Title: SDCC McQuarrie Obi-Wan and Yoda
Post by: Jeff on May 15, 2007, 09:13 AM
OK, let's see where we are at...

Following the news of Yoda and Obi-Wan (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1179217222,16098,), that leaves us with just one of the 12 McQuarrie concept carded figures for 2007 to be revealed:

#1 - Stormtrooper (30AC Wave 1)
#2 - Boba Fett (30AC Wave 2)
#3 - Chewbacca (30AC Wave 3)
#4 - Darth Vader (30AC Wave 4)
#5 - Starkiller Hero (30AC Wave 5)
#6 - Snowtrooper (rumored for 30AC Wave 6)
#7 - "Han Solo" (rumored for 30AC Wave 7)
#8 - "Rebel Trooper" (rumored for 30AC Wave 8 )
#9 - C-3PO & R2-D2 (Celebration IV Store)
#10 - Luke Skywalker (HasbroToyShop @ C-IV)
#11 - Obi-Wan Kenobi & Yoda 2-Pack (rumored for a summer convention)
#12 - ?

I guess I'm not sure if Obi-Wan and Yoda are carded together (like 3PO and R2), but all we've heard so far indicate they will be.  I'm starting to wonder if there will be two SDCC figures this year like Celebration IV, one at SWShop and one at Hasbro Toy Shop.  Otherwise, I'm not quite sure where that 12th figure will land...

All bitching about exclusives aside for a moment, this is shaping up to be a very cool sub-line. :)

Concept Emperor would be very cool.

I hope those rumblings pan out, as it would be nice to get a couple more McQuarrie figures added to the collection.  I was particularly hoping we would see that version of Yoda, and having a set of 12 would be kind of cool.  I hope, even if they are exclusives (to Comic Con maybe?), they aren't too tough for everyone to get.  It really is a neat subline.

Concept Jabba!

Oh, yeah. The Budda-like one with the four arms. That would rock.

Enough with concept exclusives!! Release them in the basic line, they're popular enough as it is! If Hasbro wants to put the Mcfigures on exlusive con cards, then great! Just release them to us regular folk who admire Ralph and Joe just as much as the con-goers.

Sounds like the Yoda & Obi-Wan are bound for SDCC.  That's the logical move, since that's the one summer show that Hasbro attends like clockwork.

I personally wouldn't mind either a Jabba or a concept Lando. I must say, I am not looking forward to finding what is looking like it will be the SDCC figure(s). :-\

I guess it is possible that the 12th figure isn't really even going to be a Concept itself, it is just General McQuarrie, or did they already say that isn't the case?

I'm not convinced that Yoda/Obi are bound for SDCC necessarily.  I think it's a reasonable assumption, but from what I can tell they seem more like a general release.

I don't think we are getting another 2-pack. I think the 11th will be Yoda and the 12th will be obi-wan. Now if they gave us a human jabba that would be awesome.

No, not a hatah to those who can go... it's just unfair for those who don't live close enough to go or can't afford to travel and expenses, plus the overpriced figures. That's my gripe with Hasbro.

I'm not sure where the Yoda/Obi 2 pack exclusive rumor came from, but man am I not going to be happy (again... times 3) if it comes true.

I always hated that I couldn't go to the other Celebrations... it's OK though, I simply networked with Matt to get the excl's so no need to hate the Manufacturer on that note for me.

Personally, I think they should finish off the McQ live w/ a beast set. Maybe an early version of a tauntaun w/rider.

I swore I wouldn't get this sub-line, but after finding a Stormtrooper a few weeks back, I picked him up and am going to try to complete a set.  These would be the only figures I keep on the card due to the art too.

I'm thinking a carded/loose set myself more and more DB.  My order that had Fett in it from Hasbro Toy Shop is shipping too, so I should have my first of him in-hand soon.

These things reshipping though means getting a 2nd set should be easy enough eventually.  Right now, no 30AC figures are easy finds save for a couple.

Well, gee, thanks for your concern.

I just GLAD that YOU're taken care of.  Darth Slothus / Darth Selfish?  Hmmm...

Seriously, I actually am glad you will be able to get them.  But it would be nice if you had a bit more sympathy and empathy towards those of us that are completely screwed on this whole deal.  Thanks

None of us are "completely" screwed.  These will be on Ebay, and will show up elsewhere.  Most everything does.  Sure, we may spend more for the figures than C4 atttendees, but then I'm not spending 1000.00 on airfare and hotels and meals, and other stuff!

I think that both the C-3PO w/ R2-D2 and the Luke are going to be made available.  I think it just might take until after Celebration Europe for those to be sold online through either SWShop or Hasbro Toy Shop.  So if you can wait until July then I think you might be happy with the situation.

Quite honestly, I think the BIN's on ebay are somewhat respectable when you factor into account the expenses associated with traveling to C4.

Most sellers have the pair (the droids and Luke) for $79.

While the price is way too much considering they are $7 figures, these will cost you, what, $30 at the convention for the pair?

But I do understand where some of you are coming from - it would be nice if they were 'available' (I use this term loosely) at mass along side the other McQ figures.

Post by: speedermike on May 21, 2007, 08:27 PM
Don't even think about the BINs on Ebay until after C4!  Many, many, many, people will put a few extra sets online just to profit, and they will be going for much less than 79!

IIRC the CIII Vader sold from $50 to $75 right after CIII.

Nowadays they run about $15 - right about what they cost at the event.

Don't overpay for these now.  Be patient.  They'll either show up in stores, or they'll get much much cheaper on eBay.

I couldn't agree more.  Wait.

On top of that, these are three pretty much brand new sculpts, aren't they?  Hasn't Hasbro repeatedly said they won't do a new sculpt for a low production run figure?   If so, the likelihood is these will be released, en masse, down the road.  Yes, a different cardback invariably, but that's an issue for carded completeists and they have to deal with their OCD, I don't.

They are $15 figures at retail, if not $18-20.
So a pair should run you $40 (remember the $3 custom star case) if you're getting them at cost, from someone helping you (not factoring in their cost of admission and time to get these).
They'll be released down the road in larger numbers on new cardbacks.
Prices will drop even if they're not released.

Geez, I'm willing to bet if you wait a year, you can get them for less than what they're charging at C4.  Anyone wanna buy a C3 Vader mint with Star Case for $18?  I doubt it.

On a more positve note, the new Liea Starkiller from wave 5 looks awesome.  Seeing her, I'm pretty sure the "Han" figure will be the blue outfitted bearded charcter from the same painting.   At this point McChewie, the McDroids, and McLeia are all from the same work of art.

Pod,

True, I made jokes. I do get sick of all the whining though- I don't feel sympathy for folks who are too proud to ask for help either instead reverting to bashing a manufacturer over solveable problems listed by many folks in this very thread on how to solve( # 1 being to be patient or waiting...Hmmm?).

Afterall, I wasn't above asking for help to get a certain CIII exclusive when I couldn't attend. I certainly didn't cry about it either. Oh, and uh...let the records show that I never helped anyone in these boards with anything they needed for their collections either  ;) ::).

Selfish?! No, I'm actually only interested in buying an opener and a packaged fig of each type- so no, I don't really want more for me like my 'joke' suggests- only poking fun at what I perceived to be ridiculous whining.

Sadly, I was actually considering lending you a hand there depending on your reaction to my fun but, unfortunately your shallow and unresearched reaction to it has made me 'unfeeling' today. Good news though- I bet one of the websites' 1500+ members will help you out!

Good luck finding your needs met with the toys, I'm sure you won't need it :P

Charming conversation...

It's ok to be annoyed with Hasbro over exclusives like this show's McFigures...  Brand new figures, hottest sub-line to the basic figure line in ages really, one likely available afterwards but the other figure being completely up in the air as to whether or not it'll be a tough one to track down...  THere's some pretty valid reasoning there to be "pissed off" at Hasbro.

Whether you can track down help...  It's best to ask early.  C3 Vader was EASY to get ahold of, and it was EASY to get stuck with them too after the show...  THese, I don't think will be so easy to get stuck with but I'm truly hoping our folks going (who work for the site and who just frequent our boards here) are gonna be able to help out as many people as possible get these McFigures as easily as possible.

Poddie, see if you can get on the "I want a figure list"...  I can't recall where it is, but it's around here somewhere (check the C4/Conventions part of the forums, I think it's there).  I think someone will help you out as long as you cover cost + shipping.

Kudos to Jesse and Jeff on breaking this story oh so long ago...these are more than welcome additions to the collection.  Which leaves probably one possible McQuarrie figure left.  Lando?  I hope so

At first, I wasn't happy hearing that these were con exclusives.

But then again, it's one less McQuarrie figure that I'll have to fight the vultures for at retail. That would be worth the extra cash to me.

I'm so ambivilent at this point about it it's not even funny.  It irks me a little these are exclusives.  Then I know I'll be able to nab them either through the good graces of JD, or the not so good graces of ebay.  I'll get them.  No worries.  I just don't like the fact that the best part of this hobby is starting to become work.  I can't even find the Mc Fett in the stores, let alone a freakin' exclusive.  I liked it better last year when I was poor and did not have the luxury of affording things I couldn't find.   :)

Yeah good work to the news crew on scooping that up...  I figured it would be McFigures for SDCC but the pink astromech is a surprise.  I wasn't so sure on the pink astromech though...  till I saw it's a tribute figure, as I was thinking it was a tribute to Lucas's daughters (busy night, don't ask)...  It's nice then.  It's different too, a nice astromech for something special.

Yeah on the McFigures though...  :)  Just wish these exclusives would friggin' end at this point.

One way or another I'll get these. If I know anyone going, I'll have them hook me up. Otherwise I'll try trading or Ebay. Granted it'd be nice to be able to get these anywhere, but my life will go on if I can't get them right away.

Great news, and good job on the scoop awhile back Jeff/Jesse.  I'm really glad to see the Yoda concept coming to figure form, as well as Obi-Wan.  We should have a pretty full lineup by year's end.  Like Scott mentioned, that might only leave maybe Lando at this point.

Wow, these do look nice.  This McQuarrie line has just been great this year, and hopefully these (and the C4 exclusives) won't be too tough for everyone to pick up.  With this exclusive pricing though, I'm starting to question the extra carded set a little bit - its really adding up at $15-$20 a pop.
