Watto's Junk Yard / Re:EZ CHEESE
« on: January 14, 2003, 06:18 PM »
Sometimes, when my wife is out of town, I like to take a couple cans of EZ Cheese, spray them all over my body, and roll around in the front yard.  Oooh, squishy n' mooshy...!!!   :o   ;D

That wasn't too much information, was it?

Watto's Junk Yard / K-mart still in trouble - closing MORE stores...
« on: January 14, 2003, 05:53 PM »
Well, maybe Rainman was right: K-mart sucks.

Or at least their financial planners and business operations managers do.  They just announced that they're still struggling to emerge from last year's bankruptcy, and therefore will be cutting another 35,000 jobs and 326 stores!  You can read all about it right here at CNN.  For a complete listing of the stores affected, click here.

So hopefully that favorite K-mart of yours that you hit while you're out on your figure hunts ain't about to bite the dust!  Only a couple left anywhere around me in L.A.  I just hope Hasbro doesn't do anything stupid like give them an exclusive this year (like the rumored Slave 1/Jango Pilot set)!

Power of the Jedi / Update On Potential 3rd Wave...
« on: January 14, 2003, 05:05 PM »
Still looking for one more mint card to complete your set Chris, and then I'll fire them off to you!  My next trip down to Disneyland should be January 24th/25th, so I'll let you (and Dale) know what I can dig up!

On a side note, on my previous trip down there last week, I wound up having a nice little chat with the employee who works in the Star Traders shop (that sells the figures).  When he was ringing up the ones I was buying for Chris, he asked me if I'd be back for the third wave.  I replied that if/when the last 3 droids ever see the light of day, I'll be the first fool in line for them.  I then added that the the final wave now looked pretty doubtful at this point, since not even a hint or picture of them has hit anywhere online to date.

He quickly retorted, saying "No, not at all.  We're due to receive them near the end of next month (late February)."  I asked about the rumored Saga cardbacks for the final wave, but he said that as far as he knew, they'd definitely still be on the green POTJ cards.  So there ya' go.  Take it as you will, but this fella seemed surprisingly knowledgeable about the Star Tours line (and Star Wars in general) during our 5 minute chat about it, so hopefully he knows what he's talking about!  (fingers crossed...)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Have you found...
« on: January 14, 2003, 04:53 PM »
Brad -
Any better luck with finding any of these items lately?  If not, I'd be happy to hook you up with the 2 pilot figures and the shaved Endor Soldier if you'd like (for cost plus shipping).  I can keep an eye out for those other ones as well for you, if you'd like.  LMK.

Acklay (seen it exactly twice, including once around X-mas)
Clone Pilot (several times)
Jango Pilot (BIG pegwarmer 'round here)
Cantina Guy - K'ti'kc (not yet released)
Cantina Guy - Dr. Evazen (not yet released)
Ephant Mon (my wife found ONE, never seen one myself)
Clone Trooper w/ Bike (Nope, never)
Endor Head Variant (several times)

The only stuff I've never personally seen is the Ephant, Deluxe Clonetrooper, and the Trash Compactor sets.  If anyone comes across those, please give me a shout!  Muchas gracias...

Power of the Force 2 / Re:Favorite POTF2 Figure.
« on: January 14, 2003, 04:39 PM »
I'd definitely go with the Removable Helmet Vader.  Just awesome.  But pretty much any brand new figure that had never been made in the Vintage line was highly favored by me:

  • Slave Leia
  • Grand Moff Tarkin
  • Garindan
  • Oola
  • Cantina Band Member
  • Sandtrooper
  • Wuher
  • Biggs
  • Han Stormtrooper
  • Ishi Tib (despite wrong outfit)
  • Muftak/Kabe
  • etc...

Power of the Force 2 / Re:Han Solo and Taun Taun 3 3/4"
« on: January 14, 2003, 04:32 PM »
Most definitely one of the hardest to find items from the POTF2 line (if not the entire modern era)!  I was lucky enough to score one for around $20 from one of the e-tailers online, several months after it first came out.  I had to, since I never once saw it in the stores.

Lovely jacket Han's got there, huh?   ;)

TV-9D9 / WARNING! FREAK SHOW!
« on: January 14, 2003, 02:29 PM »
I picked up a copy of this off of eBay a couple years back.  For the $10-$15 that I paid for it, I'd say it was well worth it!  This show is a nostalgic treasure of years past - true 70's in all it's glory.  No Star Wars video library would be complete without one!

But, with that said, from a Star Wars standpoint, I must point out that this is a complete and total abomination.  An atrocity of monumental proportions.  It's like watching a train wreck, or the freak show at the circus.  You never look at some of your favorite Trilogy characters the same again!  From the very beginning, your jaw just drops open, as you sit and wonder how in the hell this show ever got produced and released on network TV.  What was George thinking when he signed off on this?!?  Absolutely unbelievable...

There are a couple of redeeming points to the Holiday Special though (kinda).  There's the interesting Boba Fett cartoon, with his first ever appearance anywhere in the SW Saga.  Then there's also the Cantina scene...  Sure, it's more than frightening to see one of the Golden Girls filling in for Wuher behind the bar, and leading the entire Cantina alien gang in a wonderous song and dance number.  But if you consider the fact that you barely got a glimpse of most of these aliens in ANH, you'll perhaps enjoy seeing them up close and personal, in much greater detail throughout this extended scene.  Granted they're singing and dancing, but from a reference standpoint, this scene is a customizers dream!

The whole show is just freakishly bizarre.  You'll never be the same after watching it, but it's so far out there that it's almost worth watching just for the pure shock value (similar to the recent Anna Nicole show).

If any of you do wind up getting a copy and watching it, listen to me when I tell you that no matter what, it will be even worse than you ever imagined - despite all the terrible things that you've already heard about it.  It was the most difficult hour or two of my life watching this thing...  But I'm glad that I did, 'cause at least I now know where my POTJ Zutton comes from!

The Original Trilogy / Re:Ewok Adventures on DVD?
« on: January 14, 2003, 02:01 PM »
Where'd you find that picture Brad?  Are those DVDs real, bootlegs, fan made, faked CG images, or what?

I'm not really sure what you mean by "THIS IS A POORLY MODIFIED PICTURE... NOT THE REAL THING."

What was the original picture of, before it was "modified"?

Confused...  ???

Other Collectibles / Re: Hallmark Star Wars
« on: January 14, 2003, 01:43 PM »
I've been collecting these since their inception.  I've got all of the Original Trilogy ornaments, along with a couple Prequel ones which I don't care too much for.

My favorite is the light up Millenium Falcon - by far.  This thing is totally sweet!  It's the only one I've ever put up on my Christmas trees.  I plan to buy a small, fake tree sometime soon to put in the Star Wars room (when we move), to give all of my ornaments a permanent home.

Saga '02-'04 / Re:New Saga ESB Tie Bomber.
« on: January 14, 2003, 03:15 AM »
Well, technically it's not exactly the same.  Same mold, but this one has a fair amount of weathering on it that's not on the POTJ version, along with a few added "blast" marks.  I'll be picking up another one to keep MIMB, and probably one more as well to keep loose, just due to the slightly different paint apps.  Yes, I'm a freak like that.  Please no flaming, thank you!   ;)

It's nice to see this vehicle getting refreshed out on the retail market again, as it was a pretty difficult find for many folks the first time around.  I know I never saw the POTJ version in stores - had to pick up a couple on the trading boards.

BTW, there's a store report in our forums here (the Indy section) of possibly finding these at a K-mart.  Is this still solely a WM exclusive?  Perhaps that was just a typo in that store report...  Anyone know for sure?

Saga '02-'04 / Re:New green A-Wing...
« on: January 14, 2003, 03:00 AM »
As I mentioned above, it's the same mold as the POTF2 A-wing (which is really just the original Vintage mold), with some spruced up weathering and green paint apps.

It's hard to tell what the pilot is exactly from that blurry picture, but it appears to be one of the pilots from the Cinema Scene 3-pack from a couple years back.  But in all likelihood, the figure in that picture might just be a "fill in" figure just for that shot.  Knowing Hasbro though, I wouldn't expect anything more than a rehash of a previous pilot figure of some sort, with some slight paint differences.  But it's too early to know anything for sure...

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Collecting how did you get hooked
« on: January 14, 2003, 12:48 AM »
I decided, "choke", to have a Star Wars bonfire, "sob" one pyromanical, insane ridden day and they all turned into a big plastic blob! I still have a hard time forgiving myself.
Doubtful if I'll ever forgive you for that bonehead move either.  Shame on you, ya' silly kid!  Fortunately for me, though my Mom hocked the vast majority of my toys at garage sales throughout my childhood, the one area that was always untouchable was my Star Wars collection.  It spent many years up in the attic, from the mid-80's to the early 90's, but is was all SAVED, thank God...

Now if only I had kept all of those vintage figures carded...  Silly kid indeed...
