I'm probably going to see Basterds this weekend, maybe even for a midnight show tomorrow night.  I haven't looked to see if the theater is sold out yet.  I'm hoping that since it's that transition week with college students coming and going it'll be a slow night at the theater.

^ I wouldn't count on that. I caught a late show of District 9 tonight and it was just packed, which is rare for a Wednesday night, especially with all the move-ins going on in this college town.

As for the movie, it was great. Very intense, and the weapons-testing scene and the piece of alien tech at the end were fantastic. I liked how the film commented on the darkest chapters of the 20th century without beating you over the head with it.

In a rare treat, my wife and I are planning to see Bastards this weekend. Few movies motivate us to go through the hassle of getting a baby sitter.

Disney and Robert Zemeckis (”Polar Express”) will remake the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” animated film in 3-D, according to Variety. The new version of the 1968 classic is aiming for a 2012 release.

Good god! Another ******* remake!  ::)

I wonder if little kids would appreciate the Beatles now, if they understand their niche in society?

The CGI kicks the prequels' dick in the dirt.

Eh... not bad.  I don't know the first thing about this movie.  Looks like your typical "Evil American turns into an oppressed alien and joins the resistance" type deal.  That's kinda lame, IMO.

Looks pretty awesome to me.  The choppers and exo-suits are amazing.  It does look a little predictable, but I'll give it a shot.

Is that like The Last Airbender cartoon thing or is this something different?  I thought M. Knight Shamawhatever was behind this?

I don't mean to be an ass, but isn't that pretty much the same as District 9? The VFX in the trailer look pretty good in some parts, but very poor in others. (Like certain video game scenes.)  I'll probably see it in the theatres, as the military aspect looks kinda neat, but I'm not as eager for this one as I was with D9 or Basterds this weekend.

One thing I don't understand based on the trailer... how come the military can grow an alien and attach somebody's brain to it, but they can't repair dude's back?  You'd think curing paralysis would be a couple notches down from remote brain-controlled zombies...

I think that's going to be a common problem....

Interesting trailer on Airbender, but I thought that James Cameron had that project.

I think the film is a home run.  Makes you appreciate what a good film can be and how bad a lot of things coming out of Hollywood really are.

   E...

Regarding District 9, in at least the opinion of 2 people, this was one of the bad things coming out of Hollywood...

My fiancee and I mutually agreed to walk out of the theater halfway through this one yesterday.  I've never done that before.

Maybe it just wasn't for us, we both thought it was really awful and gave it a 1/10.

WOW!  You walked out of District 9?  Why?  I'd love to know.  Be really specific. I thought it was great, in many ways.  I can't imagine walking out.

And jayson, of course the CGI is better than the prequels.  ROTS is 4 1/2 years old.  That's a huge amount of time when it comes to visual effects.  Hell, just look at the difference from TPM to ROTS.
