Vintage Kenner / Does anybody buy vintage cardbacks anymore?

I've gotten out of the SW buying/selling/collecting business and still have a few things I'm going to get rid of.  Does anybody still buy vintage cardbacks?  I've got a handful from my Han Solo focus.

Also, is AFA still in business?  I thought about getting a Han Solo loose figure graded that I pulled from a badly cracked bubble, but am uncertain if I'm going to get it graded.  I'm not sure if AFA is still in business being that I couldn't pull up their website.  Second, I'm not sure if the payoff will be enough to justify sending the figure in.

My daughter and I went in for one last look today with stuff 70-90% off.  There was virtually nothing left with the exception of some Oakland A's Sonny Gray McFarlane figure.  If you know baseball, Gray hasn't pitched for Oakland since the middle of last season.  There were a couple of random things here and there, but that was about it aside from shelving that was for sale.  I did manage to score some 9v batteries for $2 a package.

But, a bittersweet time in my life closed today.  The one I visited with my daughter is the same one my mom used to take me to when I'd come to visit her.

I've said before, it's no wonder TRU is closing it's doors...old selection, no rotation of new items, over priced and no sales.  They just couldn't cut it with Walmart and Target in regards to brick and mortar, and then there was no way they could compete with Amazon online.

The Talking Dead was the giveaway for me.  The actress kept talking about the character in a present tense.

It reminded me of Glenn and the dumpster.

I gave up on that show a loooong time ago.  I can't stand Hardwick.

Just watched the midseason of Fear.

I have a feeling we are being played with the character death.

Agreed...nobody is dead until you see them killed on screen.  I'll say, this season of FTWD has been really, really solid and a massive improvement over everything we've seen from that show so far.  I'll go so far as to see it's been even better than season 7/8 of TWD.

We went in on Sunday.  Little did my daughter know that I had already bought a couple of nerf guns.  So we bought her a crossbow and went into our long hallway to put it together and try it out.  We got it working and then told her to practice for a bit and we'd be back. (I'm a nut for gun safety so even though it's nerf, she still treats it like a loaded gun).

Anyway, my wife and I took the chance to put our guns together and then called my daughter into the living room...and blasted her.  And that in turned became a half hour long firefight on Sunday, and another hour last night.

So I guess we paid around $60 for 3 guns and a pack of 100 rounds of ammo...probably $120 worth of stuff.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Solo (SPOILERS)
« on: May 31, 2018, 06:23 AM »
I got to see Solo yesterday and I loved it. I grew up a Han Solo fan, so this was something I wanted to see.  The plot was decently solid, not perfect, but it didn't try to be overly complicated and it wasn't too simple minded.  I thought it was pretty cool just to see how certain things from Solo's past happened, although much of it had been alluded to in EU books (that Disney has said doesn't matter, but we know in this case it may have).

I went in worrying if I was going to be able to see somebody other than Harrison Ford as Solo, and found it to not be an issue within minutes of the movie starting.  I thought Ehrenreich did a great job and nailed the portrayal.  I like how the plot seemed to weave back to the character of Han Solo that we see throughout the OT.  The only complaint, if you want to call it that, was the entire Darth Maul thing at the end.  Of course, that was a set up for a sequel that I'm completely on board for.  The side note to that, and intertwined with Maul, was the Qi'ra character.  A solid character, but her backstory wasn't completely put together in my mind.  But again, that might be sequel material and if they had gone into it, this movie it might have made it too cumbersome.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest over the Disney movies vs. OT vs. PT, but in my mind, this was far above and beyond what I saw in TFA and TLJ and probably falls into 2 or 3 in my own ranking order of all the SW movies.  I could see a little bit of the Disney influence, but I didn't think the humor was forced or too over the top and fit the character perfectly.

Overall, I loved the movie and it was certainly worth watching and I'm hoping there is a sequel.

If I was going to rank the movies by favorites:
Empire
Rogue One
Solo (those two could be flipped)
SW
ROTJ
TFA
ROTS
AOTC
TLJ
TPM

I stopped by on my way home today.  Stuff is on sale for 40-60% off now.  I grabbed a couple of Nerf guns and a few hundred rounds for me and my daughter.  I told her when that stuff went on a real sale I'd scoop some up.  Most of the actual guns were sold, so I figured it was now or never unless I wanted to be stuck with the zombie crossbow and nothing else.  My daughter will be stoked when I surprise her with them.

Forgot we had a thread on this.

Anyway, I'll repeat my thoughts from the other thread.

Another solid episode last night.  I like the flashback style of episodes this season.  It's allowed the storytelling to go on without getting bogged down in mindless details or moral debates.

Cool twist at the end.

I got in to see this yesterday afternoon...had to sweet talk my daughter to get her to go with me.  I was blown away and I loved it.  A ton of stuff to digest.  I can't wait for the next installment.

Good episode. This show is getting better.

The end definitely caught me off guard.  I was finally getting into that character a bit.

I think people need to listen to Morgan.  It think it's pretty cool how the crossover blends his experience from TWD to FTWD. Obviously they have to do that, but it's cool that he mentions what he's learned/scene/experienced without name dropping and making over the top ties between the two shows.

^^That's pretty cool.

Being a Texan, I do get tired of the stereotypes.  FTWD has definitely played into that with that new character.  It's a bit annoying.  We don't all walk around with hats, boots, and a revolver on our hip.

Having lived in Texas for six years I can say that you're absolutely right.  You don't all do that.

But most of you do.   :)

Okay, that's funny.  Not true...but still funny. :)

I took my daughter here this weekend...and guess what...shelves loaded with stuff and on sale for 10-15% off.  With that in mind, it brought the prices in line with the local Target and Walmart prices.  Again no wonder TRU is going under.

I will say most of the video games were gone AND I did see some SW stuff I hadn't seen before.  But that isn't really an issue being that I don't collect anymore.  I did try to find some Transformer stuff, but there wasn't even a section for them.  So my daughter walked around looking for the LOL surprise, Shopkins, and whatever else her age is doing and it was pointless.  I told her save her cash and we'll come back in a couple of weeks when they really put stuff on sale.

I couldn't believe the sale prices were so low when the store closings are less than a month away.  At least I thought I read the day was 22 May.
