Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Incom's customs: Dark Jedi Varan E'ron

Ah, I see. Yeah, I normally don't have much trouble with Citadel paints in terms of glossiness. There's two coats of paint, so I don't know why it came out a bit glossy. I don't have dullcote or anything like that. It's impossible to come by here, and I can't order it from the States or UK  :(. Otherwise, I'd have applied some of that, of course  :)

Robo Quack, thanks for your thoughts. What exactly do you mean about the paint job? Just curious what can be improved  :) The recipe is just below the pics.

Ruprecht, thanks man. Tomax (or whatever) has a real smooth face, but while drilling out his head to fit the neck post, I accidentally slipped a couple of times with my bur  :-\. At first, I wanted to throw the head away and look for another, but mangling him up a bit more was more fun  ;D. I even wanted to make him legless at one point and have him on a repulsor device or something. That idea will have to wait though.

Here's Dark Jedi Varan E'ron. An average Jedi at best, he never emerged from the shadows of his more esteemed peers. Trying to prove himself while negotiating in a conflict between two hot headed land owners, he got horribly scarred when the not so happy land owner decided to teach him a lesson. Afraid to be mocked by his fellow Jedi, he never returned home. In fact, he exacted his revenge on the man who left him scarred for life, by killing his children, his wife and himself. He joined forces with the other land owner and helped him become a powerful warlord. Varan had discovered his dark side powers were quite prominent and he became quite skilled in using them.

LMK what you think  :)

Imp. Surgeon Droid:
Cool, simple paint job, very Imperial indeed. I like the modification on his left arm and the "apron" is a nice finishing touch.

Gonk Droid:
Really good paint job. The weathering brings it to life.

Maintenance Droid:
Very original idea and a nice b/g story. I'd rather see it without the big antenna on his back though  :).

Sentry Droid:
Probably my favourite of this bunch! The high gloss paint looks great on him, and I love those accessories.

Courier Droid:
Again, very original and the climbing on the walls part is a cool part of its b/g story. Well thought out.

Labor Droid:
Awesome assembly of different parts and a cool colour scheme. I really like the EV-9D9 head turned backwards. Nice to make those bulges look like photoreceptors!

Antique Astromech:
The assembly and paint job add much to the antique look of this one. It figures that the modern astromechs are smaller and more compact than their predecessors. Well executed!

S_H, those droids look beautiful! There's a great balance between a new and shiny look and the applied weathering effects. I'll comment in more detail later this evening.

By the way, very nice to see all your creations together. Nice to see that sweet lil' Kneesaa and those pesky  :P Jawas again  :)

Phruby, MJ, thanks for the comments  :)

Phruby, the pony tail is made of several strands of sewing thread. I glued those together at the base. I then glued that base in the hole of Leia's head. Leia's slave pony tail has a peg, you see. After boiling it pops out quite easily. I glued the end of the pony tail on the back of her head, so that it would stay fixed in the loop position.

Hmm, interesting idea about carding Linet. I'll keep that in mind, should I ever become more adapt at working with Photoshop. Only recently discovered the art of making lightsabers  ;)

Fresh colour scheme on that Mando, Korbra. He could use some weathering though, or a nice dark wash, perhaps? And adding a female Mando would make for a killer pair of honeymooners  ;D

323
Nice to see you back in the game, Korbra.

Seems like you cleaned out the parts bin with some of these, eh? Doesn't hurt every once in a while, especially when these nice customs are the end result. Good thinking about masqueing your "laziness" by keeping the figs Hasbro-like  :P.  However, the paints apps you did do on some of those clones look very crisp. Good lines on those markings.

Just searched for a hot Padmé, sexy Padmé, slave Padmé, but nothing turned up. Well, some nice pics popped up, but not Padmé in a metal bikini  ::)

The Mando kid looks cool. I like the non descript paint scheme you used.

Your WIPs look promising, hope to see those Mandos finished soon. What am I saying? Just take your time, man.

Thanks D_E and JesseVader.

D_E: I got some comments about Kass' hands being too manly (they're from Agen Kolar, after all). I think I'll replace them with Adi Galla's. The hair was quite a job to do, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. I based the technique on how the hair on my daughter's Dora the Explorer backpack/doll was applied. Next time I'll try and make a tutorial, for those interested  :)

Jesse: yeah, it seems Screamin' Mace has a lot of potential for the customizing scene  8).

Fritz, the jungle Commando looks terrific. That's some excellent masking you did on him. I'll comment on the others when I'm home from work. Better internet connection and all that  ::)

I finally finished work on Kass Tod. It was quite easy after having found a suitable skin colour. I'm not 100% happy with one of her horns, but since I jammed pieces of paperclip in her pretty face and spent a lot of time adding the hair, I'll leave 'em like they are.

Recipe:
- head: POTF2 Slave Leia (heavily modded/repainted)
- arms: ROTS Saesee Tin (upper arms shortened a bit)
- hands: ROTS Agen Kolar
- torso: EP1 Adi Galla
- legs: AotC Obi-Wan Pilot
custom made leather Jedi attire
custom made hair

And not without some sense of pride, I present to you a custom inspired by my own lil' girl Linet Starbright (Linet's her real name, Starbright is fictional). She's 1+ right now, but I think this could be her as a young Jedi in a couple of years  :D Credits for this concept go to JediDre, who made a clone commander named after his son Kellen.

As always, I appreciate your thoughts and comments  8)

I made a customs parts trade list at Yakface.com. It took quite some work putting it up, so I'll just suffice with linking to that thread on the various other boards:

It's quite image heavy, just so you know :).

You can PM me through this site, though.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Incom's customs: update 12-30-06
« on: December 30, 2006, 09:47 AM »
Here are two new customs. First, a quickly made Gnarls Barkley, as seen during the MTV Movie Awards. Search YouTube for "gnarls barkley, mtv" and you'll see what I mean. Nothning serious, just a little laugh:

Recipe:
Saga Vader: body
Mace Windu (Geo Rescue): head

Then I have the fat guy I mentioned in my previous post. He is Sibosa Scapr, a former bartender at the Mos Eisley cantina. He started out as a Twi'lek crime lord (for a Yakface competition), but saw the error of his ways and became a bartender  ;) :

Recipe:
Orn Free Ta: head, hands and feet (never thought I'd willingly take a peek under his robes for them  :-\)
POTF2 Malakili: body, arms, legs
Sculpted belt, buckle and towel.

As always, let me know you likes and dislikes!  :)

Very nice colour scheme, D_N.  8) The wrappings on the rifle are a cool detail.

Man, you should take a pic of all of your Clones to date. How many are there, actually?

Awesome Snowtrooper, Fritz. Looks like the outfit could very well be a transition before the ESB Snowtrooper's outfit  8)

And I agree with you on the Empire enlisting "normal" men during the Galactic Civil War. Clones don't come cheap and they age rapidly  ;)
