At Rebelscum, with the Geonosis Creatures, they have the SKN # for the Y-wing (29.99) and The Tie Interceptor (34.99).
I know its a rumor, but if confirmed. I will buy both of the vehicles because I don't have them.
For the Y-Wing, I hope that it will have the empty R2 Socket like the Vintage version and the recent X-Wing Fighter ;D.
-
The empty socket would be nice and a decent pack-in pilot to.
-
The empty socket would be about the only thing of interest here. A removable droid we don't have would be nice, too, but I don't see that happening.
-
I'll consider it if there's an empty droid socket in back. But I already have the POTF2 version, andI skipped the OTC one. If they're just a new paint job, I'll skip this.
I will, however, buy another TIE Interceptor.
-
I'll take both, if the rumors are true. With each vehicle, I currently have three units (2 POTFII Y-wings, 1 OTC... 3 POTJ TIE Interceptors). Seeing as how both the Y-Wing and the Interceptor are some of my absolute favorite OT ships, I can conscience another hypothetical pick-up.
I am given pause, however, to think that the Y-Wing is basically just going to be the same as the 1999 release. If that's the case, I'll probably either pass or score only one unit. I would really like the droid slot to be open, so that I can at long last put an R5 unit in the space, but attm I'm dubious. Time will tell, as Hasbro has suprised the "collective we" (Cha-zam!) before! ;)
-
I could always use another Y-Wing. I have the vintage one and the latest one to come out (TRU exclusive? I dunno, that's where I got it though) but did not buy the Target exclusive one. This one will be my 3rd.
-
Short of a full resculpt or a REALLY annoyingly impressive pack-in, I'll pass on this... The Y-Wing is one of the vintage hold-overs I wish they'd let go of and give us a scaled ship. It's actually not that large and with some "assembly required" on the nacels (honestly I'd love "blast off" Nacels, that'd kick ass), it'd fit in a smaller box than the OTC one did I think.
Love the Y-Wing as a ship, hate the Kenner mold... It looks comically bad compared to almost any of the modern TIE's we have like Vader's, Bomber, Large Wing or the Interceptor. :-\ This and the AT-ST are high up there on my list of things I'd love to see completely redone from the ground up.
-
I hope the give us better front guns. That shouldn't be hard to do.
I would also hope to see the '99 release paint scheme, I could do with one more.
-
When they say "gold," are they referring to the yellow one that Target had a few years back?
-

I would think so. I believe that that was the original intention of the color schemes then the original movie was made, that the color of the squadron reflected the color of the highlights on the ships.
-
If this is true, I'll be happy to pick up the Y-Wing. Its one of the few OT ships left that I missed the first time, and I hope this rumor turns out to be true so I can knock that one off the list. I picked up the last release of the Interceptor, but its probably a good ship to get out there again. The Arena beast pack rumor is interesting, probably a three pack of the Reek, Nexu, and Acklay. I never did see an Acklay back during the initial run, but at this point, I don't think I really care. I certainly wouldn't pay $60 to get it :).

Star Wars Gold Squadron Y-Wing Fighter - $29.99 (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2575231)
Looks like it will be here this summer (6/15). :)
-
Here's hoping for pack-in that doesn't interest me so i wont have to buy it
-
I don't have the POTF2 or OTC versions, so I think I might splurge and grab this one. I definitely prefer the gold/yellow paint scheme (compared the red and blue version from the OTC), so it has really piqued my interest.

I agree with you completely on both the Y-Wing and the AT-ST. The sculpts are so hopelessly outdated and underscaled...
-
if it has the 2 pilot cockpit i may consider it.
-
If they want me to buy another Y-Wing, it's going to take decent sized guns on the front and a droid socket on the back (although the former might overrule the latter in terms of my purchasing one if it comes right down to it). A new pilot using the Gold Leader body (with a different head and helmet) and a repainted R5 droid would be the most welcome additions, but that's not likely at that price I think.
The TIE Interceptor is going to be a definite for me if it uses the new style (non-battery pack) cockpit mold. The arena beasts won't get a second look, as I already have all three, and 5 years ago the three of them combined didn't cost 60 bucks. The only way I can see anyone who was around back then even considering buying that set is if they also included an Orray with a Geonosian picador. Other than that, it's an easy pass for me.
-
It would be uber-cool if we got none other than Gold 5, aka "Pops" packed in along with his astromech droid.
-
Here's hoping for pack-in that doesn't interest me so i wont have to buy it
I hope the pack in at least has a removable helmet with chin strap.

Chances are i am going to go the ebay route anyway with the pack-in like i did with Zev
-
I'm glad they're coming out with another one. I missed out on the last one TRU had.
-
I may pick one up. 30 bucks isn't bad compared to some oth TRU exclusives.
-
I hate it when they put exclusive figures with vehicles. Just gouging people to buy the same vehicle with a figure we don't have yet. >:( Just sell the figure carded.

I have been saying that for years since i am not a vehicle guy. Usually i stand strong and skip it unless its really cool like the Swamp Dragon. I picked up Zev from the snowspeeder on ebay so i plan to do the same with this if it indeed happens.

I was just checking the listing at TRU.com for this ship, and it looks like their "expected arrival date" is now 8/21/2007. Moved back a little bit from the previous date (June 15 or so, wasn't it?).
-
Hasbro has released an updated picture of Lt. Lepira and his R5 Astromech droid:
I'll definitely be buying this one. I like the improvements and I like the pack-in figures. Plus, the ship and 2 figures seems like a good deal at $30 compared to some other TRU items lately.
-
I'm as tired of that sculpt as anyone, but overall I like the set a lot and that's a nice looking droid repaint. I'm in.
-
Anyone getting the set and not care about the droid? Let me know because I only want the droid and I'd love to not buy the whole set to get him.
-
Wow...I'm really diggin that missle ::)
Was that really necessary of Hasbro to show off?
-
I never got the last release so I'm looking forward to this one. I agree with Jeff that for $30, this is a good deal.
-
Its sad, but $30 really does feel like a steal at TRU these days.
-
I'm only interested in Lepira... Got a vintage Y-wing already.
-
I never did get a Y-Wing so now that it includes Lepira and that great astro droid I will be getting this. 8)
-
I never got the last version either, passing it up the one time I saw it at retail. I'm really happy that we're getting another chance at it - and like everyone has said, with the pilot and astro droid, it seems like a good deal (especially for TRU).
-
I just want the pack ins, not sure if i am preordering it.

Just pre-ordered that and the Tie today. I like the wing although I would have preferred a removable astro its cool the include a standard on so I am happy and look forward to this repaint. The tie however is kind of lame but I buy every vehicle so its something i have to get. Yes, I have to get it.
-
i cant wait for this set. my ANH Rebel base is lacking in accurate ships
-
I really think this is sad, with being released for the 3rd time and they have not brought this ship to true scale as the X-wing and TIE Fighter. I think this is a well enough wanted ship to justify true scale, is it not? I had the other Y-wings, but traded them off as the scale got to me with the X-wing and TIE dwarfing them.
I don't really want this one, other than the Pilot and R5. So this ship will be up for trade once I pick one up.

If anyone doesn't want the astromech let me know.
I'm getting the ship and pilot on a deal from a friend.
Kevin
-
The r5 could also pretty much double for the one aboard Padme's ship in EP1. I looked through Wookpedia and it doesn't have any info/number on it.
-
Crap. Another thing where I just want the pack-ins. Oh well maybe someday in a Saga Legends type of thing.
-

Kevin
Presumably this is because your friend only wanted the Astromech.
So it must have been a hell of a deal for you to get involved and basically take over being the one who needs to find just the astromech...
Otherwise, you might as well have just bought one.
-
I love the R5, and given the rocking designs R5's have I have to say I'm looking forward to more R5 repainting. Red Leaders immediately needs done, but there's a whole bunch with intricate paintjobs I can't wait for.
Hate the "Dutch" Vander body at this point, it's just too damn tall and that's annoying to me... Still as a pack-in I like that they're doing removable helmets at least, and the astromech is just great. Thank god I've got someone (thanks Paul) helping me with both since I really didn't want to buy the Y-Wing.
-
I'm right there with everyone on the Pilot, but the Droid pack-in sure is a nice bonus. I'm really looking forward to the set now.
-
Jeez, this is going to bring me up to about 6 Y-Wings. Glad to have the new pilot and astromech though.

It's for his kid, I think.
As it stands I was just doing a friend a favor. :)
Thanks for the concern Rob.

According to the TRU listing info, the droid's name is R5-F7.
The one on Padme's Ep1 ship, R5-A7, was very similar. That one was all yellow, with no red -

Man, I don't want more overpriced re-releases, and I've never bought a ship for the figure/droid, but that R5 unit looks pretty good. I wish this one had been a target deal-
-
I like the deco on the vehicle itself better than past releases especially those lasers mounted on the nose of the cockpit.
-
I really like this ship, and the new pics of the deco and figures seals the deal for me. The $30 price seems very fair, and if the R5 unit in the ship was removable, I'd be planning to buy two of these nice ships.
-
The new nose canons are huge plus for me as well. I might have to learn how to make molds so I could make replacements for the older models.

I hear you about the droid slot. It's definitely a curious situation about that, but explainable.
I have a vintage Y-Wing. The droid slot works, but only with the vintage R2-D2 and R5-D4. But I got clever and decided to try to make a modern R2 unit fit. I had custom painted some R2's from POTF2, and decided I wanted to get one of them into this Y-Wing. But the legs/feet are just a little too wide to fit in the vintage droid slot. So I shaved them down along the sides until finally it would squeeze into the Y-Wing. Let me tell you, it's a tight fit!
So what are the practical solutions? Hasbro would have to do one of two things to make a functional Y-Wing droid slot happen:
1) Retool the vintage vehicle molds. It's just not designed for a modern era astro droid figure. This would be the ideal solution but also the most expensive.
2) Come up with an R2 unit that is designed specifically to mate with the vintage size droid slot. It's doable but would require a new basic figure tool.

I have heard from a few friends in the midwest that these have been found at TRU brick-and-mortar stores - Ohio and Illinois.
-
Please show up before Saturday so I can use a coupon!
-
I like this description from the website:
Rule the galaxy or at least your bedroom! with this detailed Y-wing Fighter vehicle.
Maybe my wife won't mind I get it with that kind of advertising.

If you don't want Lepira, I'd take him off your hands. Any more incentive, Dan? ;)
-
Does someone have a link to the in store coupon? I can't seem to find it on their site.

It's been removed. But here's thedirect link (http://www6.toysrus.com/our/tru/prom/081207email/919392.cfm)

I went looking with coupon in hand and had no luck :-[

Thanx Jeff I looked all through Wookiepedia for that droid and couldn't find it, never thought about the astromech site. I'm diggin' the repaints we're getting with the R5 I hope they do Red leader R5 one day.

It looks like the Y-Wing is now in stock over at TRU.com. I got a shipping notice this morning for a preorder I placed "just in case" awhile back.
-
Just got mine at TRU. It's amazing how much better a deal this is than just about everything else on the market-- you get a ship and two figures for $30. Unreal. Of course, the landing gear still seems to be saggy, so I'll be propping mine up with LEGO bricks or something else again. But it LOOKS like a pile of awesome.
Here's hoping for a second red redeco patterned after the 1979 or so Kenner die-cast ship. (Which is different than the 2004 version.)
-
Just got mine at TRU.
Burbank?
-
I ordered one...you really can't beat that deal :)
-

Burbank?
Yup, last one too. Usually avoid that one, but I was feeling saucy.
-
I picked one up as well and cracked it open. I saw three and all of them had a mole type mark on the Pilot's cheek.
Overall, I think the dirt detail is a bit much, but those nose guns, they make quite a difference. I'm also a little disappointed, it seems like the "motivator" on the permanent ship R5 is non retractable. At least I can't get it to retract.
-
Overall, I think the dirt detail is a bit much
That has been my only source of hesitation about wanting this. I like a little bit of battle damage, but it seems excessive, based purely on online pics. However, I haven't added a Y-Wing to my collection since the early 80's, so I'd love to get one to add to my modern displays. :)

I'll sell ya one. ;)

Oh yeah... Add that to my list, k? :-*
-
I'm always irked at the desireable pack-ins with these ships, so that annoys me that I've gotta track down help to get the figures and not the ship (or bite the bullet on something I don't want). Hopefully my ace-in-the-hole came through for me on this one. ;) I dig getting such an obscure pilot and then getting a nice repainted R5 since they're thus far not too common.
-
I've been thinking that I should try to commission someone to make a mold of the new nose gun and run a replacement cast or two. I'd love to replace my older ones.
-
I'm bound to get one in the next week or two, and I don't think I'm going to keep the R5, so I'll put it up here to you guys ;D

I'll take it.

UPS just delivered the Y-Wing I ordered from TRU.com - just a notice to anyone else who ordered or is thinking of ordering online, the box of mine was pretty smashed up. I don't necessarily care since I'm opening it anyways, and the ship/figures are just fine, but they just tossed this box in a larger box and shipped it out. No packing whatsoever.
Aside from that, I'm quite happy to have it. It was one of the OT ships I was still missing, and its nice to get a little closer to having them all.
-
I had the same big box with no packing but my box somehow was flawless. I am an opeber so i did not care.
This is the best ship of the year. amazing paint job and value for $30! I will be getting a second of this puppy. A must have for your collection.
-
I went looking for this at retail over the weekend hopeing I could find it but all I could find was the Tie Interceptor. I can't believe the interceptor is $6 more. I ended up getting the lego hoth rebel base set instead since it was the last one they had.
I'm holding out, I thought the x-wing, big wing tie and AT-AT would be done deals by now but I still see those at retail. Hopefully these will show up in volume at some point and I won't have to worry about careless packaging in shipping. I'm not exactly a sealed collector but I keep boxes and I like them to be in good shape.
-
Found this today, and did a little bit of soul searching over whether or not I would actually buy it. The Y-Wing was one of my favorite vintage toy ships, so it really had that going for it, but having a modern one already (the Target exclusive one) I didn't really feel it was missing from my collection.
In the end I bought it because of the strength of the pack-ins, and I am glad I did. Neat to have Lepira and another R5. Love the more accurate new chin guns. A couple of "new" deco changes I see are the engine covering pieces being molded in a bright orange plastic (gives the interior of the enginge more of a glow) and the purple tint to the cockpit glass. The landing gear are not nearly the issue of the Target version--I remember having to take that one apart and put the pieces together correctly myself as it could not stand up on its own. Seems like that is corrected.
Overall, I feel this is more than a decent buy for the price. I am satisfied in the "value" of the ship.
Looking it over, I am still amazed at the level of intricacy of the sculpt that still doesn't seem to be done justice by the much-improved paint aps. The only gripe I have is the lack of attention to the parts of the astromech sculpted on the ship itself--these should be off-white but instead are the same gray/dark-gray wash as the rest of the ship. Perhaps having this Y-Wing will finally free me up to do a touch-up paint job on my other and see how well I can make it look.
-
I got mine from tru as well in the same big shipping box with no packing. Mine came up without a scratch luckily since i wont be opening it.
-
I got mine yesterday for my BD!
This is a nicely packaged ship. Set's itself up nicely for being a mini diorama.
The price is excellent at $29.99. For that you get a ship (mostly rehashed with large guns, new paint wash), pilot (again mostly rehashed, except the head and helmet), and a droid (a repaint of R5-D4). I'm not complaining either. While the pilot body chosen isn't the best, it does what it needs to for this set. The droid is a very welcome repaint. The ship is very nice. I especially like that Hasbro lengthened the guns in the fore section. The paint wash give the ship a more lived in feeling.
So if you look at it this way, for the $30 you got two figures for $7 each and the ship for only $16. A great deal, IMO.
-
This is an excellent value. And I hope that this kind of packaging for Rebel fighters becomes a standard. A pilot, astro droid plus the vehicle make for a very nice set. But the concern that brings up is that the Rebel pilot body that Hasbro has been using might be too large for the X-Wing that seems to be the new standard for that vehicle. I personally haven't tried to fit Biggs or Wedge into the modern X-Wing, but I get the feeling they might be too big for that cockpit.
-
I've tried putting the "big" bodies into the x-wing. They really don't fit. It's mainly the right arm that's the problem.
-
This is an excellent value.
Was an excellent value.
Their site now has a price of $34.99 and the guys in the Minnesota thread are finding brick and mortars have bumped the price up $5.
-
I'm having second thoughts about buying this, having 2 of the first re-release Y-Wing. I really like the paintjob and the chin guns, but not sure if I like them for $30 :P
-

Anyone else notice TRU raised the price to $34.99! Bastards!
-

Well...everyone kept "complaining" on how much of a good deal it was and that's just not TRU policy, but it's still worth it IMO. I had the chance during the 1-2 week window to snag one at $29.99, but the boxes were mostly tore up. I'm still happy with my $35 version. :)
-
These have been sitting at my local TRU for a while... Considering picking one up. What's the measurements on this thing, in inches? I'm seeing if I have space for it on my shelves.
-
Most of these left my TRU's a while ago though I did see one the other day. At the holidays they seemed to blow out... I think they're about 12" long or so. not much more or less though.
-
The box itself is 22" long with about 1" gap on either end of the ship, so it's roughly 20" L
-
Thanks guys. :) Picked this up at TRU earlier today. Great vehicle, and nice pack-in figures. Even at the raised price of $35 it's still a good value.
-
Anyone looking for just the Ywing and not the figures? I found a few more of these today, but am not really interested in the ship. Send me a PM if you want to split the cost to get the Ywing.

I'd be interested in the opposite, sorry. :'( I want a Lt. Lepira in my ranks.

I just got one today with my $35 Play Rewards thingy! :D
