Title: San Diego Comic-Con 2006
Post by: Jeff on February 21, 2006, 02:06 PM
About time we had a thread to capture all the deatils on this show...

2006 San Diego Comic Con (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/index.shtml) -  July 19th-23rd

Check out Comic-Con Update #1 (http://www.comic-con.org/common/assets/upd2006_1.pdf) for a preview of some of the stuff being prepared for 2006.

Also, here's a handy list of the SDCC Exclusives that have been announced so far:
GG Shocktrooper Mini-Bust
GG Shocktrooper Bust-Up
GG Darth Vader (Flames) Bust-Up
GG Lucius Malfoy (Death Eater) Mini-Bust
GG Clash of the Titans Rotocast Figures 3-pack (autographed by Ray Harryhausen)
Sideshow 12" Figure - rumored to be "Sith Eyes" Anakin

edit:
Forgot to add that you can put me down as #1 on the list of those seeking help on the SDCC Exclusive Hasbro SW figure for this year.  It hasn't been confirmed or anything yet, but you know it's coming...  :P

I plan on making my annual trip to Comic Con this year, and as always will do whatever I can to help people out.

:sigh:

I guess I'm going to have to add my name to the 3 3/4" Hasbro exclusive list too.

Unless there's a major problem, I should be going on the first day (as usual) this year. If there's going to be a JD get together over the weekend though, a little arm twisting might be able to get me to take another trip down.

Heh, heh.  He'll still be wearing plaid.  ;)

I'm not too worried about the Hasbro exclusive, but I sure want those Flame Vader and Shocktrooper Bust-Ups!

Jeff- Do you think that Hasbro replaced the figure this year with the Gold Titanium Vader Tie or do you think there will still be a Hasbro 3 3/4" figure as well?

Don't know for sure yet.  Early rumor reports said that Hasbro would have a convention exclusive figure this year, so there could still be both a figure and the Gold TIE too.

So who from here is going, aside from Jon and Jamie?  Anyone else making the journey?  I'm contemplating going, but not sure how it would go over with the wifey.

If I don't make it, I'll be wanting the Hasbro fig, Gold Vader's Tie, Shocktrooper Bust and Vader flame bust up ::)  And probably some other Marvel or DC crap as well :-\

Brent you should come the week before and go to the National in Anaheim also.

I'll be there.  I don't want to miss one of Matt's questions to Hasbro.   :P

I'm taking my vacation that week so I will be there for the duration (1st time ever.)  I'm very excited for preview night since I'm dying to try and score that Shocktrooper bust (which I'm hoping will be on sale that night.)

I'll be there preview night and the first day. Might even stay for another day if I don't have much success getting all of the exclusives I want. I'm hoping it won't be terribly difficult though. The only one I think we're going to have to worry about is the Shock bust.

If there is anyone out there that can help me out, I woudl really like to get the Shocktrooper bust and bust-up (packages together) and whatever exclusive figure there will be (I think it is the 501st now).  I can send money in advance.  I will supply references for those I have traded with inthe past for conventioons and the like.  Please let me know through PM.

Thank you

I'm actually getting on a plane for this one.  Should be a very cool experience.  I've heard about Comic Con for years and now I'll get to see it in person.  Wondering if I should make a sidetrip down to Mexico while I'm there.  Hmmm.

So what exclusives are you all after.  I already have the 12" Sideshow Vader and super deformed 501st pre-ordered and will do everything I can to get the Shock Trooper bust.  I'm also gonna grab the Vader bust-up.  Not sure on anything else just yet.

The only exclusive I'm looking for for myself is the 501st trooper.  Otherwise I'm picking up the following for folks over at GH who can't make it:

Additional 501sties
Sideshow Anakin
GentleGiant Bust/Bust-Up (if I'm lucky)
Some kind of Masters of the Universe statue

And I think that's it so far.

Have they said when badges start shipping?

I called when I ordered my badges and they said you'll be able to start picking them up around 2pm on Wednesday before they open the doors at 6 for preview night.

So what exclusives are you all after. I already have the 12" Sideshow Vader and super deformed 501st pre-ordered and will do everything I can to get the Shock Trooper bust. I'm also gonna grab the Vader bust-up. Not sure on anything else just yet.

I'm hoping to get:

Shock Trooper Bust (I plan I being one of the first in on preview night for this one!!!)
Con Vader bust up
SS Darth Vader (pick up)
501st Stormtrooper
Gold Titanium Vader's Tie Fighter
Official Pix poster
Wizards promo mini

That's all I can think of for now.  Can't wait! Less than a month to go.

When is the JD get together going to get planned?

There's going to be JD get together with more than just the SoCalers?

You called...?

What's the deal?  Is Comic Con happening soon?  I've been rather outta the loop of late, as you folks have probably noticed...

I'm hoping to be down there with the rest of the gang Wed. - Sun., but that's somewhat tentative at this point, so we'll have to wait and play it by ear, I suppose.

As always, feel free to PM me some of your wants, and I'll see what I can do for everyone.  No guarantees though, since I've been stiffed on a number of member's convention orders the last year or two (SDDCC, C3, etc.), and I don't like getting stuck with a bunch of stuff that I can't return.  :-\

Of course, I have a propensity for occassionally embibing too much at conventions when the whole crew gets together, especially when that Tennessee jackoff Jamie is around, so who knows what I'll be able to manage with all the hangovers I'm sure I'll be having that week.  >:(

So, what the hell do I even need to be getting for myself down there?  501st, Fire Vader Bust-up, Gold X-Wing...  What else?  I doubt I'll want the Shocktrooper bust if I'm able to snag it, so maybe I can find a lucky home for it with someone here if I get lucky with those stupid GG raffles.

So, do we even have a hotel yet?!  :P

Dammit! That's it ..I'm gonna go get a collared shirt embroidered with 'Jedidefender.com' on it so I can get all the free press **** like Matt got from the booths last year. Yeah, and I'll carry a camera or something too :P ::)

I'm noticing a trend among the vendors at SDCC in regards to restrictions on their exclusives for preview night. GG won't let you pick up your preorder on preview night, Sideshow won't give you the free "Collect N Go" hat with your pick up on preview night. Is this typical for vendors to do on preview night?

Huh?  I've never gotten squat from anyone, outside of a bag of random inconsequential stuff (like keychains and a hat) from Sideshow last year...

As for the digital camera, you shut up!  I'm all about old-school, and the 20th century dammit.  Besides, that's what Jared's for.  :-*

We'll have to start formulating some plans on get togethers down there pretty soon here.  Granted, we've got everyone's phone numbers, so I'm sure it won't be too hard to schedule something on the fly.  Who all is staying overnight down there, besides me, Jared, Jamie, and Jason (and Roger)?

I'm sure we'll be hanging out each night somewhere though, so stay tuned for more detailed plans to come...  Anyone recall how late Preview Night usually runs?

Preview night is open until 9.

I'll be staying overnight on Wednesday night but have to leave Thursday evening. I don't know if Robb might still have my number but give me a ring if we don't get something planned before Wednesday.

If anyone grabs the Shock Trooper set and doesn't need the Bust-Up, give me a shout.  I don't collect the busts but would love to get the Bust-Up to keep my collection complete.

Oh yeah, since I'm kissing butt, I'd love the Vader Bust-Up as well.

I know at least one former So Cal guy that's going too Ray. I fly in Tuesday night and will be there the whole time.

There might be some extra room on our hotel room floor if anyone is looking for a spot. It would really help knock the cost of the room down a bit.

When is the JD get together going to get planned?

So since Roger and I are out for Preview Night, and Jared and I are out for Thursday night, that makes our Official Hooters party finally set in stone for Friday night!  Not sure if we'll be heading straight over there after the Star Wars Spectacular gets out, or if we'll be trekking back to the hotel to dump our crap first.  But either way, I think we can finally confirm that get-together at least.  So hopefully we'll see everyone there!  Holler if anyone needs some cell phone #s to keep in touch for that...

Anyone know if StarWarsShop.com is gonna be there?  I'm guessing they will be, in some capacity...  I'd love to upgrade my thrashed Lucas Family figure set to a nice MIMB one if they have some on hand...

And anyone who can grab me any extras of the following freebies, I'd be MUCH obliged (and could pick them up from you on Friday and give you a big hug in return):

** Wizards of the Coast  promo mini figures (three different ones, as many as possible of each)
** Free "Stikfas" cuboyd figure at the Saizon booth (for a package I'm sending to Hemish next week)

Thank you!!  See everyone Friday morning at the Q & A...  ;)

That's the first picture of the Gonk droid I've seen online, I'm so glad you guys snapped that.

Man....from everything I've seen, this is the best year for Star Wars figures at Comic Con in ....well....as long as I can remember.

The Gentle Giant and Sideshow booths are just amazing and Hasbro seems to have some really cool stuff coming out alongside those repacks.

I'm jealous of all of you guys in attendance and will be eagerly awaiting the JD coverage.

I was just thinking Hasbro was kind of sucking big fat eggs at the moment...   :-\  A whole lotta repacks, some asinine at best, really not much else.  Their vehicles actually are more interesting than their figures at the moment, and the vehicles are all repaints.  Yikes.

This may be a desperate fanboy in me, but did anyone at comic con get a better look at what this said?

The first part (I'm hoping) looks like it says "Mandalorian". Could we be getting an EU mando in the near future? Probably not.

Actually, upon further observation, it looks more like "Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes" Is this a multipack?

Well, I'm admittedly more impressed by the Sideshow and Gentle Giant line-ups (I sat going through those pictures for an hour last night), but from the coverage I've seen over at GH and RS, it looks like there are a few cool repacked and repainted clones.  I thought it was funny how you guys took pictures of the bottom of the case.  I bet they love that.  ;D

Yeah.  I was under the impression that it was one of the collectible tin sets based on some comments GH made early on, but after further consideration, that wouldn't make much sense, since the ones that we've seen for the Prequels are mostly all core-character rehashes.  So maybe there's a seperate, stand-alone, set just for the band members or something...  GH mentioned that there were 2 Band members in one set, and 3 in the other.  Not sure if that was based on visual confirmation, or just the artwork on the package though...

Matt -

If you go by Sideshow's booth, see if they have a price point on the 1:1 C-3PO and R2-D2.  I can not believe that they are making these - I gotta try to get R2 at least (cringes at what Jay will say :P).

Pricing and order information for both R2-D2 and C-3PO will be available later at www.SideshowCollectibles.com.

But I'll still try to hound 'em for the scoop.  ;)

I had no idea that R2 was for sale. I knew Sideshow wanted a bunch of 501st guys to pose for pictures and that they were going to have some droids there, but I had no idea that those were future products I could buy.

Man, I better save up now. I really need that R2.  ;D

As far as I know nothing happen at Hasbro Q&A, lucky for the Hasbro people after the joke they pulled with the "new figures" that were being release on 4-01-07.

What was really sad about that was that when they announced hood and hermie first ALOT of the audience was REALLY cheering...then when they showed all the 'death figures' following people knew it was a joke. Wonder if Hasbro noted the Fan reaction to the first 2 much demanded figures they 'joked' about and took note ::)
