Buying tons of Star Wars goodies is expensive enough, but always having to tack on that little bit extra for sales tax pretty much blows. I was just curious how high or low everyone else's sales taxes are around the country (or elsewhere). I've heard of taxes as high as the mid 8%'s, but where I live it's only 4%, so I guess I don't have it too bad.
How about everyone else?
-
Here in Michigan its 6%
-
In L.A. County its 8.25% and over in O.C. its 7.25% (or something like that). Its propablly will be going up since this state's economy is going the way of the Titainic, ICE BERG HEAD. ;D

In Canada we have 2 taxes. Federal 7% and a provincial, here in Ontario its 8% for a total of 15% tax!!
Than again we don't have to pay for healthcare so....
Scott :)

Yup 15% sales tax in Quebec, and the rest of Canada, just try to beat that rest of the world! ;D
But like Sp00ky said heathcare is great.
-
Health care is great? When was the last time you guys were in an ER? Yeah, it's free (minus tray fees, etc) but not great. Waiting times for MRI's down south are long at 5 days. Up here they are short at 6 months. :o
Manitoba is 7% and 7% so we got you easterners beat by 1% ::) 'Course, when Dale rolls in he has only one at 7% so he's got us all beat. Damn Alberta.
-
My sales tax in Ohio is 6.25%.
-
North Carolina tax is 6.5%, with a new 0.5% "local" tax, to make it 7%.
-
I live in Armstrong County which is 6.25% I believe?
Allegheny County which is Pittsburgh's county is 7.25% I believe, and Westmoreland County (which is between sort of to the left and below Allegheny) is around 7%.
Obviously, the further from a city you get the lower the tax rate generally.
COL for Pittsburgh is generally low overall though, as opposed to a city like Chicago, LA, NY, and whatnot... And it's voted the 2nd most beautiful place in the United States... So there's some other benefits. :D
-
I believe our tax is 8.75%, but that's ok...because I steal everything anyway.
I just walk into the store, get what I'm gonna get front and center....or get five years for breakin' and enter.

5 % here in Boston, Taxachusetts but it's very deceiving. There are hidden taxes in everything like weird phone bill taxes, rental taxes, state tax is insane.
Don't let the sales tax fool you.
-
The irony that Massachusettes would have taxation on everything possible. :)
Allegheny County is proposing a 10% alcohol tax which is pushing bars to protesting and such. It's funny because in some instances you just cross a river and you're out of a county... For going into the city to do your boozin' though, there's going to be a price hike.
I for one don't mind, but I see where the bars are coming from too. Such is life though...
No Star Wars tax though ever I hope... Sometimes this hobby's taxing enough. :)
-
Too high,I don't know exactly I'll check.

And lets not forget the excise tax, which is a tax imposed on your vehicle (a percentage of the vehicle's worth). They say its for road repair, upkeep, etc. but thats B.S. as Massachusetts has the worst roads I've ever driven on.

In Britain we have 17.5% VAT (“Value Added Tax”) charge . It’s included in the price of the goods upfront, so there’s nothing to add on at the checkout.

Yep, 7% & not a cent more. :P Alberta, gotta love it. ;D :-* :-*

Well we have a 5% sales tax and a another .5% stadium tax to support the new Packer stadium. That new tax caused a big uproar in town.
-
8.25% sales tax, and no state tax in Austin
-
I generally do my shopping in three different sales tax zones here in Southern California: 8.25% here in L.A. where I do the majority of my SW hunting, 7.75% just south of us in Orange County (Disneyland), and 7.25% just north of us up in Ventura County...
Bummer to see I'm getting hit a tad worse than a lot of folks here are (aside from our often unfortunate Canadian comrades). Maybe we need to move... :P

this site is great for the sales tax lovers

Here in Minnesota we seem to be about middle of the pack at 6.5%.
-
I stand corrected, I thought all Canadians payed 14-15% total. Alberta The Great!
And Britain having a whopping 17.5%, that's just plain damn silly. :o
