way to go.

Not normal, just an opportunistic federal employee taking a few extra vacation days without telling anyone  ::)

Could not find this anywhere but are C3 PO and R2 D2 different compared to SERIES 3 and THE EARLY BIRD r2?

thanks Jerry
