After putting $50 worth of gas in my truck yesterday, I actually considered selling my beloved 4X4. If I could find another pickup, possibly the Titan, with better mileage, I might consider getting rid of it.
Although gas really is creaping up slower than inflation, it has made a huge jump in the past year and a half. Living on a teacher's salary that increases at a lower rate than inflation, this is shortly going to become a sticky situation. Lucky for my wife and I (both teachers) I don't drive my truck except to work...but she drives about 30 miles one way in her little Hyundai Santa Fe. Her mileage is pretty good, but not so much for my Ford.
FWIW, if you guys are having some issues, a tune up and regular oil changes will help to a degree. The engine will run more efficient...also be sure to keep your tire pressure at the recommended levels. Preventative maintenance will help with fuel efficiency, as well as long term damage to the pocketbook when something breaks.
Sorry that's long, my mind is kind of jumping all over the place.
