Title: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: dustrho on May 1, 2003, 05:30 PM
This lightsaber is now on sale for only $89 (normally $139) at Master Replicas (http://www.masterreplicas.com/starwars/ProductsAnakinFXSaber.asp?sid=).

Does anyone here own this lightsaber?  Is it worth it?  I've been really wanting to get a replica lightsaber for a while now, and at this price I'm thinking how could I go wrong?  Anyone care to comment?

Ugh.  Thanks a lot Chris.   ::)  I've been a good boy and held off on buying this thing or any other MR stuff, but for some reason your post here just drew me in and made me feel like I needed it all of the sudden...  Not quite sure why exactly, other than I've been on a bit of a SW spending spree of late, and just figured - WHY NOT?!  Now my wife is REALLY going to kill me.   :'(

But actually folks, KB is running a deal right now on the same Anakin FX Lightsaber for $10 cheaper right here (http://www.kbtoys.com/genProduct.html/PID/1729439/ctid/17/ls/default).  BUT, before you jump on this one, keep in mind that Master Replicas is shipping theirs for FREE, while KB's shipping will run you $7.39 (domestically).  KB also slaps on sales tax in a number of states.  Unfortunately, MR adds sales tax to CA orders only, which basically screws me once again.

So after I did all the math, and tracked down a $5 KB coupon code, I went with the KB order and saved myself almost $7 off the MR price.  But the cost will vary depending on where you are.  All things being equal, I would've preferred to order from MR just because they are more used to shipping this high end replica type of stuff, and proabably have better customer service as well.

So I wound up with my Anakin FX Saber order for $88.98 total from KB.  Hopefully it makes it here in one piece though...   :-\  I just hope this doesn't lead into me "NEEDING" to go out and get a complete Master Replica collection now, as usually is the case when I get that first piece from any given SW line...   ::)   :P

BTW, here's a current KB coupon code that will net you the $5 discount:  KBVISAREW

Maybe David or someone else could enlighten us as to the differences between this item and the regular MR lightsaber hilt replicas that cost 3x as much...  Anyone know the difference?

Is this news, or did I just miss this announcement the first time around?!

Master Replicas Darth Vader FX lightsaber coming later this year!

Guess I'll have to be picking this one up as well...   :-\  Looks pretty sweet though!   8)  Here's the link (http://www.masterreplicas.com/StarWars/ProductPreview.asp?sid=67C8694D971D424EB276DD4B5C6BCEDB).

Does ANYONE here own this that could comment on it?  I'm really wanting to buy this thing, but I would like to hear someone's opinion first.  But like I said before... for only $89 how could I possibly go wrong?

For God's Sake, man, JUST BUY IT! BUY IT BEFORE I DO!!!

From what I understand, the electronic sabres aren't as exacting in their authenticity as their pricier counterparts, hence the price difference. Due to the inclusion of real-world electronic components, sacrifices had to be made. (No, they're not real. But hey, at $89?! I mean, C'MON! Get your credit card out!)

OK, I just ordered it and did the free shipping, and it says it will take 4-6 weeks before I receive it?????????  Why would it take so long to get it, when I could have done next-day or 2nd-day delivery for about $10?  Oh well, I guess I can wait that period of time.

But, I'm still very excited about getting this!  I can't wait for it!!!

Did anyone else here just recently order this?

Well Chris, I got a confirmation from KB the day after I ordered mine (above) that it had been shipped.  Nothing today, so I'm assuming tomorrow it'll arrive.  I'll give it a whirl and let you know the scoop on it (just have to keep it hidden from the wife for a little while).   ;)

But yeah, for $89 you can't really go wrong with this piece.  I saw it being displayed and used at C2, but I don't recall how durable the thing is - like can I smack it against my wife when she gets out of line without breaking it (or her)?   :P

David, did you not get this one?  If you did, LMK how the hilt detail compares between the two, 'cause like MPL said, and as I figured, this one probably isn't quite as accurately detailed.  Just curious how it stacks up to the fancy version...

UPDATE:  It just showed up at the office!   8)  I'll give it a whirl when I get home tonight...

I just got an email from Master Replicas stating that my lightsaber has shipped via Fed Ex Ground.  It doesn't have an ETA but probably in less than one week, because I went with the free shipping they are offering.

So Matt, did you finally take it out of the package and play with it yet?  I can't wait to start writing a review on this item.   ;D

So Matt, did you finally take it out of the package and play with it yet?

Sadly enough, not yet.  I didn't get home from the office 'til around midnight last night (aside from a quick Target run).  The wife was already asleep, so I didn't want to play funky Jedi Master bada$$ in the (small) house, and wake her up...  Hopefully I can pull it out and get medevil with it tonight though!   :D

I tried to stash it behind a table though, so Patty wouldn't notice it and start asking questions (like HOW MUCH WAS THAT?!?)...  I knew I'd have to 'fess up eventually though.  Well needless to say, 8:30 this morning... as I'm sound asleep... I get a tug on my leg, and wake up to "What's that big box behind the table?!?"  Ugh.  Didn't take her long...  For now, I just told her it was a cheap, commemorative baseball bat....   ;D  (it came in about a 4.5' long narrow box)

And c'mon now Dale...  This ain't part of the Hasbro line here.  Gotta open this bad boy up and bust some Sith booty with it, eh!?!   8)

I CAN'T WAIT!!!   ;D

Ugh.  Believe me when I tell you this, I haven't been home for anything other than to sleep over the last 4 days.  I put in 32 straight hours at the office through yesterday afternoon, finally went home and slept 16 hours straight, and was right back at it this morning.  Looks like I'm working all weekend too.   >:(  So to answer your question Chris, NO - still haven't even opened up my package yet.   :'(  Haven't even had a chance to go home and fart, let alone play with the new lightsaber.  Totally blows!

So tell me all about it when you get yours, so I'll know what to expect!   8)

Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: dustrho on May 10, 2003, 08:15 PM
It has arrived.  ;D

WARNING:  Let me first warn you about something.  The instruction manual was pretty good in telling you how to remove part of the hilt so you could put the batteries in, but it left out one important notice.  Do NOT tighten the hilt all the way, because you'll have the HARDEST time trying to loosen it.  You do not have to tighten it all the way... just tighten it almost all the way so those recessed lines match up.  It took me 20 minutes to loosen the thing because I tightened it too much.

I must say that I am very impressed with this.  Sometime in the near future I will take a videoclip of myself playing around with this.  It is cool and well worth the $89.

Matt, so what do you think about your new lightsaber?  I still haven't heard your take on it.

Really wish I could tell you Chris...

But it's unfortunately still sitting untouched in the box on our floor behind the table.  Haven't been home before midnight in over a week, so I still haven't even taken a peek at it yet.   >:(  And yes, that includes working the entire past weekend as well (aside from a brief 2 hour jaunt to Mother's Day brunch with the family)...  16+ hours a day at the office ain't fun, lemme tell ya'!   :-X

Maybe tonight though, as I'm determined to leave the office early to catch the Laker game (which is in about 15 minutes)!  ::fingers crossed::

Well, after chatting with a buddy who's already opened his Anakin saber up and given it a whirl, he convinced me to get off my lazy butt now that I've got a little free time, and do the same with mine!  Of course, this guy, who shall remain nameless (by his bidding/begging), has already taken out a large overhead light fixture from the ceiling of his master bedroom with his out of control lightsaber wielding Jedi antics, so I at least knew to keep my lightsaber slashing to a cautious minimum...   ;D  The good news is that his lightsaber withstood the battle with the light fixture, so at least we know the thing is pretty durable!   8)

SO...  I finally got mine out.  It's very cool looking - totally authentic...  Everything I've ever wanted since I was 7 years old.  A real lightsaber!  (practically)   Though I've yet to see a comparison shot with the standard (more expensive) MR lightsaber hilt, I'm guessing this one is just a tiny bit bigger, to hold the electronic effects and batteries.  Not noticeable at all really (at least to me).  The blade is made of a very sturdy polycarbonate-something rather, and is just the right length - right around 3 feet.  The blade itself is also just clear until it's ignited, at which time it turns blue.  The hilt is a foot, so we're talking a whopping 4 feet in total with this thing!  Some good girth to it as well.  Nice and weighty, for a very real feel to it...

I threw the batteries in, closed it up, and IGNITION!!!   Bzzzzz....  WOW!  It's really quite a beautiful thing when lit up!  Damned authentic looking.  Of course I had all the lights turned off and cautiously swung it around a few times.  I'm a real Jedi at this point!  No, seriously - I am.  Now where the hell is that sissy-a$$ Darth Maul at?!  I'm ready to give him a big piece of a real Jedi Master in action, 'cause I'm one BAD MF with my new lightsaber!!!

Unfortunately, I don't have a couple huge mirrors in my bedroom like my buddy did, to admire my handy work with this thing, but I'm sure my wife would tell you how adept I was with it!  Comes from years of reviewing tape, I'd imagine!

But... (there's always a but, isn't there?) then I noticed that the sounds effects that go with the "waving/slashing" of the saber seemed to be going off a little more than they should be, like when I wasn't moving the saber at all, so I was mildly concerned about that.  Even moreso when I glanced at the manual and saw that it was supposed to make several "contact sound effects" when struck against something - which mine didn't do at all...  (BTW, the speaker for the sound effects is nicely hidden at the very base of the hilt)

Then we went from bad to worse when I tried to turn it off.  It wouldn't turn off.  Though the lever was moved to the off position, it stayed fully lit and kept humming...  Uh-oh, Master Replicas - we have a problem...  I let it sit on the floor while it was still on, but in the off position, and finally, about 20 minutes later, the thing went Bzzzzz again and shut down.  So I pulled the hilt apart and checked the battery placement (6 brand new AA Duracell batteries I bought today).  Everything looked perfectly fine.  Closed it back up to see if my battery rattling might've fixed anything.

Flipped the switch back on and... NOTHING.  Uh-oh.  Really big problem now.  I'm quickly becoming a very disenchanted Jedi at this point!  I'm now considering a turn to the Dark Side, for sure.  On, off, on off.  Still nothing.  Finally turned it on, and just let it sit there.  And again, about 20 minutes later, Bzzzzz - the thing comes back to life.  Very strange.  Still wouldn't shut off again, and the other couple sound effect problems were still present.  So, after all was said and done, I had some fun with this brilliant looking collectible, but it unfortunately looks like I got a dud.  Bad electronics in mine apparently.  The box it was shipped in looked perfect (no outward damage), and I was very careful while gently swinging it around, so it's just the random malfunctioning saber I guess I got stuck with...   :'(

So now I've got to go through the entire hassle of returning it and exchanging it (hopefully) for another one.  Scored mine through KB.com, so I guess it's finally time to see how their customer service is I guess...

But aside from the malfunctioning electronics in my particular lightsaber, I've gotta say that this is one AWESOME piece of Star Wars memorabilia!  I'm sure I'll get a fully functioning one soon, and it will be even better.  But as it is, I would still HIGHLY recommend to anyone out there who's always wanted a realistic, life-like lightsaber to pick this bad boy up.  It's freaking beautiful!  Especially if you can still score one for the relatively affordable prices that they've been going for (as mentioned earlier in this thread).

Greatly looking forward to the Vader FX version that's on it's way soon as well!  Hopefully Master Replicas makes them all, just like with the regular hilts.  At the very least, I need a purple Mace and green Jedi Luke version as well!  Now the question is, what the hell should I do with my complete set of pathetic garbage Hasbro lightsabers now...?   :-[

Post by: JediMAC on May 19, 2003, 03:23 AM
OK, just got back from another Jedi Master butt kicking session with my lightsaber!  This time I took it out in the yard (in the middle of the night) and got medieval on some imaginary Sith.  Killed every last one of them, I did!  I LOVE this thing.  I tell ya', it's a REAL lightsaber, aside from the fact that is doesn't actually go through stuff.

Despite the on/off and sound effects problems with mine, just swinging it around in the dark, listening to it hum, watching the blue saber whirl gracefully through the dark...  It's the next best thing to actually being in the movies, or having the movies be "real life".  Take your pick.

I think this is my absolute favorite Star Wars collectible that I own now.  Too bad I still have to exchange it for one that works right...   :-\

So get off your duffs, and go buy yourselves one of these things, all you Jedi wannabes out there!!  Or if you're a Sith wannabe - wait for the Vader version due out soon.  I definitely say that either one is well worth the price tag...   8)
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: dustrho on May 19, 2003, 12:23 PM
Hey Matt, I was having somewhat similar problems to what you were experiening.  One thing that would happen is that I would turn it off and the lighting effect would turn off.  But the humming sounds would keep going and going.  That was weird, but I was amused by it.  That only happened a couple times with me, but I haven't had a problem with just turning the thing off.

I bought mine directly through Master Replicas... not through KB Toys.

The wooshing sound when you move it does happen more frequently than it should, but that's going to happen.  It has a motion sensor detector where you see the 6 tiny bubbles on the hilt (they don't light up).  If your hand is on it it's going to make that sound all the time.  If you move your hand away from that, and hold the hilt differently it doesn't happen that much anymore.

So, whoever didn't get this you can STILL get this for only $89 at Master Replicas!  They have extended the sale price until June 16.  Click here (http://www.masterreplicas.com/starwars/ProductsAnakinFXSaber.asp?sid=) to order one now!

Good question.  I too have the Anakin one that has the sound effects and the wisdom of previous Jedi Masters ( I never did play with it enough to become one myself) along with the others...now what?  I was thinking of giving one to each nephew (as they left the house of course ;) ) but I'm pretty sure my sisters would remind them to bring them back and play with them here!! :-\.

It's interesting to hear about the electronics in everyone sabers as I think everyone has had a flaw or two (or more) in their sabers.  I was always wondering if Vader was pushed back to fix the "quirks" that were found in Anakins.

So now I've got to go through the entire hassle of returning it and exchanging it (hopefully) for another one.  Scored mine through KB.com, so I guess it's finally time to see how their customer service is I guess...

Well, I decided to return my lightsaber directly back to Master Replicas under their warranty, since I knew they'd be able to replace it with another, whereas it looked like KB was out of stock on them.  So...

I called MR almost a month ago, and they immediately provided me with a FedEx label that I could just print out and use to return the saber to them on their shipping dime.  So big bonus points there.  Of course, I'm still left to actually handle the delivery to FedEx, which took me all the way up 'til just last week due to my abhorent laziness.  So I finally got the thing over to FedEx last Thursday (5 days ago).  Guess what arrived at my office today?  Yep, my replacement saber has already arrived!  Now that's good service!  Granted, I think it came from MR's office right here in L.A. (where I shipped mine to), so that might somewhat explain the speedy return.  Very good nonetheless.  Still have to take it home and give it a whirl though...

So does anyone else's Anakin saber make the four different "contact" sound effects (when you hit it against something) that are mentioned in the brochure?  'Cause my old one didn't, and Jim (chuckles) said his doesn't either.  Chris R., any input on yours?

I'll let you know how my new one checks out tonight, after I open up another can of Sith whoopass in the yard with it!   8)

As many of you know I am a big fan of replicas. I have a vast Lightsaber Collection. I just acquired the Master Replicas FX Lightsabers: Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader to add to my collection.

I have to say that these electronic, lightup, decor replicas are very neat.
When activated the lightsaber blade glows and makes lightsaber sounds.

The Anakin and Luke FX lightsabers must of been designed before the FX Darth Vader Lightsaber. When the Anakin and Luke Lightsabers are activated the blade just turns on. When the Darth Vader FX Lightsaber is activated the light in the blade actually travels up from the hilt to the end as shown in the Star Wars movies. Which I think is a neat little added feature to the FX series of Lightsabers.

Does anyone else here have the FX Lightsaber? What do you think of them? I say that they are a must for any fan of prop recreations.

Several of us here have the first Anakin version David, and we've had one helluva lot of fun with it!  One of my absolute most favorite collectibles, for sure!  You can check out my "review" of it, along with the rest of our prior conversation about it, right here (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=1082;start=msg12860#msg12860).   8)

The Vader and Luke sabers both came out at the same time just a couple weeks ago, but I can't comment on whether the Vader one was actually produced after the Luke one.  But I have heard about it having that cool "light up" effect that you just mentioned.  I'll definitely be adding these two new ones to my collection as well, but I think I'm going to shoot for a nice little sales price on them if possible, like I got last time on the Anakin version.  Hopefully that strategy doesn't come back to bite me in the ass though, if they wind up selling out at full price!   :P

Enjoy your sabers David!  Just watch out for overhead lights (read that thread I linked above)...   ;)

Go to FAO online as quick as you can.

I just snagged two Vader FX sabers for $85.90 shipped.  Ordered one for Jim and one for myself.  Picked up the tip off the front page of RS.

It lists the price as regular $139.95 but when you go to checkout it comes in with the much lower price.  It might be an error, but they'll have to stick by it as the total is all I'm willing to authorize, not the itemized amount.  Their error if anything (I hope) but it's worth the shot IMO.

Thread at RS on this topic (http://forums.rebelscum.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=27;t=000943;p=2)

Not clear if all the orders will go through, but it's reassuring to see that JoshEEE called to verify it was not just a glitch.  75% off :o  Hope my order goes through.

Glad to hear Josh confirmed the price over the phone, 'cause if they try to charge me a penny over my $46.79 invoiced price, there'll be hell to pay!

Dammit.   >:(  I'm not getting one...   :'(

No confirmation e-mail this morning, so I called FAO's customer service # with my order # to check on the status.  The lady said "no go."  I actually spoke to the lady who was taking all the orders yesterday, and she said they officially sold out of them at or around 5:15pm Eastern time yesterday.  I didn't place my order until about an hour and a half after that unfortunately.  She said there won't be any new stock coming in until possibly after the "change of ownership" or something to that effect, at which time the piece wouldn't even be on sale any more anyway.   :-\

So my search continues...  She said some confirmation e-mails even went out to people who shouldn't have gotten them as well, so I guess everyone should call in and check the status of their order, or just cross your fingers.

Brent, what time was your order?  Dave - 1am?  As in last night, or the night before?  If last night, then you're undoubtedly ass-out like I am, I'd imagine...

Well, congrats to the lucky few who got in on the action quick enough!  Enjoy those cheap and awesome FX sabers!

If anyone else sees this go on sale, give us a shout please!   :-*

Strange Matt. I placed my order this morning about 25 mins before my post above & I received a confirmation email with seconds. Just have to wait & see.  :-\

Can you call their customer service number Dale, to find out your status?  Dave too.  If they tell either of you that your fine, then I'm going to raise holy hell.  They told me that they've been trying since last night to take that item off of their website since it's sold out, but haven't succeeded yet - apparently 'cause they have idiot tech people...   ::)

But like I said, they've sent out some erroneous confirmation e-mails to people who ordered way after I did, so if any of you could call and verify, that would be cool...

Well, if I have the JD clock figured out properly I would have ordered at about 5:50 PM Central time or 7:50 PM eastern time.  That should indicate I am out of luck.   :-\  Are you sure she said Eastern?  Not Pacific :-[

Dale and I cannot call and confirm.  1-800 US numbers do not function in Canada.  I'll opt in to be an optimist and presume they'll show up on Jim's doorstep shortly.

Lot of Canuckleheads on snowtroopers are going to be unhappy.  I don't  think any of them ordered before me.  And I ordered maybe a half hour before you Matt.  45 minutes tops.

Yeah, Brents right. That 1-800 number is a no go up here. I have a bad feeling that a lot of people are going to be choked!  :-\

The Sabre is not showing up on the site anymore that I can see. I also checked my Order Tracking through the "My FAO" & nothing is showing up in there.  :'(

Can I clam false advertising?  :-\
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: JediMAC on January 15, 2004, 03:27 PM
Yep, she definitely said 5:15pm Eastern Standard Time, 'cause I was hoping she meant pacific time which would put me in the big dance on this piece.  But she verified that time to me, and said she took the FINAL order, and the subsequent one that was the first to be sold out, right around that time.

Hell, I'd love for her to be wrong so more people luck out on this great deal, but she sounded pretty damned confident in her responses.  If any people get their sabers who ordered AFTER me, I'm gonna be severely pissed off...

Dave, you may be the only U.S. person who can call their number, so give it a shot when you have a chance and let us know what they tell ya'.

Sorry to hear you guys missed out as well.  But in my own selfish little world, I am glad to see that people who ordered after me and still got confirmation e-mails didn't get the goods while I got screwed!  :P  That would've been somewhat irritating.

Brent, any word yet?

So the hunt for this great collectible continues...  Let's all keep an eye out, and hopefully we'll find another good deal soon!

No, not yet.  Best I've been able to do is check to see if anything has been posted to my CC.  Nothing has :( (which in an ironic sense, meaning February's bill, that's a good thing).

So thus far I have a confirmation email but no-sorry, you're hooped-email.  I don't know what to think.  I was clearly later than the time the lady gave you, but I don't know what's going to happen.  Let's just say I've lots of appendages crossed and I'm hoping I get a cheerful email from Jim saying a nice long box from FAO arrived at his place.   :-*

Is $225 US dlvd for a LE Vader ANH saber a good price?
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers

You'll have to get Adam or Beth to answer that for you, but off the top of my head (assuming you're referring to one of MR's regular lightsaber hilt replicas), I'd say hell yeah!  Those things went for $300+ on up to $500, I think...

It's a decent price.  I've seen them sell for $125-150 but lately I think the going rate is around $200-225.  With 7500 of them made, it's not one of the harder ones to find but I think it retailed at $349.00 when it first came out.

I guess if the delivery to your place is included in the price, you are not going to find it much cheaper.  I do notice you have US delivery so I'm not sure if you could save a few more bucks by holding out a little longer or not (this is assuming you have to pay more to get it to Canada).

I must warn you though, once you start down the props path, forever will it dominate your destiny :)

Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: Morgbug on February 26, 2004, 05:22 PM
Thanks Beth. I know this will be just the start :-\ :'( ;D

The price is delivered in Canada, so no additional shipping and no customs fees.  It is from a guy that no longer wanted his.  I just wasn't sure what they were going for elsewhere.

Bringing it over the border wouldn't have been a good thing.  We are taxed 14% on the converted US amount (plus $5 inspection fee ::)).  So being generous with the shipping amount, if it had been declared at $200 US, that converts roughly to around $250 Cdn, adding another $35 plus the $5 or $40 total >:(  That essentially is why I jumped at it.

Mace Windu Lightsaber FX  $119.99  ETA September.

The Mace Windu Lightsaber, Force FX Edition: Authentic sound & light with die-cast metal hilt. Master Replicas LLC brings you the world's first fully-electronic, studio-authorized replica of Mace Windu's weapon. The hilt of the lightsaber is constructed from durable die-cast metal components. This FX lightsaber also features a permanently attached polypropylene blade which encases an electro-luminescent (EL) core. Once activated, the blade glows brightly and the replica plays back digitally recorded sound effects take directly form the film including power-up, idle hum, swing, clash and power-down. Integrated sensor switches control the pitch and playback of the lightsaber sounds, including an impact sound when the blade encounters an obstacle.

Dimensions (46.5"L x 1.75"H x 2.5"W) and weight (approximately 2 pounds) are to scale from the original props. Finished dimensions are subject to change.

Stands available for FX sabers at $17.99.

Hmmm.

I think it'll look very cool once someone's got the complete set, and snaps a pic of the blue, green, red, and purple sabers all lit up next to eachother...

That's my plan someday.  I've just gotten a little lazy with the Vader and Luke ones.  Anyone seen any decent prices on them lately?  Our Vader FX Saber thread died off after that damned FAO fiasco...   :-\

Yes, FAO bad, tree pretty.

I own precisely none of these (though I do have a regular Vader MR now).  I would like all of them, but that's $400 US smackers at reasonable prices.  Haven't seen a Vader for a while, but they were sitting at some places for $99 each.

I just tried to order one from MR (the Vader one) and it kept giving me a different price at the "submit" page.  Sure, it was a cheaper price but I had a feeling it wasn't going to come with the stand so I didn't "submit" the order.

It was like visiting SWS.com  :-X :P

Well, just to bump this up as I received this magnificent prop a few weeks back and have been having a blast with it.  More people have wanted to see this one than any of the others.  The sound and lighting are top notch and getting the stand for free was an added bonus.  I liked it so much I decided to order Luke's too!!  That box arrived today but the people that worked at sws.com have relatives that work at MR because I received another Vader saber instead.  It wouldn't be such a big deal but when I called, they had to look in to "why" (Uhm...someone grabbed the wrong item off the shelf, it's really not too difficult to understatnd) and stated that they could NOT send me Luke's until they made a "case number" up and sent the email to headquarters.  I have no idea why they even have a customer service line if everytime someone calls they have to talk with headquarters first  ::).

Oh well...if you are thinking about an f/x, I really recommend Vader but keep in mind that Mace's will be out in the fall and a purple blade is going to be very cool!!!

Nice pickup Beth!  I've just recently started eyeing the eBay auctions on these (MIMSB), so I hope to be snagging one soon myself finally.  What'd SWS.com charge for it?  I've heard the Luke one isn't quite as cool as the Vader one though.  Doesn't have the "power-up lighting" effect like Vader's.  More like Anakin's, where the whole thing just lights up at once.  Still way cool though, and I can't wait to get all four of these bad boys together one day, and have a big ol' night time lightsaber party!   8)
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: jadesfire on June 9, 2004, 05:38 PM
I've read the same things about Luke's.  I think that is why Vader's is just so damn cool, that initial "lighting-up" and "powering-down" effect and sound make it the best part.
I never did get around to buying Anakin's before they were sold out so if I want all four colors, I am going to have to go to Ebay.  I got the saber (w/stand) for $98.95 shipped.  It was a special offer to collector circle members through Master Replica.

Awesome picture David!  What's the 5th saber you have in there, a custom?

Also, I assume that's the ROTJ Luke one in the middle there.  It doesn't look very green though.  Is it just the picture, or is that how it looks in real life?  I was hoping it would stand out and contrast against the blue (Anakin) one a lot more...

Also, does the Mace saber have the same "firing up" ignition that the Vader one has, or is it just regular like the Anakin and Luke ones?

Great photo!!  I never got Anakin's so I only have the four recent ones.  I am waiting to see what Philip comes up with for a display piece.  I'm not fond of the verticle one they have shown so I am hoping for a pick between vertical or horizontal.  My only complaint is I wish you could control the "power up" noise because I'd like to turn them on and leave them lit but the sound is annoying.

OK, am I having a total brainfart now?  Are there really five altogether?  I only though it was Anakin's blue, Vader's red, Luke ROTJ's green, and Mace's purple.  Is there a fifth one that I don't remember?  An Obi-Wan blue, perhaps?  Oy, someone please explain to this senile old man what's going on...   :P

MR's upcoming FX lightsabers for 2005, courtesy of Adam:

Anakin Skywalker FX Lightsaber Ep. III--Q2
Darth Vader FX Lightsaber Ep. V--Q2
Obi-Wan Kenobi FX Lightsaber Ep. III--Q3
Darth Vader FX Lightsaber Ep.III--Q3

All I gotta say is TWO MORE Vaders?  That makes 3 altogether.  Why?  Another Anakin?  Different than the first one?  A little shorter, I'd assume...

As usual, I'll probably wait to find a good price on these before finally biting on them.  Definitely some great collectibles though.  Some of my all-time favorites, actually.   8)

For me, the f/x sabers are nice because my more expensive props are mainly a "hands-off" display where these are fun since you can light 'em up when showing them off and are pretty well made.  My nephews liked swirling them around to hear the sounds as well as seeing the glowing blade.  They are, however, not quiet when you turn them on and it's hard to just keep more than one lit up at one time due to that very reason.

All in all, I like them and will be picking up the new ones as well.

Still, under $100 on ebay (at times) plus shipping and if you miss the customs fees, it's cheaper that way.  14% tax drags it right up to $170 ::)

I don't see how you guys survive with a 14% tax I really dont. Is that Nationwide or uh...not states...damn...oh, Provincewide?

I couldn't stand it. I'd freak out. I hate the 8% already, and there's rumor that they want to jack it up to 9%.

Sheesh.

14%...If that happened here people would riot in the streets and turn over bus's and cars!

Used to be just 7%, provincial tax.  That varied depending on the province.  Dale/Alberta has no provincial tax.  Then back around 1993 they brought in a federal tax, the Goods and Services Tax = GST.  Another 7%.

Best part, the governing party was intent on bringing it in, the opposition party promised prior to the election they would not vote it in.  Damn near the first thing they did when got into power was bring it in >:(  ******** up here still vote for that party and they've been in power now for 13 years >:( >:( >:(

Its original intent was solely to pay down the federal deficit.  Go figure, they managed to find other uses for it. >:(  Like bumping up the salaries of federal politician's.  Trust me, whenever you hate the US government system, just look north to see what abuse really looks like :'(

They're VERY cool Jason.  When I got that first Anakin one, I took that puppy out in the yard at night and started whirling it around n' ****, and I swear I thought I was a freakin' Jedi.   8)  One of our other illustrious members here got medieval with one in his master bedroom in front of their mirror closet, and took out their overhead cealing light and fan!  Thing didn't even break.  :o  Very nice items, very realistic, and very fun.  One of the cooler SW collectibles IMO.  I'd definitely recommend one.  I still have to catch up on a lot of the previous ones, but it sounds like I may be OK, since they're rehashing a bunch of them (probably better versions too) for their ROTS line.

OK, so I finally broke down and got the Ep.III Anakin and Ep.V Vader.  I saw on Rebelscum how Babbage's/Game Stop is selling these and how they are also doing a deal right now on trade in games.  Basically, any 3 games you bring back, regardless of what the store credit total is they will slap $10 on top of that.  So today I went to my local GameStop looking for SportsPicks and saw 5 Vaders and 1 Anakin F/X.  Started talking to the guy and realized how many Xbox games I have that I no longer play or just never got into.  So, I brought a bunch in, took advantage of that extra $10 for every 3 and long story short, got both sabers for $32.38 cents!!!   ;D  I just took them in the garage, killed the lights and MAN these things kick ass!  Unbelievable!  So glad I got them.  Now, where to put them?

I dont think i will be getting the new ones because i don't think they look different enough to warrant another purchase, ESB Luke is VERY similar to Anakins ROTS saber and the vader ones to me look identical.
Just my 2 cents

As far as the light up on the blue vs the red.  Which would you say gives a better (stronger?) look?

I got one at C3.  The main difference, as the MR guy said, was that the NEW sabers take less batteries, have higher quality sounds, better electronics, and the blade lights up substantially brighter...

It's $20 more ($120) than the older sabers...  I bought an E3 Anakin saber (blue blade), and it is incredibly bright/vibrant, it has great sound, and for $20 more I think it was well worth the price ultimately...  Hell it takes less batteries, there's really no reason to get the older ones now I think.

I dig it...  cats and dog hate it.  :)

Seeing all of these around has me eyeing them up too.  The battle during the opening ceremonies was sure good proof that these things are pretty tough :o  Vader is a must have, but I also want Mace and one of the Luke's.  Obviously a green saber would be sweet, but ebay has taken those over the top lately :o

Retailer recommendations would be great.  And BTW, if the new sabers are what TRU is carrying up here, then that price isn't so bad for Canadian $$ given these are up $20 US from original.

Sounds like Jesse and I bought the same one at C3, and for the same reasons. You should have come over to the party room, TN-Daniel picked up the Vader, so we could have had an awesome threesome  :o

Threesomes?  Wait, what?  oh!

Yeah, I saw the saber on Friday (my greatest day ever, as I have come to call it), and I said to myself, "Jesse, you're not gonna be able to afford vintage at this show, so buy yourself a saber because man, you deserve it!", and with that I did.

Girlfriend just rolled her eyes when I got back to the hotel room, then I smacked her with the saber to display the "crash" effect.  Bwahahaha

Master Replica did state that they were sending these in mass quantities to all the big dscount stores.  I've seen the older ones last fall at Meijers and I know that Walmart had/has them online.  I guess Borders is selling them as well (and on sale) but as for which one....I'd go with Vader....no, Anakin....no Luke...oh hell, buy all three!! ;)

Okay.  I picked up the E3 Anakin Saber today.  Big mistake.  Now im hooked.  Will be picking up the new Vader within the next couple of weeks.  If only this thing had existed when I was about 10 years old :P

They had preorders for the Mace saber where I went as well.  I know this is a re-release.  Any ideas if they will be updating it to the current sabers or if it will have the old specs?

Now if they would only make a Dooku and a Yoda it would be pretty cool.

Are these old, or new?  They are re-releasing the Vader with the newer ignition for the blade and less batteries, aren't they?  I'm so confused.

I want Vader, period.  I'll try and score Mace too, just because of the unusual blade color and more ornate handle.  Then it's a blue saber of some sort, unless Luke's ROTJ saber comes around again. :-\

Ok, since this is the official thread, I have a couple of questions:

1. Are they re-releasing the FX Mace saber in the next couple of weeks (I'll toddle off to EE in a minute to check myself, but always like to have confirmation).

2.  Are the re-releases all new versions with the improved (relative to their older releases) electronics?

3.  What is a decent (i.e. below MSRP) price for these?

Thanks :)

1) Either it's a released saber or an episode 3 saber....anyone can confirm?
2) I thought there are no re-release so far from FX. The latest FX (3 batt) are Anakin's eps 3 saber and Vader's eps 5 saber.

The Windu FX saber WILL be re-released.

I think a good price below SRP is about $90 - you have to be diligent though.

I cannot comment on the "improved" electronics.  I would like to purchase a Vader FX saber  - looks like fun.

Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: Morgbug on May 3, 2005, 02:03 PM
Thanks guys.  I can't seem to find much for the Mace saber.  EE doesn't have it listed and seemingly few other sites do (I only found one but can't remember the name right now ::) and they had it at $119.99).  I know Borders and other retailers had it at one time, but I'm trying to gauge what the release will be like so if places like Best Buy, Borders and others are getting it I should be able to score one for $99 or so.

I'm also a bit stuck in most respects because I'm up in Canada.  Very few places carry these things, if any at all.  TRU is supposed to be carrying them and outside of ordering through a comic shop (probably more expensive than online directly) I'm sort of out of luck.  We don't have a variety of retailers carrying these things as is the case south of the border.  I can make the 2.5 hour drive (one way) to Grand Forks or even tack on an extra hour to make it to Fargo if they're widely distributed but with the price of gas, I'm about at break even at best versus an online retailer.

As for Vader, I guess I've not been thinking too clearly not realizing that the new version was Ep V.  That's fine with me really, I only want a single Vader saber and if it's newer with better electronics and requires fewer batteries, well, I can live with that.

You're welcome!

I've never been a big fan of Windu's saber.  It's too bling bling for my taste...and it's purple - too feminine!

 ;)

My blade has to be red!   :P

Yeah, I know :-[ but something about the character and that blade/handle really appeals to my, err, feminine side?  I've basically wanted to get only one of each color in time, so red, blue, green and that leaves purple.  Windu's pretty kick ass as a character, so what the heck.  I completely agree about the red though, my first choice has always been to get a Vader saber.

I've decided to go this way and get rid of all my Hasbro electronic sabers.  They're fun and all, but after seeing the FX sabers in person, well, WOW.

Collector's Gallery Online (http://www.collectorsgalleryonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CG&Product_Code=MACEFXSABER) has it for $119.99 plus the shipping.

I can find online retailers in jolly, old England and Australia, but the prices leave a bit to be desired :o

Surprisingly the Mace saber is not listed on the MR website >:(

The Vader saber is (http://masterreplicas.com/customer/starwars/starwars_product_detail.php?pid=8387) and is the three battery version.

Of course Vader is easy to find at $99 through a variety of retailers.

Where did you pick up Mace and for how much if I may be so nosey?

I picked it up at Gamestop.  I bought my Anakin last weekend and they had that as well as the Vader and said that they would be receivng a few Maces.  Lucked out and got one for $99.  Same as the others.  I really like the design on the Mace better, but the sound quality is not as good as the other 2.  The Anakin is probably the better of the 3.  I believe it has a few more sounds.  The Mace is not the updated style like the Vader and Anakin.

These come with stands, but was wondering if anyone makes stands to hold multiple sabers?

This is probably a dumb question, but I haven't kept up on these 100%, and I was curious how many (which ones) of these FX sabers there are?  I'd really like to get one, eventually, but due to the price being $100+, I just want to choose one to have.  I saw on Wal-Mart.com they seem to have an Anakin and also a Vader saber, are there any others that are out?  Luke or Obi-Wan as well?  Also, where is the best place to pick these up?  Thanks for any info.

Edit:  I also see via MR's website that they have a Luke saber listed as well, release date of this summer.

Jeff is one of the best people to deal with on the web.  His Mace Saber  (http://www.thesabervault.com/MasterReplicasWinduATOCFX.html) is the best price I've seen and if he doesn't ship to Canada (I know its free shipping in the USA), I can order it for you and ship it to me and then forward it on to you.  You'd only have to pay the actual shipping cost from me to you.

Oh dear, we have the same questions going on in three different threads, mostly my bad.  There's fx questions in the official MR thread, then one done in Watto's.

There are to the best of my knowledge five that were released that required six batteries and had varying degrees of electronics (i.e. the blade lit up entirely, or the light moved up the blade; also the quality of the sounds was somewhat variable.

The first five were:

Anakin AOTC blue blade
Darth Vader ANH
Luke Skywalker ESB blue blade
Luke Skywalker ROTJ green blade
Mace Windue AOTC purple blade

The new sabers being released from the MR site are:
Anakin ROTS blue blade
Vader ESB red blade
Luke ESB blue blade

All three are the "improved" electronics.
plus the Mace saber is being re-released apparently, but I'm not quite certain which version it is: six battery or three.

A nifty link courtesy of Beth in the proper thread is right here (http://www.thesabervault.com/titlepage.html) Thanks again Beth :)

Yes someone has made stands to hold multiple ones.  It's like a pool cue rack.  I never got one since I didn't want my sabers displayed that way and am looking into buying a baseball bat rack.  I've seen a set displayed that way and that's the best one, IMHO.

If you need more info, just drop me a pm.

I tried mine on one that my in-laws have and the saber doesn't lay straight.  One would think it would work but the "arms" are very far away from one another and the saber lays at a funny angle.  It could be due to the type of gun rack but I don't know that much about rifles.  All I know is this particular one didn't work but maybe a different type would.

If you're good with woodworking, this is something that would be a good project.  My father just made a rack for some rifles of his and I'm pondering a rack for FX Sabers now myself.  Be a worthy investment if I'm nabbing more than one saber, which after this one I'm feeling an overwhelming urge to pick up at least different colored ones (A Vader maybe, a Jedi Luke, and a Mace)...

These are great though.  :)

I don't know if these would work, but Parksabers makes a display stand for their sabers that holds the blade.

I don't know if the FX blade is detachable or not, but if so, they could be an option.

I hear ya.  Now, if only they would re-release that Green Luke Saber.  I really dig the hilt on it.

I was reading a interview with MR and they will not be doing a Dooku or Yoda saber :'(  Because of the shape and size of both hilts, it would be hard to do the electronics.  Plus, they thought that the Dooku saber would not be popular. ???

Gamestops are your cheapest bets folks.  They are selling the Vader and Anakin at $99 and some are receiving the Mace as well for the same price.

Anyone know if the Green Luke will be re-released?  Do any sites out there still have any of these available?  The aftermarket prices suck.

Does anyone know which is next in the line?  Ive heard Maul, which would not interest me.

I've done about 20 pages worth of google searching for the Luke F/X ROTJ saber and no joy. It might be out there, but I haven't found it.  That would be the third saber I'd like to get, a green version.  That would leave only a blue saber to choose and there would be three choices for that - two Anakin and one Luke, but I think that first Anakin has gone up in price on the secondary market as well.  I'd probably opt for the newest Anakin version.

I really haven't heard too many good things about the Luke ROTJ F/X saber.  I assume you just want it from a completist standpoint?  Personally, the Luke ESB saber is outstanding.  It's just before the new design (where they are lighter and more accurate to scale), but the light up is excellent!

I'm not used to being such a newbie on message boards.   8)  When can I get a better color lightsaber?   ???
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers

Now I think the Luke ROTJ saber is just about perfect.  The weight of the saber is more balanced than the other three (but that's just me) and I can manuver it a lot easier (former band majorette so I have a lot of fun with this thing).  The blade color is decent and the only thing that would improve it is "power up" lighting.

PS:  Did you get your two sabers yet Morgbug??

In answer to your second question first:
     0 - 99          Jedi Apprentice
   100 - 999        Jedi Knight
 1,000 - 2,499    Jedi Master
 2,500 - 7,499    Jedi Council
 7,500 +              Yoda

Only need to hit 100 for the loss of the hideous yellow saber ;)  And by the way, welcome :)

In response to your first question, nope, not a completeist (blasphemy, I know).  Just that I want one FX of each colour and that is the only available green saber.  I'm a bit of an OT purist (but obviously not completely given I want an FX Windu) so I'd rather have a Luke saber than say if they came out with a Qui-Gon saber.  I could live with the latter, but prefer the former.

PS: Did you get your two sabers yet Morgbug??

I emailed Jeff, but perhaps not in time.  The Mace saber is showing out of stock :'(  Haven't heard back yet but I did drop your name ;)  Hopefully he'll still have one kicking around as the only other place I've found it online is Collector's Gallery for $119 plus shipping.  A bit of a price difference there.

I know Gamestop carries them, but the closest one is 2.5 hours away by car, so it's not a practical drive as that would eat up most of a tank of gas anyway.  Maybe I'll just become a selective OT purist and leave it at that.

The last Luke ROTJ saber I saw on eBay was at 550 bucks and counting!  That was just after C3.  I don't like the fact the hilt is thicker than the movie version, which is obviously due to the blade.  Having the Anakin Ep.III saber will allow me to pass on the ESB Luke, but I may get a new/improved Windu when they hit.  I absolutely love my Anakin and ESB Vader sabers.  My nephew and I battle with them all the time.

I don't think it's an exclusive.  At least no rep from MR at C3 mentioned that.  It is so cute (if a lightsaber can be cute??).  I saw it at C3 and just loved it.  As for MR's web site, well, that is a work in progress and I see more new products usually at other sites before MR puts 'em up.

I have told the Mrs. for awhile now that I would like to get one of these, and she is talking about it for a birthday present this summer possibly.  It is an awful lot of money, but I guess it could be my one "high end" collectible :).  I was curious, on MR's site, it lists the Anakin (ROTS), Vader, as well as a Luke (ESB) saber "coming this summer".  I think if I chose just one, I'd sooner go with a Luke saber, just more of a connection to the OT.  Is that saber indeed coming this summer, and if so, does anyone know exactly when?  Also, is there a better place to order from than MR's site?  I have seen them at Wal-Mart.com, Target.com, as well as SWShop all for cheaper prices, although I think they only have the Anakin saber from what I have seen.

I would check some retail in your area.  It makes things convenient if you have to return. These will be hitting more local stores come this summer.  I have seen them at local Walmarts, TRU, Gamestop, Borders and Walden Books.  Also have seen them at Comic shops.  I believe Spencers Gifts may of had them as well.

As far as the Luke saber, it is the next to be releaesed.  Dont know why they did not re-release Lukes ROTJ saber.  Still keeping my fingers crossed since I would like one of each color.  This will make the 3rd Blue Saber released.  BTW, if anyone is still thinking of the re-release Mace saber, go for it.  I said earlier that some Gamestops will be receiving limited stock and they definitely will go quick.  The unique color makes it worth it.

I have the Luke ESB F/X saber, and it is a thing of beauty!  It lights up and powers off just as the new ones do, but is a bit bigger and bulkier, due to requiring 6 batteries (instead of 3, as the new Vader ESB and Anakin ROTS do).  It is my favorite saber design, and has the most sentimental value for me, so I went with it.  In retrospect, I would probably still go for Luke's, even though Anakin's is pretty simillar, but closer in size to an "actual" lightsaber.

Basically, even though Luke's is newer, it is still bigger than the new generation F/X sabers (the Anakin and Vader sabers  mentioned previously), but still has the new generation sounds and light up features.  For my money, there was no other choice!   ;D

You're making me jealous.  I need that green one dagnabbit.  Here's hoping they do re-release it sometime in the near future.  I really like the hilt on it as well, as it's quite unique.

Yeah, not sure if I like it more for the color or hilt.  I would like know how they determine which sabers will get made next.  Would make sense to do a survey with the collectors of these things.

I'll concur and will mention he's away until Sunday, so if you email him, you'll have to wait for a response.  He sure seems like a good guy based on my limited contact and I'll heartily agree those prices look good.  I'm just waiting to hear about the Mace Saber and I'll be ordering a couple from him.

The only other MR piece I have is a full size Vader hilt.

Thank you so much for that link jadesfire, definitely looks like some nice prices there...and from what you guys are saying, sounds like a good guy too.  I don't have any MR products yet, but I've always thought they look amazing, and I'd really like to start off with one of these FX sabers.  I really would like the ESB Luke one, but the ROTS Anakin one is a bit cheaper, and doesn't look too much different.  Plus, it is the "new" 3 battery style...although I don't know if that makes any difference or not :P.  Thanks again.

Bit of a nasty problem I have there.  Try not to take me seriously unless I point out that I'm actually being serious.  With respect to the Luke saber, it's just jealousy at not having it nor currently being able to get it at a reasonable price.  nothing more.

I've fallen so far behind on the FX sabers, that I barely know where to start with catching up now.  Seems like there's been so many versions released that I've totally lost track of things.  I'll have to spend a while perusing the tail end of this thread to re-educate myself on these great pieces.

Thanks for the link, but I'm going to play Devil's Advocate and be optimistic at the same time:

Quote
The LEs will always be our core product but we have so many orders for FXs that those are a focus of the company now. Those, and the minis. We've gotten tons and tons of orders for the minis

I think they'll re-release the Luke ROTJ FX saber based on that statement alone.  Companies must pay attention to the secondary market.  These were never stated as limited.  They've got newer, better electronics.  Why not bite into some of that money that's flowing through ebay?

I understand the point on the oddity of it because the neck has to be relatively huge, but people obviously still want it.

No real big deal to me, I just want a green FX saber.  If they do another version down the road, that's fine.  I'm not adamant about Luke, just want one of each color.

Well monkey boy   ;), there was an article for that on sirsteve's website that featured an interview with the big cheese of Master Replica.  The LE already came out, and would run you around $450 or so on the secondary market.  The .45 is available now, but only if you join the Collector's Society (I did  ;D), and as for the FX, the interview said that is one of their most popular requests, and they are undecided on it, because it would be so long, but it would definitely be cool!!!

FYI Brian-Master Replica is selling a mini Maul now that is battle damaged (chopped in half by Obi-Wan).  I just ordered it, and should have it pretty soon.  I'll show you it when I get it.  :)

A Maul saber would be really cool, and I'll back up Jedidz23 on saying I read the same in the link he provided.  What would be a neat trick is to have the Maul saber able to split in the center allowing for a much smaller shipping box.  A simple twist lock device would probably be sufficient to secure the two ends to each other.

If they did it that way it would serve as a neat way to do an Asajj saber as well in the FX line.

I do think it would sell well at double the cost of a regular FX (around $250 MSRP) but it would be so very cool.  Though I can certainly understand their trepidation given how some items they thought would sell really well didn't.  I think they'd have a pretty good gauge ahead of time of how popular this would be based on their feedback and contact alone.  I think most people that collect these pieces, while not as high end as the LE type stuff, do understand there is a certain price point that would have to be met for it to be worthwhile for MR to do this.  I think those people would spend the money to get one.  I know I would 8)

True dat, JediSearch!  That is a great deal.  The Vader FX from ESB is really nice, and that is a sweet price.   It seems like they are always cheaper if you don't buy them from Master Replica.  Since this one (Vader ESB) is the next generation of FX technology, it is lighter and closer in size to the actual prop.  I must admit, I am tempted, but will probably wait to see if a Vader ROTS saber is produced.

Just 13 hours until the midnight show!!!

You should call Master Replica to sign up for their Collector's Society. You can't sign up through the web yet, but they are accepting phone orders. They said the Darth Maul .45 full size will ship in early June, and that it will be retired in December. The cost is $59.95, but I guess all of the coupons that come with the CS and the Maul mini should cushion the blow. Here is the number:
call 1-866-REPLIKA

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on the 25% offers Jesse, I really appreciate that.  I think I might have talked my wife into letting me get a saber now with that offer.  She said it could be my birthday present, but it says on MR's site that they are backordered - available summer, so I'm not sure if it will get here by then (end of June).  I've always leaned towards getting a Luke saber, but the newer Anakin is cheaper (supposedly better with less batteries/better electronics), and I suppose about the same anyways...or at least it is supposed to be since its a "hand me down" right? ;)

I love these FX sabers, but the only problem with them is that they are huge.  I am running out of space!  Nice problem to have, I suppose.   :D

I am really debating getting Anakin's ROTS as well.  I know there are significant differences between his and Luke's ESB, but I'm knd of like Morgbug in that I would kind of like to have one of each color, and I already have blue.  Such decisions... ;)

Anybody have a picture of the hilt from Kit Fisto?  I think that would make for a nifty green saber and would eliminate the issues they had with Luke's ROTJ.  I can't think of another suitable character for a green saber.  At least Fisto is a major Jedi character.

Brent - Over at Scum in the "Ask Amy" thread, she confirmed the Maul for '06 and it looks like it'll be where you can buy 2 of them and attach them to make the full hilt.  Pretty kick ass.  Still no plans for a Qui-Gon though!!   >:(

Yeah, it amazes me w/ how popular Qui-Gon was that they have yet to do ANY kind of MR of him, yet they re-do others w/ their EE editions and LE editions.  It's ridiculous.  It's getting to the point now where if they do release a Qui-Gon saber, it'll sell out in a second.

I have seen it, it is pretty cool.
The fact that TRU has the 14.99 is even cooler.

Yep. Somehow TRU got them and have had them at the price of 14.99.
I keep buying SW stuff and passing on it though, as I don`t have any LOTR
stuff. Can`t go wrong at that price though!

MR has confirmed (about half way down this thread) that they are re-releasing the ROTJ Luke F/X w/ the updated technology, but it is going to be extremely limited.  It will only be available through retailers.

Very cool news indeed.  I have the original so that will do for me but I'd follow the RS thread or email Jeff directly about ordering one if he's able to get them.

I thought it was rather odd to come with two bookmarks but hey....if that's how to get around the "no we won't be re-releasing it directly" quote MR has been throwing around then that's cool for those that want it!!

Amy confirmed it was Borders.  The closest one to me would be an 8 hour round trip!! :-\

I'd get it if it was the "power-up" version and easily available but since that looks like it's not the case, I guess I'll have to pass.  (Unless, JD is able to pull off a miracle!! ;)).

Back by popular demand!

We're happy to announce the rumors are true, we are currently producing an all new LED version of our original Luke Skywalker Return of the Jedi Force FX Lightsaber as a U.S. Exclusive

The ROTJ FX will also be available to a small number of key international retailers as well.

No Borders near here at all.   I'm still not clear what books have to do with selling lightsabers (I guess if you throw in two bookmarks that makes it a good store of choice) but at least they are re-doing them.  I feel bad for those that forked over $500.00 plus for the old version. :P

Yeah, stick with the Saber Vault.  Hes a great dealer, plus a guarantee to get one.  I ordered mine today as well.  This will at least give me all 4 flavors.

Blue - Anakin ROTS
Red - Vader ESB
Purple - Mace
Green - Luke ROTJ

With anyone wondering about the Mace Saber.  It is a dull purple.  I guess they did not even use purple lights in these ???  It was a combo of blue and red that gave the purple tint.

Anyone know where to get a custom stand for these? I found one that holds 3 sabers but nothing larger.

Are there only seven current FX sabers?

Anakin EP2
Anakin EP3
Luke EP5
Luke EP6
Vader EP 4
Vader EP5
Mace EP2

Looks like the Obi-Wan EP3 is pushed off til 2006 along with the 2-piece Maul.   Also a rumor that the blasters will get the FX treatment.  Wonder what the retail will be for these.

Philip had some made and you can find more about them over at RS.  I think they hold five.  I didn't want my saber's displayed like pool sticks so I passed on ordering it.  I have yet to see anything better than a baseball bat rack.

Parksabers has a stand to display their sabers, but you have to remove the blade (there's a spot for the blade on the stand).

Instead of a baseball bat holder, how about one for Pool Cues?  I'm not saying it will work, just brainstorming.

I hadn't grabbed one of these yet, but saw one locally and broke down, 'picked up the Vader ESB and it’s phenomenal! When I first ignited it I had to control myself from freaking out… but I have a slight concern- for the clash sound to work I have to hit it really hard against something (I’ve been trying it against pillows cause I don’t want to crack the blade), is this the way they are supposed to function? Or is my saber a bit wonky? Anyone out there please let me know, cause if it’s faulty I'd like to exchange it asap before they're gone! Thanks a googolplex!!

Mine is fairly sensitive for the clash sound, not requiring all that much effort at all.  I don't know if there's variability to it or not, but yours sounds different from mine.

All 3 of mine are like this.  Although if I strike one against another one of my sabers, the clash sound can be accomplished with alot less force.

Thanks for your comments! I exchanged it today; the one I took works a little better, though the sensor could still be more sensitive imo. Nevertheless it’s probably the most fun toy I’ve bought in years. Hopefully soon they release a Luke blue saber in the smaller 3-battery format, the ROTS is close but the different little details would grate at my  perfectionist bastard attitude.

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

After seeing a post from Hemish in the Classifieds section about an MR ROTJ Luke FX Saber, I got to wondering if it's the same type of saber as the ones shown in the link below (please no mocking of my inability to take a decent photograph  :D):

http://www.ffurg.com/c3/gallery/album03/04_25_05_216

I looked through this thread and didn't find a specific reference to this type of saber for Luke in ROTJ and I couldn't find anything on MR's website.

I was just thinking the other day that if MR came out with such a saber, I'd like to get one. So is this a saber that's coming out, and if so when? Or is this just a pipe dream?

Thanks!

I've already got the original Luke ROTJ saber, but i remember reading that MR were rereleasing it again with the new lights that actually run up and down the saber.

Yeah if they were to release the Luke ROTJ saber with the lights that go up and down, I'd be all over it. Hopefully they will, or have already.

The Luke sabers have hit Borders.  Same hilt as the original but the color is definitely more vibrant than the first release.

So I wonder which is next after the Maul?  Im not particularly looking forward to that release.  Would of been nice for a Yoda or Dooku but it seems due to shape and size MR would not be able to produce.

The only thing I don't like about these f/x sabers is that you can't turn them on for display without that constant "hum".  I'd love to just turn them on and let them sit when company is over but each one has a different "hum" and it's just too annoying.  I can turn "Sting" on and I don't have that problem.  I am hoping for two settings down the road as they make these, one for light only and then one with light and sound.

I would love too see a Count Dooku.  I really don't like it when the saber doesn't look like the one in the movie.  Lukes is horrible, and since Obi's is skinny at the end too, they will make it fat to fit the blade.  Count Dookus would be a better choice along with Sidious.  Also I think Asajj Ventress sabers would be wicked!!

I'd bet they're watching the sales of the Maul saber(s) before committing to a an Asajj saber.  I think if Maul meets sales expectations we'll see that pair of sabers come down the pipe before too long.

What's the price on the Luke sabers at Borders?  I've got some store credit there floating around here somewhere that may entice me to go nab one finally...  Glad I didn't pick up the first one without the light up/down technology.

Question:  Does the Mace saber have the light up/down technology too, or has that only been in the Vader saber so far?

The price is supposed to be $119, but some have found them for $99.00

Use the coupon though for 10% off Coupon (http://www.bordersstores.com/features/feature.jsp?file=coupon_survey1)

The only saber that does not have the light up / down is the original Anakin from AOTC.. and of course the original Luke ROTJ.

A while back someone posted a picture somewhere about how they displayed their sabers.  I actually saved the picture but the properties don't tell me where I got it from and I have a question.  It shows two saber's crossed like an "x" on a yellow wall with a spotlight on them.  It looks fantastic but I have no idea what the owner used to get them hung.  Has anyone seen this?  Any help on pointing me to the guy that has this display would be greatly appreciated.

PS;  I'd post the picture but I can't link from webshots but I can send it to anyone who wants to see it.

Scroll down for the FX brackets (http://www.eitsrc.com/fxsabers.htm).  They look really nice, but pretty pricey for what you get.  I'd think these may lend themselves to crossing over, though you'd have to block one ring out from the wall.

Durability, I've found, is rather high...  I got the E3 Anakin saber and it takes a whack.  I wouldn't go nuts dueling with it, but you can clank it around some and it doesn't break.

Cool?  It's scored a 73.  :)

Seriously though, it's fun...  People who aren't even huge fans seem to oggle these things if they see them.

The Vader Saber is easy to find, it's the ROTJ Luke one that's been a bitch to pick up at Borders I've found.  A new Borders opened at a new mall near me and so far it's not on any major toy runs so none of the collectors I know of have been going near it...  They had 4 I think of the Luke and Vader sabers (4 each that is), and I figured since it's a lower traffic place I may be able to hold off on getting it till I got some $ together.

Well I just popped in over the weekend and to my dismay all the Luke sabers were gone but a beat-to-hell demonstration model on the display and a single packaged one.  My gf, fortunately, had the $ to get the Luke one for me before they sold out and I can pay her back.  They had all 4 Vader's...

Also, a Halloween (temporary, for only during the season) store in the mall had the same display but with all Vader sabers.  They hadn't sold a one of them, so Vader's is easy to get...  Especially at $120 which is the retail around here for them.

They're fun as hell though.  I want to get a nice mix of them and I'm building a riflerack styled rack for mine that will hang on the wall.  I'd like one of every color (hoping they redo Mace's saber), and maybe 2 Blue so I can get all the "iconic" designs too (Anakin and Obi-Wan E3 Sabers, Vader, and ROTJ Luke).

At C3 during the opening ceremonies weren't those two guys dueling with MR FX sabers?  If they were, I'd suggest the things are really damn durable :o  They also stand up to ceiling fans pretty well or so one member here can attest.

As for finding them in Calgary that's a bit of a stretch to say, I don't think there are any members here from Calgary.  You could check at snowtroopers.ca in the Alberta section.  Otherwise I'd check TRU in the electronics section or check with Best Buy/Future Shop.  Also check those retailers online.

For those who got the Luke Saber recently what do you think?  Man the color is just awesome on this sucker.  I just wish the Mace Saber color was better.  I have the new Vader, Anakin and Luke and the colors are all great.  Mace kind of looks out of place next to the others ???

Your right about Mace's saber.  The purple with hints of "blotch" just don't cut it next to the new ones (or the old ones for that matter).

I love my Vader and Anakin one but both Luke's still hold a soft spot also and the old Vader color (ANH) is very good.

In the last couple weeks I've decided to get one of each blade color, and now am caught up with the exception of the Mace saber. I'm heading to GameStop to pick one up tonight, but wanted to make sure my understanding of the color situation was up to date before I did so.

Pardon me if it's been discussed earlier and I've missed it, but I gather that the comments about the color quality on the Mace saber applies to the version currently shipping, and this saber is a simple re-release instead of a revamp like the Borders ROTJ saber is, correct?

Is it really that bad, or should I get it and just be happy to have the purple blade?

I've heard more negatives than positives about the blade color.  I don't know that I want to drop $120 on it if the purple sucks.

Well I picked one up last night. The blade is splotchy from the red filter wrap around the blue LED, but I'm not that disappointed. It was a bit hard to swallow the $120 price tag at GameStop after getting the others for $99 at Borders last week.

If we were talking a 1-10 scale for quality based on the color performance and appearance alone, I'd rate the red and blue versions at a 9, the revamped green at an 8, and the purple at a 7.

Can you post a pic Jared of all 4 lit up?

I'm thinking about the Mace also, I just hope I can get some trade in value for my games.

I should have thought about that as well. Damn it.

Here's a pic I did of the three for a friend the other day. I'll do a new one tonight:

This topic forced me to take my Mace saber out and actually put batteries in it.  My verdict.... it's pretty good.  Is it a deep, strong purple?  Nope.  Is it a good match for what appears on the box?  Yep.  Is it pretty true to Windu's saber from the movies?  Yep, I think it is.

I haven't seen my green yet, so I can't compare that.  But I'm guessing primary colors like blue, red or green are easy to do relative to something like purple.  I think they did a good job.  It's not as good as the Vader, but that's ok frankly.

Hmm, I'm still undecided until I see a good pic.  I called my GameStop and they'll only give $11 store credit on each of the 1st three seasons of South Park, so there went that idea.  I really don't have many Xbox games left to trade in either.
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers

Here's a new shot with the Mace saber added. So I guess it looks ok.

Yeah, there's red, blue, and green LEDs. Purple uses blue with a filter.

I think I'm done with these now that I have all of the colors. The only thing that I'd really like to do is get something oddball, like if they bit the bullet and made a Yoda saber with super-low battery life because of hilt scale, or maybe the Maul sabers. I don't know.

I dread the removable blade saber they eluded to in the Comic Con Q&A...

So, last night we were out and about and happened across a Borders bookstore.

After playing with the sabers a bit, and remembering how I've pretty much craved one of these since watching some of the gang fool around with their sabers at C3, I finally caved.

I picked up the FX Luke Saber and I love it.  The color and sounds are great!  :)

These sabers sure look amazing.  This has always been my "holy grail" I guess of Star Wars collecting, I'd really like to get one (someday), but we just can't afford it right now.  I'm hoping that they will still be available if/when I can.  I'd like to get one of Luke's sabers, which of course seem to be the tougher ones to find.  We don't have any Borders in town, so the ROTJ is out of the question most likely.  I'm hoping to save up, just to have one of these, it sounds like all of you really enjoy them.  Hopefully this line continues.

I plan on getting the Maul next year.  Possibly the EpIII Obi-Wan.

I'm waiting for the Obi-Wan next year to round out my colors.  I wanted a different hilt on my blue saber and the Anakin/Luke blue hilts look too similar to the Vader hilt.  I expect the Obi hilt will be similar to something as well, but hopefully different enough.

I too will be opting for the Maul saber.  Two of em.

Thanks for the pic Jared, looks great together like that.

I had to take an unfortunate trip south last night to Modesto, CA (mother-in-law was in a car accident, shes ok).  I made the most of it by going to 2 Borders  on the way home to torture myself.  The first one I stopped at had 8 Luke ROTJ sabers, 4 Anakin's and 5 Vaders all for $99.  If I would have had one of those coupons on me for Borders I would have bought Anakin's.  I was not impressed at all at the way Lukes hilt looked  :-X it just looked.......fat. Anyways the other borders had about the same distribution of sabers. No Mace Windu sabers. If they would have had that I would have got one on the spot.  Its funny how I sometimes really debate gettting grocerys or Star Wars toys!!! ;)

I don't know if any of you know what a Shopko is (similar to Target), but the have gotten quite a few Vader and Anikin sabers in. I found it very odd that a retail store like them had them. They are $129.99 but are on sale this week for $99.99.  I wanted the Anakin to match my Vader but alas, my wife thinks its better to eat. So....a call to my mom went in and I will have one for my brithday! Yay for me!
If you guys have a Shopko check it out.

Shopko is where I picked up my Vader saber.  At the time, they didn't have Anakin but Vader was on sale for the same price as it is now.  It certainly is the way to go!!

The Luke Jedi hilt would be closest to Obi-Wan's, would it not?

---

I've got a buddy who works at a Best Buy.  Had him look up the employee discount on their Anakin and Vader sabers, and it came out to $65 each.  I'm gonna hit him up to hook me up with a Vader.  $65 is just nuts.

Went to a Borders today to check out their Luke sabers, and didn't see any.  Where are they keeping them in the stores?

At the Borders I went to, all the FX Sabers were sitting behind the check-out counter.  I had to ask at the desk to see/play with the "demo" and check out the box.

Pretty much identical by the looks of things.  I'm not sure why I thought it would be different :-\  Scum has supposed pics of the Obi ROTS FX saber and it's awfully familiar (presuming it's not just the re-released Luke saber - it's not lit up).

So I'm left with a bit of a dilemma.  I avoided the Anakin blue saber because the hilt was too close to the Vader.  I never grabbed the Luke ESB saber for the same reason.  It's too late to go back and be OT only since I have the Mace saber.

So what blue saber do I get?

$65 for a saber?  Now that's a sweet price Cosby...  I gotta make more friends I guess.

I'm hoping to find a Vader saber for less than retail...  Cheap of me, but this kinda pricey stuff kills me to collect.  These are the kinds of things that people oogle when you show off the collection though so I really like the FX sabers as something "special"...  A wall of opened actionf igures just says I'm the loser I am, but the FX sabers say I'm a loser that can buy and sell people!  (Well, I at least can try to make it look that way anyhow)

Luke ESB
Luke ROTJ
Anakin ROTS
Vader ESB
Mace AOTC

Was there another Vader for ANH?

The Anakin and Vader sabers are 79.43 at Walmart.com right now:

Vader FX (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3620338)

Anakin FX (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3620339&dept=4171&path=0%3A4171%3A450711%3A450713)

Well patience paid off.  I picked up an Anakin today from Sears in Canada (http://search.sears.ca/sears/srch?se_l=e&se_q=star+wars&se_cmd=searchWithLinguistics&cqon=true&se_cat=toys_/_games&se_res=QIR_Outlet).  $89.99 plus the taxes in CAD so the best price I've had by far.  No one can touch that price including shipping, at least up here.

Wishing now I hadn't picked up the Vader either, I paid a fair bit more for that one as well.

That gives me all four colors, so I'm thinking the only FX I'll pick up this year will be a pair of Maul sabers.

Yeah sure ;D  Thats what I told myself.  Then I found the ESB Luke Saber and suckered myself into buying it.   So naturally I need to have at least 2 of each color ;)  But with Mace having the only purple saber, that will never happen.  Unless some EU version gets released.

So is everyone buying 2 pieces to make a complete Maul or just one for the battle damaged look?  I'm thinking one myself since the length cant be displayed anywhere in my house.

I'm still hoping they find a way to make 3 of my most desired FX sabers; Yoda, Sidious and Qui-Gon.

Has there been anymore ramblings about the possible FX Blasters ???

I just got a note from MR that Darth Maul's double bladed lightsaber goes on sale next week.  Collector Society orders on the 21st and the rest order on the 23rd.  $199.00 for two or $119.00 for one.  It's the battle damaged version and (obviously) can connect to form one saber.

Of course I'll have to get one two just because I suffer from OCD (I have no room for one much less two!!).

I still don't own an FX lightsaber therefore I'm very tempted to take MR up on their 3 for $240 deal.

My son loves to play with the Hasbro electronic lightsabers, he might get a kick out of these too (downside being the damage that he'll cause)!

As well, I just noticed that WM.com raised their price back up to $97.77 - figure that one out.... ???

Ruiner, if you get one you'll want more no doubt.

I got the Anakin E3 one at C3...  I had $ to ditch and treated myself...  Since then I've gotten ROTJ Luke's, and I have a Windu on hold for me.  I'm wanting Vader and Maul's too then, and an E3 Obi-Wan saber to accompany my Anakin...

I'm wanting to really display them nicely on a homemade rack (sort of a rifle rack, though I want Obi/Ani's E3 sabers "crossed" across the rack like they're clashed together).  I have grown to love these though.  I don't get into expensive stuff but these sabers are worth every penny to me.
Title: Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: Morgbug on March 15, 2006, 10:11 AM
I'll second Jesse's vote.  I was unsure about them until I saw them in person at C3.  Seeing a bunch of people flailing about with them, the intensity of the light and the durability sealed my desire to get them.  The duel staged during C3 was awesome and those guys were really smacking the sabers around and they stood up pretty well.  I don't think I'd hit them that hard though, they'd eventually snap.

I've managed to pick up four thus far, one of each colour.  Compared to what I can pick them up for now though, I overpaid for both Vader and Mace.  Luke was a good deal and Anakin was dirt cheap.  I'm hoping to get a couple of Maul sabers, but that should round out what I want.

$240 for three is an awesome deal, I paid that much for the two cheaper ones I picked up after shipping.

Lets all hope for the Anakin EP2 and Vader EP4 re-release.  Secondary prices are ridiculous. ???  I like many missed these two and really regret it.

Looks like the Obi-Wan E3 is the only other planned saber for the year.

I would say Qui-Gon will be out in 2007 and maybe Luke E4.

My hope is for the Sidious and Yoda once they figure a way for the technology to handle these things.

Pretty good I guess, but I want to take advantage of the offer they had a while back.

Buy three FX's for $240 shipped.

Better deal IMO.

I recently received my Darth Maul FX saber(s) and all I can say is WOW!  They did a great job on this one!  My only complaint is that when I have them put together, I can't get the sabers to line up wight with the controls on the same side.

I do like how they both came with the "battle damaged" piece and they look great separated as well!

Looks like the once "we cannot make it" statement is a thing of the past.  Yoda looks to be the next saber in the FX line.  Although looking at the pics its seems too long ???

This gives hope for a Dooku IMO.  I am quite surprised that Qui-Gon has been left out again.

So whats really left with major characters?

EP1 Obi
EP2 Obi
EP4 Obi
EP6 Vader
EP4 Luke
EP1 Qui-Gon
EP3 Sidious
EP2,3 Dooku (same saber?)

Still hoping they re-release the EP4 Vader and Anakin EP3 saber.

Yeah, a Yoda saber would be one of the few sabers I'd be inclined to buy again now that I have all of the colors.

If I recall correctly, MR said at their Q&A at Comic Con last year that it wasn't a problem making the actual saber, but a question of battery life because of the physical size of the hilt. No one seemed to care, so I'm surprised it's taken this long for them to move on the idea.

Hopefully that means Dooku or Sidious will also come along, since you'd think that people would like any other red saber version.

I'm thinking about picking these up now since I'm selling my Hasbro collection and have a few questions (and don't feel like looking through all the pages to find the answers).

What's been released so far?  If I buy that package Jesse posted a few pages back would I get every saber released so far?

Do these come with display stands and what do they look like?

Thanks

I thought the article said those pics were that guy's concept Yoda saber and not an actual MR version.

I'm surprised Qui-Gon has gotten passed up as well, but the Yoda has been asked for quite a bit more and think of how well that would sell to kids if they price it cheaper than the others.  Bye bye Hasbro sabers.

I'm also hoping they re-release the AOTC Anakin cause I'd love to have that one.

I've always wanted to get at least one of these sabers as well, and I'm hoping this year I can make that happen somehow.  Ideally, I'd like to get a Luke Skywalker saber (preferrably ESB), but those seem to be a little tougher to get at this point in the game.  I think our local Shopko has the ROTS Anakin saber in stock, which is "supposed" to basically be the same one that Luke eventually gets - but I know there are differences.  Are the Luke ones just too tough to get at this point (ESB or ROTJ), or is there hope of picking these up somewhere in the future.  I think I've seen the ROTJ version online a few places, I'll have to check again.

I think thats them all.

The pics of the Yoda are over at scum.  They are fan made, but it goes on to say and hint that this will be MR's next official release.

I started collecting these with the intent of buying only one color of each saber.  Seven sabers later and the Obi on preoder I just wish I could track down an Anakin EP2 and a Vader EP4 at a decent price.  I am hoping that the Vader gets released again next year with the 30th Anniversary.  Hopefully like they did with the Mace and Luke ROTJ.

What I would like to know is what ever happened to the MR FX Blasters that they made mention of a few years ago ???

Do these come with display stands and what do they look like?

As you can see, the do come with the black display stands but eventually take up a lot of room.  I know Philip Wise had worked with someone and they made a "pool stick" display case (pictures are at RS).  I never bought one and would buy a "baseball bat" holder if I ever decided to change the way I have them now (which is two crossed-over on each wall).

Battery wise, I'd go with Duracell as they seem to last longer but that's just my opinion.

I'd be really patient and look for deals Mikey.  I feel I've overpaid on most of the F/X sabers I've bought simply by paying MSRP.  Only Anakin was a great deal for me, at around $80 or so USD.  I think most can be had for around that price these days, though maybe a couple of the older ones would fetch higher prices, but those have the old electronics.

Like Jared, I currently have the four colours available (Green - Luke Rotj, blue - Anakin Aotc, red - Vader Esb, purple - Mace Windu Rots).  I'll pick up Maul's saber (2) simply because it's a double bladed saber.  I don't feel any need to be a completeist with this line.

the way I have them now (which is two crossed-over on each wall).

Hey, that's a cool idea.  Do you have pics of them mounted that way?  And what did you use to keep them on the wall at 45o angles without falling down?

This should bring you to the page with the photo:

Wall Sabers (http://community.webshots.com/photo/179228865/1484095678041849255aJMfiJ)

I used a door stopper in between the sabers to lay each blade on and then a double hook at each end (the kind you'd hang a bathrobe on).  I got them in some kind of chrome silver color and it matches the ends of the sabers perfectly.  They slide right into the holders and I have only had one fall off the wall (as I have more than one wall with sabers on).  I am pretty sure the cat had something to do with that fiasco  :P.

Hi Everyone.  I'm new to collecting FX sabers, but I dove right in over the past two months.  I ended up getting the double bladed Darth Maul (favorite character, favorite saber), the ESB Vader, the ROTS Anakin, and the ROTJ Luke.  Although I've missed out on a lot of the first releases (based on what I've read in this thread), I can't see myself going back and completing the set.  One because of the price and two because I wouldn't know where to even begin to locate them.  I do really like this generation of sabers.

I'm pretty glad that I waited until now to get them, as I saved myself a few hundred by getting them on ebay or through the MR package deals that I've split with another collector I work with.

I can't wait to get the ROTS Obi-Wan and would love to see either Dooku made eventually as I love the uniqueness of the hilt.

I have to ask though, has anyone purchased one of the 'Luxeon' versions of these with the sparring blades posted on ebay?  I just want to know how they stack up.

Got my first FX lightsaber yesterday - Anakin's ROTS one.  I got a good deal from a guy over at scum and had to bite.  This thing is just too cool.  Even the wife was impressed (not to mention getting a big laugh out of my son, but he laughs at everything, especially dad acting like a goofball).

Now I have to track down some of the other colors.  I'm thinking Vader's red one next.

I Am Sith Will you be going for the mace Windu? The hilt is in my oppinion the best one.

I really don't think that I'm going to get a Mace one, but who knows what will happen if the price is right.  If FAO Schwarz puts it up on sale like the Vader and Anakin sabers are this week, I don't think that I could pass it up at $68 like those.

I know that the hilt is great as a friend of mine has one and I've been able to see it up close.  I'm also not crazy about purple.  But my main beef is with the character more than the saber.  He and Jar Jar are by far my two least favorite prequel characters.  I don't mean to offend those of you who like Samuel L. Jackson's character, but I just didn't care for him, especially in EP1.

Call me crazy, but having an 'attachment' to the character is a big deal to me when it comes to getting these lightsabers.  Anakin, Luke, Maul, Vader, I got into all of these characters and was really psyched to get their force fx sabers.  I also can't wait to get the Obi-Wan when it comes out.  With Mace, he was just 'eh' to me in the prequels, so the desire isn't there.

My ROTS Obi-Wan saber just arrived and I'm really impressed.  The blade has a really bright blue....I think it's much brighter than the Anakin ROTS sabers I've seen.  Also, it has different sound effects than my Darth Vader and Darth Maul sabers.

The hilt's a little thick where the brass pieces are, similar to the ROTJ Luke saber, but that was expected...too bad they couldn't get the electronics to fit in a more movie accurate design.

I'm going to call them up later this morning to get clarification of what exactly constitutes a nick and dent lightsaber (is the box just beat up or is there something scratched/dented or otherwise on the saber itself).  Once I find out I'll pass along their description.

I just got off the phone with tfaw and the guy I spoke with said that in most cases it's just the box that has been damaged.  They will take out the saber, check it for damage and functionality, but the box is damaged and has been opened.

At this point I didn't feel too bad about it.  However he continued on.

He also mentioned that it could be a display item that has had minimal handling, and he was pretty vague on whether it could have been a 'return' that is being re-sold.

So all that being said, I'm not going to take the chance on this since there are no returns on these items.  If they could assure that it was only an item where the box was damaged and the lightsaber was mint inside and functioning appropriately, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Good luck if anyone decides to get one.

I have picked up most of my Koto's from the TFAW nick & dent section as well as my Vader FX saber, it is always just the box that is damaged.  I did receive a KOTO Vader that had a cracked base, they sent a new one out, with no problem.  They have been a good source for items that are going to be displayed anyway.

I believe the code SSFREESHIP still works for free shipping too.

Went to Spencers on a whim while I was helping my gf shop and low and behold they did have Vader Sabers for $60...  Not bad at all so I grabbed a Vader and now I'm up to 4 of these (E3 Ani, Mace, ROTJ Luke, & Vader).

I've still got to pick up....

-Maul double bladed
-Obi-Wan E3
-Yoda
-Palpy if they ever do it

I think at that point I'd be FX sabered out...  Maybe a QGJ would be buyable but it's not a necessity to me either, I dunno.  I'm not going for an ANH Luke though since I consider E3 Anakin's that same saber...  I would only consider buying newer models if they were a substantial improvement like removable blades and stuff...  These are cool higher-end collectible that's still semi-affordable.

You can find double Maul FX sabers on ebay now and again for $120 Buy It Now prices.  The shipping is usually about $20 or less.  Considering that I paid about $160 for mine when it came out, that's not a bad deal.

One thing to keep in mind though is that this really is a BIG saber when it's fully assembled.  I've gotten to the point where I only combine them for special occasions.  I've been looking for a damaged one that someone is trying to get rid of so that I can disassemble the blade and just use the hilt to create a single-bladed, full hilt version of this.  Haven't come across one yet...

Good luck on your hunt!

Jesse,

I really want an Obi EP3 as well, but I also really like the Obi EP2 one that is coming out next year.  I'm kind of like you, after I get those two, I'm considering my collection complete.  The Yoda would be really cool, but I'd have a hard time convincing my kids that it's not for them...  Since I'm throttling back on my action figure/vehicle purchases next year, I'm hopefully going to be in a better position to get these.

DarkKnight2k4, I'll definitely let you know if I come across any of these.

On a personal note, I was able to secure two non-functioning DM sabers today.  Once I get these, I'm going to start working on my full hilt, single bladed version of the Force FX saber.  I'm extremely excited to take one of these bad boys apart!  I plan on taking some WIP pics in case anyone is interested in seeing the guts of one of these.  More to come...

I noticed the prices on the episode V darth vader FX sabers were changed at Spencers from $59 to $79. i'm still on the lookout for obi-wans or anakins blue sabers around the area. but the only place that carries them charges over $100 a piece. I'm just going to play the waiting game like I did with the Vader Saber which I picked up for the $59 price...

In case you guys missed the article on the front page, Yoda Force FX is up for pre-order next week!!! ;D

http://masterreplicas.com/customer/community/news/detail.php?id=16

I'm definitely going to have to pick these up for my kids as it's almost a foot shorter than a traditional FX lightsaber.  No MSRP listed on the page though, so I'm wondering what they will ultimately end up charging for this...

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I was curious if there had ever been any talk/rumors of "FX" blasters?  Well, maybe not exactly "FX", but a more affordable version of some of the classic SW blasters/guns/etc.  I thought I had read a rumor or something at one time about this, but maybe I just imagined that.  I'd really like to get something like Han's blaster someday (or the others), but there's no way I can afford the regular MR ones.  I was just curious if this had ever been discussed.  Anyways, back on topic, but that Yoda saber does look pretty nice.  I wonder if it will be cheaper than they normally are due to the size.  Does someone have a list of the confirmed FX sabers for 2007 (or at least so far)?  I'd really like to pick up a Luke saber sometime, if they re-do/re-release one or both of them.  Just curious.  Thanks :).

This was posted a while back, but so far the Yoda is the only one that has been 'confirmed' off the list.  Looks like there is a Luke scheduled.

Yoda FX saber coming up. Along with a "Joe Jedi" Make Ur Own FX Saber.

To your other questions, I really hope that they reduce the price accordingly for the Yoda as well.  Although I'm sure they are going to charge $120, it seems ridiculous considering it's 75% of the size of a standard FX saber...  I guess we'll find out next week for sure.  And, I don't remember hearing anything about reduced priced blasters.  However I'm with you, I can't afford the other ones and that would be a great way to get a few of them...

BTW, since the Yoda FX saber is smaller, you can try to leverage that with your wife so you can get it for your child!  I'm going to try to do that with my wife so I can get ones for my 2 boys.  Good luck!

Saw the Yoda FX today. Looked pretty good and is brighter than the Episode 6 Luke Saber. I'm on the hunt for another FX saber besides the only one I got (Vader Episode 5). I'm looking for a decent blue saber to show off. Which one would I be better off getting to display with the Vader FX....the Anakin or Obi Episode 3 sabers...or should I wait for the Luke Episode 4 one to come out??

Is the sale at Border's still going? I bought my half Maul saber a couple weeks ago (my first FX saber ;D) and had to fight tooth and nail to get them to honor the price they gave me over the phone. Long story short, I called on Sunday night, they quoted me the $50 price and said they would hold it until Wednesday, I went in Tuesday and the checker tried to sell it to me for full price. After getting the store manager involved I got it for the sale price but was told it was a weekend sale only.

I wonder if the MR Sabers are a result of MR losing their license?  Could be that they've got hefty stock of these they want to go through and sold them to TRU to do so...  Be a quick way to dump a lot of product you had on-hand...  I could see TRU getting them for a steal too, and still charging full price MSRP on them too. ;)

TRU = rarely competitive of course.

So it arrived sealed in the original packaging and was in perfect shape when it arrived.  I put in some batteries and tested it out and found an issue.  The sound cuts in and out when it's horizontal, but it doesn't really bother me.  I'm not going to be going into battle with it, so it's no big deal.  Just thought I'd let you guys know the condition in case you were considering getting one.

Check the contacts...the battery pack might not be making a good connection.  Also double check the "cap", if it's loose at all it will cause the battery pack to bounce around and not make a good connection.
