Title: VOTC/OTC Purchases
Post by: Brian on July 12, 2004, 02:11 PM
Well, since it sounds like the OTC (and VOTC) are starting to show up around the country (even here in Nebraska!), I thought it would be nice to see what everyone is finding, buying, or passing on.  What do you have, what do you have left to get this year?  With the massive repacks, I know many will be having a Star Wars figure break here for awhile.

Here's what I've gotten so far:

Vintage Original Trilogy Collection
Han Solo (Amazon.com)

Original Trilogy Collection
Luke Skywalker - Dagobah (Wal-Mart)
Yoda - Dagobah (Wal-Mart)
Obi-Wan Kenobi Spirit - Dagobah (Wal-Mart)
R2-D2 - Dagobah (Wal-Mart)
Han Solo repack (Wal-Mart)

I've also seen a few more OTC repacks, but passed on them.  For now, I'm looking ahead to the rest of the VOTC line (maybe 2 of each, we'll see), the OTC Bespin wave, and repacks such as Bespin Luke, Gamorrean Guard, General Lando, Slave Leia, and possibly Bib Fortuna or the Jawas (their repaint looks pretty good).

Nice to see a fresh topic here.

Let's see, so far I have found at retail a lot of the repacks, but no Dagobah Luke/Yoda/Ben.

Here's what I've been able to buy so far, all openers for me:

- Dagobah R2D2
- Cloud Car Pilot
- Bespin Leia
- Lobot
- Jedi Luke

By far my favorite so far is the Clound Car Pilot, he has awesome articulation and a great sculpt.  I want several more, maybe up to a dozen altogether.

And I have been informed by the wife that my VOTC Han and Leia arrived today! :)

Only Lobot so far for me.  I intend to change that, of course.   :)

I dropped out of collecting for a couple of years, but jumped right back in with the OTC. Passed on the Bespin wave last Tuesday only to grab three on Friday and the other 17 on Sunday. I guess you could say I'm back in the game with all 20.  Here we go again. ::)

I REALLY like the OTC stuff because I didn't pick up most of the POTJ/Saga re-cards to begin with. Most will be brand new to me. Doesn't hurt that the cardbacks are stunning and very attractive when grouped together either.

Nice to have another 'Old Timer' stop by and visit us here at ye olde JediDefender as well.  I remember you from the other boards, long ago...  Hope you enjoy the friendly, cozy confines of JD, and feel free to give us a holler if you have any questions or comments about the place.  Looking forward to seeing you around the boards here...   8)

I just ordered Han, Leia, and Obi-Wan at Amazon. Yay!

I've been very tempted to do this as well, and I have actually been surprised that they have stayed "in stock" over there.  I did order a Han from them last week, while ordering some other stuff, but I have held off on the Obi and Leia so far.  I guess I'm afraid of ordering them (and paying a little more, with shipping), and then finding that they aren't nearly as "limited" as we originally thought.  I'm still tempted to order them though, and I know if figures from the next couple waves show up there, I probably will.

Also, forgot to mention earlier, I also picked up the Darth Vader TIE at TRU.  I never had this ship in any form before, so it was a good chance to pick it up (and in some nice packaging).  It is just sitting in the closet in the box for now though, I need some more room for ships (and all of this!) :)  Good luck to everyone in their searches!

Yay! I got the Bespin wave in the mail this morning so I’ve FINISHED my OTC collection!

OK, so I’m avoiding all the rehashes, but I’ve completed the line according to my own goals anyway  :P.  The line looks good, but I’m running out of space, so I’m just going to stick with the first issues that I already have.

Now it is on to the VOTC.  These are being very slow in making it over here, so it’s going to be quite tough.  Still, I have the rest of the year to get only 12 figures, so my wallet should be in better shape.

Really haven't been looking lately but because of my recent complete disappointment in Kebco, I canceled my account and will start looking again more frequently.

So today, I decided to stroll into Walmart during lunch.  Nothing new down the regular toy aisle, but a few rows down an end cap was filled with OTC cards.  Only picked up the one new figure they, Dagabah R2.  Plenty of IG-88, Bossks, Bespin Lukes, etc. though.  Hopefully, the new figures will start showing up in more abundance.

Scored the Dagobah Wave today...  Got VOTC the other day, though I still need Luke.

K-Mart here got them all in a-plenty but Luke who's MIA I believe still...

My KM was $10.49 a figure while others were $9.99.  From what I have nticed, any KM that wasn't near anything else had them up $.50 while every KM near a WM, Target, TRU or whatever had them at the $9.99 price.  I got mine for the higher price since i'm in BFE and KM is all there is, but reports from the city were vastly different.

Toys R Us had them here as well today when I scored the OTC Dagobah wave at Target and stuff...  Saw remnants of OTC Dagobah wave at a WM as well.

No Bespin Wave, but I'm looking...  Want a Stormie or two as well.

Saturday I found Dagobah Luke, R2 and Yoda, as well as Jedi Luke, ANH R2, TIE Pilot, Bespin Luke, IG88 and Bossk. Today I added to that Bespin Leia, Lobot, Cloud Car Pilot, Wicket, Stormy, Old Ben, Fett and 3PO. The first batcxh was found at Meijer while the latter was at Wal*Mart. I can't wait to find the other twenty one figures. Unfortunately after that I'll probably have to wait till the end of the year or later before anything new shows up unless they expand the basic OTC line.

Well, for vehicles, I'm doing quite well, as I've picked up the Tie, Vader's Tie and X-Wing.

Not so hot for figures. I've picked up a lone Biker Scout. One of only 2 figures I've seen so far. And that's one figure at each of 2 different stores.  ::)  The other was a beat up Obi-Wan Kenobi, which didn't cut it for my MOMC collection.

I've got a trade pending for the OTC Tie (sucker) and Dagobah Luke.  All the VOTC are on order with BBTS and I'll be ending up with extras of Luke, Han, Obi, Leia, Lando and Vader.  I foresee Colman disease setting in with VOTC.

We went on a grocery/house stuff trip to Wal-Mart yesterday, and I was able to pick up the Bespin wave.  They had 3x each of Cloud Car Pilot, Lobot, and Bespin Leia.  They didn't have any other OTC figures out there, but did have the lightsabers as well.  This Wal-Mart had been a wasteland for Star Wars for awhile before this, so maybe all of them are getting some of this product in.  I guess, as far as "new" OTC figures, I'm done for almost the rest of the year now.  That's a strange feeling.  Hopefully Hasbro will have some surprises next week at Comic-Con...until then, the search is on for the VOTC. :)
Title: Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
Post by: DoctorPadawan on July 14, 2004, 09:54 AM
I found the three ANH VOTC at a local K-Mart yesterday at the 10.49 price point (odd, since there is a Target and a Wal-Mart within a two mile radius of this particular store).  I thought I had come up empty when I saw the unopened case sitting under a bunch of other boxes on a stock pallet.  Against my better judgment (having experienced the wonders of TRU and WM stockers who believe pallet items are sacred and are not actual product to be sold, but a magical portal to a distant enchanted land where they rule they world), I asked one of the employees if I could open the case, she called a toy rep and he came out, helped me move the boxes out of the way and cut the case open for me himself.  I then helped him move the other boxes back, thanked him profusely, and I had my three VOTC figures.

The Target about a mile or so away had gotten a case of the Dagobah wave, so I was able to pick up a Yoda and complete that set of figures.  All eleven other figures were literally still hanging there as I left, along with one each of the Vader and Luke sabers (although the Saga/CW sabers had magically disappeared and I was hoping to score an Anakin or Obi-Wan saber on clearance, since I still need a blue saber for my armory).  ;D

Still no sign of anything past the Dagobah wave case, Galactic Heroes, or VOTC Luke though.  Once I get the Bespin wave, the Bespin Luke repaint, and the AT-ST Han (which I missed out on in Saga), all I will have to look for from here until the end of the year is the VOTC stuff and the Target Slave I.

OTC Wave 8 (EE)
OTC Wave 10 (EE)

And I've got the following Pre-Ordered:
vOTC wave 2.5 (x2 at EE)
vOTC wave 3 (x1 at EE)

I, too, am selling my extra OTC figures (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=23;action=display;threadid=4755), the left-overs from my case purchases.  (shameless plug) :)

Haven't found anything OTC/vOTC at retail yet though...

I just found a fresh case of the first round of 12 inch OTC figures. Strangely, there weren't any Stormies, just three each of Boba and Luke. I'd stopped collecting 12 inch, but these looked too cool to pass up.

The TRU here in town received the VOTC shipment, which I came across yesterday.  I'm still working on the Mrs. to get two sets of all of these, but for now I settled on picking up another Han.  I finally have my first VOTC figure opened up now  :P.  Getting a closer inspection, this is really one amazing figure.

I know, I so badly want two sets of these.  I think when it comes down to it, I'll be doing the loose set for sure (I just enjoy them more that way), and I'll work on talking the Mrs. into getting carded extras.  For now, just Han and Chewie is what I've been able to pitch...but hopefully all 12 when its said and done.  We'll see...I guess at $10 a piece, it can get a little pricey.

That said, I'm really liking this Han now that I have it opened and have posed it a little.  Part of me just wants to take these 12 figures and display them on their own, away from the rest of the collection.  The line (at least the majority of it), is just so well done.  Is anyone unhappy with this line, or certain aspects of it?  Do you think they are worth the $10 (packaging considered)?  Are you going to display these with your normal collection, or seperately?  Just curious.  They are nice though.  I sometimes wonder if they can improve on some of these any further (Han, Stormtrooper in particular come to mind).
Title: Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
Post by: Jeff on July 23, 2004, 03:58 PM
That's a good question.

I had plans for where each vOTC figure would go in my displays/dioramas (Leia at Yavin 4, Han talking with Jabba, Ben with CT R2 and FB 3PO), but now that they are open and on a shelf together, they look GREAT together.

I have pretty much just changed my mind on this one and now, I'll be leaving them together on a shelf.  I just hope that the further waves (ESB and RoTJ) stick to the scale they established.  It could be as close as we get to having the basic version of each figure in the true scale.

If the upcoming Vader and Chewie look silly/short compared to the rest, I'll probably just change my mind and separate them... but as long as they look good, I'm gonna keep them all together on a shelf!

Got the OTC Bespin Wave today.

ALL 3 are winners, though Leia's left a bit wanting...  Rather lame, unposeable Leia, and honestly my Leia Collection Leia's staying on Han's arm.  OTC one will maybe be posed in my Bespin set-up then...  One of the rare times one of the exact same character will share shelf-space.

The Lobot is great (could be better, but for Lobot, he's great) and Cloud Car Pilot is awesme from top to bttom.

No goofy leaning either, like he appeared to have in some photos.  That's a GOOD thing.

I don't know about you guys, but the OTC seems to be selling through rather quickly around here.  I didn't get to visit all the stores in town, but the Wal-Mart nearest to us that had the OTC is now totally sold out (in a week), and the TRU that had a peg full of VOTC (3x Han, 3x Obi, 2x Leia) on Thursday had one Obi left on Saturday.  Not surprising though, hope we can find the ESB and ROTJ figs though.  Case ordering is becoming awfully tempting now :).

Just curious, is everyone able to find what they are looking for from the VOTC/OTC lines?  I was fortunate enough to find the 7 new OTC figures the first week they were released here (but haven't seen them, or any others, since).  I ordered the VOTC first three through Amazon, and did see the same wave at TRU here in town once, but they were sold out in a day (did grab an extra Han though).  I have read lots of reports of people finding the VOTC in different locations now, do you think they will be as tough to get a hold of as we worried they would be?  Are they selling through where you are seeing them?  We've only had them at TRU here (once) so far, and sold out...but I know others have seen them at Target, Wal-Mart, etc.  Hopefully the ESB and ROTJ waves won't be impossible to locate.  Just curious how it was looking in your areas now...last time I checked (Tuesday), things had all but dried up OTC wise in town (other than multiple "Ask Yodas" and Jedi Council sets at TRU).

Yes, for the exception of the Bespin Luke/IG-88/Bossk wave.  That wave hasn't hit my area yet.  I'd really to pick up a Bespin Luke from that wave.  Other than that, I'm set.  And of course, I'm looking forward to picking up VOTC Vader (when it hits) and VOTC Stormtrooper.

It's been sporadic around So Cal, at best.  I hit a nice OTC motherload (8 diff. figures) last week, but other than that, it's just been one or two, here and there.  I think I've got just about half of the OTC releases now.  Long way to go, and I hate feeling so far behind!   :P

The VOTC's been a lot easier to find though, at least the Han, Leia, and Ben.  Been seeing those en masse at a few WMs, Targets, and K-marts.  Getting burnt out on seeing them already!  Still haven't seen a Luke yet though...

Plenty of vehicles, Buddies, Ask Yodas, lightsabers, etc., everywhere.

Very spotty up north, at least where I am.

VOTC - Han, Ben, Leia

OTC - Dagobah wave on US cards.  Skipped the rehashes thus far (x-wing Luke, Jedi Luke, Han, Chewie, one of the VAder's, though I know not which it was).  Still none of the famed starburst crap Canuck cards.

Hit a big OTC pile at the local Target.  They moved toys to the baack of the store now for some reason.

They had the entire Dagobah Wave, but only one Luke.  I had them all already so left them...  I nabbed a 2nd VOTC Han Solo, and debated on a Leia.  SHoulda gotten one, but I held off.  I'm more intent on extra Fett's, Chewies, a Vader, a Lando, and extra Stormies.

I saw a few repacks...  They had some Yavin wave remnants that snuck out too, like a TIE Pilot and Antilles.  I nabbed an OTC Greedo...  I have to say, he's really nice.

Greedo, it's funny.  You line up CT then Cantina Set, and this one.  Together they're really like looking at an evolutionary chart.  Like it should have a piece of brocoli first, then like a piece of brocoli with legs and arms, then a sorta hybrid brocoli/Greedo, then Greedo CT, Cantina, and finally OTC.

(BTW I don't know why Greedo reminds me of Brocoli)

They had others...  Luke X-Wing noteably.  I hacked the teeth out of my POTJ figure (see Hasbro, I was thinking faster than you  :P ), so I'm not picking the OTC up.

Not a wasted day today, but no VOTC Luke, and no VOTC Empire wave which is reportedly showing up too.   :-\  Kinda bummed, mostly on the Luke.

I nabbed Dagobah Luke today at WM.  Still in search of Yoda and Spirit Ben.  I saw also but didn't buy the repainted Bespin Luke, Bossk, and IG-88, the first I've seen of those.

The Jedi Luke repack seems like he has a different cape - or is it just packaged differently?

Yeah, that Greedo case hit here in W'loo and CF today. It was damn beautiful seeing all these OTC cards in one place this morning.

Target, however, still has yet to get any basic OTC figures. Same with TRU. The only place that's been getting them with alarming regularity is Wal-Mart.

I nabbed an OTC Greedo...  I have to say, he's really nice.

I second JJ's sentiments. I saw an OTC Greedo today and WOW[/b] what a nice paint job. I didn't pick him up though--I already had a VOTC Vader and Luke in the bag and I just couldn't justify an extra of a figure I already have a few of.

That VOTC Luke really took by surprise. I had no desire or intent to ever pick him up, but when I saw him in real life he looked like really an amazing figure--the soft goods did not come out nearly as wonky as the pics seemed to convey. I bought him and popped him open and I have to say it really is a nice figure.

Vader is up there too. His chain is a little distracting, but if you tilt his head down in a "menacing" pose it lays nice, and even turns with his head. More glittery than I'd expected, I might have to take a Sharpie to it. And my god, that cape--it's enormous and billowing but light and hangs great. Just a great Vader, almost really worth the 10 bucks in and of himself.

So, so far I've only passed up Ben and Yoda VOTCs. The Jedi can't get no love from me.

My good friend Bob (Bobafett14) nabbed me a VOTC Luke, so to that end I'm set!  Very cool.  Now onto VOTC ESB figures.

No 3po, no Lando...  Weird distribution methods Hasbro seem to be using with the VOTC.   :-\

As to Greedo, I was actually going to skip him because I felt this was one of the "rip-off" repaints.  A figure who just saw a pretty good repaint not long ago and all.

The thing is though, and this is what prompted me to bite on this, is that the Rodians in ANH are practically army builders.  There's at least 4 with Jabba when he confronts Han at the Falcon in the SE, and they closely resemble the first CT Greedo.  I figure Wal-Mart Cantina Greedo makes just some nice diversity in the "gang of goons" Jabba would have.

So to that end, to me, those figures (And even POTF2) make ok army builders, to an extent.

And now OTC Greedo's happily taking a seat in the Cantina with Cantina Han...  And all is right with the world.

Anything I can use to justify the purchase of, essentially, the same figure fr a 3rd time. :)

It'll get me through the Gamorrean, Tusken, and Jawas too, as well as TIE Pilots and CT STormies I perhaps run into.

The OTC Strmie really looks crisp.  Quite nice itself.

Nothing much new around here, although the local Wal-Mart is doing their toy aisle reset, and got another batch of the OTC in.  It is nice to see the expanded presence of Star Wars in the aisles again, and that spiffy black and silver packaging.  I did pick up another Dagobah Luke and Yoda (I had the handstand Luke, and decided to keep it carded, looked kind of neat I thought).  They also had Greedo, Stormtrooper, Han Solo, C-3PO, and the Throne Room Vader if I recall correctly.  I was awfully tempted to pick up the Greedo, Stormtrooper and 3PO, even though I already have them.  Even though it is just packaging, it sure makes it awfully tempting to pick up some of those repacks.

They also had 2 each of the 12" Luke and Stormtrooper.  The overall appearance of these (with the vinty packaging) made it tempting, but I don't really collect 12", and couldn't justify dropping $30 on them.  They also had a couple Unleashed Hoth Lukes, and 2 VOTC figures (Han and Leia) for $9.83.  Nothing new at Target or TRU though unfortunately (bring on some more VOTC!).  Oh, and lots of lightsabers everywhere we went ;)

I stopped bothering with retail here in Australia
These shops do nothing here to help collectors during non movie periods and then when some stock comes in they think i'm gonna give em my hard earned cash?
Hell No
Got an online retailer that sells cheaper than retail, gets exclusives in has free shipping on orders over $80 and gets me my stuff fast
This arrived for me today

Got the other 10 OTC on it's way as well should have it from them on Monday or Tuesday
Casefresh.com is the company and as fas as stuff goes in Australia they really can't be beaten on the stock they carry.
Added to the fact their service is exceptional i have no reason to go anywhere else to get my starwars fix.

Well, it's been over a month now since I scored all 20 of the first OTC at once. I've been able to grab the New Hope VOTC wave as well as a VOTC Yoda at retail in that time, but haven't seen a damn thing as far as the OTC goes.

I bit the bullet and ordered the OTC Wave 11 case and VOTC Wave 3 case from EE so all I really need to find at retail is OTC #s 21,22,26,27,28 and VOTC C-3PO. I gotta admit, I'm getting kinda worried about finding those OTC figs on the shelves around here.

Went on a little more extended search this weekend, visiting the Wal-Mart and Target on the other side of town.  Both had OTC/VOTC waves, mainly Dagobah and Bespin figures, as well as a few repacks.  I picked up an extra Dagobah Yoda, the first one I found had kind of messed up paint on the face, and I really like this figure so figured I'd get another one.  Kind of wish I hadn't gotten too impatient with the first VOTC figures (ordering via Amazon), Wal-Mart literally probably had 10 each of Han and Obi, and 3-4 Leias as well.  Target had about 3 each of Han and Obi.  Still, I won't hesitate to pick up figs from the ESB/ROTJ waves if they show up at Amazon, I just don't think those will hang as long as Han and Obi.  Still no signs of Vader, Yoda, or Luke around here though, hopefully soon.

You know, it is really nice to see the Star Wars sections getting expanded again at the stores.  Target and Wal-Mart both seem to have more room allocated to them, and I think the black and silver cards really look nice hanging on the pegs.  Should be a fun next year or so, with the DVDs and Episode III bringing Star Wars to the forefront again.

I just cancelled my order for wave 1 (VOTC) with EE since I came across Ben and Han and decided to buy them.  Now I can see why everyone thought Han was the best, it really is a great figure.  He's going to go great in the cantina scene and should fit well in the Falcon also.  Ben's cape is a little big but I like soft goods better than vinyl or hard plastic so I'll take it.  No luck with Luke, Vader or Yoda but I do have wave 2.5 on order still and will keep it just because it's a one-of-each case.

BUT, I did grab OTC Jawas, Snowtrooper and Tusken Raider repacks at Target tonight!

In fact I scooped up an extra Jawa/Tusken/Snowtrooper for those interested...

So, now I'm set with OTC #1-28, and I'll have all 6 of the currently shipping vOTC (luke, leia, han, ben, vader, yoda) by Friday!  :)

Stopped by TRU on Friday night while we were out and about, and was fortunate enough to find a VOTC Luke and Yoda.  Missed the Vader though.  Our TRU hasn't had any VOTC since about a month ago, and someone who was working there told me they got two "boxes" of them in that morning, and "one guy" came in a bought a stack of them.  Nice employee at TRU though, he was quite excited about the VOTC line, and seemed to be a good guy.  I got the last of the Yoda and Luke, there were still 3-4 Hans hanging out.  Just need Vader to get caught up now, until the others start showing up  :)

I'm still searching as well, but it is the same around here as many of you have seen.  The OTC sells very quickly, and has dried up pretty well around here.  I can see the VOTC Han, Ben, and Leia pretty regularly, and that is about it.  I'm still on the look out for OTC Bespin Luke, Gam. Guard, Bib Fortuna (possibly), Slave Leia, and maybe some Jawas as well.  I'm really hoping to find a VOTC Vader (and the rest of the line).  Hopefully the last two waves will end up being as easy to locate as the ANH wave, but somehow I doubt that :).

Not that I really need it anymore after finding most of the figures at retail, but here's a copy of an e-mail I got today from EE:

"Thank you for ordering from Entertainment Earth. We are sending this e-mail to you because we have been notified by Hasbro that we will not be receiving any additional shipments of Original Trilogy Basic Figures Wave 9, (Item HS84715M), due to the fact that the manufacturer has discontinued this item for production at this point in time. The item has been removed from your order.  You will be given a $5.00 credit to be applied to future orders to reflect the change in the cost of shipping.

Supply on Star Wars – The Original Trilogy Collection action figures has been very tight.  Hasbro has severely limited production on these items."

I wonder how many other cases/pre-orders will get axed too?

That's not good to see, although I'm glad that you've found those figures anyways (and hopefully others have/will as well).  Strange though, we already thought/knew that the VOTC would be hard to come by and limited...but is the OTC going to be too?  It is so popular and sells out around here the way it is, without Hasbro "limiting" cases.  I guess that is one reason its not so bad there are rehashes, and some people (not all) won't be feeling as bad if they miss a figure here or there.

I don't see why Hasbro would want to limit this too much, as it is obviously selling very well for them right now (or it at least seems that way).  Plus, the DVD and movie "push" hasn't even gotten here yet, so it should only get better.  I know the OTC flies off the pegs here, and although I'm not being a completist with the line, I haven't really found any of the "rehashes" that I actually did want to pick up (Bespin Luke, Slave Leia, General Lando, Gam. Guard, possibly Hoth Vader, Bib Fortuna, and the Jawas).  Some are still coming up, but still, it is strange to see this "limiting" again, and I feel bad for those of you who have cases ordered of these figures and were counting on them.

I've just gotten home from a road trip from NE Ohio to Maine (by way of Boston) and back, making a few WalMart/Target stops along the way...and the only conclusion I can make is that New England is as ruled by Dagobah waves as the Midwest.

I CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIND THE BESPIN WAVES!!

Well, okay, that's not entirely true...I did in fact find a Wal*Mart in Scranton PA that had three Lobots warming the pegs (and nothing else, no Aaylas, no Hoth Troopers), and I relieved them of one of him.

And my fiance' had the good luck to pick me up a nice Spirit Obi and Bespin Luke (as well as an OTC Yoda that has the most spot-on paint app I've ever seen. Museum quality!) the other day, so I can't complain too much, I've gotten just about everything I've been looking for...

Just out of curiosity, for those of you who have found the Yoda/Vader/Luke VOTC waves (usually at TRU from what I've seen), have you seen them again since then?  I was just curious...a week ago I found Yoda and Luke, but obviously missed the Vader, and was wondering if they will be out again soon, or if we have to wait for another shipment.  At the time, I was told they got two "boxes" that day...I last checked there on Wednesday I think, and all they had were Hans.  No big deal, just curious how they were shipping if anyone knew.

Mosnab, I've seen that wave show up once and once only here as well. It was at a TRU, they seemed to have one case and that was that.

I'd assume they're in the pike for other stores, but I couldn't put a guess on when. Seems like everyone is still putting out those first couple cases of stuff. I hope the retailers didn't blow it again by ordering enough of the first few waves to fill their own warehouses till Christmas. It's happened before...

Remember back at the height of Saga when Hasbro was aggressively marketing these things but the shelves were crammed with the first couple cases of figures? Remember drop shipments arriving at every KB in the country on the same day of the newest waves? Hopefully they'll be ready to take care of us again, clearing the VOTC that don't move to make way for new waves. Maybe we'll see special Obi-Wan/Han Solo two-packs offered for six bucks someday...

Congrats on the find, Brian.   :)

As for the case assortment debacle with Hasbro, it looks like NewForce is getting shafted by Hasbro big time as well.

They got only 50% allocation of their wave 1.5 order, they never got wave 1, and they are just now recieving a small portion of their wave 2 orders despite the fact that the big brick and mortar boys are now getting wave 2.5 into the stores.

Hasbro is really screwing the e-tailers over big time with the OTC.  I'm starting to wonder what the cause is...

Are the big boys (Target, Wally, TRU) ordering up more than usualy numbers of product to support the DVDs OR did Hasbro really cut back the overall production numbers on this line?

My local SoCal TRU finally had the ESB VOTC case this afternoon. It has a breakdown of one each of the 8 total ANH and ESB.

The joke? They had exactly 1 case, which was promptly freed of its ESB contents by my happy ass.

Things are hopefully looking up for new product there, though mine is still clogged with Saga junk that doesn't look to be going anywhere with a week left until DVD-day.

I spent the last two days combing the area to a depth I've avoided for a long while. But they were beautiful days, so why not enjoy the road and some new figures to boot?!

Dagobah wave is really starting to clog up the local Wal*Marts, hopefully the DVDs will coax some more of those out. They had been dead for nearly a year, until August when they actually received some new OTC--I found my Bespin Luke there (much to my surprise.) Now they're overloaded with Yodas, Swamp R2s, Hans, Pilot Lukes, and Spirit Obi-Wans. Not to mention the display shelves full of ANH VOTCs. Oh well, guess I'll check back with them next August...

TRU was where I origianlly found my Luke and Vader VOTCs, but other than that one time they're just crammed with Saga stuff from late 2002. Oh, and OTC Buddies... ::)

KMart has been the only local place I've seen a hint of the Bespin Wave. I finally found a Bespin Leia there today, if I could just find one more CCPilot I'd be a happy man.

Target seems to be the happening place in my area. Not only did I actually find all 8 VOTCs there (at the same time--in multiples!!), but they also had the newest OTCs, including my beloved Jawas! A nice set, indeed, as far as repaints of old figures go, and some of my favorite figures ever anyway. Also picked up a TIE Pilot, since I never saw the Saga version on the shelf around here.

Based on all the great things I've read I picked up a Lando. Threepio I left behind, his head is simply weird-looking to the point of distraction. That brings my VOTC tally up to five-of-eight...actually a couple more than I thought it'd be, so I guess they're a surprise hit at my house.

So not a bad couple of days. Five new figures to show for it, and I'm really done hunting until the OTC Generals show up (which I've yet to see in their Saga versions).

Went to Wally World this morning to pick up the DVD ($38.88 at this particular store, by the way), and decided to pick up one of the "DVD Commemorative Sets" as well.  I know they are all rehashes, but I got the ESB one because I enjoy all things Han and Chewie.  They had the other two sets as well, and they were ringing up $9.88, which I guess isn't too bad of a price really for 3 (or 4 for ANH) figures.

Yeah, I went out bright and early this morning (on my day off, no less) hoping that the DVD release would bring out the best in the toy aisles... and here's what I found:

TRU #1: OTC Luke Dagobah, Han, VOTC Han
Target #1: OTC Han, VOTC Han, Ben
Target #2: OTC Han, VOTC Han, Ben
Wal-Mart: No OTC, VOTC Han, DVD Box sets (which I ended up buying just 'cause I was so mad I didn't find anything else anywhere)
TRU #2: OTC Han, VOTC Han, Ben
Target #3: OTC Han, Luke Dagobah, Yoda, VOTC Han, Luke
TRU #3: OTC Han, Luke Dagobah, No VOTC (not even Han!!)

I spent wasted a good 4 hours of my life - not to mention almost an entire tank of gas (which cost me $28 to fill up yesterday) and got absolutely squat for my troubles.  >:(

Nabbed a VOTC Yoda and Lando, finally, last night...  Great figures, both, but...

Yoda's "wrong".  His belt should go over his outter coat, and had Hasbro gotten that right instead of screwing it up, they'd actually have made the coat much less puffy.  Go figure...

So I am seeing what I can do about fixing that snaffu.

Lando's waist on mine is wobbly which I'm reading is a common problem.  I'd say his thighs could've used a SLIGHT spacing apart as well.  Makes him a little more difficult to "pose" certain running ways and stuff.  Overall though Lando's a winner.

Hell I think Yoda's a winner too.  he's neat, even if puffy.  A vintage Yoda coat on him may fix all his problems though.

Finally found most of the Bespin wave today (missing CC Pilot) and Spirit Obi-Wan.  Still need Dagabah Luke, and the re-carded Endor wave to catch up.  Slowly but surely.

I can send a Dagobah Luke with your Phoenix if you like.  Regular version on the hideously useless Canadian card.

Stopped in at a Target across town from us this weekend before going to church, and was fortunate enough to find a VOTC Stormtrooper and R2-D2.  They had 1 of each, as well as 1 Han and 1 Lando on the pegs...so I must have just missed Chewie and Boba Fett.  I was really hoping to find the wookiee, but hopefully this wave will continue to pop up.  Also stopped at Wal-Mart and finally found the Bespin Luke repaint, so picked that up as well.  I was happy with the weekend haul.

On Sunday morning, I found the VOTC ROTJ wave at Target.  I picked up Chewie, Fett, Lando, and 1 Stormtrooper.  I would've picked up another Stormtrooper had the paint jobs not been so piss-poor.  As luck would have it, I found the ROTJ wave again this morning at yet another Target and snagged another Stormie.  I'm pretty happy.   :D

My wife, not so much.   :-[

I too have ROTJ VOTC purchases under my belt this week...  Today actually, I snagged VOTC Stormie and Fett.  The paint on the Stormie is sloppy, which is funny given everything, and I don't like the holster...  It's "ok" but sort of a half-assed attempt.

Beyond that, Fett's neck is odd...  He's still, hands down, the best Fett ever.  The right custom work and you could have a great removable helmet one that looks flawless to boot.

Irregardless, Target's the place to be, and they're awesome figures so be there.

I got a 2nd Vader too...  May grab more because, while not perfect, he's damn close and I think I can really finegal a nicely done custom out of him...

Great stuff!

I totally agree with you about the holster.  It's lame.  And the paint job problem is really unforgivable.  I mean, how hard is it to apply a few black paint apps to an all-white figure?

Scroobaca (from RS) posted a pic of an incredible-looking 'ESB' Fett which used the VOTC Fett body.  Awesome.  I still have a few grudges with the figure, mainly with his brick-shaped wrist gadgets (particularly his left wrist gadget).  His neck is odd and the helmet antenna is too short.  His outfit is a bit too washed out and could use more blue in it.  However, the sculpt is top-notch.

Yeah, Target is the place to be.  The ROTJ wave is by far my favorite VOTC assortment.

How quickly things can changes when EE actually gets stuff in!

It's been a hard couple of weeks finding stuff, and my only major score was the ROTJ VOTCs from a TRU by asking the manager to pull a case. I haven't seen a single new OTC card for what seems like forever. The last one I bought at retail was Greedo a month or more ago.

So today was pretty cool to be able to get the wave 11.5 OTC, wave 2 post-OTC case, and a ROTJ VOTC case from EE. In one trip it rounded out the carded OTC collection for my, and got me a second R2 and Chewie to complete the VOTC line. I feel a sense of calm like I haven't felt in a long while, like wrapping up this years stuff is actually going to happen.

The big problem is all those figures in that last OTC case... I mean, there's 10 "new" figures in the case of 12. Only 2 figures that aren't fresh in there are army builders - a Tusken and a Biker Scout. It's still going to be a challenge now to track down all the repaints in the wave I consider open-able - the Gamorrean Guard, Hoth Vader, Scanning Crew Tech, and even Bib Fortuna seem worth opening. And they're all 1 per case.

Scoobacca's customs are awesome.  He was one of the first people I can think of who got a VOTC Fett and the guy seemed to customize it almost immediately.  THat's dedication to the hobby.  :)

If anyone's still on the lookout, Amazon.com had the ROTJ wave (as well as the rest of the figs) in stock at one point this morning.  They may be sold out by now, but I did check early enough to get a Chewie ordered...hooray :).  I wanted to get two, but the wifey wasn't having it, so I'll just try my luck at retail with getting a second.  Anyways, if you go quickly, I see that Boba Fett, Chewbacca, and the Stormie are all still in stock.  R2-D2 is currently out of stock.  Just thought I'd give the heads up.

Also, on a side note, used the DCPI # at a Target yesterday and picked the Slave 1 ship up for $25.49.  I was pretty happy to be able to get it, I've never had a "Boba" Slave 1, and I think the ship looks pretty good overall.  Kind of nice packaging as well (although mine is kind of dinged up), tempted to leave it in there, but I think I'll be cracking it open before too long.  Also, checked for VOTC at both stores.  None on the floor, none in the stockroom at either Target here in town.  One of the stores was also offering either rain checks, or alternate figures (Animated Batman at this particular store) for a reduced price.  I'm guessing they won't be getting any anytime soon.

About the Slave 1 set, you might wanna eyeball the
tape jobs on the box before you make a decision.
The 'QuestionMark' over on Scum is reporting that some
boxes are showing evidence of a tape-cut and tape-over
on these pups.  They report that Target went in and
nipped out Boba's firing missle on some (all?) boxes.

ALL of the Boba Fett figures from the Slave 1 from Target are missing the small sidearm AND the rocket.  Not a single one has been found with them.

Target is NOT the one who removed them.  Hasbro did not include the smaller gun on purpose and then Hasbro removed the rocket before they were shipped to Target.  No one is sure why yet, but the assumption is that it was due to some safety standard or cost.

I can assure you that Target did not take out the missile themselves.

Well, as the majority of the OTC/VOTC line is now making its way through the retail system (or hopefully should be shortly), how is everyone sitting with what they have bought, and what they have left to buy?  Are you getting close to caught up, half way there, or not even close?

I recently placed an order for a VOTC Boba Fett and Chewbacca via Amazon.com.  Once those arrive, I will have the whole line.  To be honest, one of the more satisfying "completions" I've had for awhile, just happy to get this whole line.  I was really concerned about Chewbacca, but luckily he turned up online.  I'd still like to get an extra Chewie to keep carded though, but I'll try my luck at retail for that one...for now.

For the OTC basic line, we still haven't seen the last figures around here.  I was kind of hoping to pick up (if I see them at retail) the Gam. Guard, General Lando, Slave Leia, Hoth Vader, and possibly Bib Fortuna.  The first two especially, the others...if I see them.  Just picked up the Slave I at Target, using the DCPI #, earlier this week...so until that Falcon (hopefully) gets clearanced at Target later on this year, I'm at a stopping point on vehicles (still on the fence about the Sandcrawler though too).

All in all, probably the most caught up I have been in awhile, once those last couple figures get here.  Basically on the look out for a few OTC figures, the Bounty Hunter Galactic Heroes sets, and the "2005" waves if they show up at retail early as well.  Also, the next assortment of Unleashed, if those hit this year (Stormie and IG-88).  Kind of a good feeling to not have quite as much stuff to search for, and especially happy to be completing the VOTC line.  A very nice line overall, and something I hope we see Hasbro do more of in the future (the sculpt/articulation, not the price).  Hope that everyone is doing well in their searches/collections, best of luck.

Stopped in the toy aisle at Wal-Mart yesterday while getting some groceries, and they had restocked their OTC.  The pegs were jammed full, but basically consisted of 4-5 figures.  I did find the Endor Generals wave (never saw it during Saga), and picked up Lando.  They had a number of each of these, as well as two full pegs of Bespin Leia.  Also a couple rehash Hans, 3POs, and at least 1 (or more) of each of the Lukes (Dagobah, X-Wing, and Jedi).

I can't say I need a LOT, but what I need I'm a bit concerned over...  More than I have been in a while, and likely because it's some of the highest quality product Hasbro has ever put out...

For the VOTC I still need 2 CHewie's, my 3PO, R2, and 3 Stormtroopers...  Then I'll be at my set goal.

For OTC I need a Gam Guard, Madines, and I'd take Han AT-ST's if I could find them as well as an extra Lando.  I've never seen that wave, in any incarnation, at a store so far.  Only gotten them via trades or through friends and on the Saga cards.  My Madine broke while reviewing it so I'm desperate to replace him...

Beyond that then, I'd be "caught up" and would buy more VOTC STormies if I saw them and had the extra $ I was sure.  Then it's onto the Transition figures.

I found a Madine at my Wal*Mart today as well, and that completes my OTC collection. I wound up with:

I actually had a lot of fun with finding these "waves," though the Bespin figures were real hard to find this summer, and I still haven't seen all the stuff from the last case assortment (with the scanning tech, gam guard, etc).

And for VOTC:

I finished them last week and continue to see ROTJ figures popping up. Looks like the ESB figures are going to be the tough finds.

It's nice to feel "done" for the year...and I honestly don't know how long I'll feel that way. I'm just not as excited about the rest of the stuff this year, including those Cantina figures. Sure, they're well made, but they were all about dead last in my list of wants. Really, I'm just looking for a Hem Dazon (and a single carded Muftak) to finish my Cantina wants. If I run into them at the store, I'll probably get 'em, but I won't be out searching.

Gotta love day trips for work.  Stopped at a Kmart and picked up a couple of Cloud Car pilots and the on sale Cantina set #1 (passed on the second one, really can't warrant the purchase).  They also had one each of the BH Playskool sets.  I'm passing on these for now, but will pick them up eventually.

Then stopped at a TRU, not expecting much, but they did had one each of VOTC Boba and Stormtrooper, which I immediately grabbed.  I think I missed Chewie and R2 by literally a minute, as I saw someone walking out with an armful of SW toys.  Also picked up a recarded Stormtrooper - can't have too many of those - and saw remnants of ML wave VII (Iron Man and Weapon X), which I passed on, really only want GR, Apoc, Hawkeye and Vision of that wave.

All in all, not too shabby - I get away from the office during the morning and then hit a semi jackpot.

I'm finally caught up with the OTC (the figures I wanted from it) and thus caught up on all basic figures until the Prequel wave hits.  I found General Lando and Madine at a Target early this week, then Thursday night I read on scum that the walmart by my house had that wave as of 5 minutes to closing time. So after work friday morning, I stopped by and sure enough there they were and I scored the AT-ST Han to round out the OTC. Now I just need to find the elusive C-3PO to round out the VOTC. Anyone know when the Prequel Senate/Padme wave is coming out?

Just completed my VOTC set with Chewie and R2.  Suprisingly, the Target I frequent the most had plenty along with the Bespin, Imperial Trooper OTC wave after being completed void of anything worthwhile recently.  For now I'm caught up on completely new figs and the only thing I want to pick up are the repainted Jawas.  Waiting for the Naboo / Coruscant wave.

This Target also had a new stock of Playskool 2 packs.  Picked up the stormtrooper set and Chewie / R2.  These were the first sets I bought (2 pack anyway, have the older sets minus the Falcon) and will now probably sporadically pick up the other ones.

So how is everyone sitting on their "lists" for the year?  Are you about caught up in the VOTC/OTC areas, or are there a few more to go?  Things have hit a bit of a standstill around here.  The two Targets and Wal-Mart that I have most recently visited are all packed to the gills with OTC Generals and Bespin Leia.  A few other figures here and there, but all older OTC ones.  I have pretty much what I want from the OTC line, but I'd still like to for sure pick up a Gamorrean Guard (which hasn't yet shown here), and possibly figures like Bib Fortuna and Slave Leia (just because I don't have them in my collection in modern form...other than the Leia glass set), and maybe the Hoth Vader (I'll decide when I see him).

VOTC has been pretty dry here for awhile.  Basically nothing but the ANH figures sitting everywhere, although I will admit that surprisingly the stock seems to get lower and lower every couple weeks.  They are still hanging for quite awhile, but its slowly getting better.  Targets have absolutely no VOTC on the shelves, but the ANH wave is hanging at Wal-Mart and TRU.  I originally had hoped to get doubles of each, one to keep carded, one loose, but as the price started to hit me more, I abandoned that plan.  I have an extra Han, and would like to get an extra Chewie if I happen across one, but that is about it.

Overall, I'm basically going to be keeping an eye out for the OTC Gamorrean Guard, Bib Fortuna, Jawas, Slave Leia, and Hoth Vader, and possibly another VOTC Chewie.  It is nice to see the end of things, and probably have a little break unless the 2005 figures start showing up at retail.  Other than that, its just catching up on the Galactic Heroes and any new Unleashed that show up the rest of the year.  So, what are you still looking for?  Are you about done with the "OTC"?

Finished off almost everything for this year.  Spent a buttload of money though in the last week.  Completed my OTC about a month ago and began picking up multiples this past week or so.  Picked up:

OTC Y-Wing
OTC Gam Guard
OTC Vader Hoth
OTC Bib Fortuna
OTC Imperial Trooper
OTC Han AT-ST
OTC Jawas x2
OTC Tusken Raiders x2
OTC Stormtroopers x2
4 more VOTC Stormtroopers
VOTC C-3PO
Sandcrawler
Cantina Bar 2
All 11 Playskook 2-packs
OTC Millennium Falcon
2 Silver Vaders

This doesnt include all the money I wasted on ebay in the last week (Theater Luke, Cinema Scenes (5), Exclusives (4), about 25 carded POTF2 figs)

Still need Target Slave 1 and the Naboo 4-pack. If anyone can help me out with the Slave 1 drop me an email.   Also the last wave of Star Tours figs if they ever get released.  Got my first wave of the  2005 case and have the cantina wave on order with EE, so should be seeing them by years end.  Thank the maker for Bonuses here at work.

Here's the stuff that is still on my "needs" list that I will probably find in 2004:

* 2005 Cantina Wave (due Nov. from EE)
* OTC-38 Imperial Trooper (x2)
* TRU Jedi Scene 3 and 4

That's about it.  I have caught up with my vOTC and I only need the Scan trooper for OTC.  I managed to find all the other stuff that I wanted, but I did pass on a lot of stuff this year thanks to all the re-hashes (Y-Wing, Vader's TIE, OTC re-hash TIE and X-Wing and more).

I guess I do have some other stuff I am tracking on the needs list, but these items probably won't show up before the end of the year:

* GH Tatooine Wave (Jedi Luke/Gam Guard, Skiff Lando/Nikto, Jawa/Tusken)
* Target Figure w/Cup Wave 2 (Han, Yoda, Fett)
* Star Tours Wave 4

I doubt that stuff will hit before Christmas though...

Welp,

Today at the local get-together (at Bobafett14's house), I was able to score a VOTC R2 and 3PO from the infamous "Blue_Harvester", Dave.

He helped me pretty much clear up my VOTC wants other than Chewie who is supposedly in route to my house as we speak...

Beyond that now, I'll only need "extras" of certain VOTC...  Maybe one more Fett, another Chewie, and any Stormtrooper I can get ahold of that I feel I've got $10 to blow away on another Stormtrooper.

OTC I need the Gam Guard only really...  I could live without the Scanner tech, though if I saw one I'd maybe nab him just for the "variation" in him.

The Gam Guard's eluded me though.   :-\

Beyond that then, I'll need OTC Transition figures like the Cantina wave, the Naboo figures, and the Coruscant figures.  Then I'll be 100% set till (I guess) E3 product...  Unless there's surprise stuff coming.

It depends where you are. Some areas have these everywhere, as well as Gam. Guards, Bib, Jawas, Tuskens, and Scanning Crew members.

Darby and I have a massive glut of earlier waves at Wal-Mart, and not a goddamn thing at any other store. It really does suck here.

I was able to fill out most of what I was looking for from the OTC line this weekend.  Stopped by Target, and they had the later figures (not the Scanning Trooper though).  I picked up a Gammorrean Guard (last one), a Bib (just because I don't have a modern one), and the Hoth Vader.  Had the Slave Leia in the basket too, because the only one I have is the glass set one, but ended up putting it back.  Decided since I already technically "had" the figure, I didn't need to buy this version.  They had two vOTC on the pegs at this particular Target, 1 Obi Wan, and (surprisingly) 1 Boba Fett.  Still no Slave 1's out on the floor there, although that is where I got mine (via the DCPI#) a month ago.

Finished what I needed when I picked up the Jawas Friday night at a TRU.  Also picked up a VOTC stormtrooper to open.  Now I just have to wait until the transition Naboo and Cantina figures hit.  In the meantime, I think I'll finish my GH Playskool collection and hopefully find some ML VII figures.

Our local Wal-Mart has apparently had a toy explosion now.  All their toy lines are pretty much stocked full (except for LOTR, which still only has 5-6 figures, but anyways).  I couldn't believe all of the VOTC they had there yesterday.  We stopped off for some groceries, so I decided to take a stroll through the action figure aisle.  The OTC and VOTC pegs were both overflowing, and with the VOTC there were so many that they had to stack them up on the shelves below.  I saw at least 3-5 of every VOTC figure, with the exception of Chewie, R2, and 3PO...of which I saw none.  I talked the Mrs. into letting me pick up another stormtrooper.  I was so tempted to get more, just seeing all of those in person.  Man, I wish these were only $5-$6 each :).

I completed my VOTC at the local meeting in Pittsburgh here last weekend, so now I just need my extras (Stormies), maybe an extra Fett and Chewie, and then I'm 100% done on VOTC.

Then I need a Gam Guard, Scanner tech, and if I ran into one and felt it was worthy I'd ponder getting a Bib, but probably not.

Then, onto the post OTC....

It feels good not being WAY far behind like I had been for a while.

Still need Bib, G. Guard, both upcoming Vaders, Jawas, Snowtrooper, Tusken Raider, Lando Skiff, Slave Leia, Leia (OTC #9), and a two or three Scanning Crew Members. Then the Post-OTC swag.

The case I ordered from EE of Jedi wave vintage figs shipped yesterday, and I think I might have and extra Fett or R2 to unload. I haven't decided on that though.

My local Walmart had all 12 VOTC's on the shelf this AM.  It was not only odd seeing them all, especially 3PO but a thing of beauty.  Left them all for some lucky sap.  Although I was tempted to snag a few more Stormies.  I've cut myself off at 12 which was overkill already.

I actually found the OTC Y-Wing today. This is really odd since most exclusive merchandise gets bought up before it sees the sales floor in this area.

And, I almost bought Sly Moore today. I say almost, because even though the nameplate said Sly Moore, and the back of the card showed[/i] Sly Moore, there was a Saga Taun We figure inside the package. Some nice fellow collector must have bought Sly Moore, took it home, and then ripped it open and replaced the figure with an extra Taun We that he/she had at home. Then return it for a refund and you end up with a free figure. It's a shame that the employees at Toys R Us either:

A) Don't know any better
B) Don't really care about things like this
C) Help out there friends by taking stuff like this back
-or-
D) Do this themselves

Nice to hear the Post-OTC waves are starting to hit at retail, I'll have to keep my eyes out for those.  Checking the stores this weekend, and both Target and Wal-Mart seems to have gotten some more cases in of the OTC and VOTC.  I really wish these were closer to $6 or $7, because I saw several Stormtroopers this weekend, and was quite tempted to pick up a few more.  I did get one more, but couldn't "army build" at $9-10 a pop.  Anyways, it is nice to see more of these on the pegs.  Surprisingly, the ANH figures are starting to dry up a bit, but this weekend I saw lots of Lando, Vader, Yoda, as well as the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett (at Wal-Mart).  Still have never seen a Chewie at retail, and haven't seen 3PO or R2 since the first time I spotted them.  Both Target and Wal-Mart seem to be overflowing with the OTC Endor Generals/Bespin Leia assortment, but I've also seen the Gam. Guards/Fortuna here and there now too.  No sign of the Scanning Trooper, but I can live without it.  TRU and KB toys have nothing but Saga figures now as far as basic figures go, but TRU does have the ANH VOTC hanging out still.  Oh, and I did see some Y-Wings there too.

Here's the stuff that is still on my "needs" list that I will probably find in 2004:
* 2005 Cantina Wave (due Nov. from EE)
* OTC-38 Imperial Trooper (x2)
* TRU Jedi Scene 3 and 4

Well, I just nabbed the TRU Jedi Scenes 3 & 4 off Amazon.com (threw in a vOTC figure to get to $49 and qualify for free shipping) and I'll be getting some help tonight and picking up the Imperial Scanning Troopers I need (thanks Scott and Matt!  :-*), so I guess I'm done shopping until next year.  I just need to sit back and wait for EE to ship me my Cantina wave figures and I'm set.  :)

It'll be real nice if I can avoid the toy stores during the Holiday shopping season.  Those Pre-Christmas TRUs are packed with vile "no manners, me first" type of shoppers.  Ick. Somehow, TRU has 50 times the traffic during the Holidays as they do the rest of the year, but still manage to open only 3 check-out stands...  ::)

Of course, watch, now something else from 2005 will slip into the Holiday shopping season and wreck my whole plan...   :-\

Made a couple of stops this weekend at Target/Wal-Mart, so decided to stop by the action figure aisles to see if there was anything new.  Not really looking for much outside of the Post OTC waves (which haven't shown yet), but I do always like to see what is out there.  At Target, interestingly enough, they seemed to have restocked (pegs packed to the brim) with Saga 2004 figures....R-3POs, Hoth Troopers, Bar2-D2, Skiff Lando, etc.  They had one lone OTC figure hanging on the pegs, which happened to be General Madine.  The other Target hadn't done this (restocked with Saga stuff), but had a fairly decent supply of OTC figures.  Several Gam. Guards, Fortunas, Slave Leias, and a few others.  Both stores had a handful of VOTC figures, and I have now seen every figure on the line...aside from Chewbacca and C-3PO...on multiple occasions now.  One Target and also one Wal-Mart have had Fetts, Vaders, and Stormtroopers sitting for awhile now, which is surprising to me.  If I had more extra cash I'd be picking up a few more...specifically the Stormies.  Vader voice changer thingy has also shown up at the Targets.  Strangely enough, still no Slave 1's on the shelves.  At one Target, I got it a couple months back via the DCPI#, but they still haven't actually put them out on the floor.  The other one (which doesn't have the nifty DCPI scanners) had them out one time when I went there, but they have since disappeared.  It is possible that they sold out, but they had several, so I guess I'd be a little bit surprised.  Otherwise, more of the same on the pegs around here.  Not overly enthused to see the return of Saga figures to Target (and also our TRU...all they have is Saga stuff now).

Stopped in at TRU last night, and found the POTC Padme, Rabe, Sly, Yarua, and Pablo.....all for $6.99 each.  I'm really not digging this price increase....$6 I could stand, but $7 is starting to make me choosy.  With it being a week before Christmas, that influenced the spending as well.  All that said, I picked up Yarua and Pablo Jill, the two that I really wanted from these two waves anyways.  The others were tempting too, and I might go back and see if they are still there in a few days, we'll see.  Couldn't pass up a wookiee and alien Jedi though :).  Aside from these figures, TRU had basically nothing but tons and tons of older Saga figures.  They also had quite a few Unleashed, but nothing "new", just Chewie, Hoth Luke, Clonetrooper, Sidious, and Jedi Luke.  I was hoping to find the repackaged Vader, but no luck.  Oh, also zero VOTC here...didn't even look like they had a spot for them anymore.  I've got what I want (except maybe for some extra Stormies), but its too bad we're seeing the end of this line.

Also made a stop at Wal-Mart, and they seem pretty clogged up with the same old stuff for awhile.  Quite a bit of the basic OTC figs, consisting mainly of the Endor Generals, Bespin Leia, IG-88, Bespin Luke, etc.  Same ole VOTC, but they have sold some over the past few weeks.  Only a handful hanging on the pegs, mostly Leias and Obis.  Surprisingly now, I don't know if there is a single VOTC Han hanging anywhere anymore.  Also a big ole stack of the 12" figures, and some lightsabers and older Unleashed.  Oh, and they have the Vader voice changer thingy now too.  Anyways, I was quite happy to find something new, just basically on the lookout for the Cantina figs now until Animated/ROTS Preview stuff starts to hit.

You're forgetting Worrororororororororororor though...  No love for the EU Wookie? :)  Too bad he's short now...  I'm half-tempted to whip a Worororrororororororor figure up out of either Yarua and a cast of Worrorororororororororr's head or a VOTC Chewie...  I dunno.

The figure never looked like the character in the RPG other than the headsculpt.  He didn't sport the bandoleir like Chewie.

Checked out the Wal-Mart toy section yesterday (which was in shambles and packed with Christmas shoppers by the way), and basically had the "same ole".  Lots of OTC figures, mainly consisting of the Endor Generals, Bespin Leia, and IG-88 from what I could see....but I didn't look through them all.  Basically just scan the pegs for the Cantina figs, then move on :).  As for VOTC, they had 1 Yoda, 1 Leia, and about 6 Landos.  I was able to pick up the repacked Unleashed Vader, which I was pretty happy about.  They had an entire endcap filled with the Vader/Dooku/Mace wave, as well as having some Hoth Lukes, Bossk, and Tusken Raiders hanging out in the actual Star Wars section.  Very happy to find the Vader though, especially since I missed it the first time around.

Stopped at TRU as well, and it was somewhat barren.  They had absolutely 0 OTC or VOTC figs, with their basic pegs being filled with old Saga stuff.  Some of it really old, like AOTC figures (Dexter Jettster, Zam, Geonosian Warrior, and Achk Med-Beq).  They also seemed to have gotten a new shipment of those buddies in, and had several Galactic Heroes X-Wings on the shelf, as well as OTC Falcons.  There was a lone Jedi Force figure (X-Wing Luke), as well as the same Unleashed they have had for awhile now (Palpatine, Chewie, Hoth Luke, Tusken, Bossk, Jedi Luke).

I nabbed a VOTC Yoda and Lando for $7 each, and a repack ANH Vader and Gam. Guard on the OTC cards for $3 each...  Judging by the receipt I don't think I was charged for the Gam Guard too either...  I'm not gonna stress on it.

Would love to find (actually) a Luke and Ben VOTC...  Maybe a leia.  I could use all 3 for customizing.   And of course I could use finding the OTC's I didn't get just to ease the pain of having a complete set by getting them for cheap...  Namely I'd like the Scanner tech (though Ic an't stand him) because of his head's paintjob being so much better.

I felt lucky to nab a Gam Guard, especially because they JUST showed up here in my neck of the woods.  A few of the OTC paintjob are now in my posession, and mix nicely with the POTF2 version.  They look very cool.

I scored a Han AT-ST Driver and Cloud Car Pilot for $3 from Wal-Mart. Unfortunately the only other clearance figs they had were Lobot, Bespin Leia, and VOTC Lando, nothing good for customizing.

I also picked up the entire Prequel Post-OTC wave and now feel violated after paying $6.99 each at Target. And it sickens me because 2 of the figures are barely worth $5 (Amidala and Sly Moore) and a 3rd isn't even worth $3 (Rabe). With the VOTC we got all this uber articulation for $10 figs, so for $3 less we get jack ****? Damn the retailers and Hasbro! I'll get my revenge when stores have to clearance out the ROTS line during the summer!

Good fodder scores Jason.  My purchases tonight were:

1 Ozzel for $3
1 Lando Skiff (Saga) for $3
1 Gold Leader for $3
4 VOTC Stormtroopers for $7 each
1 VOTC Vader for $7

I got a couple more WM's and Targets to hit up possibly tomorrow.  Word is some have Scanner techs, which I want ONE (Figure still sucks) just because the paintjob's so vastly superior on it.

Lotta stores are bare-to-the-bone empty though now.  Especially Target and TRU who seemingly have nothing, though I have to admit I haven't been in many TRU's lately.

Maybe it's just where I'm going that sucks?  Where I went tonight is an odd jaunt for me because it's not my usual haunt, but I was in the city so I made this run.  Glad I did and that my friends didn't wanna meet us out tonight or I never would've even gone up there.

Figured I'd get some custom fodder while I had the $ and it was available.  In my neck of the woods, the ANH wave is only at select Wal-Marts while others are bare bones dry of VOTC or have some ESB leavins.  The WM I went to tonight is a lower traffic one, but any of the busy ones are darn near empty of figures at all.

Our local Wal-Mart is the same way, no Star Wars on the pegs at all...well, aside from Unleashed figures which have their own endcap.  Actually that whole end of the action figure aisle (which usually houses lines like Marvel Legends, Spidey movie, Lord of the Rings, Justice League, and Star Wars) is pretty well empty.  There are some older LOTR Trilogy figs, as well as some Armies of Middle Earth packs, but the aisle is about empty otherwise.  Only Star Wars figs out in the store are in the clearance aisle, and it isn't much good.  All this one had for VOTC was Leia and Lando (and on a side note, Lando is really the only one hanging around town anywhere now, the rest of the VOTC are gone), some OTC figs on clearance for $3, but all they have are General Landos, Bespin Leias, and a few Madines.  I guess it is good to see the old getting cleared out now though, hopefully that means new figures will be restocked.  Target was doing the same last I was there, for like $3.50 a fig I think.

Stopped by our local TRU yesterday too, and they have nothing but old Saga blue card figures.  Amazingly high amounts of them too, which is a bit scary.  They need to have a clearance on those things.  Nothing OTC related really, other than a few Jedi Council sets, the Naboo and Endor packs, 1 Vader talkie helmet, and a TON of Falcons.  I always wanted one of those Falcons, but since I already have the POTF2 one I was waiting for a real nice clearance at either TRU or Target.  Hopefully that will happen.  Oh...and still no ML or LOTR at this TRU.

Last I saw they were around $35 here (clearanced as well at Target), which I guess is a good price.  I guess I'm getting a little greedy with the clearance price, especially since I'm not sure if I can justify it (space wise especially) already having the other version.  Thanks for the tip though Mikey. :)

You can always try and wait to see if they drop again in price, but then you run the risk of them selling out before another price drop happens.  Happened to me on the Lego UCS X-wing.  Didn't pick it up when it was $75 (over 1/2 off) and the few they had at that price went quick.   :(

I did the same with the Lego Tie Interceptor.  Got down to half price, but I got greedy because I picked up the UCS Yoda at 75% off.  Also fell asleep on the Y-wing/Tie that sold out at just 25% off. :-\

Do you guys think we have seen the last FRESH shipments of VOTC?  I have not seen VOTC in stores since right before Christmas.  Except the 2 or 3 Obi_Wans at Wal Mart and NONE at any of the Targets....I was just wondering if the good stuff was finally gone...
Title: Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
Post by: Jesse James on January 7, 2005, 06:59 PM
I think it's pretty safe bet Paul.  I think what we saw even leading into Christmas (Like the beginning of Dec. at least) was NOT new product, but rather old stuff just working its  way through WM's systems.

Target's been dead for VOTC in my neck of the woods since about mid-december.   TRU just never was the happening place for it.  WM screwed themselves by clogging pegs with ANH wave about 2 months after K-Mart and Target had already done sales on those figures and were moving into ESB.

I finally tracked down an '05 recard Dagobah Luke this week at Target on my drive out to Vegas. Targets seem to be good on the Canita wave as far as I could tell. I also had the chance to be annoyed at myself for paying full price on an OTC Falcon, to finally see it on clearance for $24. Other than that, it's been bleak on new finds since, oh, weeks before Christmas.

Walmarts from here to Vegas didn't have jack.  :-\  $3 Cloud Car Pilots and ATST Hans for army building, and that's it.

The last real sighting of new goods at TRU was in December, when the stores around here finally seemed to get a good push of VOTC, mainly repack cases with every figure in it but the Stormtrooper. For a week or two, TRU looked with VOTC how you'd imagine they were supposed to look for the months of September through Decemeber. You could even find a Vader in the checkout line displays. Now, they have nothing but an occasional Obi, and lots of Saga. God, I hate TRU.

A local Kmart here reset for the year and already has EP3 Preview figure pegs up... 12 pegs worth of space, and 6 pegs for Clone Wars Animated. So maybe soon they'll be back in the game.

My past three trips to TRU I've seen more R2, Chewbacca and C-3PO then I ever saw. Three figures I couldn't find anywhere when I wanted/needed them. As a matter of fact, that was the first time I ever saw C-3PO at retail (since I picked my two up here at JD), and now I've seen him three times since.

Yikes.  It hurts to hear that - I paid $90 CDN for my Falcon ($73 US) at TRU.  And they're still that price today, and with about 20 of them on the shelves at one TRU.  I almost don't want to see them go on clearance, knowing what I paid.

Found Trevagg and Myo at Wal-Mart this weekend.  Done with the cantina wave now.
Title: Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases

The Star Wars section at Wal-Mart remains empty right now, with the only figs in the store being in the clearance aisles (Gen. Lando, Lobot, Madine, Bespin Leia for $3).  We did pick up the Jedi Force X-Wing (along with Luke and the Droids) for our nephew for his third birthday...gave them to him yesterday, and he loved them.  The Luke seemed to be his favorite gift, glad he was happy with them.

Also, Target has clearances going as well.  A little bit of the early POTC figs (Padme, Sly) here and there, but otherwise pretty bare pegs there as well.  The aisles have been revamped, so there are plenty o' pegs for Star Wars now, just nothing on them.  Did find the OTC Falcon clearanced for $25, and had it in the cart, but ended up putting it back.  I want it, but really don't have the room for it.  If it is still there the next time we go, I might be tempted.  Otherwise, not much new around these parts, still looking for the new animated figs and the Cantina wave.  Oh, also, VOTC figures are totally gone around here now.

Yeah, we have 2 Wal-Marts in my area.  One had the $3 clearence items to and they "disappeared".   In their place were new figures.  The other Wal-Mart is stacked with the Endor wave for now until the end of time I fear.

Stopped in at TRU yesterday just on the odd chance they might have some new Star Wars (Cantina Wave) or perhaps Marvel Legends.  Checking out the Star Wars section, they must have finally decided to clear out the stock room or something, because they had two pegs full of fresh VOTC figures.  First time I had ever seen a Chewie on the pegs.  I have all of them now, and didn't really have the cash to pick up any extras, but it was funny that they finally show up now after having those pegs empty for so long.  They had Leia, Obi, Luke, Vader, R2, Chewie, 3PO, and Lando from what I saw.  Surprisingly, no Hans.  Other than that, nothing but Saga figures as far as the eye could see.  And really old ones (Dexter Jettster and Zam), they really need to think about clearing those out.  Waiting to see what they are going to do with the pile of Falcons they have there too.

And on that note...

I got:

VOTC $5

All 3 Cantina wave for $2 as well...  :)  Muhahahahahahaha

Picked up the Cantina wave figs at Wal-Mart this weekend, for $5.88 each.  Caught up now aside from the Animated Clone Wars figures, which haven't shown in town at all yet.  It got me to thinking, $5.88 isn't a terrible price, but it looks kind of bad in some instances when I picked up Toy Biz's Super articulated (McFarlane) Spider-Man and Sandman this week for the same price.  And, the LOTR figures are hanging right next to Star Wars for the same price.  ;)

Brent & Ook:
Here in AZ, TRU has their VOTC for $10.99 US (neither WM or Target has any VOTC left here).  It sounds like that may be more than you wanted to pay, Ook.  How about you Brent?

Boba, Vader were plentiful, but R2 and Chewie were long gone. I was surprised to see Boba and stormtroopers sitting.

I can't quite remember, but isn't it the VOTC Vader that is supposed to be ideal for holding Captain Antilles by the neck?  If so, I'd love to get another Vader for a little display.  If you come across another, I'd be glad to trade/buy from you.

Thanks, Matt.  Why yes, it is a tad warmer, especially in Mexico today.   ;)  I've spent the last couple days in shorts and a T-shirt - no parka for this Canuck.  I'm loving this now, but it's going to make it so hard to go home...   :'(

Jesse - they're only on clearance right now (here in the U.S.) at the Targets and Walmarts (most likely for $5) - but not at TRU.  So don't waste your time scoping any out there!

And I just may have to start up an Arizona finds thread, maybe it'll prompt someone else to keep it up when I leave.   :)

Go for it!  I've thought about starting one myself a few times, since I go out to AZ a few times a year to visit my parents, but I didn't want to confuse anyone in the Finds section, since I've already got the regular Southern California one going.  So if you start an AZ one, I promise to update it at least once around Christmas every year!   ;)

Now go work on that tan so you can make all your fellow Canucks jealous when you get home!   8)

I'm talking clearance prices Ook, however finding them may be tough...

Of course, I'm just wondering about what they'd cost me (Canadian) from Brent because I could always use Stormtroopers...  I just know up in the North they tend to have a higher MSRP (On LOTR they do anyway...  It's a TRU thing?), but for the VOTC I will try finding for you they were $5-ish clearance.

In my neck though, VOTC's dried up fast.  At the $7 price they flew away for the most part too, but $5 was the straw...  They're going fast, and I don't get to WM a lot (they're sparse here, not one every 5 minutes).  The one I was at for Spuffy and CorranHorn had some ANH wave left though so I'll try going back.

My big find at WM recently was $15 X-Treme Detail tanks that normally run $50-ish...  $15's a friggin' steal considering they actually use die-cast metal for their tanks now and I got a Tiger I for $15.  To say it's heavy is an understatement.  It's probably the single best toy I've ever held in my hands, ever.  It's that big, detailed, and friggin' great.  :)  And WM clearanced it for really no reason since the Tigers were moving steadily.

They had plenty of R2 and 3PO's but no Stormtroopers.  :(  I'm sorta bummed I didn't get any of those actually.  I'd have been happy if all I found was one Stormie and never found those other 3.

They had Ben's, Luke's, and Leia's too...  no Han, Yoda, or Lando...  The 3 I saw the most of in this line next to Luke, Leia, and Obi-Wan.

I did the same thing today, one FD in my old neighborhood didn't have VOTC, though they had 3 sealed cases of Transformers that just came in. Another FD had a lone VOTC Obi-Wan, when I asked if they had anymore, they checked and found nothing. The guy said a truck was due during the week, so who knows, perhaps then they might have some more. Would be sweet to find cheap VOTC Stormies, one could only hope...

Nah, I mentioned him as one of the king pegwarmers I noticed around here...  I'll keep my eyes open for more.  There's other FD's around, they're just all kind of randomly placed so they're inconvenient stops generally.

This one near my gf's so out of the way I don't think anyone knew about it but someone musta bought anything else they had...  Some SW fan out here must exist. :P

I'm very late to picking up the VOTC line, but I purchased the entire set for just under original retail price including shipping.  I couldn't resist after picking up last year's and this year's lines.

That's a lotta sarges. ;)

I think you need to break that down further mister!  Not everyone can have 3 stripes...  Err, or a white shoulder pad, as the case may be. ;D
