Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Wax Issues
« on: April 17, 2006, 10:12 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I wanted to thank everyone who has stopped by and special thanks to Sith_Fire30, Glassman6, and Bantha 5 for helping me through my first wax sculpting experience . I glad to announce I pulled a wax cast at a 1:1 ratio compaired to the original clay model. The key was the method used to melt the wax. I used the "melt the wax in a metal container over a candle" method and it worked like a charm.

I would also like to say something to all those who are thinking about this craft form. It is an expensive process but a very rewarding experience ;D. Do a lot of research, ask tons of questions and don't be afraid to experiment. With every failer comes an oportunity to learn something new.

I wish you all good luck and thanks again for your support.  ;D

Hey everyone,

I hope everyone is haveing a nice Easter Sunday. I have a special posting today. I have two heads to post to my alien sculpt list, the third female Twi'lek and Jedi Master K'Kruhk's heads. I also I got my sample of wax from Bantha5 and got to play with it. I made a wax cast of my Minbari head. Here is a group pic for you all.

I was really supprise that the head shrunk comming out of the mold. It turns out it was to my advantage. When I put the wax head on AAYLA SECURA body, the head was better proportiant to the body. This is ok for some of my head sculpts, but when I want to expand to full figures, I can see this to be a problem. I started a new thread asking for help under "Wax Issues". If you have any answers or solutions to this, please post in that thread. I like the fact I can increase the amount of detail into my sculptures, but I do not want to sacrifice scale for this proccess. I hope I can get this resolved.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Wax Issues
« on: April 16, 2006, 03:59 PM »
Hi everyone,

I got my sample of wax from Bantha5 on friday and I got to play with this weekend. I melted the wax using the double boiler method and after 3 tries, I got a near perfect wax cast (Darn Air Bubbles ). I was shocked at first to see that the head was not the same size as the resin copy I made last month.

Now it just so happens that this head accually looks better scaled down than the original. I also have some head sculpts (Bothan small head) that some say could do with some reduction as well. I have no problem with that. I am concern about the heads that I did sculpt to scale and what to do about it. I want to continue to use wax to enhance the details in my sculpts, I should not have to sculpt larger in order to overcome this. Is there anyone who knows of a wax (name and company information) that does not shrink when poured/injected into a mold? I know that Azbro wax has a 4% shrinkage ratio, but I do not know that ratio compared to Bantha5 wax. Did I experience more than 4% or more?

I need your help on this one guys. Thanks.

Hey Guys,

I have another update for you all. I just posted the detailed head shots of the Bothan male head over at my alien head sculpt list. I explain in more detailed about the size difference and why I made two heads. Here I want to share some pics showing and comparing the two head sculpt and the body ratios to other figures. First up is the larger head sculpt on an Obi Wan #55 body.

Here is the same body standing next to the ROTS Anikin figure showing the ratio of size to the figure. I consider this figure the standard humanoid height.

Again, this was not intentional, but I am sure a lot of folks would not mind.
Now here is the shorter, Galaxies game height accurate size:

This head was modeled after the first head but reduced to the correct proportions of the Zett donor body. The measurements of Zett and the average Bothan taken from the Starwars.com databank, I was a direct match. Here is a pic of the Bothan next to Leia from the early bird package for comparison.

Leia is another character that is about the same height. I plan on using a VOTC ball joint Leia donor body to sculpt the female head. And lastly, here is another look at the smaller Bothan(1.5m) next to Leia(1.4m), Han(1.7m), and Chewie(2.1m) and their proposed measurements taken from the SW databank.

I know there are mixed feelings regarding the Bothans and I am sure all of you will benefit from my blunder. So talk amongst yourselves and let me know what you think.

I hope you will enjoy,

Hey everyone,

I have been EXTREAMLLY buisy this last week. With this months MMC, the neck conversion kit and this project, I am suprise I can find time to sleep ;D. OK, all joking aside, I have for you today is an update to the alien list. I have added two types of detailed WIP Bothan heads. Now a little funny thing happened while sculpting the first one, some how I managed to sculpt the head to big for the Zett body. I put it on my newly aquired Obi Wan #55 body and it works great for it. Now I could stop there and be donw with it, however, it would be hippacritical to rant about the height of the character and then just leave it on a larger body. So, I sculpted another head, this time making sure to stay proportiant and modeled the head after the freshly sculpted larger version and was happy with that result. Now I am left with two versions of this head. So, instead of wasting a sculpt and putting into the recycle bin, I am giving you, the customizer, the choice of sizes. Yes, you heard it right, you get to choose. For those who read the books and comics and believe that bothans are average huminoid height, and for those of you who follow the online discription and play the Galaxies game, you have a shorter version. I still have to tweek the hair style so they match and get the features just right, but for the most part, I think I got the job done. Let me know what you think. I can always change the hair around to a diffrent design if the masses agree. Here is a size comperison of what I think the Bothans look like, based on the Galaxies game:

I still have to sculpt the female version, the Twi'lek teens, and Master K'Kruhk's  head so I can get these figures I have on loan back to their owners, not to mention all the other stuff going on.

I hope you will enjoy,

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Neck Post Conversion Kit
« on: April 11, 2006, 05:33 PM »
Hey there Darth_Ennis,

that would be great!!! I really need the head. It would be nice if I had the torso to use, but mostly the heads. What I do is stick the wax clay into the head, and then stick the clay into the donor body neck hole and then start forming the neck. I then pull the head off and work the neck arround the body. Then I replace the head to see the progress. Once I have more donor peg head bodies, I could try the neck posts and see if  the neck post fits and the head is correctly proportiant to the body and so on. I will PM you my address to you can send the heads. Any heads you donate you will get back.  Thanks for the help.

Hi babyjawa,

Lets see I can clear this up for you. The theme for this month is Gladiators. That's it, nothing specific other than make a gladiator figure that could fight in a gladiator style arena. Some example were a clone trooper decked out with spikes and chainmail armor and with swords and nets and so on. Another example would be one of the creatures in arena in the Clone Wars cartoon. The other example would be to find a star wars charater and deck him/ her for battle in the Colosium. I picked the Psadan to be my gladiator because I was looking through my Essential guide of species and thought he looked cool as a gladiator. The point of this excerise it to have fun and be creative with your designs. No limitation are set.

So, go..., go now..., go make a custum gladiator so you to can do battle for I am the Govonator ;D ;D ;D!

All kidding aside, I hope this helps,

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Neck Post Conversion Kit
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:19 AM »
Hi Brent,

Yeah, I know it is alot of heads. I REALLY do not have alot of loose figures, especially these. Thanks for pointing out the neck hight with the last two heads. I fixed it by making a third neck post for the Minbari head and lowering Mon Mothma's neck post. As I am doing this, I begin to wonder, would I need to only make one neck for that head or instead do I need to make a neck for each head type? This is why I need the bodies you all will customize and later and I need these heads to fit on these bodies inorder to determin the production proccess.

Thanks for the pointer,

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: tykrazen's customs
« on: April 10, 2006, 10:16 PM »
Hi there  tykrazen,

WOW  :o :o :o!!! I really love the Dais!!! That just so cool. That's what Hasbro should have included with that Ultra Jabba a couple years ago. Nice work there. I really like the cracks in the stone, great detail work there. I also like the Endor forest sceene. I always wondered why Hasbro did not re-release the forest along with the bunker instead of that pile of logs that to this day I still do not know what it was for. The Vader fighter looks great for a repaint. Maybe this thing will show up in the TV show in 2007. As for the cargo shuttle, it was awesome when you sent pictures to me before, it still looks awesome today. I still have those guns you wanted waiting for you. PM if you still want them.

Again, nice work there.

Darth_Ennis:  I really like the choice of colors for this custom. They really pop out at you. They fit so nicely with the tone that Chewie's photo novel has set. Agaian, nice job!!! ;D

Hi there Darth_Ennis,

Well I have to say, this last batch of customs are something else. Great looking.

Capt. Thrawn: I love the choice of head for this guy. Very menecing and cold calculating expression. Nice work! Paint job is flawless. I really can't offer any more suggestions for this custom. Great job.

Warlord Zinj: Now this is an interesting character. I am not very strong on UE stuff other than some comics and books I read. Nice face choice. It matches the rotund look of the upper torso. I would recommend re thinking the leg choice. Most figures that protray a obeese character have short and stubby legs. These are not very proportion to the torso. I would recommend looking at some anatomy for the artist books that show proper proportions of the human body and body fat distribution. In short, the legs need to be more fuller like the Rancor Keeper legs. That figure is properlly ballanced. Fat charaters are not always the easiest to get right without doing some initial research study on the subject. I think if you can get the legs sized up, this figure would change from good to fantastic. I know how nerve wracking it is to post your work for the world to see. You have alot of great stuff on here and I only want to help you grow and become better with every new custom you make. I hope you do not take this the wrong way, I really like the concept of this figure and everything eles you made. You are very talented and I for see you becomming a great artist. I wish you luck with this figure and I always look forward to see new works from you.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Neck Post Body List
« on: April 10, 2006, 07:15 PM »
Ok, here is the location for posting your request/ recommendations for those POTF2, POTJ, Episode1, Saga, and OTC body types to get the Neck post conversion treatment. I will start the list off:

Adi Gallia
Agen Kolar (ROTS)
Jedi Duel Obi Wan
Padme droid factory chase

There, now its your turn. The more input I get the more custom posibilities will you all have. Again you can add as many body types to the list, just don't duplicate a type that someone else posted. Thanks.
