It seems like an interesting premise. And a thought comes to mind based on something that's existed more in print than on screen. But oddly enough, the protocol droid that was teaching the classroom full of kids on Nevarro in The Mandalorian brought up the concept -
Hyperspace Routes!
In a galaxy where making the jump to hyperspace seems like old hat, it's actually more complicated than that. Han Solo said it himself when the Millennium Falcon left Tatooine:
Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?The protocol droid on Nevarro talked about one of the great Hyperspace routes through the galaxy. And it turns out that navigating through hyperspace depends largely on these mapped out lanes through the galaxy that make hyperspace travel safe. The Wookiees were renowned for their Claatuvac Guild of hyperspace navigators. They were located in Kachirho, which was the location of the Battle of Kashyyyk in ROTS (probably the reason the Separatists attacked there).
I suspect that the kids who wind up on this ship end up having major issues with the navigation computer, and have great difficulty finding their way home because navigating through hyperspace isn't exactly easy.
