Title: 2010 Disney Star Tours Box Set
Post by: Jeff on November 17, 2009, 10:37 AM
No details on what the set will contain, but confirmation of a new Star Tours box set was offered up in the Q&A @ RTM (http://toymania.com/news/messages/11699.shtml):

2. With the announcement that Star Tours at Disneyland getting a makeover in 2011, will we finally see non-droid Star Tours characters made? I'm talking about the flight crew (cast members), Teek or the Mon-Calamari flight controller? A full-sized Star Speeder 3000 that could double as a carrying case would be a welcome addition as well.

Answer: Yes, there will be some new non-Droid characters debuting in a special Star Tours themed set next year. Stay tuned for new of that right around Toy Fair time. As for a full-sized Star Speeder 3,000... not a chance that we'll do anything to interact with 3-3/4" figures.

So, non-droid characters from Star Tours - good idea?  bad idea?

Awesome.  I am the scummer that has been asking the questions about Ewok figures from the Ewok movies being made in the past few RS.com's QnA's.  So this makes me very happy about this new pack.  While I have never been to/seen this "Star Tours" thingy - I am betting this is where Teek will be placed - and I couldn't be happier!

There was a smaller model of the Star Speeder 3000 made several years ago and sold at Disney parks.  Depending on how one fudges their scales, it could either be between 1:48 and 1:64 scale.  It had the droid pilot figure, R2D2, a full cabin with seats, opening doors, and well-integrated lights and sound.  I never got one myself, but my younger brother did.  I do have some of the Star Tours droids on the POTF2 cards, however.

As for the ride, if you have not been on it, fork over the cash and go to Disneyland (or Disneyworld).  The ride is totally worth it.  While the time has come for a makeover, I still really love the "Original Trilogy" feel of the existing ride at the Disneyland Park in California.  It does an excellent job of making you feel like you've entered the Star Wars Universe, even if the events are a little non-cannon.  Having grown up with the original films, Star Tours was such an awesome experience when I firs rode it as a kid in the late 1980s.  I got to do all the Star Wars things I wanted to do: go to lightspeed, fly through an asteroid field, shoot TIE fighters in a space battle, and fly the Death Star trench run.  Too bad all kids know these days are the prequals and the Clone Wars cartoons... They're just not the same.

and what stinks is that I am actually planning on taking a road trip to Disney World this year for Christmas (driving from NW Indiana to Orlando) and I would have to pay to enter a different park to see this.  I really wish that wasn't the case but I don't think I have enough time/cash to justify hitting up another park for one attraction.

please correct if I am wrong about Star Tours being in a seperate park from the Magic Kingdom.

Is Teek actually a part of this? I've never been on the ride.

Anyway, if so then heck yeah, I'm all for Teek being made. I've got a friend that would be absolutely elated if Teek were made.

I picked up this years Jedi Training set and I actually liked it. I definitely do not mind nice looking generic characters as long as they are not too Disney looking. I am bored of droids so some non droid characters are welcomes. One of my favorite figures in my collection is the Star Tours R5-D2. With Comics packs going to the SKU grave and less exclusives I am more than happy to get more offerings like this.

Blech - no thanks.  I liked the Jedi Acadamy set enough to buy two of them, but not interested in the Star Tours crew at all.  I'm a hard core completist and I still haven't bothered to pick up all of the Star Tours Droids.

Regardless of whether it's a good idea or not, it makes sense from Disney's POV.

While I'd buy crew members, no questions asked.  I got all the Star Tours stuff, being one of the few 1980s Star Wars areas left mostly unexplored before 2000, I'd gladly go grab more.   Bring that stuff on, I'm all for it.   (Heck, put a crew member or two in a box with Teek and two droid repaints and I'd probably even overpay for it.)  I'm 100% behind more 1980s-based stuff, the weirder, the better.

He is in the pre-flight video, that shows you to buckle your seat belt, and no flash photography, etc.

Okay Hasbro, you heard it here.  Please produce 5 boxes of the Crew Member set for Adam and the 4 other people who might be interested in Star Tours crew members.  Blech.

Paul, thank you VERY much for the help on this next time you're there.  I appreciate it.

I actually was expecting semi-expensive considering the Star Tours figures...  Those things were quite pricey for what they were.  I was lucky to get a lot of the WEG-1618 or whatever it was (looks like some industrial droid) for uber cheap at the local toy show.

And perhaps the first glimpse of a figure for this set turned up tonight...

It's an incredibly funky orange and blue redeco of the POTJ Imperial Officer figure.

(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/010Disney_StarToursOfficerLoose01_TN.jpg) (http://www.JediDefender.com)
Clicky to check him out.

Very odd looking.  I'm not a huge Star Tours guy so I had no clue what this was.  I've not been to Disney since I was 12 and never been on the ride, so thanks to Scott for pointing out to me what this appears to be.

Assuming this is meant for this boxed set, I'm kind of curious what else could be coming in it.  I liked a lot of the droids they did, but this figure's not quite my cup of tea.  Will there be more interesting stuff in there?  Tough to say right now.

Actually, this is suppost to be a Star Tours Cast Member. They don't where the hat though but the uniform coloring is right. Notice the star tours patch on the right arm. Of course, they are typically wearing either all orange or all blue and not both. Maybe it's the new uniforms for Star Tours 2? If so, God help the poor cast members!

Considering the costumes/uniforms that the cast members generally wear this one fits right in with the rest.  Not that their uniforms look particularly Star Warsy, but they look pretty Disney.

I think the figure looks fine considering this will probably only be for sale in the Disney parks.  People buy pretty much whatever is out for sale in the parks, so I doubt they'll be disappointed in sales.  Hopefully the rest of the set will be more exciting.

That's an understatement. They could have at least used the Scanning Crew Mold so he would be a Terrible SA figure. I hope the rest of the set fares better than this dude. He does look very Pod Racer "Mechanic-ish".

Wow, I did not think we could go below the Crucible Power Rangers figs, but there you have it.

This doesn't bother me as much as the Power Ranger set.  The Star Tours stuff was always meant to be very, very family friendly and aimed at a young audience.  What was lame was that the Power Ranger set was that was it was aimed at adult collectors who where familiar with the source material.

The more I stare at this the more I like him.

I am so making a Fast Food bag for this dude.

Neat.  If it's anything like the exclusive Transformers repaints that sometimes leak, the head probably isn't final.  Or at least, I hope it isn't final.  Nice idea, you can kinda make out the Star Tours patch on his sleeve.

I'm curious what the other figures in the set will ultimately turn out to be.  That may be a major reason why they're using the figure they are, as Hasbro's said in the past that sometimes when they put together a pack like this they're limited to the molds they have on-hand for certain figures.

I've gotta see something else from the set to gauge my interest in it ultimately, but right now the orange/blue Imp Officer ain't flyin' with me much.  Then again I really think the whole Star Tours thing is kinda meh anyway.  I liked half the droids they put out well enough, and I thought one or two of them were actually really fantastic, but yeah, the guy there is pretty lame.

I wouldn't count on that figure changing either...  Generally what gets out there like that is the final product, especially considering the hat's paintjob, the new hair color, etc.

Well I just ordered a Teek.  Because I'm extremely impatient.   (Or extremely patient, depending on your perspective when it comes to time waited.)  Got an orange dude too.  I'll probably buy the set when it hits, but it's reaaaaaaaally hard to say no to Teek.  The Kaink looked good and if she had her gear I'd shell out for her early...

Yeah with as much as I have been clamoring about about how badly I wanted Teek you would think I would have bought one - I passed and am holding off for the retail set.  $18 is a lot for one figure - I can wait.

One thing I am curious about though is how does one acquire one of these sets other than taking a trip down to Florida?  Other than of course a fellow collector grabbing for others, are there web sites that typically will also sell these sets?
Title: Re: 2010 Disney Star Tours Box Set
Post by: shmashwitdaclub on February 12, 2010, 09:17 AM
also, I was just doing some comparisons between the photos of Kaink and Teek.  Judging by the lettering behind them and their relative positions it looks as if Teek is a bit taller than Kaink.  So, his height may be off quite a bit.  From what I recall in the movies he was just a bit taller than Wicket, and the pics I am finding on the net pretty much confirm that.

So, Teek may tower over any upcomming Wicket.  Kaink appears to utilize the same mold and head sculpt of Keoulkeech (Graak body) from the WM comic pack from what i can tell.

However it shakes out I will definitely be getting one - just thought I would share what I am seeing.

This has sadly gone down the list of wants for me...  Teek and "Taint" ar eok, but Teek's not a real priority for me I guess.  I'm more interested in the goofy hood on "Taint".  I could whip up my own fuzzy cloth hood for "Taint" though. :)

It actually caught a couple of us off-guard when photographing the Ewok that this hat was cloth and not a sculpted piece.  That's what happens when you're focused on other stuff.

I just got the Star Tours Crew Dude, Teek, and Kaink (sans hood) in the mail from eBay.

- The Star Tours guy has a shoulder tampo but either my sample is incomplete or it's just cruddy. There is a lot of very subtle deco-- so subtle you can't really see it in the photos, like little red lines indicating an opening on his shirt pockets.  I kinda wish I had a Starspeeder for him to sit around in.

- Teek is smaller than expected and has tiny, tiny, tiny hands. Decent sculpt, articulated (but non-ball jointed) ankles, swivel wrists, etc.  He's probably going to be good enough for the Teek faithful, I'm pretty happy with him.

- Kaink (without hood) is an Ewok. Without a hood.  Her eyes seem to be painted to be more in line with the look of the telefilms, brown with a black dot in the middle.

Also got Kota's Militia in this shipment, which is pretty swell overall.  He has removable shoulder armor, which is unexpected. I think it's for articulation reasons, because otherwise it seems kinda annoying.

I missed out on the Teek as he sold out when I got the info. This set is going to be a real pain to get and expensive to boot as I will have to get it off ebay unless Mr.Tungohri restocks. I really do not get why they bothered to tool up a three eyed very dated bulky 80's style camera for Ree-Yees when they should have either tooled up a hood/coat combo for Kaink or her staff instead. It's still cool we are getting Teek and another Ewok.

(I also did not get why last years set used the Tattooine ani body for the older Padawan when they have the EP1 Jedi Anakin Body that would have been much better to use.)

On another note I also picked up 5 Kota Troopers, I really dig them and gave them some less cumbersome weapons.

I think I'm pretty set on NOT wanting this set.

Ironically I probalby only want the Ewok "Taint" or whatever his name is.

Teek's never been interesting to me, and god knows the other figures blow so I'm easily walking away from this one right now.  I was tempted for Teek and Taint there briefly but I'm finding it easier and easier to say "no" to stuff like that these days.

The more I think about this set the more I see it as a slap in the face.  Certain collectors have been wanting Teek for sooooooooooooooooooo long, self included, and now, from what I understand, I will be paying $40 plus tax and shipping if I decide I want to get him via buying the whole set route...

Clown imp trooper - no thanks

ancient Chewbacca - I might be able to sell him at a garage sale for 50 cents

ree-yees - again, ancient figure - but at the same time I don't have him so I am not too hurt by this - but then again, I bet I can pick him up loose mint from someone on the interwebs for $2   and ooo he comes with a unique camera......

Kaink - I woulda loved this figure - it is a slap in the face to me as a collector that Hasbro skimped out so much on her.  Cloth hood - she'll stand out like a sore thumb from the rest of the Ewoks - no staff?!?!?!  Her staff and her unique outfit was what made her.  It makes me worry what the hell hasbro will **** up when they do get around to finally do Chukha-Trok.

But watch, this set will fail due to the incredibly horrible price and sub par figure selection - Hasbro will claim there is no market for Chukha-Trok - and they won't do him....   >:(

Isn't this set an exclusive to the Disney parks?  If you've been to any of the parks lately and seen the stuff that sells, to Parents and kids, you'd probably be shocked.  I get that we're all collectors here, but this set isn't aimed at us.  This is aimed at the folks who are slightly sunburned, have been eating soft-pretzels and ice-cream all day and are tired of Johnny asking if he can get "this" everytime they go by a souvenir stand.

I would agree with you about this set and the intentions as you describe if it didn't have Teek in it.  When else do you think Hasbro is going to pack Teek in a set?

Hasbro knows they have some collectors buy the balls on this one.

The things you can buy at Disneyland's Star Trader include:

- Hot wheels cars that look like star wars characters - ie. vadercar
- Disney characters dressed up as star wars characters - figures, bobbleheads, shirts, etc.
- Muppet characters dressed up as star wars characters
- Deformed star wars characters dressed up as star wars characters
- old mid size star wars vehicles
- glasses and mugs
- a wall full of legends Sasseee figures. No other figures but this one.
- build lightsaber sets
- backpacks.
- expensive statues
- jedi academy six pack.

I'd say this fits in perfectly.

I've see people all the time drop $30 to "build a custom lightsaber" when they can buy the entire set of interchangable pieces for the same price at walmart for less.

I think it's a matter of Hasbro knowing they have collectors by the balls, and of course knowing this will sell like everyone's mentioned.  The Disney Park stuff moves to the kids wanting souveniers and this will too.  I'm pretty set now on not getting one myself.  I just can't see me caring about Teek or Taint that much.

Maybe they will put the figures in a box with a mirror background. That way three will look like six.

while this is a "souvenier set", you gotta remember this is also a "goodbye set" - and in that sense it has more of a collector nod to it.  This set is coming out in the end of May iirc, and and Star Tours is supposedly closing down for its upcoming re-vamp in October - and then will not be re-opening until 2011.  If the kiddies/collectors don't gobble these up before October (roughly 5 months) - I would think Hasbro/Disney will be sitting on them because the kiddies/parents of kiddies won't buy a $40 souvenier set for an attraction they know nothing about and is now closed if they are "newbies".

And I am just gonna go ahead and bet right now that Teek nor Kaink won't be in the upcomming attraction, and the clown colored imps won't be there either - nor Ree-Yees.

edit:  just saw that Tunghori has 1 whole set up for auction now - it is already up to $31 plus it is going to cost $20 shipping...  wow - some people REALLY want this whole set!

Well, the set is due to come out at the end of May, just in time for the very popular Star Wars Weekends events at Disney, a time when the park is heavy with SW fans in additon to the normal folks.    AND, before the ride closes in October, you've got SW Celebration 5 in August, bringing another wave of SW fans/collectors to the area.

Add in the fact that it's limited to 15,000 and will likely be spread around to different places (Disneyland, Disney Hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney, etc), I really don't think they will have a problem selling them.

I think the repaint of the officer is a pretty good nod to what they were there at Star Tours myself.  I don't really want the set myself.  I don't blame them for not making an all new mold for one of them really.  It's fine for what it is supposed to represent.
Title: Re: 2010 Disney Star Tours Box Set

I do not think anyone would have liked the officer but I think many of us would have liked the Legacy Scanning Trooper mold instead of a 2001 mold. It would have made this a little bit of an easier pill to swallow. I am getting one despite the flaws, that "Officer" is my "Intergalactic Burger Joint customer Sales Associate".

they are different sellers - the first time around it was with Tunghori, now its ws_toys.

still not certain which way I wanna go with this set...  Get just Teek for $20, or have phruby nab me one for $40 plus tax and shipping.  That way I will have "Kaink" - which will never see the light of day again - and I get the clown imp (not really wanted - but it will be "unique" in the collection) - and Ree-Yees with camera (meh).

Thinking I am leaning towards phruby.
Title: Re: 2010 Disney Star Tours Box Set
Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on April 12, 2010, 11:44 AM
I am going to hold out for the entire set, I do like these Disney sets, last years was very nice. My only complaint with last years they had the opportunity tio reuse the EP1 Jedi Padawan anakin body but for some reason the used the Slave body. It was a good value for the generic Jedi & Padawans to fill out the ranks.

While many are unhappy with the 3 other figures in this years sets 9I do not disagree) to get really obscure characters like Teek are worth it to me at the end of the day. It's not like they are dumping a ton of these types of sets on us. 1-2 a year is cool with me. I hope to see Ackmena in one of these types of box sets one day. I would gladly pay for 4 other figures I already have to get a newly tooled Ackmena figure.

One last thing I will comment on with this set is I think it would have been better to tool Kaink's Staff instead of an 80's style alien camera......

Ok guys. According to Endor Express.net, the Disney Star Tours passager box set will be available at WDW and Disneyland on May 21st. That gives me a window of May 24-27th to pick up sets for everyone.  After that, I can't get in to Disneyland until August.

Currently, I have Peter_fett and Evenflow down for a set. Anyone else?  PM me so I can keep better track.

Sorry guys. No luck. They weren't at the Star Trader in Disneyland. The cast members didn't know anything about it (typical) and there wasn't a empty space for them. Disney always keeps the shelves packed with stock. If you buy something, they immediately replace it with another. They did have those stupid Disney/Star Wars crossover two packs. I might be able to try again on thursday.

I SCORED!!!!!

I saw them behind the cash register at the Star Trader! I asked the CM if I could have ten. She said, "10!, ok... we can do that." She asked another CM to go get ten for me. She came back out with a fresh case that we opened together. So, I picked up everthing everyone wanted including the extra Mike/R2 pack for shmashwitdaclub. I filled out the form to pick them up at the end of the day at the newstand at the front of the park. On my way out they were neatly packaged and ready for me as I left the park. Disney rocks!

I'll send each of you final totals tomorrow. They are fairly long but thin boxes. Tell me if you want them boxed or loose.

Teek is an extremely welcome addition to my collection - and is a decent figure as well.

too bad the rest of the set pretty craptastic.  Kaink isn't as terrible as I anticipated

Kudos to Paul for always being willing to help out on Disney Exclusives...  Between Paul Hruby and Paul Mundheim, everyone usually is pretty able to get what they need/want.

I'm real tempted to get that R2 w/Mickey set, as that's a unique astromech repaint and pretty spiffy at that, but the price deters me.  :-\

I went to Disneyland today. The Star Tours Boarding Party is available for $35 at the Star Trader, Engieer Toys (in DCA) and outside in the World of Disney. They also have the Sneak Preview Star Speeder 1000 from C5 available at all three locations for $25.

No, it is an Action Fleet sized replica (die cast?) (http://www.rebelscum.com/c5/disneypanel/DSCN0203.JPG) of the new Star Speeder.

Right It's basically the repainted orange one with the new voice that Jeff pictures. It's not diecast. Just the repaint exclusive from C5. I guess they didn't get rid of all 10,000. There are alot of them hanging around. ::)

Here is a shot of them at Disneyland's Star Trader. They've replaced the white Star Speeder 3000 with these.
