Title: Target Clone Wars Geonosis 2-Packs
Post by: Jeff on November 18, 2010, 10:43 AM
Similar to the "Hostage Crisis" inspired 2-Packs that are out now, it looks like Target will have another wave, this time based on the Clone Wars Geonosis episodes...  pics at Sandtroopers.com (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20101117/).

- ARF Trooper Waxer and Geonosis Battle Droid
- Special Ops Clone Trooper and Geonosian Drone

While Waxer/BD are just repaints, the Spec Ops Clone looks to have an all-new tripod machine gun and new Geonosian - both are great!

Hasbro has been cranking out a lot of stuff from this story arc - Ki-Adi, Flamethrowers, Jet, Spec Ops Clone, Waxer, Boil, Geonosians - nice to see them help me fill out a shelf like that!  :)

These sets look awesome! I'm definitely in for one of the Waxer/BD sets, and probably eight of the other set... it's perfect for army building. The mounted laser cannon is awesome. I wish the ARF trooper was just a generic trooper, but I'm okay with the named character... saves me a bit of money. My only issue is that the Spec. Ops trooper doesn't have the backpack. The accessory has already been made, and nearly all of the clones in the Landing at Pt. Rain episode were wearing them.

Non-zombie Geonosian! They seem shorter than the movie-based versions.

Which side does the cannon go to?

The cannon was used by Battle Droids and geonosians in various episodes of the show. Still though, I think it's generic enough that it can be used by clones as well.

I am all over these (and tons of the Ops Trooper/Bug).

Yeah, what Greg said...  I want to pick that up for the gun I think, so if someone wants the Geonosian I'll probably have him around.

That's cool. More Seperatist gear is welcome. I guess I never noticed it per se.

Yeah it's like German MG-34's & 42's on the beaches of normandy...  strategically placed high rate-of-fire guns to mow down advancing Clones.  I've wanted that gun since it was first unveiled, actually.  Kind of weird to only want the accessory out of a set, but I'm kind of weird like that in general I guess, haha.  :)

Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em...have been waiting for a non-zombie Geonosian to be come out. I wonder if/how this will differ from the version in the TRU exclusive set recently announced.

Special Ops dude looks a lot like the missing Comm. Jet...hmm.

The TRU Geonosian will most likely have wings. It would be nice if that figure came with some different weapons as well.

I haven't picked up the sets from this round yet, but these new ones do look pretty spiffy.  I sort of liked the look of the "Special Ops" clone trooper from that episode, so I might have to grab that set.  Wouldn't mind having Waxer as well, although I haven't found the Boil deluxe set yet either.  Pretty nice sets overall though.

If they continue doing these 2 pacs they should do one with Master Di and his Clone (Keeli?).  That would be a cash money set for Hasbro imo - plus I don't think there would not be any new tooling required.

New loose production pic of the Geonosis Battledroid from these sets.

I don't recall the droids on Geonosis having all that yellow on them, but that episodes so old now I suppose I'm just not remembering right.

They did have the yellowing, it was just very hard to make out with all the dust.  Very cool!

Awesome...saw reports at RS and Sandtroopers these were starting to hit. Were they on the pegs or did you have to use the DCPI mind trick?

They had them in the back at a Target in Raleigh. I opted not to have them pulled, but I'll probably get them this weekend.

How much were they Ghost of QG?  I'm pondering the Geonosian and Trooper for the gun, actually, and selling the Geonosian off.

The price came up as $14.99 at the store by me. It was a bit pricier than expected, since I remember the last ones being $12.99... or maybe that was just the sale price.

Picked these both up today, courtesy of ye olde DCPI mind trick. Thanks for the tip! Gotta love cracking open a fresh case.

Haven't had time to look them over closely yet but my general impression is they are both outstanding efforts, like everything they have produced from the Geonosis arc.

These can't hit clearance fast enough as I would like at least 1-2 more of each for openers.

Picked up two of each of these sets this morning at my local Target.

Even though I was told by a manager that they would be put out on the 20th, they still weren't out this morning, so I had to use the DPCI trick to get them - at least the employees didn't give me any grief about it.

I like both sets, would love to army build them, but at $15 each, it just doesn't seem practical.

I grabbed one set to keep MOC and another set to open. If by some miracle these make it to clearance like the previous two sets, then I'll try to snag a few more of each - would definitely love to have small squads of the Special Ops Clone, Geonosian Drone and the Red Battledroid.

I saw these tonight...  Army builders in 2 2-packs?  Man, this is really where the realistic line fails.  You do something similar for realistic figures and I can't imagine that it would tank so long as the figures used were quality.

I picked up the set with the tri-pod gun, and I'm going to sell the Geonosian out of it...  I may sell the Clone too, I really just wanted the gun in it, but yeah, this is a really cool set I think.  They're both cool sets really.

Picked these up yesterday morning at the local Target, and overall, they're pretty cool sets.  The clones are both very well done; the Battle Droid is what it is (I will need to get two more to pilot and gun in the recent AAT, so if anyone just wanted a Waxer and had no interest in the BD, let me know and I could probably hook you up with one).

My only issue with the sets is the Geonosian.  It's a really well done figure (I love the Zombie version), but the omission of the chest/shoulder piece bugs me (no pun intended).  Not so much that it isn't included, but that the hole said piece plugs into is left empty.  Still, that cool tripod cannon makes up for that small issue, so everything kind of evens out.

What really surprised me is that my local Target actually had them on the pegs, considering I sometimes wonder if this particular store even remembers they have a toy department.

Indeed, exact same situation with me and the store I got my set at...

I don't recall from the episode but do the bugs use the tripod cannon or is that a piece of Republic artillery?* I like the SpecOps set the best since it has 2 generic army builders in there, too bad they didn't include the backpack for the clone as most of them were sporting one in the episode. I had an extra one (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6476879&l=965f7aeacf&id=202559486798) lying about and it really makes the figure, I think.

I'll pick up a couple more if it ever makes it to clearance.

* I guess I should have looked closer to the battle card included for the Geonosian as it shows it in using by the separatists.  :P

The tripod guns were also used by battle droids in one of the Ryloth episodes, so you could find homes for them with multiple separatist characters.

The gun's cool to me because it was sort of intended to represent the machine guns opening up on the beaches on D-Day.  That whole episode had a lot of "Saving Private Ryan" feel to it, and the tri-pod gun I remember pretty vividly.  I was glad they made it but hated buying the set just to get the gun, haha.

It's a cool piece though.  I'm going to wind up giving it to a realistic Geonosian Warrior or BD.
