Jocasta's Reading Room / Cloak of Deception
« on: September 12, 2003, 06:37 PM »
 :P

I just wanted to write an opinion on this book, being that I just finished it.

I was not impressed with this book.  If you HAVE to read the whole story, then this is a book that you should read.  If you are looking for entertainment value, read something else.  The book did start off good, but it was just alot of plotting and setting up of the story for Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter and the Phantom Menace.

While I am glad I read the book, purely for the background info on several key characters, I would not recommend this book for someone just wanting to read a great Star Wars book.  Check out before mentioned Shadow Hunter, any of the Timothy Zahn books, and Shadow's of the Empire if you're looking for a good story.

Sweeeeet.  I too cannot wait, and I definitely agree on the Green Goblin Power Rangers comment.  That was the main thing that I think screwed that movie.  I hear Bruce Campell is supposed to make another appearance in SM2!!

Middle Earth / Re: Lord of the Rings Figures
« on: July 25, 2003, 05:47 PM »
Does anyone collect the Lord of the Rings figures from the late 70's??  They are sculpted after the feature length cartoon movie.

I'm looking for them.  The only thing I've picked up from the new movies is a 12" Gandalf when The Fellowship of the Ring came out.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Vintage TRON toys

I'm not sure what kind of quantities were made but the vintage line consists of only 4 figures and 2 light cycles.  You have Flynn, Tron, the bad guy, and a soldier.  Flynn, Tron and the bad guy only came with their disks, the soldier came with a staff.  The 2 light cycles were the Red and Yellow ones and came with Rip Cords to make them race accross the kitchen floor!

The Blue cycle was only released later with the 20th anniversary re-issued figs.  I MIGHT get that one just to have all three colors...

Not yet.  I havn't recieved them yet.  Should get them soon though!!  I won't get pics up on my webpage until probably the middle of August.  We're in the process of packing up for the big move!

I've seen the new figs and I don't like them.  The 20th anniversary figs they put out a while ago are great though.  They're exact duplicates of the vintage ones.  I'm staying away from them though because I want original.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: I'm getting a tattoo, need help
« on: July 21, 2003, 11:50 AM »
I've got a tatoo on my upper left arm.  I'm also planning on getting more.  I think it's a great idea to get a tatoo in a place easily covered by clothes(like your back).  Make sure you're getting the tatoo for the right reason, and check out several tatoo shops in your area to make sure the artist has done high quality work in the past.

Most artists I've visited with have had a large binder full of pictures of their finished works.  Check these out and pick your tatoo artist.  Also ask around about different artists from people you know that have tatoos by shops in the local area.  It's also usefull to bring a pic of the tatoo you want so that you can get an estimate for the job.  I've had 5 different estimates from 5 different artists for the same drawing...

Mandalorian Madman,

I'm in Redmond, I know the shop you're talking about.  How much are their imported Transformer G1 re-issued figs selling for?

Thanks

I'd been interested in collecting TRON toys for a long time.  I just couldn't ever seem to get my hands on any....until now!!!

I just won an ebay auction for 2 Tron figs(Flynn and Tron) and the yellow Light Cycle.  The figs don't have their discs, and the Light Cycle is missing its plastic "motivator" pull thingy, but for $13.00 you can't beat it!

Anyone else collecting these figures?

Being able to mow my own lawn on a saturday morning while listening to my toons on the walkman, instead of hanging out in a cramped apartment.

Not having to close the windows because the down stairs neighbor can't smoke their stinking cigarettes inside their own apartment.

Writing lyrics to some new tune my best friend comes up with.

Watching my little cousins play, and trying to follow the dialog, then seeing their confused faces when I add my own super powers to the mix.  (You know the "crazy old fart" look)

Watching my wife sleep.

Episode 1 / Re: Darth Maul
« on: July 15, 2003, 04:26 PM »
Is the re-released Darth Maul fig out yet?  I've seen the removable helmet Vader, Lightsaber action Luke, and other re-releases on the shelves, but not Maul.   :-\
