Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The frustrations of home buying...
« on: June 19, 2003, 04:06 PM »
Related to this topic, I would like to proudly announced that this week I closed refinances on both of my homes, and I am now paying 5% (even) interest on the 15 year loan for one, and 4.00% on a 5/1 adjustable for the other.

That's down from 7.75% and 6.75%, which saves me hundreds every month in mortgage payments. All on interest! That money wasn't doing anything but going to the bank, and now it's going to ME!

The only thing better than buying your home, is lowering those darn payments!   ;D

My girlfriend is registered with me on the Seattle boards and really enjoys them.  I think she has more posts than I do actually. If not, it's close.

I was thinking of directing her to other forums (like Rebelscum) back in the day, but I really don't think they know how to treat the ladies. It's like they're so shocked to see a female in their isolated little online world, that they immediately elevate her to "goddess" status and drool all over her every day she appears.

Certain obssesive love threads and other lameness over the one or two girls around there comes to mind. I hardly wanted to be the one that recommend that sort of lame enviornment to my girlfriend. It would be like throwing her to a pack of really lame wolves just so I could have some more company.   ;D

However, this place seems a lot more laid back and friendly. Maybe I'll suggest she head over this way one of these days.

Cool....can't wait. I still have yet to see a full on version of Clonetrooper armor.

Seems a shame to waste it on a mannequin though. You should be out with your local 501st Trooping!

can they not leave feedback after that time?

have you tryed this mr joshEEE?

barfly

No, I haven't tried it yet....as I only heard of this strategy 2 months ago, but I'm PLANNING to do it the first time someone burns me. That's for sure.  :)

An alternative is to wait until 1 minute before the 90th day has expired (you can get this by finding the end date of your auction and then adding 90 days to it)...and leaving your negative feedback then.

That way, they will have no chance to reply or soil your rep.

I'd like to see pictures of your clonetrooper armor sometime. I'm always asking the 501st guys I know "Why no clonetroopers?" and I think the consensus is it's just too hard to make it look as real as it did digitally.

So I'd love to see what you did.

Last night, a tip at Rebelscum's "Look what I found" section landed me my first two Red Battle Droids ever. I wouldn't have checked the store if I hadn't visited the thread.

I've been buying accessory packs to build my army...waiting and salivating for the day when I could finally start with the single carded versions for 4.79 instead of 9.99 for the one with all the extra junk.

So when I found these thanks to a tip online, I went home and bragged to my girlfriend about how cool the boards are...etc, etc.

"That's nice" she said.

I've also told people certain pieces of trivia I've learned at various boards....which usually gets me a nice blank stare. I don't think most people understand the communities here, but I sure like em.

Other Toy Lines / Re: the present toy market
« on: June 18, 2003, 01:28 PM »
While I share your views that the artificial inflation of toy prices and "values" is ridiculous, I truly believe it's only that way for the people that choose to be victims of the people who would take it there.

There are ways to fight this behavior:

1. Don't be an obsessive completist. I don't go hunting for every mis-painted, mis-numbered or incorrectly packed figure. Sure, I'll try to find the two different hair colors of an Endor Soldier for army building....but I don't give a rip about which one has some stupid cardboard insert and which one doesn't.  If you ARE a completist...you can still redefine what "Complete" means to you. Do you HAVE to have every numbering and packaging variation, or just one of every figure? When you buy the stupid variations for 3 or 6 times retail...you encourage the people selling this stuff.

Which brings us to....

2. I refuse to buy figures from scalpers of any kind. I don't buy from scalpers on the web, at shops or at shows. Sure...it doesn't hurt their business....but I'm putting MY money where my mouth is, and not spending it on scalped products. If you hate the way things are going....don't patronize the people that take it there. Plain and simple. There are other ways (like these boards) to get your HTF figures.

3.  I only buy what I need. I NEVER buy to re-sell or to save for a later increase in value. I've done that in the past, and I now believe it's fruitless and wrong. This way, I help control the problem on my end as well.

4.  PATIENCE. You don't have to have it NOW. You WILL find it later. In the rare instance the value skyrockets, you'll be punished, but 9 times out of 10...the prices go down....not up. Overall, the patient person will get all the figures they ever wanted.....much cheaper than the one that buys all the pre-releases on Ebay or at hobby shops.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Most regetful thing u ever did
« on: June 17, 2003, 02:07 PM »
I saw the title of this topic, and immediately thought of all the women I would like to have erased from my past for one reason or another. Or maybe that month I got 6 speeding tickets in a row and had to be on probation for a year. Arguments I've had with friends I don't speak to anymore. Etc, etc. Even though I have no big complaints over all,  there have been a lot of things over the years that I'd take back if I could.

Then I come in here and you guys are talking about toys.

SO....in that arena, my biggest regret is not opening all my figures sooner than I did. I can't believe how much collection appreciation time I wasted with them all in their packages like that.

There, now I fit in.  :)

I already listed Mambo No.5 by Lou Bega....  :P

But I'd like to nominate another Grunge artist "Seven Mary Three" with Cumbersome.

Two more corrections (Both Matt's entries)

Here's my "actors should never sing" one-hit wonder contributions:

Eddie Murphy - Party All the Time

Eddie Murphy actually had ANOTHER big single that was on the radio quite a bit in the mid 90's, with none other than the King of Pop himself. The song?  Whazzupwitu.  It was actually in the top 10 singles for awhile when it was released.  The album cover was baby blue with red hearts all over it.  Scary.....

Kris Kross:  Jump

Many people actually remember Kris Kross for the SECOND single (Warm it up), and some may even remember the third single off that album "I missed the bus" (which borrowed so heavily from Young MC's "Principle's office" that many folks accused them of stealing the lyrics.

Their second album featured a single "Alright" as well as "The Bomb", but neither got them as much play as the 1st album did.

That's my totally Krossed out update.  :)

Wishing Well by Terrance Trent Darby

He claimed his album was going to be bigger than the Beatles Sgt. Peppers album.  After that, his career went down the crapper.

Buzzzz. Sorry, Terrance Trent D'arby had another hit in the early 90's with "She Kissed Me".

It was a song about someone kissing him "There".

It was Controversial at the time, even.   :)

I thought I'd ressurect this thread with today's hip hop nomination:

Luniz "I got 5 on it"

I have so many great "Dad" stories, but I was surprised to realize that I don't really have too many Star Wars stories with him. He likes the movies and all, but he doesn't go to lines or anything with me. He likes to see them a month later when it's not so crazy. He never saw AOTC in either digital or Imax, as the local theater was enough for him.

I'm trying to convince him to plan on the midnight show of EP3, but we'll see how that works out.  :)

Saturday night I was over there visiting for Father's Day weekend and we watched AOTC on HBO. I was explaining to him all the backstories and foreshadowing that he wasn't quite in tune with. It was a lot of fun, and he thinks he's "Ready for the 3rd one now".

I suppose that qualifies as a topical Dad story.

You know...after reading through this thread, I've found one common trait in everyone here. We all think we were really great at SF2.  :)

I run into a lot of people who feel this way. I mention that I love the game (and that I've got it) and they talk about how great they used to be at their local gas station or arcade....only to get the smackdown when they come and give it a try.  "I'm out of practice" is always the excuse.  ;D

On the other hand, Every once in awhile...someone comes by and schools me so bad that I feel like an amateur.

I think skill at this game is all relative to how good your competition was back when you were good at it.

I think the only well to REALLY tell is to have ourselves a little tourney sometime.  Someone want to bring their SNES to Comic Con?  Hehehe.

I just don't think they're that comparable since Eminem seems to generally be more respected throughout the rap community, has already had a much longer shelf life, and has had a lot more hit songs, including a couple with Dre...

I don't know if Eminem is respected by other rappers outside Dr. Dre's circle. I mean, you never hear him "Beefing" with anyone besides pop stars like Britney Spears, Christina Augilera and Moby. I heard he has something against Ja Rule now.....but he's just as big a poster boy as Vanilla Ice ever was.

He's just lasted longer.....that's all I'm giving him.
