The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)
« on: December 14, 2017, 11:34 PM »
Wow, I thought some of it was really good, but a lot of choppy weirdness too.  I need to sit on it and think through everything again, but for a SW movie this kind of felt like a hot mess.

So much awesome.  They must be fighting Thanos on multiple fronts, with Iron Man, Spidey, Strange, (maybe Vision and Scarlet Witch) etc. in New York versus the team they show in the big Wakanda battle.  Nice to see Panther apparently has a big role in this.

I'm a little surprised that we're getting War Machine and Winter Soldier, and a little bummed to not see Ant-Man or Hawkeye.  I think Hawk was in one of the early scenes with his back to the camera, maybe in space? And maybe Ant Man's there, but too small to notice.  Not seeing any of them (or Witch or Vision) in the big battle charge has me concerned, but maybe they're all just over on the NY team.

I'm worried that this might be the last we see of Iron Man too.   :-\

*EDIT* Just noticed Hulk Buster IM is fighting the hoardes in Wakanda.  YES!  ;D ;D ;D

These hit my local TRU today and I snagged one. A pleasant surprise seeing as this TRU has not stocked any new Black Series since TFA Wave 2

Are these marked down in store as well or just on

Also of note, I noticed tonight that Target FINALLY marked down that Death Trooper/Cassian/Jyn 3 pack to $35.99... this is the first discount I've seen on it in a year when I snagged it for $54.99.

I'm not sure how long this discount will last, but considering my Target has 15 of those packs, they might need to lower the price even more.

Targets in Minneapolis have had that on "Temporary Price Reduction" for about a month now.  $35 is a great deal, but they should have knocked the price down a lot sooner.

I'm not sure Marvel reuses sets/actors from one film to the next like you're suggesting.  I think if two are filming concurrently (say like Doc Strange and Ragnarok) you might get an easy cross-over.  But I'd guess most of the stuff is set up fresh on demand.

Not sure if's a "reshoot" per say, but Spiderman: Homecoming (Sony) uses airport battle scenes from Captain America: Civil War (Disney), and not all of those scenes were in the Cap movie.  That could be extra unused footage from Cap or they purposely filmed extra knowing they'd want it for Spidey or or flashback sequences.  Either way, it's a pretty clear example of how you can bridge sets/scenes from one movie to the next in an efficient way.  And that's going across two different licenses.  The deal making that went on just to get Spidey into the Marvel film continuity is another great example of how they're mapping out their universe.

I'm a Marvel guy first and foremost, but I like the DC characters and wish they could get some better product on the shelves.  It kind of seems like they have a basic plan with the Superman rebirth hanging out there and tying in the Amazons, but its disappointing that they can't do a better job tying this all together.  I haven't seen Justice League it possible that the Amazons are wearing different designs because the movie is set fifty years later?   :-\

I may have posted this already, but I'd like to see something happen where the walkers are actually important again... where the disease does something different, or they find some REAL remnant of society that's working on a cure, or where they go some place else and do something different.  I don't know what the hell that is, but for God's sake, wandering around from random villain to random villain is old.

Hang on, its coming...

I'm still hopeful this will be good.  I'm curious to know if the Flash is any good - I'm biased towards the TV version.  I think their biggest mistake was not just adding the Flash and Green Arrow characters from the show.  I'm not a big Cyborg guy either, but I can see where a "DC Iron Man" on the team is more appealing than Green Lantern.  I think that character is just tough to translate onto the big screen (though they didn't exactly knock it out of the park with Cyborg either).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Thor (Movie & Sequels)

Saw Thor 3 over the weekend and it was pretty good.  I think if there weren't so many other great Marvel movies, I would have liked this even more.  The story and visuals were great, but I agree that it didn't really feel like a "Thor" movie to me.  The past two movies seemed more serious or somber to me, whereas this was a lot of joking and physical comedy with Thor and Hulk.  I laughed a lot, but it does have more of a Guardians feel to it.  Given some of the deaths involved, I would not have expected Thor to be goofing around and cracking jokes.  I would have liked more set up on what happened between Loki and Odin as well.  If Loki just cast a spell on him that led to his demise, it seems like should have been more than a light-hearted footnote.  I wasn't overly impressed with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie either, but Kate Blanchett was excellent.

*SPOILER ALERT* - Did anyone else catch Loki eyeing up the cosmic cube?  Guessing he grabbed it off screen, which was maybe for the best given what happens to Asgard.  And the immense ship at the end had to be Thanos, right?

Yeah, I can't decide if I like the new season yet or not.  They're overdoing the sneaking around and shooting bits.  You film all that and then edit it into a cohesive story - I feel like we're getting the extra scenes added in.  It's hard to track where on the map everyone is and where they're heading - both in big picture of the assault and in the individual little battles.  I can't tell at any given point who's winning.  It's all visually pretty cool, but not great storytelling in my opinion.  And I kind of didn't get the bit with the baby - did Rick just kill that baby's dad?  or is the guy from Season 1 the dad?  Or is the baby even still alive?  Wouldn't all the gunfire have woken up a baby?  At least the zombies coming back to kill their savior buddies was cool (though I wish the realization had just been one gnawing at someone's leg instead of an overly telegraphed reveal).

Also, don't forget that Kylo (Ben), isn't trying to kill her....he's trying to recruit her.

This. He could have killed her outright - and Finn - and chose not to.

Not to disregard all the great arguments and theories put out there about Kylo's motivations and Rey's abilities, but I really think people are over thinking it.  Ben is struggling with the light vs. the dark after just killing his dad AND he was just shot square in the chest by Chewie's bowcaster AND he's out in a blizzard without his cold weather gear.  That's really more than enough rationale to not win a knockdown with a scavenger/loner/force-user fighting for her life.

No problem, I hadn't heard anything about these so they came as a surprise to me as well.

I just came from TRU where they had the 3-packs for $29.99 a pop...Target is selling them for $19.99. Much better deal IMO.

Last time I checked the NYCC 3-pack was still available on Amazon for $25 shipped. I keep meaning to order one but other stuff pops up and sidetracks me.

Hope we see some more from the new season!

I checked out a few Targets this morning, but haven't seen any sign of these variant figures.  Did you see all three?  They seem to have plenty of the same figures from the 3 packs, but that's all I've come across.   :P

Got my preorder in the mail this week.  Haven't popped him open yet, but he looks pretty sweet.

Thanks for the head's up on this.  I picked up both the three packs at TRU a while back because I had a coupon and managed to find one of each set with really good paint apps.  Would be cool to get the single carded "exclusives" as well.  I have seen the NYCC three pack on the bay for about $30, so definitely cheaper to buy the individuals at Target.
