Hall of Justice / Re: DC Superheroes
« on: February 8, 2007, 03:21 PM »
Well, here it is a day later and our dreams of a Legends-esque DC line seem to have been dashed...  :-\

Looks like all the "DC Unlimited" line is doing is giving DC Direct a way to make action figures from "other" non-DC lines.

They announced the first two lines from DC Unlimited and they are World of Warcraft figures and Afro Samurai figures.   ::)

LOST is back tonight... and I don't know if I care.   :-\

I'm sure I'll watch tonight, but I found it was hard to stay interested in this show after not watching any LOST for these last few weeks.

I have to say that I actually missed there being no re-runs these last 2 months.  LOST re-runs were always fun for me to watch to see what you missed the first time through.  I know I could buy them on iTunes, but I'm too cheap to do that and too lazy to go looking for internet freebies.   :P

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what they come up with tonight to try to re-hook all their regulars.  I'm hoping for one or two big nuggets for sure, more than just trying to get off the little "Others" island...

Oh, and Deanpaul sent this to me so I thought I'd share - it looks like Lando Calrissian is joing LOST.   :D

Nope... the picture has been removed.

PLEASE DO NOT POST PICTURES THAT CONTAIN BAD WORDS.

While we alllow you the option of turning off the language filter, many folks have to leave it on because they use the net at work.  Posting pictures with bad words is not cool... obviously I/we have to start watching this thread a bit more closely.

I will be going through and removing some other pics as well...

If it means a Marvel Legends-ish line for DC at mass retail (where they can actually produce characters outside of the Superman/Batman world), it sounds good to me.

This has me very worried... if they end up making a ML type line of DCU figures where they are all in the same style and all in the same scale, it could be VERY bad for my wallet.   :-\

I wonder too what the impact would be on DC Direct licenses?

Well, I'd imagine they could both be kept up.  DC Direct would continue to supply high-end well sculpted, low articulated figures from comic seres/books like the Ross' Justice line, Batman Long Halloween, Infinite Crisis type specialty lines) like they are doing now, while the new line would be more of a mass-melding pot.

Plus, it would probably allow the DCD stuff to focus more on the non-traditional characters like it did when it first started - Preacher, Sandman, and the rest of the Vertigo type stuff.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Hasbro Weekly Q and A
« on: February 5, 2007, 11:08 PM »
Hasbro sent out a Q&A schedule and that went through May 11th.

After that though, you get into Celebration IV at the end of May and then SDCC in July.  Don't know if they plan to go past that date or not, I guess we will have to wait and see how long it lasts...

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Super Hero/Comic Book Movies
« on: February 5, 2007, 12:06 PM »
A busy (down) weekend for the DC movies, as both Joss Whedon and David Goyer have dropped out/been cut from the Wonder Woman and Flash movies, respectively.  Sounds like they wanted to go in "different directions" in both cases.

In other words, they wanted to go in the direction of making a movie about the actual character in the book, while WB wanted to go with some "fresh/new/hip" interpretation of the character.   ::)

As much as I would love a Flash or GL movie, I am worried that neither could ever live up to my expectations after 25+ years of reading those comic book.  :-\

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How's the weather?
« on: February 5, 2007, 12:01 PM »
We had -18F this morning, been that way most of the weekend where I don't think it got above 0.

Yeah, still bone chilling cold this AM.  The car thermometer was reading -13oF on the way to work, and that's before the Windchill.

We were supposed to take the little dudes to get 7-month pictures yesterday morning, but we cancelled our appointment because we just didn't want to take the risk of bringing them out into the ubercold and driving to the mall...  :-\

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Does ANYONE collect Baseball cards anymore?
« on: February 5, 2007, 11:47 AM »
So I guess it basically sounds like if they aren't graded, I just as well toss them as well?

Don't just throw them away!   There are people who are interested in old cards, even if they are not graded - they are called "little kids".

Here's what I did with a TON of my old baseball/football/hockey commons.

Step 1:  Sort out all the cards you want to keep.  (I ended up keeping one of every card that I had.  I figured that my boys might like to have them some day.  I know I had fun looking through my dad's old stuff).

Step 2:  Shuffle all the extra/excess/duplicate cards.  Place 15-25 cards into those small "snack size" ziploc baggies.

Step 3:  Now give away all those small baggies!  One option is Halloween (in addition to or in place of candy).  Another option is your local elementary school - teachers can use them as incentives for kids who do well and the younger kids (like 1st graders) LOVE cards.  I've learned that for most little boys, it makes no difference what/who the cards are they are just excited to get something for doing well in school.

There you go.  Maybe those kids will throw them away, maybe they'll keep them.  You never really know.  Either way, you are free of them.  Much easier than dealing with eBay and you don't spend any gas driving from shop to shop trying to find someone to buy them.   ;)

The Vintage Collection / Re: Target DPCI #s
« on: February 5, 2007, 11:02 AM »
I was hearing rumors of some price adjustments showing up in the Target computers, so I decided to check for myself and punch in the latest round of DPCI #s for 30th Anniversary stuff.  Here's an update on pricing plans for 2007:

30th Anniversary Basic Figures: 087-06-1990 - $6.99 same
30th Anniversary Darth Vader w/Coin Album: 087-06-0886 - $9.99 (lower price, was $11.99)
Order 66 2-packs 087-06-0884 - $9.99 (lower price, was $12.99)

## Please note that these are the prices here in MN and your local milage may vary a bit...

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Target Exclusive Order 66 2-Packs
« on: February 5, 2007, 10:56 AM »
They way I see it, I'm paying $13 for one figure that wasn't even in the movie.

I heard/read a few things out there in internet land, so I thought I'd check for myself...

I was at Target yesterday and punched the Order 66 DPCI# (087-06-0884) into the scanner.  The rumors are true - the Order 66 sets are now showing a $9.99 each price (at least here in MN).

$10 for these sets is much more reasonable than $13, especially compared to the comic packs line.  In fact, at $10 each, I am even willing to buy extras for army building (the 501st Airborne, Utapau AT-RT, and maybe even the Kashyyyk Clone).  I'll just sell the Jedi figures for $3 (to the neighborhood kids or customizers or whoever) and then the clones are really only $7 each, same as the rest of the basic figures.   ;)

does Hasbro have the license to produce toys for the up-coming Indy 4?

I think you'll be pleased with question #3 we sent in on past Friday (2/2).  ;)
