One of the favorites from way back in my youth:

Never heard of yours though Brent! ::) I think the one "hit" in question should at least be something that made it into Billboard's Top 10 or so... :-* EDIT: OK, I just looked it up in my Music Bible here at the office, and at least you apparently came pretty close there B. It hit #18 way back in 1977 (yawn). But you could at least try to pick one that the rest of the gang (who's not fast approaching 40) can recognize and appreciate also, eh?!? ;D
Wow are ya that old Morgy??? ;)
Yeah, yeah. It ain't disco, so don't go crappin' on me punk.
Who sang Eye of the Tiger (from the Rocky movie)? Would that be more suitable to the age grouping here?
Can Baby Matt provide me with a suitable range of years :-*
Now go vacuum something Matt.
Walk like an Egyptian, The Bangles. I don't remember anything else by them on the radio and certainly nothing else that popular.
I thought that's probably a band Matt loved growing up. :-*
1. Vanilla Ice was NOT a one hit wonder. Ice Ice Baby may have been the only single you heard, but he did have a few platinum hits before he went the way of the Dodo. One was "Play that Funky Music". Another popular track was Havin a Roni, and WHO could forget the theme song from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2....NINJA RAP!!! He was the Eminem of his day....
Not sure if I'd go as far as to call him that era's Eminem now... But Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go! was definitely a classic and one of the finest soundtrack performances of the time!
Not sure about some of those others though Josh. I'm equally confused on a few...
So name one band and their one hit song!!!!! Try to keep it to only one band per reply so that everyone can name one!!!!
Livin' la Vida Loca by Ricky Martin
Please God, no more.
Amadeus by Falco
This guy's dead. No chance at redemption here.
EDIT: Whoops, looks like Josh already beat me to some of these rebuttals!
Are you kidding? I was in high school around the time of Vanilla Ice, and he was HUGE for awhile there. Him and MC Hammer. The only difference I see between him and Eminem is Eminem hasn't fallen yet. Give him another couple of years.
Falco also had Vienna Calling..... and DER KOMMISAR (which was a huge hit).
I just don't think they're that comparable since Eminem seems to generally be more respected throughout the rap community, has already had a much longer shelf life, and has had a lot more hit songs, including a couple with Dre...
T'Pau was a band around that time too, what was their single?
Wishing Well by Terrance Trent Darby
He claimed his album was going to be bigger than the Beatles Sgt. Peppers album. After that, his career went down the crapper.
Buzzzz. Sorry, Terrance Trent D'arby had another hit in the early 90's with "She Kissed Me".
Hold me now Thompson Twins
Joan Osborne - One of us
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
CCCP - American Soviets
Tainted Love Soft Cell ???
I'm going to agree with Dale on this one. Those other songs got a lot of airplay in their day.
Was "I Ran" by "A Flock of Seagulls" a 1 hit wonder?
I'm going to agree with Dale on this one. Those other songs got a lot of airplay in their day.
The thing is, Dale's referring to another artist named Cristopher Cross, Brent. Not the same Kris Kross that I was just referring to. Get it...? :-*
So is somone going to chime in with Kris Kristofferson now... ;D
My next contribution:
Forever Young by Alphaville
Here's my "actors should never sing" one-hit wonder contributions:
Eddie Murphy - Party All the Time
Kris Kross: Jump
Bridge Over Troubled Water by Clay Aiken!
Good call, although disturbing that you know the name of his song already.
Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon (sp?)
Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon (sp?)
Not true, he also had a hit with Lawyers, Guns and Money. He might of had more, but those two are the most played on classic rock stations.
Stuck in the Middle Stealers Wheel.
Again, an oldie but I suspect with fairly universal airplay?
Guess I'll let it slide, but c'mon Brent - you gotta pick some songs that the rest of us were at least around for! I suppose if I was listening to the radio when I was 2 1/2 I might've heard this one...
Next song:
Informer by Snow...
How about Come on Eileen, Dexy's Midnight Runners.
Damn, I just can't win :( I think I know something and I get shot down just like that. At least allow me to boost my ego a little bit here, Matt :-*
Something perhaps from the years when Matt had teeth...
Echo Beach Martha and the Muffins. ;D
Carry on wayward son Kansas.
Oh, I know they probably had other songs, but I can't think of any that were popular.
