Saga Collection '06 / Re: Problems for TSC?

Like the '04 line, it looks to me like wave by wave. Makes sense, the 8 waves have to stretch out for 11-12 months. Releaseing all three waves at once, especially around christmas, would be pretty rough on us. :P

Episode 1 / Re: Wave 2 accessory sets
« on: November 14, 2005, 09:56 AM »
I just bought the Pod Racer Fuel Station from, sigh, ebay, so now I onlly need a carded Hyperdrive Repair kit to polish off my E1 carded collection.

In hind sight, I wish I had never opened the wave 2 set I found at retail since I didn't like the accessories. The only one that was cool was the Hyperdrive set.

I was looking at the case assortment at EE and the new figures look to be short packed in the Geonosis wave.  ::)

Although on the surface, I would roll my eyes as well, I don't think that will be a problem. The repacked 2 per case figures are main characters and despite the fact that we woun't be buying them, average Mom and Dad will for Jr.

I think the face is off. It seems that Mark Hamill's face has always been difficult to capture, no matter what scale.

I love that he comes with extra hands and multiple accessories. The lightsaber hilt looks amazing.

I'd like to see side by side shots of this and the amazing Japanize one (midi-com?) released a while back to compare quality.

Alright, thanks. It's hard for me to get bigger stuff with my $5 a week allowance.  ::) And I can't drive. But hopefully I'll find them.

Chrismas is coming. Time to start dropping hints. ;)

To summarize, I thought it was an excellent adaptation of the book and very well made, but lacks character tone to emotionally invest you. Although that bothered me, I was too blown away by the interpretation to let it ruin the film for me.

Most of the FX were outstanding. You can tell that they farmed the FX out to different companies because some sequences were less flawless than others. Aslan IMO was outstanding with the exception of one shot where he is thrown to the ground. They just didn't get the weight right. Tomnes was flawless. I looked very hard and could not see any tell signs that his fawn legs were CG. Some of the battle sequence shots were sloppy, but most were just great.

The Chronicals of Narnia doesn't open up for another month?  How'd you see it already?  That seems pretty far off for there to be advanced screenings already.

I just posted a small review in the Narnia thread. This was actually the first screening of the completed film to anyone and was held at the Directors guild. In fact, the director still hadn't seen the completed film because his newborn keep him from getting to the theater on time.

This past Thursday, at 10:30pm, the last FX shot was completed and this morning (Saturday) at 10am, I was privileged to be in the audience of the first public showing of the finished film.

Wow! Did they get it right.

I thought it was an excellent interpretation of the book, but to a fault. In other words, I thought it was a home run, but it wasn't knocked out of the park. It's very obvious that the filmmakers went through great lengths to get it right, and it shows (although, I am disappointed one small *hint* character was left out of the film.) However, where I think the movie goes wrong is that it was made very competently, but did not go beyond that to make it special or magical. While I was blown away by what I was seeing, there were still moments missing to take it from a faith rendition to a true masterpiece, but I'm sure I'm gong to be in the minority in thinking that. I think the film will make tons of money, get good reviews and be a crowd pleaser, and deservedly so. But, after getting a film like Batman Begins this summer, a film that took that leap to masterpiece, it's a mild disappointment for me. I think in the hands of someone like Christopher Nolan or Alfonso Coarun, it would have been truly special.

As for the FX, Aslan was superb. There was one awful shot at the stone table sequence, but other than that, he was incredible.  Tomnes was another amazing example of great work, I looked hard for flaws with his legs and found none. Some of the fight sequences could have been rendered and animated better, but they are definitely passable for today's audience.

I hope you all enjoy it.

Go see Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Not only because it's a fun and twisted movie with brilliant dialogue, but because Warner Brothers is refusing to promote it because they hate it.

Within 24 hours I saw 3 movies this weekend. Friday night was Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, this morning was The Chronicals of Narnia and the afternoon was Chicken Little with my Daughter.

I'm looking forward to next weeks show, but I'm looking even more forward to getting back to the main story. They know just how to string you along

I would never watch that show in a million years, but seeing those previews really, really tempted me.

It's fun to speculate until we hear for sure. Which report is true, given the sources, I would say that both have some truth and some rumor.

The thing that worries me the most about TUBHC is the glaring lack of the word Vintage. It seems to open up the dreaded possibility of PT figs as part of the collection.
