Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Gas Prices

I know, I know; Iraq, middle east conflict, oil company profits, etc...

Yeah, because none of that stuff started until four or five years ago. . .   :-X

That is my exact point...why all of a sudden?

I was reading through some gasoline articles from cnn.com and they were predicting an early peak to gas this year.  They were predicting about $2.87.  Now, they are saying $3.25.  I'm guessing we will see closer to $3.75.  I still don't get it though why (although I really do), why are all the plants having repair issues now and not during the winter?  Why in the last 4 years are we seeing gas prices go up and down when for the previous 20 we didn't see that kind of action.  Oil prices are down, so should the price of gas.

I know, I know; Iraq, middle east conflict, oil company profits, etc...

Friday I filled up before driving my pickup to my parents house 2.5 hours away for $3.04.  At there house, gas was $3.29.  I need gas, but I waited until I got back here to refill.  This ******* sucks.

It's been a weird week.  Right now it's cloudy and steamy...yesterday cloudy, steamy, and sunny.  Tomorrow who knows?

It's been extremely wet this spring here in North Texas.  I hope the whole summer isn't like that or it will make playing softball miserable.  We got rained out/postponed in 4 of 8 games.  That sucked.

There's a bill in the Texas legislature right now that will suspend the 20 cent per gallan tax for 90 days.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: What do you drive?

What I drive, a 2000 F-150 4x4, with pipe rack, grill guard, bed rails, step up bars...all the goodies.  It's paid off so it's great.

My wife drives a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.  I'll get pics some time.

I said this last year and nobody had much of a comment.  If there were more refinaries in the US, the price of gas would not be so expensive.  But environmental groups bitch up a storm so I guess they enjoy paying the higher prices.

I don't like the idea of hurting the environment either, but some concessions have to be made.  I won't get up on my global warming soap box today.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Night Owl or Early Bird?
« on: May 7, 2007, 10:51 AM »
When i was in the military, I was a night owl by necessity, flight line guard duty from 6PM-6AM.

Now days, I'm usually in bed on weeknights by 11 and out of bed by 5AM.  Friday night, I go to bed when I don't feel like video games anymore, usually betwen 12-1Am.

When I actually do get to see a movie, my wife and I have usually eaten dinner before so we're not hungry.  Sometimes though, we may buy a drink and popcorn that we share, or on rare occasions, we'll buy candy.

But, the stuff is so expensive for two drinks and two packs of candy that it's hardly worth it.

I hate doing this, but I'm working through two books right now.  The first one I started is Rommel and his war in the Desert.  Interesting because it was written by a German historian and does some bashing of Rommel and his reckless tactics in the desert.  Which after part of the way into it, I find myself agreeing with his ideas.

I'm also reading Dragon by Clive Cussler.  I first read one of his books about six months ago and it was a real page turner and I saw this sitting on the "borrow" shelf at church so thought I'd liberate it and take it for a spin.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Conan to Replace Leno in 2009!!!!
« on: May 2, 2007, 04:48 PM »
Gotta claim I enjoy Leno.  The first two segments are all I really watch anyway.  Sometimes I'm so tired I don't even get through the monologue...comes from keeping up with  kids all day.

As for Conan, I don't watch him very often (see above) so I'm not too sure on him.  But, I have been able to watch in the past and I love the Walker clips that he puts on.

My grandfather did the same thing with me when I got back from Kuwait!

When my grandfather heard I was thinking about going back in, shortly after I got out, he told me not to go back.  It's been hard, but part of me is still leaning that way.  I've actually contacted my old reserve unit to see if they had any roster spots available.  Right now, they only have overage slots which is kind of aggrivating because those are non-deployable positions.

One thing I picked up years ago and haven't done anything with to this point is my Grandfathers' WWII uniforms.  I'm planning to eventually get his ribbons and stick them on.  He commanded a tank destroyer and his uniform as the patches still.  However, the one on the uniform blouse has the tiger with the tank treads in it's mouth, but the treads only have four wheels, an indicator it was not a mainline TD unit, but more of an elite force...however, I've yet to find more information on that and unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.

He never told me much about his expiriences until I came home from overseas when I was about 25, sadly it will be very difficult to find out more about him.  Sorry to head off on a tangent here.

I forgot about the coins....and most are right here on my desk!  I keep two in my wallet to be prepared for such challenges.

Being that I'm only IRR now, I don't even bother carrying them with me.  I'm thinking about getting into collecting them and putting them into a display case, much like the POTF coins are.  I was thinking about picking up as many AFSF coins as I could, being that is all I've got on me now.

Like Matt, I've got mainly stuff I was issued and a Blackhawk Industries tac vest because I didn't like the issued one.  Pretty much for me also, BDU's and a few pairs of boots.

I've also got a handful of challenge coins, but I can't be sure of where all of them are.
