The Vintage Collection / Re: Brian's Toy Exclusive - Jocasta Nu
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:56 AM »
I've gotta say, I like this. This will get the Jocasta Nu monkey off of Hasbro's back, and we get the new figure. Add in the Dooku Lost 20 bust, plus the packaging that looks like the Jedi archives and I'm ok with the $25 price tag.

I'm a little surprised that Hasbro partnered up with Brian's Toys on this. And it makes me think that EE probably passed on this. I have to wonder if Hasbro realizes the kind of reaction this will elicit with collectors. But I'm going to bite the bullet and get my order in pretty soon.

The big challenge with an in-ground pool?  Digging the hole is a simple job. But is your backyard clear of any pipes, cables or the like?  Aside from the permits, this could be one of the more significant considerations.

The best thing I've seen so far is that Mahawnik (sp?), Naboo Pilot, Aurra Sing & Gungan Warrior are all shown on the Vintage figures shelf and Aurra and the Gungan seem to have paint application differences - and the Gungan for sure has a new super-long staff accessory.

Where'd you see those?

Check out the GH Facebook page. They managed to get on the floor early today

Not certain, but I definitely saw them there.  And they were right on a main aisle in the store where I saw them.

I looked for these at two Wal-Marts over the weekend and couldn't find them anywhere.  They should be in the Home section with dishes and such, right?   :P

Try Target.  I found them in the kitchen accessory area, near some stuff like dish drainers.

Managed to score Darth Malgus and The Imperial Navy Commander at a TRU store this afternoon.  AND there must be some kind of promo going on, because they both rang up at $7.00 each.  VERY NICE!

Other Toy Lines / Re: Dream Toylines

Indiana Jones - lots of potential here
Robotech - So many characters, and great vehicles.  Matchbox didn't do it justice
Predator - The movie.  Just the Predator alone isn't enough, how about the Special Forces team with Dutch and Blaine?
Starship Troopers - Mobile Infantry against bugs anyone?

Holy crap!  I posted this 9 years ago?

We got a bunch of Indiana Jones, so that's cool.

McFarlane has done some cool Predator stuff.

Toynami has done some cool Robotech stuff, including their masterpiece edition Veritechs.

As for Starship Troopers?  Eh.  Poor choice on my part in retrospect.

As for now?

GAME OF THRONES - Definitely lots of potential here for core characters and some army building.  I'd love to get some Stark forces, Lannister soldiers, Dothraki, Nights Watch and Wights.  But seeing how the show is so far removed from being oriented towards kids, this line would probably have to remain a dream.

HIGHLANDER - The first movie could probably yield about a dozen or so figures.  It would probably be best served by a company like McFarlane or NECA.

Wow.  Ernest Borgnine may not have been your traditional Hollywood leading man, but he always worked.  His IMDB entry has him credited as an actor in over 200 films going back to 1951.  And one of his earliest roles that got him some serious acclaim was "From here to eternity" back in 1953!  And then he won a Best Actor Oscar in 1955 for Marty.

But one of the best Ernest Borgnine moments of all time?  Sharing too much with Steve Doocy of Fox & Friends

$24.99 is what I was charged yesterday for each of my sets.

Good score, CHEWIE.  So how do the paint apps on figures like Boba Fett, R5-D4 and the Death Star Droid compare to some of the more recent releases?

I actually saw some of these today at Target.  I was tempted to revisit the idea.  I had tried them out a few years ago, but I wasn't too happy with them at the time.  Anyhow, I need to get my collection room shelving in order before I do something like this.

Better yet. Replace Quigon with Dooku in TPM. In that case you have the master (Dooku) betraying the apprentance (Obiwan). Later, you have the apprentace (Anakin) betraying the master (Obiwan).

Hmmm.  I don't think that would work as well.  That would just seem a little too neat and tidy.

Also, even if it was brief, Qui-Gon did serve as a sort of father figure to Anakin in Episode I.  And the recurring theme with Anakin's PT story arc is loss.  First he has to leave home in order to join the Jedi Order.  And then he loses his father figure, Qui-Gon Jinn.

The DPCI is valid here in the NYC area, but the price is $24.99 each.  None to be found around here, though.  As for the pricing?  In the grand scheme of TVC figure pricing this still puts the individual figure price at $8.33 each.
