The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Clone Wars AT-TE
« on: July 31, 2008, 10:41 PM »
Time for a stupid question.  Have any of you tried to mount your AT-TE climbing a wall as shown in the trailer -  which I've heard a few comments on regarding space issues?

If so - I'd love to hear the details and see pics.   :)

You're asking for pics of someone mounting an AT-TE? That is just sick.  >:(

Oh, not just the first pick, its all 12 in order of finish (I realize my post implied just the first pick was predetermined

If new guys take the spots, that is random for who they took over for, or I've seen where they are tucked at the end of the 1st round in order they signed up etc

That's an interesting idea.  I'm in other leagues where we do this and another where its random.  Thing is - what if three guys drop out and they had the 1st, 6th, and 12 picks?  How do you assign the three newbies who replace them?  I'm with Rob - if it was a keeper league and you had the same guys year after year, I think this would make sense, but if teams are turning over fairly regualrly, random is the only fair way to do it.  I also don't think you can set up a rule like this for current year draft - it would have to apply to next year. Otherwise people who vote for it now are basing their votes on where they would end up drafting since we already know how people performed last year.

You'd be lucky to get Tomlinson with the 2nd pick.   :)

I know...that was the joke.   ;)

Alright, if you insist.

One more freebie though - Jerry Rice is the best receiver, like ever!

Ha!  Well I've heard that Tomlinson is pretty good, so I'm looking to pick him up first or second round if I can.   ;)

As for -1 for missed kicks, I'd be totally okay with doing away with that.  But we've got negative points for INT's and Fumbles, I always considered that the equivalent for kickers.  But I hate it when it happens to me, so if everyone wanted to get rid of it, I'd be alright with that.

I see where you're coming from, but its kind of an extra penalty as well.  We don't penalize RBs when they don't get any yardage on a carry or QB's for incomplete passes.  A missed FG is similar to these events in my opinion.  What say the rest of you?

Star Wars Universe / Re: Clone Wars: EU or Prequel?
« on: July 31, 2008, 07:36 AM »
AH, so using that logic, you would say Episodes I through IV are canon, but Empire and Jedi are EU.  After all, they weren't directed by Lucas, so he wasn't 100% at the helm.   ;)

I think you're on the trend, but I like to think that EU stuff is very low Lucas involvement and limited exposure.  The novels, comics, etc. are all things Lucas approves, but isn't really driving and it has the potential not to be acepted by the majority of SW fans.

The Clone Wars are very different from this. They're mentioned in Episode IV and we see elements of the war in Episodes II & III, so you have reference to the war in half the movies.  We have comics, novels, and a cartoon all based on the Clone Wars and now we'll have a movie/new cartoons as well.  For that reason, I'm classifying the CW as something more than EU.

Whoa- didn't know about the K-Mart sale; how long is it supposed to last?  I wonder if I should have gone there instead of WM yesterday, but I do still need an Evolutions set and a BP...

Holy crap! I will but the BMF an AT-TE to get another AT-TE for free. I have to check K-Mart tonight....glad I did not open the big vehicles yet!

That may not be much of a bargain.  I heard rumor that the BMF Falcon is $200 at Kmart, so you're not saving as much as you might think.  No idea what they charge for an AT-TE or if they'll even honor the buy 2 get 1 free on large vehicles.  :P

I don't understand why they were "forced" to either move the price to $25 or exclude a fig to make it $20.  Some all-powerful being has decided that a 10% increase to $22 wouldn't be a strong enough margin play?   :-\

I hear Shannon Sharpe is a hell of a tight end.  If you drafted him in the first and then look for Mike Vick in the second, you'd have a hell of an offense!

Yeah yeah okay I get it - no more shop talk before the draft.  ;D

I'd much rather see more figures for less dollars, but if other 5 figure BPS are being released at $20, then I don't see how Hasbro is justifying 4 figure sets at the same price unless something else is included.  That being said, packs of 4 or 5 figures at $5 each is still a significant savings over $7 or $8 basic figs.

In that case, here's what I'm okay with, what I have questions about, and what I'm not okay with...

Agree with the following...
Passing Touchdowns (4)
Interceptions (-1)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-1)
Offensive Fumble Return TD (6)
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Sack (1)
Interception (1)
Fumble Recovery (1)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Kickoff and Punt Return Touchdowns (6)
Points Allowed 0 points (6)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (3)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (1)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (0)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (0)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-1)

Need clarification these...assume you mean a bonus point at these milestones?
Passing Yards (50 yards per point; 1 point at 300 yards)
Rushing Yards (10 yards per point; 1 point at 100 yards)
Reception Yards (10 yards per point; 1 point at 100 yards)
Return Touchdowns (6) - are we awarding points to just the Defense or individual player as well?  I.e if you have Devon Hester and the Bears Defense, do you get 12 points when he runs one back?

Disagree with these...I don't think you should lose points for missing a field goal.  This is too influenced by weather and strategy in my opionion and you're already losing an opportunity cost of 3 or more points.  That's punishment enough.
Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards (0)

I would say this highly deemphasizes TD - any starting RB can get 60 yards rushing.  What I like about it is that it equalizes the impact of a goal line back versus a workhorse back.  They both contribute to overall success, so this helps equalize their importance.

I'm not a fan of point per reception leagues.  Adding this in makes scoring even more arbitrary and puts too much emphasis on skill positions.

I would also like to see a few more points awarded to defensive points allowed.  I think this is more fair than what's listed above:

Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (6)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (3)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-2)

Star Wars Universe / Re: Clone Wars: EU or Prequel?

Ah, but WHY is it EU? It is released as a Lucasfilm movie which seems to have been the qualifier for years.

Both of the Ewok movies were released by Lucasfilm, and they're EU.

To me, EU is anything other than the six main films.

That logic doesn't make any sense to me.  If your stand is that anything outside of a movie should be EU, then you should include the Clone Wars because its being released as a movie.  Frankly, I think the Clone Wars will make for better stories than what we saw in Episode I or II and since it comes between II and III, I consider it to be prequel era.  Of course, I'm more open to EU than some of my fellow SW enthusiasts.

The Legacy Collection / Re: The Big Vehicles - Did You Buy Them?
« on: July 30, 2008, 10:02 PM »
I bought the AT-TE at TRU because I just couldn't wait any longer and it came with the free Holo Grievous figure.  Still haven't even seen a Falcon at retail.

I have a set of three for $40 plus shipping if anyone still needs 'em.  Otherwise they're headed back to the store.
