What a Newb, polish my shoes and make me some coffee, a little cream and sugar please :-*
Isn't there some Gn'R DVD's coming out, or is that not major?
Not on the list, but from September 16th, Monty Python's Holy Grail. It is priced at an outrageous $48 here. Is it similarly high in the US? If not, I'll try and pick it up when I'm in Cincinatti in October.
So Patty and I caught Pirates again yesterday, and I gotta say that I just love this movie. One of my absolute favorites! Any word on potential deleted scenes or anything like that in the DVD release?

Just announced from Buena Vista Home Entertainment is a December 2nd street date for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The second biggest hit of the year, this two-disc set comes complete with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, three audio commentaries with director Gore Verbinski and star Johnny Depp, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Keira Knightley and Jack Davenport, and writers Stuart Beattie, Ted Elliot & Terry Rossio and Jay Wolpert, the "An Epic At Sea: The Making of Pirates of the Caribbean" documentary, deleted scenes,a "Moonlight" scene progression, blooper reel, "Below Deck: An Interactive History Of Pirates" notes and a still gallery . Retail is $29.95.
I assume that this Battlestar Galactica series set doesn't include the original TV movie, right? Also, can't quite recall right now, but did BG only run for just one season, and therefore this set is the whole shebang? Or was there a second season as well? ...and I'm not talking about that revised Galactica '80, or whatever that crap was! :P Just the original.
Universal has announced the DVD release of Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Epic Series as a 6-disc box set for release on 10/21 (SRP $119.98). All 24 episodes of the series are being presented in the original full frame video (digitally remastered for superior quality) and in their original broadcast order, with audio available in the original 2.0 mono as well as newly remixed Dolby Digital 5.1. The set will include never-before-seen footage, along with new interviews with series creator Glen A. Larson and series stars' Richard Hatch, Terry Carter and Anne Lockhart.
As if that wasn't enough, Battlestar Galactica: The Original Feature Film is also being re-released on DVD the same day (SRP $19.98). It will also include a sneak preview of the new Sci-Fi mini-series retelling of the film's story. Sadly, it looks suspiciously like this will be the same non-anamorphic widescreen film transfer as before, but we've not yet been able to confirm this.
I normally use videoeta.com (http://www.videoeta.com/month_video.html?month=9&year=2003). They include a ton of indie releases, and stuff that you may think that other people aren't interested in and the like.
Twin Peaks: Season 1 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JKES/qid=1063550685/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/102-7925814-1752129?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846) is out 9/24
Theres a Wes Craven Collection due 10/7 that includes
Shocker, People Under the Stairs, and the Serpent and the Rainbow. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000AOX0I/qid=1063550767/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-7925814-1752129?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846)
Then there is of course the John Carpenter Collection (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000AOX0G/qid=1063550863/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-7925814-1752129?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846) featuring The Thing, Prince of Darkness, and They Live. They Live being the biggie. Of course all these will be sold seperately.
Somewhere in the mix, Transformers Season 2, The Incredible Hulk TV Series, and a Gremlins Trilogy are due in a months time as well.
Twin Peaks Season 1 has been out for over a year now...
I was looking at last years releases, sorry.
You know, it seems like we go through this about once a year. But, at the risk of inducing lots of eye rolling out there, here we go again. We've heard from a number of industry sources we trust (and who have proven their reliability in the past) in the last few weeks. They're reporting that Lucasfilm is seriously considering releasing the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD late next year. In fact, our information indicates that some work is already under way toward a 4th Qtr, 2004 release. Word is that Lucasfilm is pleased with the format of The Adventures of Indiana Jones: The Complete DVD Movie Collection they're releasing on 10/21 in conjunction with Paramount - so pleased, in fact, that they're planning to use the same format to release the classic Star Wars films. This would presumably mean a 4-disc set, with a disc for each film and a fourth disc of special edition materials for all three films. It would certainly make sense. First, it would be a great way to get a buzz going into early 2005, when the final film, Episode III, is set to arrive in theaters. Also, Lucasfilm has said in the past that there aren't a lot of behind-the-scenes materials available for the original films, so having a single bonus disc of extras (as opposed to three) would make life easier for them.
Interestingly, as we were working to learn more about this from our sources, we received an e-mail from a Bits reader about a DVD column on the BBC's film site (slide down the page to near the bottom). It seems that Channel.com (sort of a U.K. version of Columbia House, run by Universal) listed the original Star Wars Trilogy as coming to DVD in 2004 in their latest brochure to members.
Of course, we've certainly heard similar reports many times in the past, so we encourage you to take this information with a large dose of salt. Only time will tell if this is... FINALLY... the real deal. At the recent DVD conference in L.A., I spoke with Lucasfilm's Jim Ward, who predictably wouldn't discuss the DVD release plan for the original Star Wars films, other than to say that they WOULD be released on DVD at some point. He did, however, say that Episode III was being well documented for DVD, and he once again noted that the original theatrical versions of these films no longer exist - the new SEs are George's ultimate vision for these films.
Frankly, we're really looking forward to these films being released on DVD... if only so we don't have to keep reporting on them here! In any case, THIS is the extent of what we know, so please don't bombard us with a lot of questions. You know as much as we do at this point. When we learn more, we'll post it here.
Stay tuned...
All right, gang: From the RUMOR MILL at The Digital Bits:

Pearl Jam DVD Spotlights New York Show
Pearl Jam is eschewing a comprehensive DVD of its 2003 Riot Act tour in favor of spotlighting one particularly noteworthy show from the trek. The double-disc "Live at the Garden," capturing the band's July 8 performance at New York's Madison Square Garden, will arrive Nov. 11 via Epic. On the same day, the label will issue a long-in-the-works set of rarities, although no information on that collection has yet been confirmed.
The sold-out July 8 show came at the tail end of the three-month tour and found Pearl Jam unleashing a 30-song, nearly three-hour set. Highlights included a guest appearance by Ben Harper on "Daughter" and "Indifference," the band's only third-ever performance of the pre-Pearl Jam act Mother Love Bone's "Crown of Thorns" and a furious run through the Who's "Baba O'Riley" with all of the arena lights turned on.
The concert went on for so long that Pearl Jam faced a several thousand dollar fine for breaking an 11 p.m. curfew. Frontman Eddie Vedder told the crowd that the stage floor was literally shaking from the audience volume, a feat venue officials said had only ever happened at performances by Bruce Springsteen, the Grateful Dead and Iron Maiden. The venue later waived the curfew violation fine.
Bonus features on the DVD include a 5.1 audio mix and a video for the controversial "Riot Act" track "Bu$hleaguer." "Live at the Garden" was shot by Liz Burns, Steve Gordon and Kevin Shuss, the same team that collaborated on the 2000 tour DVD "Touring Band 2000."
As previously reported, Pearl Jam will return to the concert stage Oct. 25 at Neil Young's annual Bridge School Benefit outside of San Francisco.
Here is the "Live at the Garden" track list:
"Love Boat Captain"
"Last Exit"
"Save You"
"Green Disease"
"In My Tree"
"Cropduster"
"Even Flow"
"Gimme Some Truth"
"I Am Mine"
"Low Light"
"Faithfull"
"Wishlist"
"Lukin"
"Grievance"
"1/2 Full"
"Black"
"Spin The Black Circle"
"Rearviewmirror"
"You Are"
"Thumbing My Way"
"Daughter" (with Ben Harper)
"Crown of Thorns"
"Breath"
"Better Man"
"Do the Evolution"
"Crazy Mary"
"Indifference" (with Ben Harper)
"Sonic Reducer" (with the Buzzcocks' Tony Barber)
"Baba O'Riley"
"Yellow Ledbetter"
Keep the info flowing V, and it was nice catching you in "that other forum section" yesterday for once! :-* :P
1) The last 2 movies were horrible, no matter how many extras you can include for it.
2) They have all been released independently.
3) They have all been released in a Japanese Commemorative Set
4) They have all been released in a US "Legacy" set.
5) There is apparently an Alien 5 in the works. . .
. . .which means there will never be a "defintive" Aliens set.
Too many down sides to consider when purchasing such a hefty set for a franchise that is getting progressively worse, just for a couple of extra discs.
Especially whatever Fincher does to Alien 3. No matter what, the crew can't not use weapons in the original release, then magically be shown toting, so ultimately it can't measure up to 1,2, or 4.
The article includes some more news on the Live at the Garden DVD as well:
The DVD also has a montage accompanying the song "Fortunate Son," with guest performances from ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, Sleater-Kinney, Steve Earle, former PJ drummer Jack Irons, Ben Harper, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, Idlewild and the Buzzcocks.
A live video for "Bushleaguer," shot at various performances on the group's 2003 Riot Act world tour, is included, as are live outtakes set to the song "Down" and a "Matt Cam" drummer's-eye view of the show, shot from behind the kit of Matt Cameron.

Alrighty, I'm convinced. Is there a MSRP on the Alien set yet? It'll be a Christmas wishlist piece.

B&M wise, I think Circuit City is the best at $14.99 (it might be $15.99, but still the cheapest). That's where I'm heading after work. Its probably going to be hit or miss, because the Circuit City near me sucks when it comes to DVD releases.
Well since this is a topic on DVD's, I thought I would share with you my new toy I picked up yesterday.

I'll be at Best Buy right after work on Tuesday. Got a gift certificate to use and everything for my Matrix Reloaded DVD. I'm wondering what the bonus features are going to be like.
Own all 3 Indiana Jones movies for the first time on DVD, a 4th bonus DVD Making The Trilogy, PLUS a Best Buy Exclusive 5th DVD Raiders Of The Lost Ark Classic Featurette. This disc has rarely-seen footage and exclusive scenes featuring the cast and crew of this beloved film. While supplies last. Minimum 250 per store. No rainchecks.
Wal-Mart: ???
-As always, no idea on what their "official" price will be, but I would expect them to come in at less than $14.99, to beat Target and Circuit.
Get a box of 'Alien' films on DVD
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY
The Alien invasion will go beyond theaters when a monstrous nine-disc Alien Quadrilogy box set arrives Dec. 2.
Over the weekend, Alien returned to theaters on 347 screens, bringing in a modest $1.04 million. The re-release was designed to draw attention to next month's DVD release of the original movie that made Sigourney Weaver a star in 1979, plus its three sequels.
The $99.98 set includes versions of the four Alien films not yet seen on home video:
•Alien can be watched in the original version or the new director's cut now playing in theaters.
• The 1986 sequel, Aliens, is available on DVD for the first time, with director James Cameron's special edition as well.
• Alien 3 (1992) has more than 30 minutes of new footage.
•Alien Resurrection (1997) has alternate opening and ending scenes.
Each movie also has its own accompanying disc of extras, and the ninth disc has a new interview with Alien director Ridley Scott. Scott and Weaver, who starred in all four films, also take part in a new commentary on the film.
One creature feature sure to pique fan interest: A multi-angle study of the "chest-buster scene," in which a hatched alien emerges from the stomach of Kane (John Hurt).
"Some of the background anecdotes and information about the shoot and setup — particularly (actress) Veronica Cartwright's reflection on the shock of getting soaked in jets of blood — are the type of thing that really sets DVD apart as an entertainment format," says Peter Staddon, senior vice president of marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
In total, the Alien Quadrilogy set has about 45 hours of previously unseen material. On Jan. 6, the films will be available individually on DVD for $26.98 each.

i can't wait to get that alien box set. although from what i've seen so far, it's only available as a fullscreen version? if that's the case, then the hell with it. i have the legacy box set, and i'm definitely a widescreen kinda guy.
aqua teen hunger force (which wasn't listed on your, uhmm... list)
yeah, i kinda wondered why on the fox website it has the box set listed as p&s only... didn't make any sense to me. i thought the same thing you did... fox would be crazy to release this set as only p&s... as a matter of fact, if you go to the link to the fox website, it says "full frame"

kinda had me a little confused...
i'm also pretty stoked about:
space ghost coast to coast
Question for you guys... I really wanna pick up X2 upon release... But will there be a 2.5 version? I don't wanna buy it if it'll be upgraded in a couple of months.
Didn't write this down the other day, but Frye's still has the lowest price on the non-gift set extended version for 23.99 so follow my above advice to save a little cash if you want to "normal" extended version. I think that is the lowest price out there.
If somehow my wife is secretly reading these forums...Buy the LOTR:TTT set today or later this week, that way you can buy more presents for me down the road. Thanks dear :-*

Hey, get her to sign up! We need more guys' wives to sign up and particpate here on the boards. . .

'Course, Frye's is a regional chain, too, limited to a few southwestern states, I believe, so that's not going to do a whole lot of good for the folks here who don't have a Frye's in their area. . .
Confession time...I've never seen a single Aliens movie :(
With that said, what should I do, I've fairly certain I'd enjoy them, so should I look at picking up the full set in December or wait until January and only get whichever one is "best"?
And on another note, I miss you Virex, but not in a gay way.
Well maybe a little bit :-X
Are you guys seeing the two packs with Episodes I & II in them down there? I hadn't seen these prior to a couple of weeks ago. A few bucks savings, but I haven't seen anything but wrong screen versions.
...guess what i'm doing tomorrow?? ;D
"19 deleted and alternate scenes" - or so it says on the back of the thing.
just an fyi - i copied and pasted that info from amazon... you didn't think i would use the caps key, did you?? :D
Funny, was just diving into the thread to post this very thing. Ordered Alien Quad from DDD too, its the best price BY FAR, if you use the coupons. It was 74.99 at Target this afternoon.
Re: Pirates - Target is cheapest, but they put their DAMN stickers on the back of the package, and this disc has an unshrinkwrapped cardboard outer sleave. So, the Target stickers are stuck onto it. Those that are anal about package presentation might want to hit BB or CC instead and pay the extra buck for a good case.

There's a factory sticker on the outer sleeve too, presumably you guys have it as well. It reads First Time on DVD!. Well duh ::) >:(
You know, I heard that Costco stores are selling the Quadrilogy for $61.99 this week. I don't have them here, but that's a pretty good deal for a B & M store, and worthy of checking out if you're interested in the Quad and have Costcos in your area.
I'm still working out specifics, but it looks like I can work a 110" motorized screen in the new place.
And don't forget everybody - that Gigli is due out next Tuesday, so get your $20 ready! 8)This is hitting retail at $20? [nelson laugh]

Oddly enough I just read that article this evening and thought of you, and now you post it.
I'm turning into that freaky European >:(
And when can I get my grubby mitts on the ROTK EE?!? 8)
Forgive me if I missed this along the way somewhere Matt, but when the hell are they going to release a more attractive and comprehensive package (ala "Collector's Edition") for both the Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I've been holding off on picking up those two titles due to how cheap they look and bare-bones they are...
Anything on tap for them?
And when can I get my grubby mitts on the ROTK EE?!? 8)
It's official folks! As we reported last week, Universal studios will release Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List on 3/9 (SRP $26.98). The single-disc set will be packaged in both Digipak and keep case packaging (the disc will be DVD-18 - dual sided, dual layered). Separate anamorphic widescreen and full frame versions will be available, both with audio in English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, as well as English DTS 5.1 audio (along with English captions and French and Spanish subtitles). To our knowledge, there will be no extras on this DVD. There will also be a gift set version available (SRP $79.98) that will include the anamorphic widescreen version of the DVD along with a coffee table book, the CD soundtrack, a senitype cell and a certificate of authenticity. Reportedly, this title is being co-marketed with the DVD release of the Steven Spielberg-produced TV miniseries Broken Silence, although we have no details yet on that. Here's a look at the cover art and the gift set:
I'll add by saying that there are no known, official release dates for either the theatrical or extended DVDs for Return of the King. Like I mentioned above, I'm just assuming that they'll follow the August/November release pattern they've taken with the other two films, but based on rumors, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the theatrical version (at least) released earlier.
Well, a couple observations here... I think the prior two LOTR films had their EE DVD release dates in November to get the buzz going again for the next film which was released each December. But since there won't be another film next year, maybe they'll bump up the release schedule a little this time around.
There's also the possibility that ROTK could see a brief limited run again right around Oscar time too... 8)
Adam also pointed out an interesting little blurb on the potential LOTR boxset on tap, so that's definitely got me rather intrigued as well. So go dig up some juicy news on that one, would ya'?! I'll be right here waiting... :-*
Willy Wonka 30th Anniversary DVD you say...? Is that just the regular one I see everywhere, with the cheapo cardboard cover? I'd assume it is, since I don't think I've ever seen anything other than that one. I guess I just don't think too much of it based on it's appearance. Not the fancy "Collector's Edition" I'm accustomed to looking for... But if you're suggesting not to judge this book by it's cover, I guess I'll have another looksee.
Burton's version with Johnny Depp certainly sounds cool too! I wonder what Tim will dream up with for the Oompa Loompas, which always scared the living sh!t out of me in the original (still do). They're right up there with the Land of the Lost sleestack and Jaws for freakiest nightmarish creatures from my childhood... :'(
Wizard of Oz deserves better treatment than the version that's on the market right now. I think I'll wait a little longer to see if anything gets mentioned for it, before I drop a potentially wasted $15 on a soon to be obselete DVD.
I continue to wait patiently for the Top Gun Special Edition set though... :-\ Still no firmer date on that one yet, eh? Or Titanic?
Well, based on the movie previews from last night's LOTR-ROTK previews you can probably add the following to the late 2004 list:
Harry Potter ___________
Shrek 2
There were a few other previews, none too notable, though Ashton Kutcher seems to have a role landed where he has an IQ above 3.
he plays a self absorbed underwear model. . .
(snip)
His I.Q. in this movie is a subjective thing. Or maybe not, since he is playing a male model. . .
OK, first Duel is coming, then its not & now it is (sorta)
& now Blade Runner is up in the air! WTF!
Is that Blade Runner the theater release? If it is, look out! ;D
Also, what do we know about Battlestar Galactica?

As far as LOTR and Matrix go, I am waiting to see what the ultimate and inevitable boxed sets bring. I am hoping to just get the 87 disc set of the former and probably the 8 disc set of the latter.

There have been rumors about a new Blade Runner disc for, literally, years. At least two or three. Apparently, it's tied up in "legal issues". However, Ridley Scott is a "friend of the format" (see Alien Quadrilogy, Black Hawk Down (3-disc set), Gladiator, Legend: Ultimate Edition, etc.), and something will come out eventually, and it will be great, the be-all, end-all, for Blade Runner fans, I'm sure.
We may finally have some reason why Warner Bros' long-planned Blade Runner Special Edition has been put on an indefinite delay. An article in this past Sunday's New York Times Art and Leisure section focused on why some classic films can be delayed from ever reaching the DVD market. In some cases, it may be something as simple as film elements being stored in mismarked film cans. Other times, it may be that because of constant corporate mergers and turnarounds, many studios aren't always sure of what they own. Often, however, it's money squabbles and legal hurdles which can put the kibosh on new disc releases. And unfortunately, this seems to be the case with Ridley Scott's futuristic masterpiece.
The ownership issues with Blade Runner are long and confusing, so I'll spare you the ugly details. But, in a nutshell, Warner Bros only has theatrical and home video distribution rights for the 1992 "Director's Cut" version of the film. The elaborate three-disc special edition plans on including this version, as well as the original 1982 cut along with a new definitive Director's Recut. But producer Jerry Perenchio, who apparently controls the original negative, hasn't signed off on any of this. And until some agreement can be reached, we'll just have to keep waiting for our ultimate BR box set.
I went to Circuit City, decided to buy Reservoir Dogs - I've never seen it but I was told if I like Goodfellas, Scarface, etc; then I'd like Res. Dogs. Naturally, Circuit City didn't have it.
So, I bought the 2-disc Alien DVD. Very crisp. I haven't watched but about 30 minutes of the theatrical release, and have yet to even look at the second disc or the Director's Cut or whatever it is.
Target just price dropped "Reservoir Dogs" to $9.99 about a week and a half ago. Have at it.I went to Circuit City, decided to buy Reservoir Dogs - I've never seen it but I was told if I like Goodfellas, Scarface, etc; then I'd like Res. Dogs. Naturally, Circuit City didn't have it.
Try Target for Reservoir Dogs, Brad. I believe they recently had a price drop on it so it should be around $15.
Ill do you one better on Reservoir Dogs. www.deepdiscountdvd.com has all the different covers at $7.97 with free shipping ;)

The anticipation for this ROTK EE DVD almost makes me horny. Almost... Damn the long wait though! :'(
That wasn't too much info, was it? You guys feel the same, right?

But in the interest of helping as many of you find copies of the Ed Wood: Special Edition as possible, without having to buy it on eBay for $100+ from would-be profiteers (which is just plain wrong), we wanted to update you on where readers are finding it. Supposedly, Borders and Blockbuster have put it up for sale, along with many Costco locations (and probably other warehouse retailers as well). We've had readers tell us that a few Best Buys locations have also made it available for sale. Some Fred Meyer store locations apparently have it available, and many of those who were smart enough to pre-order the disc on Amazon are being told via e-mail that their discs have shipped. The message is that the disc is out there, and you should act fast if you want it.
FEB. 2 | Buena Vista Home Entertainment has pulled the planned Feb. 3 release of its DVD special edition of Ed Wood, leaving some retailers stuck with product to return and others wondering why the title was yanked so close to street date.
"Distribution dates get changed all the time," a BVHE spokesman said, adding that the studio is looking for a better date to release the DVD.
Trans World Entertainment's executive VP of merchandising, marketing and inventory management Fred Fox said he had been told the title was pulled because of a rights issue.
Another source told VB that director Tim Burton was unhappy with the DVD extras. Burton's publicist could not be reached for comment by press time.
Buena Vista said the DVD release is being postponed, not canceled, and that no changes are expected on the disc, which includes a
commentary by Burton and actor Martin Landau, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage hosted by actor Johnny Depp, a cross-dressing retrospective and a featurette.
Musicland Stores and its Suncoast Motion Picture Company had begun taking preorders on the title and some had already received product, which they were told to return, a spokeswoman said. Trans World's FYE stores had also received the DVDs, said Fox.
Buena Vista wasn't able to recall all copies. On eBay, sellers were advertising the DVDs as recalled and pricing them as high as $150.
It's the second time the Ed Wood DVD has been delayed. It was first scheduled for release in late 2002.
Virex, do you run any region-free DVD players or drives? I'm honestly looking forward more to the Japanese Kill Bill release...
They're pretty good about responding to emails (in English) and it might be worth asking about the head.

Timeline--that came out around Thanksgiving, no? Based off the typical six-month window, that would put it around May sometime, probably. And generally, the studios will announce their DVDs around two-to-three months before their release date. (They're just now announcing the stuff for late March to early/mid-April).
So, I'll say somewhere around mid-April to mid-May, and, just for sh!ts and giggles, I'll say April 27th--and when they announce it, we'll see how close I was.
:-\
Or as the HTF and DVDTalk posters like to say - "sell us back our childhoods." ::)

When the hell's the Extended Edition coming?!?
Who cares...? ::)
When the hell's the Extended Edition coming?!? :-*
your so sure of yourself, arent you virex.
damn Gilligan is hella dumb, i cant stand him!
We're also told that a Showgirls: VIP Edition is in the cooker for summer release with tons of... shall we say fascinating... extras (and a new anamorphic widescreen transfer).
Slightly OT, but what sites do you guys recommend going to for DVD news? Mainly reviews?
In the mail I am awaiting Once Upon A Time In China Trilogy. I remember a friend recommending the first movie to me years ago, I was blown away by the fight scenes. It looks as thought the Waichowski Brothers saw this flick to.
I was amazed when I saw they had a Trilogy for sale for less then $25. Who else has seen any of the series?
I think they look ok. But I'm a big stickler for uniform packaging, and this sure doesn't go with the E1-E2 cases or design.
I'd prefer a more standard box ala Indy.
I know what you mean, Virex! 8)
Saw Schindler's List was $17.99 at Best Buy this week, not really interested in picking it up...seing it once was enough for me. Nothing against anything and its a great wonderfully powerful movie, I just don't feel the need to watch it again :-[
Yep, both are available. I haven't seen Sandlot, but it looks like its 2:35:1 anamorphic widescreen, and cheap to boot - 11.09 at Dvdempire.com. I have the Natural disc, and it's not too shabby at all.
No kidding about The Jerk! I won't touch that POS they released. There's a bunch of Universal comedies that need to be revisited. Top of my list is Happy Gilmore.
Ooh, didn't know about the game. Cool! That should be good.
Were the Jack shows shown in widescreen on Cartoon Network? All I see is the 4:3 release for DVD. It looks like DVDsoon.com has the best online prices right now according to dvdpricesearch.com. Personally I'm wagering it can be had for 19.99 on sale on the release date.
. . .I didn't want to pollute Virex's useful thread. . .
I went there a few weeks ago to score GI Joe Season 1 Part 1, and all I found was the miniseries DVD and idiot employees saying 'that's the only one we got.' Still to this day haven't found it, but I lost interest anyway.
Lots of cool news from The Digital Bits today:
"And Warner will release The Dukes of Hazzard: The Complete First Season on 6/1."
"It might not be the ultimate "überset" mentioned in yesterday's post, but you WILL be able to buy the complete theatrical edition of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy as a 6-disc DVD set from New Line on May 25th (SRP $89.98)."
There's a transcript up at theDigitalBits from the WB chat with the brownnosing HTF earlier this week:
Good release news amidst people kissing WB rears (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/030904htfchat.html)
[warnerbros] So, two hours & ten minutes, and no nasty comments about snappers? What's going on with you folks]? :)
I see a "MatthewB" in that chat transcript. Anyone we know? 8)
Can you imagine if Hasbro did a chat like that? That would be absolutely mind boggling...
Yeah those Hasbro chats were pretty neat (I think there were 2 of them), they announced Kabe and Muftak in one of those chats

I never, ever, listen to people that want the good old days back. The good old days were when this was a small community. It is no longer small and compared to the unhappy members, we have many happy ones.
If the forum isn't for you, there are several other forums out there and they are all run by excellent webmasters. You'll be happier, I'll be happier and the community will be happier.
Sorry--not me. My birthday's in November...
Dumbasses refuse to speak to us anymore...
Holy sh!t--TV on DVD has exploded over the past couple of years, most definitely. I think the release of the first Simpsons set back in 2001 really got the ball rolling there. Once Mr. Belvedere: The Complete First Season comes out, I'm seriously re-evaluating the hobby.
Columbia TriStar will release the first season of Who's The Boss on June 8th. Details are slim right now, but we can tell you the set will include all 22 episodes from the 84-85 season, as well as some featurettes contains the funniest moments from various characters.
Yeah I saw that in the ad yesterday...Here they all are:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat26400050017&type=category
I think I'll pick up:
Forrest Gump
Sandlot
Edward Scissorhands
And either Popeye or Major League
MGM Home Entertainment will at long last release the made-for-TV event The Day After onto DVD on May 18th. This controversial and truly frightening 1983 telefilm follows the events leading up to and following a devastating nuclear attack on the United States by the Soviet Union. The disc is expected to arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic transfer of the 126-minute cut, Dolby Digital 2.0 audio and a newly created behind-the-scenes featurette. Not included on this disc, however, is the terrific audio commentary with director Nicholas Meyer that appeared on the Image Entertainment special edition laserdisc. Retail is $27.98.
Final Star Wars Trilogy DVD packaging art is up at the Official Site's Hyperspace section.
BEST OF ALL:
- "Each of the four discs in the set will have its own dedicated packaging, designed to fit seamlessly on the shelf with the Star Wars DVDs already in your collection. "
It's a case with 4 keepcases inside! ;D Awesome.
Up next is the direct-to-DVD sequel Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (and no, Paul Verhoeven is not back on board). Presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, extras include an audio commentary with the filmmaking team, the "From Green Screen to Silver Screen" and "Inside the Federation" featurettes, a still gallery and bonus trailers. Retail will list for $24.95.
Anyone else a sucker for this crap?
this movie, which, by all odds, has to be a GIANT STEAMING PILE. Anyone else a sucker for this crap?
For fellow children of the 80's, the definitive Cold War nuke TV movie finally has a DVD release, according to DavisDVD.com:QuoteMGM Home Entertainment will at long last release the made-for-TV event The Day After onto DVD on May 18th. Gave me the willies. :)
Me stealy image from DavisDVD: (http://www.davisdvd.com/images/covers/dayafter.jpg)
WOW!! Looks like the film has some pretty good effects. Gonna have to see it, I got the willies by just looking at the cover and reading the summary! :oDefinitely NOT a child of the 80's
If Dina Meyer gets butt-nekkid again, I'm all over it! 8)
BTW, what's the difference(s) between the Special Edition Starship Troopers (original one), and the Superbit version? Is either one better than the other? More extras on the former, but better quality on the latter?
I've just got the cheapass bare bones crap version, and would like to upgrade to one of these some time soon.
...unless you're planning on setting up some 100" screen or something.
...and stealing yours! ;)

There’s a time for love and a time for living.
You take a chance and face the wind.
An open road and a road that’s hidden.
A brand new life around the bend.
There were times when I lost a dream or two.
Found the trail, and at the end was you.
There’s a path you take and a path untaken.
The choice is up to you my friend.
Nights are long but you’re on your way,
To a brand new life,
Brand new life,
Brand new life around the bend.

Cool...I wonder what PW is "up" to these days ???
Yeah, I shouldn't be complaining, since I'm not big on supplements to begin with, but if there was one sup feature I'd care for, it would be those scenes.
I won't even listen to the commentaries, except for maybe ROTJ, just to get mad at all involved for the downfall of the series.
I heard Wild Things was 9.95 at Circuit City this week. I'm kinda/sorta tempted, but people have been saying there's nothing redeeming about the disc other than the two (substantial) new, ahem, "features."
I'm cinemaddicted. :-\
I'm cinemaddicted. :-\
Isn't this some sort of Trademark or Copyright infringement?
That was an important DVDay--and you better believe that I looked and smelled great as I strolled into Best Buy as soon as they opened to get my fix for the DVDay.
And sadly Tuesday is now only known as "new release day" with mandatory Best Buy trips. God, somebody shoot us.
Please report back if you see some value in that Wild Things disc. I've resisted, amazinlgy. My only new movie this week is Master & Commander on D-VHS. Never seen it.
Big Fish is a movie the wife and I always wanted to check out when it was in theatres, but missed out on that. We are hoping to rent it sometime this weekend to see how it is, and maybe buy it if we enjoy it. It looked pretty good from the previews and comments I have seen on it.
picked this up today (along with big fish)
even though i bought the universal stuff when it was released a few years ago, i just had to get this. not bad - $60 in best buy gets you 14 classic b&w flicks and 3 busts.
I'm cinemaddicted. :-\
Isn't this some sort of Trademark or Copyright infringement?
I don't know.
People think it's easy to be a cinemaddict, but they don't realize just how DVDifficult a life it really is. There are times when you go on a binge, spending $140 at Deep Discount, but then there are the horrible, horrible withdrawals you go through during the slow weeks. It's awful.
It's become the most important thing in my life--watching my DVDs on my 27" Sanyo, bought from Wal-Mart, through my PlayStation 2--probably the greatest DVD player ever created. I'm a junkie. It's all I do all day--I'm just addicted to cinema. A cinemaddict. My cinemaddiction now comes before everything--friends, family, work--I don't even have a real job. It's even affected my personal hygiene. The last time I bathed myself was back in DVDecember, the day when Pirates of the Caribbean was released. That was an important DVDay--and you better believe that I looked and smelled great as I strolled into Best Buy as soon as they opened to get my fix for the DVDay.
I'm the black sheep of my family. I've shamed my friends. I can't look anyone in the eye anymore. They gave me this videotape to watch--it was an over-dubbing of that old public service announcement--"This is your brain. This is your brain on cinema." I watched it once, and threw it out, because it wasn't a DVD. They put a lot of work into having it made, and I threw the damn thing away.
I've tried everything to rid myself of this horrible, horrible DVDisease--12 step programs, cold turkey. I've even checked myself into DVDetox centers. Nothing seems to work.
I've heard my friends and family talking a few times--I think they might be planning an intervention once I hit 400 discs.
People think it's easy, being a cinemaddict, but take it from me: I wish to God that I had never started down this slippery, slippery slope.
Be afraid. Be very afraid. The 80's TV on DVD assault continues with the arrival of one of the most beloved and most hated series of all time, Punky Brewster: Season One. Shout! Factory will unleash this four-disc box set on June 1st, featuring all 23 episodes presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, plus new interviews with the cast and crew and two hours of the popular Saturday morning animated series It's Punky Brewster\
The only thing that can possibly make it worse, is being a cinema addict with horrible taste in films and an unbelievably ****** collection of crappy titles.

It's a slow week otherwise... just Last Samurai to pick up. Great, great, movie.
Re: Goodfellas - About ******* time!
I have waited since 1997 when I bought my DVD player to buy this. My patience has paid off.
Saw a commercial for the theater version of ROTK last night and it reminded me that the DVD will be out in less than 2 weeks

My thought is that, if you're interested in past releases, there are a good half-dozen or so sites out there that have very comprehensive listings and reviews going back several years, and a quick search of those sites should yield any information on any current release you're looking for.

But honestly, if I just wanted to know if a title was out or not, I would check DVD Price Search first. Usually it can find at least one site that would have it in stock, if it's out, and it's already got the price listed, as well.
Oh, and it's not on the list, because I hate them, but I thought you might be interested in something coming out next Tuesday:
Paybacks suck, don't they? 8)
Great. Thanks for that "timely" update. ::) At least ya' got the track listing and a better cover shot in there though, so it wasn't a total waste... 8)
Request for you, good sir: Any chance we (you) can keep an archive of what's been released already? For example, I've not been paying much attention to new releases the last several weeks, so I went to check your list to see what I've missed recently, only to find out that your list is quite up to date as far as whats "upcoming", in a very literal sense, and stuff that's been released already, even just yesterday, is apparently subsequently deleted. Can we pretty please keep the old stuff around too, on a go forward basis? You could stick it in a separate post or something, if you want to keep the first post in this thread just for the "upcoming" stuff...
I love you. :-*And I Love You :-*

"There's gold in them there dumpsters."
A few years back Mt. Dew had a WATS toll free number for people to respond to their new wider openings in the can. I made about 50 calls and told them not to do it, as the average mouth can't take so much at one time. They sent me coupons for free cartons of the drink, but they went and put the wide open tab on their cans anyway. I have to buy 4 cases of liquid to be home delivered, every time I order I ask for bottles not the warned wide open cans besides a couple of cases of bottled spring water. I can stock about 10 cases in the bathroom on the long unused poddy seat. A friend of ours measured it and made a multiple plywood board to fit over and across, the not used anymore seat.
You come to my place and it's soda or water is served cold as a cucumber, Mt.Doo it's a good flavor they picked. The original cocaine formula of Coca Cola, around the turn of the century they made them change it, for too many were becoming addicted. Cola is misspelled also, for the Kola nut a naturally ccaffeinated herb.
Coca Cola put the word Gay in Gay 90's (not homosexual) on the map, leading to addiction; and people never knew up to the time of the forced by the government change of formula, that it was a *narcotic* formula! Imagine what the world would be like today with cars and other things fast for the heavy drinkers of Coca Cola in the original formula of Cocaine and Kola nut!
I'll take Mt. Dew over anything I see a code number 20J-336-7 6 pack and # 1303SE04234, they also still have the WATS toll free # and www.mountaindew.com if you want to contact them. I hope this helps you to obtain what you want.
(T)he average mouth can't take so much at one time.
I know I'm not the only one who has difficulty with the longer posts of Danol. The shorter posts--sure, those are just fine, but these multi-paragraph ones--man. I start out great, but about halfway through, my eyes just start to glaze over and my head starts hurting.
Tomorrow's another good day!
The HTF has been good at spotting a deal on the new Field of Dreams:

Walmart is carrying this disc with an exclusive 3rd disc, attached to the back, which includes the 90min documentary from the orginal LD and DVD. Grab a Best Buy ad, take it to WM, and get it for 15.99.
For you buyers of TV season sets - how quickly do you get through a box set? Is it something you do casually, like pop in an episode every now and then, or do you plow through an entire season fairly quick?
I ask, since the shows I do have, I never seem to make it through. They seem to get stored for that "one day" when I'll have time/dedication.
Best Buy has a bundle of DVD's on sale this week 3 for $20...
Hmm....I don't think I'll be spending a whole lot of time glancing at the DVD cover art, so it doesn't really bother me. I mean, on a DVD shelf, how often do you even look at the front of the DVD case?! ???
Deep Discount DVD (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com) has a promotion this week (starting 6/18, ending 6/25) for an additional 20% off their normal discount prices on all DVDs, excluding preorders. The promo code to enter is:

....and now I can toss off to Demi Moore and Reese Witherspoon on my 32" TV instead of my 17" monitor (too much information, I know--but I'd rather come right out and admit it instead of trying to pretend that I bought "Striptease" for it's artistic value. . .).
do you own Showgirls? :-X
(Got your PM, Brent, and yeah, you can have my old, movie-only copy. But only after the new one comes out, okay?)
jared - do you have the first two robotech remastered box sets? i'm guessing you do, since you bought three and four. i have the last re-issues that they did, all seven box sets (each has two volumes and a bonus disc), and really hesitate to buy any more. is the quality difference worth it?
Hang on just a second here... I'll one up Matty's offer, and throw in a very cool poster with my Showgirls DVD Brent, since I'll be upgrading mine as well... ;) Matty can even vouch for how cool my poster is.
So, what's the word on the upgrades to Showgirls anyway V? More Jessie Spanno with (on) her dancin' pals, or what?!
It's the English Patient SE for me this Tuesday. I've been waiting on this one forever.I saw that in the Best Buy ad this week...I vaguely remember going to see EP when it came out. It was good and all but it hasn't stuck with me at all
We've gotten very tentative early word from a retail source that Universal may be working on a number of interesting catalog special editions for release later in 2004. Among the titles that are reportedly in the works are Jay Roach's Meet the Parents (presumably to coincide with the release of Meet the Fockers in theaters), John Carpenter's The Thing and (gasp!) David Lynch's Dune. We're working to get additional confirmation on this. Dune would be huge... but anything less than Criterion-level treatment would be a shame.
Red Heat: Special Edition. The Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Belushi 1988 actioner (which, incidentally, was the first American movie ever to film in Russia's famed Red Square) will cram its way into the already crowded September 7th release date with a newly remastered 1.85 anamorphic widescreen transfer, DD5.1 and 2.0 Surround tracks. Extras will include the new "East Meets West" making-of documentary featuring new interviews with cast and crew, "I'm Not Russian, But I Play One on TV: Ed O'Ross" and "Bennie Dobbins: A Stunt Man for All Seasons" featurettes, a vintage "making-of" TV special, TV spots and theatrical trailers. Retail is $19.98.

Maybe it was mentioned earlier and I missed it, but I just saw this review (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/535/535508p1.html) over at dvd.ign.com. I didn't realize that "The Black Hole" from Disney was being released on DVD, I always enjoyed that movie as a kid.

I almost forgot...tomorrow!
They've also got a 2/$25 deal with KBV2 and Jackie Brown--which means that JB comes out to about nine bucks, if you're buying KBV2. Great deal for a great, underrated flick (and nice DVD set, too).
I've heard about a few other people not getting the AvP ticket. I cracked mine open just now to check, and yep, it's there. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise - I've heard AvP ain't too hot.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what extras are on the Duel DVD?
Mark your calendars for August 12, as DUEL will hit the streets in its 90 minute theatrical form (it will, however, be in the Academy aspect ratio as opposed to the theatrical releases' widescreen ratio).
From the Digital Bits
Anyone out there up for The Ultimate Matrix Collection? According to the Wachowski Brothers, who made a rare public appearance at the recent Comic-Con to talk about the DVDs, it's on the way in December. They were part of a Warner Bros. DVD panel on Saturday, which happened right before the big Lucasfilm Star Wars panel, so it seems not many people from the online DVD world were in attendance to hear them talk (including us). But faithful Bits reader Doug S. was there and sent us all the details, some which confirm things we'd heard before (click here and here) and some of it new information.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
*** Marks the footage included in the DELETED SCENES of the first release DVD.
1) Just an extra 2 shots of the EYELESS Christ at the 1944 prologue.
2) Extra footage in the exploration of the Ice Cave. ***
3) Rasputin is revealed to have lost his eyes. (Watch the 1944 "sucked in" footage of Rasputin to see the PG-13 version of said idea)
4) Broom is told EXACTLY how long he has left and he takes a decision about how to spend his last days.
5) Added footage at the entrance of the MACHEN LIBRARY, We see the BPRD "sealing" the courtyard area befor HB and Abe come out of the Garbage truck.
6)Rasputin Ilsa and Kroenen are seen in the underground area that HB will explore later. Reveal of Rasputin wearing GLASS EYES. SAMMAEL duplication made clearer.
7) Longer scene between HB and Myers outside the hospital. Origin of the nickname "Boy scout"
8) Extended scene between Liz and Myers at the mental hospital. We see Liz playing w/ some rubber bands on her wrist.
9) Scene in a taxi cab between Liz and Myers ***
10) Added beats at Liz´s arrival at BPRD
11) Scene between Myers and Liz Re Rubber bands.
12) Extra scene depicting Hellboy´s escape from his cell.
13) Broom reacts to Hellboy´s escape.
14) Hellboy extra footage as he spies on Liz and Myers.
15) Extra Line from Broom to Rasputin after the Apocalypse vision.
Also, The apocalypse footage is played with NO DIALOGUE over it.
16) Russian Warehouse scene. Origin of the Portal Stone ***
17) Extra footage on Jeffrey Tambor´s lines in the cemetery. 2 instances.
18) Hellboy steps on Rasputin´s glass eye. Rasputin is seen with one empty eye socket.
These scenes total about 15 minutes of footage. I may have neglected an event or two, but this is pretty much the guideline.
Marco Beltrami´s music is preserved completely except for the reprise after main credits which was not an original piece anyway. Marco composed a couple of new themes for the added footage, namely RUSSIAN WAREHOUSE.
Keira Knightley...

When's the next movie night Jared? Better be real soon!
I've seen pix from that flick, but it's not available in the U.S. as far as I know. Was that an import you snagged?
Dawn of the Dead - How is this, anyway? I'm buying it for Sarah Polley alone, but have no idea if the movie sucks or not.
Koyaanisqatsi $8.99
Well it sounds like DotD is a good blind purchase for me. :)
DBK, if you want the older single-disc Enter the Dragon by any chance, I have an extra here.
Do keep in mind that a few of these (like the Legally Blonde movies) belong to my girlfriend.

Coming 12/28.
Anyone know of a site that lists what has currently been transferred to DVD?
Also, Fast Times at Ridgemont High just hit again... What's the difference, and is it better than the prior one?
I can't believe the world isn't ablaze with excitement since DC Cab was announced for DVD release in March.
Mr. T is rad.
Also picked up this little precious gem today, not because it's a good movie, but:

Meh. I wasn't impressed.
Movie is boring, but I'll take whatever tidbits (heheh) that are on offer.

Actually, I thought the movie was pretty good. Decent story, although after all these years of watching movies, I saw through the plot and had it all figured out after the first, say 20 minutes. I think the last movie that really faked me out was The Sixth Sense. Didn't see that one coming.

I am looking forward to this release next week, been along time since I saw the show on TV. It has never aired up here on our Sci-Fi channel. It's been ages since i've seen anything about Buck

Fire in the Sky
Is CompUSA going to have it tomorrow or only on Friday morning during all the big sales?
I guess I'll grab those ****** Ewok movies too...
Passed on all the StarWars stuff this week.
Golden Girls season 1 (for the girlfriend).
Half of the people on line at my local best buy had Seinfeld dvds in their hands. I was one of them. Go out and buy yourself a set. They are not the best episodes, but there are some classics in the mix.
I see the Buck Rodgers TV series is finally hitting this week (today) I think. I'll probably pick that one up, to go along with the Battlestar Galactica set I nabbed earlier this year. Used to love watching those on the tube as a kid.

I guess I'll grab those ****** Ewok movies too, but screw those abbreviated versions of the Droids and Ewoks cartoon series. Give me the whole series, or give me nothing, 'cause I ain't gonna pay $20 for just 4 episodes at a time. Damned Lucas... >:(
Anybody know if the version of Hero that's being released in the U.S. Tuesday is an edited down version? If I buy it am I going to be missing a lot?
Tomorrow is the day for...Spider-man 2 Widescreen Special Edition
Can anyone point me to a comprehensive list of movies that have been made on DVD?
I already have the Clone Wars DVD of season 1 & 2. I picked it up at a toy show, very well done. 8)
