We all knew it was coming, and I'll happily pick it up. It'll be nice to have an update to Motti & the ISB officer looks nice. That being said, like the last few sets, this set does sort of miss the mark for army building w/ two named officers. I do wonder if they will put out any alternate version, one with either some other named officers (Needa, Ozzel, Yularen, etc.) or a set of generic officers.
I'll grab one for sure, and maybe a second for customizing.

I don’t hate it. Are the other two just generic then? Why couldn’t they have painted some of them black and done First Order officers… or anything specific.

Are the other two just generic then?
Yep.
ESB Admiral Piett
ANH Admiral Motti
two generic officers
Why couldn’t they have painted some of them black and done First Order officers… or anything specific.
Give it time and I'm sure they will get to those, and then use this buck for a new Death Star table figure set, and more and more and more. ;)
-
The admiral with the white tunic bears a striking resemblance to Admiral Versio from Battlefront II.

So was the Piett we already got on the single card a Captain version of him then? Maybe I have it in the wrong spot on my shelf... the checklist thread has that one listed as Admiral too.
-
Long story short, the rank badge system that was set up in ESB was not followed in ROTJ.
In ESB we see Captain Piett at the beginning of the movie, then at the end his rank badge has changed to an Admiral's badge. This final scene Piett is the figure in the 4-pack.
The Admiral Piett seen in ROTJ has the generic badge every officer in ROTJ had, which matches the Captain rank in ESB. So the ROTJ carded figure already out works for Captain Piett in the early part of ESB too.
-
Okay... if I'm following, it would make sense if I take the single-card one and throw him into the ESB shelf, and then use the 4-Pack one for ROTJ yeah?
-
Technically, no, the only badge Piett wore in ROTJ was the one that he has in the carded release. (Every officer has the same rank badge in that film, even Moff Jerrjerrod.)
You can display either version on an ESB shelf, because he was both a Captain and an Admiral in that movie and wore both versions of the rank badges.
The 4-pack version was only ever seen in ESB, in the finals scenes of the movie when he has been promoted to "Admiral."
-
Excellent explanation Muftak.
I look at it this way - the ROTJ carded Admiral Piett fits on a ROTJ shelf OR any ESB shelf next to Admiral Ozzel. The 4-Pack Admiral Piett here would fit on any post-Ozzel force choke ESB scene shelf (losing the Falcon in the asteroids, on the bridge with the Bounty Hunters, etc).
(all of this discussion has me thinking about buying another ROTJ card Admiral Piett to put on my ESB Ozzel death scene shelf now... :P).

$59.99 = Boo! Press Release said $55 :(

I'd consider Admiral Piett to be good for ROTJ scenes. There's no need to follow the onscreen **** up.
Looking forward to these, but I would love to have a solid 4-pack of black uniform officers with different heads, like the Rebel Fleet Trooper pack. Maybe one of them is in grey or something.

Got it. Thanks!
I'll just put the existing one on ESB, and the new one with ROTJ.

I like the set, but same issue as with the recent Clone trooper set...the lack of generality keeps me from getting multiples.
-
That’s just it’s. If you’re doing specifics, people aren’t buying two, so why do any generics in there at all? Give us four from the films, then do a generic set later. Although I’d rather have another set of specific ones.
-
I agree with the general sentiments here. Even though it's great that Hasbro would go back and make a TESB specific Admiral Piett, this was probably not the right format for doing that. Admiral Motti has enough dialogue in ANH that you might have been able to release him individually on a cardback.
As for the other two? How many Admirals in white tunics do we see on screen in the saga? The answer would be NONE! That figure is such a ringer for Admiral Versio in Battlefront II that I think Hasbro probably should have made some kind of a BF2 multipack with that figure. In fact, I get the feeling that this figure might have been pitched for TVC Gaming Greats. But if you've been in a GameStop store recently you've probably noticed that the chain appears to be struggling. Are they in a position to take on an exclusive? Especially with all of the Black Series Gaming figures that are lingering in GS stores???
A set of 4 x generic officers with lower ranks would have been an easier sell. Offer 1 x in the black Stormtrooper corps uniform, 2 x in the grey/olive line officer uniform, and 1 x in the white & black ISB uniform - all with likenesses that aren't specific to actors with dialogue. That set would have sold substantially better than this one will likely sell.
-
I still want them to come out with an Andor multi pack of imperial officers in their white uniforms. Hopefully these molds allow them to make those easily.
-
I'd definitely like to see a multipack of ISB officers. But the challenge with that is making it compelling as action figures go. The most action these guys really see is them sitting in a conference room being chastised by their boss or bickering amongst themselves, LOL!

The action is in their anxiety, ha!

Imagine the line circa 2002, and the anxiety they would have caused the Hasbro designers! "How do we add in a scowling action feature? Or a sanctimonious / arrogrant action feature???"
-
Horrifying thought. They also would have had permanent action poses...remember those days? Either you had jedi sculpted in battle pose with rock-hard capes and robes so you could fit about 3 on a shelf, or you had an open-mouthed Mace Windu with a lollipop sticking out of his back. How far we've come.

I actually stopped collecting because of the early Saga line.

Got the 'shipping soon' note from Pulse...
-
Got charged this morning, I guess I’ll have them within a week or so…
-
They actually just got here. All is as expected, but Piett came with a pistol instead of a rifle like the photo showed. ::Shrug::

I got these yesterday, and overall I'm really happy with the set. I'd love to get a black-tunic officer 4-pack, similar to the Rebel troopers pack, where they're all generic. I could even see a Death Star Trooper 4-pack as well. I'm happy with them continuing to build out the named Imperials, but I think they need to figure out some way to provide slight variation in the heights, so they don't all look exactly the same. General Veers in particular is a fairly tall ************ at 6' 3". Grand Moff Tarkin is ~6'.
Still, I'm all for using these 4-packs to get definitive versions of the Imperials, instead of waiting for the slow trickle of carded figures. I wouldn't want to take up the main line with Captain Needa and General Tagge (for example) to rot on the pegs.
-
Where are you guys putting the generic ones for this... the White uniform guy seems like he'd fit in with Andor stuff nicely.
-
I'm putting them in my Imperial display, so they're standing at attention with all the stormtroopers and others in columns.
-
I'm putting mine in my DS2 Emperor's Arrival ROTJ shelf.

Yeah, basically this, but I have snowtroopers in columns there too. And Tarkin. And a few K2 droids.
-
With the Hasbro Outlet pricing on these guys, I picked up an extra set, and a 4-Pack of Hoth troopers on Amazon for $25 to do some head swaps...
Here are those guys with Hoth rebel soldier noggins.

The two on the left look like they were released that way! But the two on the right have a little too much facial hair to be convincing Imperials. That's something that always gets me with some Imperial custom figures - too much facial hair. The Empire always struck me as a bit too uptight for that sort of thing.

I get the same sense, too.
In keeping with Rob's comment in the other thread about Motti and Piett in Hoth rebel disguise, I look at the two on the right as rebels in Imperial disguise. In best sterotypical Fargo language: "Nothing to see here. We're just a couple of Imperial officers doing Imperial stuff, don'cha know." Haha.
@Rob - the face skin tone on the right-most looks a bit darker than the hands. If you care, maybe pair that noggin with the gloved hand?
-
Agreed guys.
And, while I’m all about Star Wars being more inclusive in the modern age, what made the empire in the OT so insidious was that it was a Nazi germany analogy… part of what made the emperor that much more evil was his racism. There was a definite clean shaven white men only thing to that. So I put the imperial officers who fit the old bill into the OT parts of the shelving and guys with facial hair get to go up with the expanded universe ones.
