Modern Classifieds / Please allow me to pimp this for my girlfriend
« on: September 2, 2006, 11:55 PM »
Hi all, I know it's cheesy as hell to pimp your ebay auctions on sites but way back when Starwarsshop sold the really sweet Clone Wars Yoda cels I convinced my girlfriend to go along with me and try to snag one of the lowest numbered ones. I was obviously keeping mine for myself but she was having some financial strain at the time and I assured her if she snagged a low numbered one, she could turn around and sell it (I know, I was turning her into what I hate the most, a scalper :-[) and make enough profit to help her out.

Well it's been about 2 years or so and the Yoda cel really hasn't been selling like crazy on ebay but I'm hoping it's just because all of the ones I've seen sold are either numbered 250/300 or don't even give the edition size at all.

Anyway, I put it up under my ebay name and wrote the description for her because even though I've brought out her love for SW, she doesn't know too much about the collecting side of it.

It is a really nice piece and is in as new condition as the day it arrived plus it is the 8th one out of the 300 edition size which I hope gives it a selling point over the others on ebay.  If you or anyone you know might be interested in it, if you could pass it along to them I would be eternally grateful.

Over the time since she bought it my girlfriend has grown to love SW (in thanks to my talking about it daily) and especially the little green man and actually wanted to keep it and frame it.  The thing is I am moving in with her this weekend and I own the #7 print of the cel so I'm bringing mine to hang in the house so hers is really not needed now. Also I need to save face because I totally convinced her to spend $250 on something that I figured would be a super hot collectible and my 10+ years of collecting integrity and reputation are on the line. ;D

Who knew those crappy little $25 Clone Wars character cels would be what everyone wants. :P

Thanks for reading this rant and thank you even more if you can pass the ebay link to anyone you might know who may be interested in it!

 :)

Sorry, no eBay auctions are allowed on the forum as per forum guidelines.

3 and a half hours later he still hasn't even hit the low numbers yet. ::)

Why SS decided to make almost twice as many of him as some of the main characters is just silly IMO.

It seems to me SS isn't as much concerned about making collectibles anymore as much as they are selling as many as they think they can.

I find it odd that they focused so much on putting their own mugs in each SDCC pic this year. I know they didn't in the past because I'd never even seen what 75% of the RS staff looked like until now and I've visited the site daily for years.

Seems like the Dustin thing is their first step at becoming SW "celebrities."  ::)

This one just makes me ill to look at.

What a goofball looking dude he is...

I also seem to suspect they moved Dustins announcement to somewhere more "unannounced" because they were worried a backlash was coming. ;)

While the throne is insanely overpriced, I still acted like a sucker and ordered all 3.

I had to put the throne on Flex-pay though. Luckily it gives me 6 months to save up.

SS really needs to stop being so greedy though. No way is that slab of polystone and piece of plastic worth $200. ???

I worry that the more and more collectors start buying this line, SS is just going to keep uping the prices. They've hit the goldmine here and they know it.

I want a SS 12" Tauntaun, Wampa and Bantha so bad but now I cringe to even think how much they'd charge...

Patience is a virtue.

You guys keep hinting that you know something we don't know.

I can't wait to see this interview.  ;D

Yeah, really.   Spill the beans already! ;)

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me what Jedi are in the newest pic?

The description says it's some from the films that survived Order 66.

So is anyone going to Comic Con wearing USC clothes.
I stopped at an athletic lettering place today on the way home from work and they are printing a shirt for me, which they assure me will be ready by Tuesday.

On the front it will read: I voted for Willrow Hood...

& on the back: ...and USCwannabe

Well, you're not going to get your pic on SW.com's SDCC coverage now are you?
 ;)

I think JediMAC summed up what most of us posted and the general attitude over there very nicely.

I don't know if there's any conspiracy elements involved (although I never had the picture of Phillip that I do now) but more so just that Dustin or anyone involved with ANY business affiliations with LFL should not have been elligible to run.

All I asked Phillip to do was simply admit that Dustin had a tremendously unfair advantage over the "regular" fan who doesn't have the luxury of having rebelscum and TFN cram his campaign down our throats for months on end and you saw the condescending spin doctoring I got thrown back my way.

He so laughably claimed it was "all in fun" but the whole thing was just used by Phillip to be another feather in his hat. I'm dissapointed SW.com did not disqualify anyone with present or past ties to LFL licensed companies.

Oh well, I just hope when Dustin is introduced at SDCC like some conquering hero, he is met with jeers and boos. I could care less about the "presidency" title but I am sad that some fan who could have had the opportunity of a lifetime had it snatched away by someone who has already had more cool experiences as a SW fan than most of us will ever get.

Just really, really sad and shameful in my opinion.

Dooku1?
Did Philip drop the ol' ban hammer on you over at RS?

Hahaha!
You got me! Glad to see a familar face, so to speak!

Nah, he didn't ban me as far as know, I just decided to finally leave.

I'm satisfied going out with a bang by so infuriating Phillip it made him cwy and delete the thread. :'(

He knew he was beaten and took the low road out which suited me just fine.

I was totally civil with him until he started getting so utterly condescending.
I'm just happy his true colors were shown to all of us once and for all and I hope the SW community remembers it for a long, long time....

Well I had been a regular at rebelscum for quite a few years but after seeing what an old prick Phillip was today, I'm through with that place.

All the better really because as a 31 year old I got tired of talking to annoying children and morons who can hold a simple discussion without always being right. :P

I would imagine (hope?) this place might gain a few more intelligent scummer deserters in the near future.

I hope that old bastard loses everybody after that show of utter disgrace he pulled over this contest. If any of them have one iota of sense they'll realize his crybaby antics of locking the thread is just the ultimate proof that those of us calling him out were 100% right about him.

I know I'll never add another penny to his tight white 80's shorts by visiting his sites or spending another $2000+ through Official Pix.

Anyway, I hope I'm welcome here and if so I'll probably be chatting with many of you on the Sideshow 12" forum.
 :)
