Title: Hold Date for Remaining Figs?
Post by: Jim on October 26, 2005, 09:14 AM
So I go to WM yesterday afternoon and find the island which has been discussed on the boards.  Its loaded with DVD 3-packs and the last 12 figs.  I buy a couple of each figs and the DVD clone pack and head off to the checkout.

The DVD packs ring fine.  Then the basic figs are not in the system.  I waited 30 minutes for a price check and this is what I get.  Sorry we cant sell you these figures since they arent suppose to be on the floor.  I then mention that someone has bought some recently because the 501st Clone is the only fig not available.  I can see if 1-2 figs were on the floor, but there were tons.    We still cant  help you .  By now I have about 5 customers behind me that are pissed at me because I am holding them up.  Only 2 registers are open.  Then the person who denies me to buy them asks me what I want to do.  Wrong question to ask me.  I want to buy them and they still say no.  By now I am floored and said if you want to know what I want, but wont sell them, to stop jerking me off and think before you ask such a stupid question.   I ask for the Manager who is not in the store that day. Now I have 3 WM employees telling me that my behavior is a bit much.  I leave the other items I bought and told them to pound sand.

Fast forward a few hours when I go back that night.  The items are still on the island and my figures have been returned.  Fortuenately the MGR is now in the store but unfortuneately he has less gray matter then then the people working there.  Denied again.

Anyone else finding a hold on figs til the DVD release?  I can understand if the movie had not been released yet, but this a bit much.  One again it confirms that retail does not have the brightest lightbulbs in the business.

When you said "if you want to know what I want, but wont sell them, to stop jerking me off and think before you ask such a stupid question." I literally laughted out loud  ;D  I've been wondering what was up at my WM since they have reorganized the SW section 2 or 3 times in the past week and a half and there have been none of the "final 12" figures to be found.  I just found the DVD 3 packs (one clone pack left! YES!).

Did they say what day you COULD buy them on?  BTW, I'd bet 100 bucks that some weesle stashed the Tack Ops Troopers under some huggies or somesuch...

I can not believe that Jim. I have not heard of that happening, but it seems so typical of WM. I would be furious. Have you called the national Customer Service?

This happened to me when I tried to ring mine up (fortunately I took the end peg with me with the price on it and she rung it up with  THAT $4.77 price and I escaped the store without saying a word(well, except thank you after I completed the transaction)

Haven't been able to find my way to a walmart in the last week but good to know. Bad for people finding the figures early, good for those waiting for the dvd release. Looks like another feeding frenzy in a few days...

They said I could buy them for the ROTS DVD release.  I willl wager a paycheck that all those figs will be gone by then.  Incompetent bastards.  Even the MGR's in my WM's seem to be a bit slow upstairs.

Has anyone asked if you could put them on layaway if they are being so firm? Then put them on layaway and you can promise  ;) not to buy them until the 1st. At least then the figures are on hold for you and you alone, and not on the pegs.

Stupid though that they put figures out and won't sell em.

i also has this problem but i guess the WM employees in my area are nice, well maybe the registers. but when i picked up the final 4, the price didnt ring up and they told me how much they were. then they punch the item number and description manually. i just stood there and looked confused.  8)

but that is ridiculous to say they are not able to sell basic figures when there hanging and poping out of the pegs.

Well this is my opinion.  If someone comes into your store and they have figures or any merchandise out on the floor that means to me they want customers to buy that product.  I can understand if there was a mistake made and it should not be out on the floor.  But that is Wal-Mart's problem pure and simple.  They should sell the customer whatever the customer wanted to buy.  Take care of the customer and then get a stockperson back to the items that should not be on the floor, pack them back up and sit them in the storage area until the release date.  Unfortunately some of the people that work in retail are about as dumb as a box or rocks.  You can bet your ass Sam Walton would have had a fit if his employees were that dumb.

The fact the figs were back on the floor for someone else to grab and experience that debacle shows WalMart's incompetence.  If they are holding figs back for the DVD release and in essence putting a street date on them, they should pull them off the floor.  If I'm you, I go back and stash them somewhere safe and go back Tuesday.

Walmart sucks, plain and simple. Holding figures for a DVD release makes no sense. Actual movie theater release maybe. They must realize that they lose business this way.

That's a new one to me Jim, and actually anything out on display in the store that is obviously for sale should be able to be sold to you.  There are overrides and such, and they should've gotten a management member (The main guy ain't there all the time but there are managers for all shifts at any given store so they should've gotten someone).

I think they jerked you around basically and that sucks ass man.

There's no excuse for the treatment and they owe you in my opinion.  My suggestion is raise hell with their district manger.  It's always worked for me to make my complaint known to every level I can get ahold of.  The district #'s usually posted at customer service or Lay-Away...  I forget.

Anyway, that does suck man.  I DID run into figures not being in the system tonight.  I got a couple of the final figures (R4 and Wookiee) and they weren't in the system so the kid rang a Blue Senate Guard I bought through 3 times.  Not clearing out their inventory tracking system but that's sorta-kinda not skin off my ass...  It is because it means an R4 and Wookiee are still in their system that shouldn't be but whatever.

This hasn't happened to me at my 4 WM stores. It sounds like a nation-wide-SKU-not-in-the-WM-system-problem. It's unfortunate what happened to Jim in his situation. Comparitively speaking IMO it's no worse than the Targets in my area have 5 cases worth of collection 2 figs in the back and space for 8 cases on the floor but they won't stock it because a customer requested it. Either way it's bad business-I guess it just depends on your store :(

Try this, the " bantha fodder neimo frog technique". Tonite I grabbed a 501st and a plo koon holo. Seeing as how last time I purchased this last wave figs 2 days ago the girl had to ring them up as "doll" and it took a while.Since I new this would happen I grabbed an expendable neimo frog to take to the counter with me and told the checker that "if these 2 have a problem ringing up them ring this one up twice, please" and she did and smiled! Then we discarded the neimo (who performed his duty) in a return basket ;)

And the galaxy judges the Neimodians as stunted cowardly slime!?  No way, they're selfless warriors throwing themselves in the line of laser scanner fire for other guy's benefit.

I salute you Neimodians.

I had a similar, more embarassing experience in August.  I was at a Navy Exchange and I found a Scanning Crew Member figure.  It was so "old" that the bar code wasn't in the system but I didn't know that.  I was just excited to finally find not one but 2 of them in a small store in a small Navy Base.  There was a line (lunch time rush) and the lady scanned them and they didn't register a price....and then it happend.  "I NEED A PRICE CHECK ON STAR WARS TOYS PLEASE!"  EVERYONE looked right at me, the big bad Officer buying toys..."for my kids I swear :-["  I didn't say anyting and just waited for an eternity while an employee went back and picked a newer figure for her to scan and get a price... :P  But I got 2 Scanning Crew guys out of it :D

I was at WM last night and the figures were all gone as I suspected.  Not sure if they were bought or put back.  I did find about 10 of them hidden in another section of the store. Apparently someone else got screwed and decided to come back later for them when they were in the system.

Nope.  Didnt buy em.  Left them hidden for the other poor person who hid them.  Im only looking for a couple of each fig and I figure with the release this coming week I should hopefully find them.

On the evening 27th/morning of the 28th, I purchased a couple of figures at a Walmart that had just opened on the morning of the 27th and none of the final five figures would ring up either. However, since the store had just opened that day, they had lots of stuff the would not ring up for people so they rang mine up with a default toy number, wrote down the barcode, and charged me the $4.77 price of the couple of SA Clone Troopers I was buying and I was out the door and on my merry way.
