Other Collectibles / Re: Target SW Gift Card. You get one?
« on: May 12, 2005, 06:00 PM »
I was in Target the weekend the new toys came out, but I didn't see the gift card.  The next Monday, my mom got the discount card in the mail for $1 off on figures -- so I went back to Target and asked them if I could still get the discount because the card came late in the mail -- and amazingly, they let me use the card, even though the figures were already on sale.  Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to buy very many.  It was that trip that I saw a space for the gift card on a display -- but it was empty.  I asked about it, and they found another box in back, so I bought one, then paid for my purchases that day with the card.

And after I left, I realized that I should've gotten more of them, since they're essentially free.  Oh well.

I also picked up three SW gift cards at Wal-mart (these are just the regular, non light- and sound-FX kind) -- but the cashier there knows of my obsession, so she didn't make me go through the "buy the card then redeem it" process, she just threw 'em in my bag. <G>

Back at Christmas, I got a gift card from Hot Topic -- funny thing, there's no copyright info anywhere on that card, which had me wondering if it was legit.

Yesterday I got a kids meal with Luke in it.  Today, I got a kids meal with Han in it -- and after I ordered, I noticed the sign that you can get two toys for $1.29 with the purchase of an adult value meal.

My husband bought a value meal last night, but I guess he didn't see the sign or they didn't have it up yet, because he didn't bring me any toys.  I haven't asked for Vader, because I wasn't sure how difficult he was going to be.  I think by tomorrow, though, the employees oughta recognize me when I stop by for lunch, so I'll ask and see what I can get.  I gotta call hubby at work and tell him to pick up toys with his dinner (we're working different shifts these days).

I guess I got lucky with the cereal -- the first three boxes I opened with spoons in them had the three different colors in them.  Now I'm just waiting to have some money in the bank to send off for all the order-with-proofs stuff.

I haven't seen the Pepsi Yoda at Wal-mart, which is about the only place I've been.  I must say, I'm kind of glad they don't have the collect-all-24 can promotion this time.  I'm gaining enough weight from eating M&Ms, Chips, and Keebler cookies.

Jeff -- you are so lucky to get those grocery store displays.  Way to go!

Thanks for the BK checklist, JesseVader; I'd been thinking I needed to put one together for myself.  At least, though, there's not three different chains involved this time.  I had a really hard time keeping all the toys straight for Phantom Menace.

I have the original diecasts, from '96 or so, but I never saw the Titanium series, ever.  Hopefully we'll get these new ones.

Fan Art / Dave Dorman
« on: March 11, 2005, 11:12 AM »
I hope EU is the right topic to put this under; Dave illustrates a lot of comics, books, games, etc.

Anyway, I work at a TV station, and this morning I was production our morning show.  Dave was our guest, to talk about his career in general and also his appearance at our local film festival next weekend (he designed the poster.  He and his wife were really nice, and he signed a dozen or so comics that I took in with me.  I really love his illustrations, so I just wanted to come on and tell other collectors how nice a person he is. :)

The first name that came to my mind was Nicole Kidman. Maybe it's just the red hair....

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Are You a Star Wars Packrat?

My name is Auriette, and I'm a packrat.

::Hi, Auriette::

Yep, I save everything!  I have tons of stuff that's not Star Wars related, not part of any collection I have at all, but I can't bear to throw it out.  Like Kids Meal toys based on things I've never even heard of.  We are going to be moving to a house soon (*fingers crossed* - we close on Jan 23), and hopefully in the process of moving, I can get more organized.  Great thing about the new house - 16'x23' Star Wars room (although I might have to share a portion of it with my husband's Robot Collection -- but that won't be entirely out of place).

I found the Imperial Dignitary and Achk Med Becq at Wal-mart 1/1/04, so year to date, $9.54.

For the past several years, I've marked an envelope with the year and tried to stick all my SW receipts in there.  Some get lost or misplaced, but it's a pretty good way of keeping a record -- and it's great if I find an item a little cheaper two weeks later!  I've never gone back and added them all up.  I'm not sure I want to know.....

Collector's Tips / Re: Storing Loose Figs
« on: January 3, 2004, 12:34 AM »
I have a few of my loose figures in hard plastic boxes that are just the right size for 3 3/4" figures.  I don't know what the boxes were made for, but my husband had a few and I put them to good use. :)  The others are in snack sized Ziplock bags -- just the right size for a figure and weapon.  The backcards are stored separately in a box (yep, I opened my figures and saved the backs, for the pictures, going right back to my 12-back Luke and Vader, the first figures I ever owned.  I even same some of the blisters and those little bits of cardboard the figures stood on).  Someday I hope to package the backcards together with the figures and their blisters and their little pieces of cardboard, either in clamshell packs or larger baggies.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: What does your JD forum member name mean?
« on: January 3, 2004, 12:31 AM »
Taminar is a name I made up for my cat, back in 1980.  It was derived from "Tammany" because I had recently watched the first film version of "The Lathe of Heaven" on PBS, and there was a reference to a racehorse named "Tammany Hall" and I liked the Tammany and I was going to name the cat that, except it turned out to be a boy, and I didn't think Tammany sound masculine, so I reworked it. The cat, sadly, is long gone, although I do have a couple of his nephews (aged 16 and 18).  I use the name Taminar for my e-mail and a lot of different forums/member sites.

I checked two Wal-marts, Target, and TRU last weekend and nothing.  Guess I'll make the rounds again Saturday.  Of course, if they're just now hitting the "secondary" markets, Pensacola's still weeks away from getting them.

Vintage Kenner / Re: New Scammer Alert!

I went to check it out and the seller pulled the auction claiming he didn't know about the "custom card" thing.  I guess he got some complaints.

Perchance to dream....
My collection is sadly lacking a vintage Yak Face and blue Snaggletooth, so I'd look for them.  I'd also do a search for Padmé Amidala and Harrison Ford to see what lovely little offerings I could find there.  It'd be nice to spend a thousand bucks on Star Wars toys without feeling I was over indulging....

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Interesting Websites
« on: August 24, 2003, 02:16 AM »
It's not "exciting" or anything, but it's one of my favorite websites for information, and that's
        http://www.onlineconversion.com
At the top of the page, it says, "Convert just about anything to anything else. Over 5,000 units, and 50,000 conversions" and it's true -- money, length/distance, astronomical figures, you name it.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Ever Walk Out of A Movie?
« on: August 24, 2003, 02:08 AM »
I almost walked out of Wing Commander.  I only went to see it because of the Ep1 trailer, and the only reason my husband and I stayed was because my friend who worked at the theatre said she'd let us stay to see the trailer again before the next showing.
