Title: A 6" Scaled Star Wars Line: Would You Be Interested?
Post by: Brian on June 23, 2006, 10:41 AM
There has been a lot of talk I've seen on various forums about the possibility of 6" scaled "Marvel Legends style" Star Wars figures - especially with the new partnership between Marvel/Toybiz and Hasbro with the Marvel Universe figures starting in 2007.  I've read that there is even a custom Darth Maul example done in this style in the latest ToyFare (or Lee's, can't remember for sure).  Anyways, not saying that it is even a possibility - but would you be interested in this?  Not at the sake of the 3 3/4" scale line, of course, because I think that is the "Star Wars scale" and should continue as long as there is a line.  I guess these would be in addition/running alongside the basic line - maybe in place of some of the other lines (or crap) that is released now with a Star Wars logo on it.

Would it be something you would like, or would be interested in, if it ever happened?  I'd always stick with the 3 3/4" line, but I'm also a collector of the Marvel Legends/Classics figures - and there has been some great stuff in that line.  When it comes down to it, if they were really well done, I couldn't say for sure that I could pass up a ML-styled Han and Chewie on the pegs.  I was just curious if anyone here would even be interested at all, or if you think a line like this would be a good idea.  It seems like the Legends line is quite popular right now, and the 6" scale is as well, is this a good way for Star Wars to head in the future?  Again, not saying it will/should happen, just something to talk about.

No.  I don't care how cool they are, I just refuse to start over at a whole new scale...

Bigger figures take up more space and after 10+ years of the modern stuff, I'm running out of room as it is.

I'm with Jeff. I'd hate to collect a new scale, and I dislike most '6 scale figures, save for the Halo 7' line.

I'd think long and hard about it that's for sure.  I'm a huge fan of the Marvel Legends line and with me out of the 3-¾" line, space is not as much of an issue anymore.

I'd probably be selective, just as I am with ML.

And that Darth Maul custom in this style was awesome.

I'd have to say no as well. The basic figure line is large enough and I'm quite happy with it, so I see no need to try to find more display space.

This might be a different sort of reason, but an ML line of Star Wars doesn't appeal to me because I don't think of these as "action figures" so much as "film representations".  That's not to say I don't like articulation (which helps get the figures into more film-like poses) but I just don't think I need to pose a Lando quite like I pose a Wolverine figure.  Furthermore, I really like sticking to the traditional line scale.

I've seen the article (it's the most recent Toyfare and has the pics of the custom Maul, which is awesome).

I think I'd side with Jeff on this one.  But like Mikey, I really enjoy the Marvel Legends figures as well.  That said, I've often remarked that I wish the ML stuff was done in the 3.75" scale.  I'm not about to go back and start again, as others have remarked.  I might gather some figures but I think I'm waning a bit with being overwhelmed anyway, so introducing yet another thing for me to collect will probably have limited temptation for me.

That's a good point Brent, I've often said the same thing about the Marvel figures (and LOTR for that matter).  "I wish this line would have started out in the 3.75" scale".  I mean, ToyBiz has done an amazing job with the various Marvel lines - but if they had started in the smaller scale (similar to what Marvel Legends Showdown is now), I probably would have dove in further right away.  Supplement it with larger figures like Galactus, Sentinels, etc.  Anyways, I could see me picking up a few of the main OT characters though - but like others have said, its not like I have the space for them anyways :).

I dont have the room for it. So honestly no i dont want another line in this scale. With that said, Marvel did have Star Wars comics in the years past, and I think 1 box set would work.

Luke
Han
Chewbacca
Leia
Vader
Stormtrooper

If they looked good,I'd only get the main characters just to look tall next to my Invader Zim figures.

No interest in them at all. I'm not a big enough geek to need the same characters in another scale ;)

One hundred percent agreed. I can't even buy the vehicles I want because of space issues.

No freakin way I am about to restart collecting.  Mods should delete this thread before some dumbass at Hasbro read this and brings this idea up ;)

I'd buy some...especially things like a Vader, Maul and Fett

Some of the other stuff like Luke and Han could be hit and miss.  If Hasbro is sculpting them they could look fugly as all get out and then I'd pass.  If they were well done, I'd think about it a little harder.  Non-Collectors of Marvel Legends have no idea how awesome those figures are...screw Unleashed.  If they did ML Star Wars figures there is no reason to even do Unleashed because you can pose the figures any way you want

Not a chance in hell. I generally don't like the 6 inch scale, and would not be willing to spend my money rebuying characters in a different scale after 11 years of collecting 3'3/4 inchers.

Hasbro try this thing before with those 6" Obi-Wan, Maul and Destoyer Droid line. I can't remember the name of it, but those were the only figures in the line. Plus I think Hasbro is finding out the 6" lines don't sell as well with their Sigma 6 GI Joe line. Kids and adults alike don't want to pay $10 - $20 just for one figure. I know I don't. Plus going bigger make the vehicles go bye bye, because they can't make them big enough. Can you see a scale X-wing for a 6" line? It would be about 6 feet or bigger. I would have to hunt down the person that suggected the idea to Hasbro if they did make this line.

Between 3.75" and 12", I have enough on my plate.

I'm not gonna say 100% no, but I'd likely not be picking these up...

I bailed on 12" scale because they were sucking so hard...  Now SS is great, but price keeps me from getting into those and still being dedicated to 3.75".

IF 3.75" somehow folded and 6" were introduced, I'd have to see what was offered...  Like OCB said, sculpts could look horrendous if Hasbro is doing them while figures like Fett/Vader could be great.

However I'd also be very tempted to get into SS 12" figures instead (if 3.75" weren't there).

If 3.75" was going on as always though I'd probably just say F it and not buy into this stuff.

I'll admit I'm tempted to buy new unleashed 2" figures from time to time but I've manaaged to stay strong...  I'd probably be the same on new 6" figures.  Hasbro needs to just be making the 3.75" as good as they can...   They have a super articulation format that is REALLY ideal in this scale but they refuse to even make knee, elbow, and wrist joints "standard" in the modern line...  I feel the more they spread out scales/lines the less they focus on the bread and butter, so yeah I'd probably just be that much more against a 6" line even...  Count me out (as I've sat here and rationalized the whole thing while I typed this).

I would have to pass. I rather expand my 3.75 that I have so much invested in. I started to pick up the 2in unleashed then came to my senses. Why start another scale? Space does become an issue at some point with most collectors.
I am uber focused in my collection 3.75 and 7in unleashed - thats it!

Having a 6inch line is redundant, they would be $10 plus to boot. I hope for more 7in unleahesed that almost in line with the 6 inch scale, thats appeases my appitite for larger scale Star wars.

Jesse
Right on the 12' Hasbro really sucked (except the R2 units and Yoda), they were so bad I am surprised they even bothered.
Remember the Chewbaccas - never forget! I also do not see why everyones is so excited about Sideshow's line. I think their stuff kinda sucks. The outfits and weapons look good but the bodies they use are so out of proportion and really "limp" they cannot stand on there own. The faces are mediocre at best the Obi and Anakin are ok. The 1/4 scale stuff looks nice.
Mediacom has the best stuff high end is the way to go.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  Seems like the overall feeling is "no way".  I'm in the same boat as many of you, I don't have the room for it anyways.  I'm getting to the point where its hard to find room for anything but the basic figures, and I'm trying to reconsider what's getting packed up - or to stop collecting altogether.  Like Scott mentioned, if they were really well done - I'd probably have a hard time passing on at least a few of them.  The Marvel Legends is just a fun line, and very well done, and if the Star Wars ones were in that same level of quality I'd definitely consider it - room or not :).

I'd say no, but for the fun of it here are some awesome customs of Star Wars figures in the 6" scale by forum member Glorbes... if they looked like this, I'd probably have to pick them up!

I don't think SW would have been as popular if Luke was a heroine, or if Leia had been in Luke's role... what if Vader had been a woman.   No offense ladies!  ;D

If they were done right, I'd buy maybe one Sneak Preview Wookiee style figure at 6" just to be the village elder of sorts.  ;)

I want to shout from the rooftops, "Please, God, No!"

If done correctly, like Marvel Legends, I'd buy a handful, for sure... We're already being asked to pay $10 for the good 3.75 figures... might as well pay the same amount for something on a bigger scale, with ultimate articulation, and with a huge base to boot (or build-a-Rancor!).

Knowing Hasbro, though... they'd completely **** up the idea, and sculpt the figures like Manga characters.

Oh. My. God. I'd be so all over a 6" Ewok to terrorize all the 3.75" figs.  ;D
Godzilla style the town, then pick up Han Solo (like King Kong) and bite his head off.  :D I want this line now  :P
